Really enjoy coming to the boat and horses for a carvery on a Sunday, plenty of fresh veg to choose from, Lovley mash potatoes and roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese is also nice. Yorkshire puddings can be a hit and miss, sometimes you get a perfect Yorkshire, other times it can be a flat Yorkshire to a stale Yorkshire that’s been sat under a carvery deck light all day. Just depends what times you go and how busy they have been. Also different options of gravy. The breakfast is fantastic also at the boat and horses. Been so many times for breakfast on a Saturday morning. I like the selection of the hot breakfast. Includes all the usual inc black pudding, mushrooms and if you prefer a porch egg to a fried egg then just ask the waiter and the chef will do you 1. Service wise, the staff could be more interactive with their customers. I have walked in when it’s been really busy stood at the waiting station for 10 mins whilst staff have a chat when the customer should come 1st. Overall it’s better than toby carvery by a long shot and the price what you pay certainly can’t be moaned at

General cleanliness is great, only issue is the closeness to the motorway which when it is hot you can't have the windows open due to the traffic noise.

Visit regularly but wasn’t the best this time. I always have cheese and onion pie but unfortunately this has changed and isn’t nice. Staff are nice always chatty and polite. I wouldn’t go in with children as a lot of bad language from customers with no consideration for offers. Also looking a bit tired needs a revamp.

We booked a dinner for 4 and all had different meals. Both pies , burger and fish were all over cooked , I am sure it could have been a decent meal otherwise . The restaurant lacks atmosphere and the staff always disappearing somewhere. People often waiting to be served . Lacks management for sure . The rest rooms were not good either , toilet rolls with no holders and no lock on door . Some of the drinkers in there had no consideration of others with bad language and therefore not suitable for a family with children. One good thing are the drinks were good price .

Great restaurant in this bustling hotel with great views overlooking the canal. Buffet style breakfast was nutritious and plentiful. The staff were ultra friendly and busy cleaning and looking after customers. Stayed two nights and will definitely return again. The only downside was the proximity to Costco as the hotel shares the same entrance road and it was gridlocked constantly which was a pain.

Got the legendary cheese pie with cheese sauce. The pie was extremely dry so I thought the cheese sauce would help. I expected the cheese sauce would be creamy but was so disappointed it was like it was made with water and thickened with cornflower it was thick and wouldn’t flow out of the bowl it was served in. The chips looked like they had been cooked 5 times they were tasty but dry crunchy and it looked like the fat was very old and discoloured. We was going to have a carvery but I’ve never seen a carvery with so many choices dry and wrinkled it looked disgusting. The peas we got were served in the smallest bowl there must have been 20 garden peas in them. The girl who served me was friendly and professional she was a credit to the pub. We spent almost £100 for only 4 main courses and 4 drinks. I did use my blue light card to get 10% discount but that was a very Amal reward for the quality of the food. I will never visit a Lees pub again for food. Also the member of staff replenishing the the hot plate had very wild curly hair and he had no head cover on.

All I can say is wow!! Me and my partner stayed over at the boat and horses which had been reccomend by some friends coming to the area - we got greeted with a smile and told which room was ours - it was beautiful! Just what we needed to wind down - we decided to treat ourselves to some food next door (same place) it was delicious! I went for the cheese pie which I could have had seconds off and my partner went for the sea bass! Both delicious and reasonably priced! We are coming again for breakfast tommorow and will definitely be coming back to stay and try their carvery which smelt delicious! Thankyou for having us

one night stop over. pretty good value. Good service, comfy bed, clean room. One of the bathroom lights was on the blink, but no big drama. If it wasn't for the fact this place was in Chadderton by a main road on a busy intersection it would be great! Set on the canal it must have been a lovely canal side pub at one point!

Only a one night stay but nothing could be faulted. Room spotless, bathroom likewise. Plenty of space for cases, hanging clothes and desk area. Tea coffee chocolate and biscuits!! Yum!! Shower hot and powerful and proper soap as well as shower gel. Lovely quality bed linen, felt as if it had been triple ironed it was so smooth to slide into. Room was on the top floor overlooking the canal - no noise due to the window insulation, but it was good that we could open the windows for fresh air. Heater in the room was beyond efficient - got toasty throughout in a matter of minutes. All the staff were friendly and helpful both at check in and out and at breakfast service which was from 7-11 am. There was plenty of (very good) coffee, tea, juices, boxed cereals, diy toast and then help yourself hot buffet breakfast. The perfectly dippy fried egg was delish!! Car parking is plentiful and CCTV keeps an eye out. The pub itself is very spacious with views out onto the terraced area and canal. Cold March winds keep us inside but the wine and beer were good so no problems there. This accommodation is several notches up from your Premium Inn and Travelodge offering: cleaner, more modern - just better and nicer. Would wholeheartedly recommend and yes, we would return without hesitation.

Went on 31/07/20 Food was OK.i had veggie lasagne. Cheese pie had ran out at 1.30pm? Ordered refillable drinks, no one cleared plates at end of meal, no one offered to refill drinks (we could not do it ourself due to covid rules). We were sat at back of restaurant in booth tried to get staff attention which was difficult. Not many other people in so it wasn't busy. We were tempted to just leave out the fire door without paying, cos if staff cannot be arsed, why should we? But morally we would not do that so we just paid and left. Would not go again.

We visited the Boat & Horses yesterday as a family of five for dinner. 3 of us had the carvery & 2 had burgers from the main menu- all was delicious and it was clean plates all round but what also really stood out was their staff and how they implemented their covid procedure. They went above and beyond to create a welcoming but safe environment with track & trace, hand sanitisers, one way walk ways, table service & staff served carvery as well as screens between some tables. The restaurant was super busy as our visit coincided with the Eat out to Help out day snd yet they had plenty of staff so service was prompt & efficient and standards of food remained high. We would definitely recommend and will visit again in the future.

While given an overwhelming large plate full of food, the meal was disappointing.Bland and flavourless, undercooked veg...the parsnips didn't look like they had seen the inside of an oven. We ate at the boat and horses a few days into opening after lockdown. The booking system, seating arrangements and staff were very well organised and in line with government guidelines however the food was terrible. They’re working off a reduced menu, which isn’t a problem however the food that was served was far below the usual quality - but with the same highly priced amount. One member of staff also seemed fairly new and didn’t have a clue, we’d ordered an upgrade to one of the orders however the upgrade didn’t arrive, we challenged this with the member off staff several times, we then asked for the chef to be challenged - we still didn’t get the upgrade we’d asked for and was told we’d ordered the wrong upgrade. We felt this was a huge shame as we’re regular visitors but have been really put off.

We went for lunch today: our main course of sea bass on pasta was delicious! However, apart from extremely slow service, our desserts of apple crumble and custard were awful. I can honestly say that I have NEVER had such an awful crumble as this. More like rocks. After telling the waitress about it, we heard no more. When we left, my husband spoke to the assistant manager who apologised but blamed a large table of customers (table 28) and offered to recompense us. This was not our purpose though. We would probably have left it at that until the lady behind the bar made a very sarcastic comment. This has totally ruined our dining experience with them and it is unlikely that we will visit here again.

We visited this establishment last Friday (28th Feb) for my parents Anniversary. Upon entry we waited at the station waiting for a member of staff to greet us and show us to a table. Nobody came so after waiting over 5 minutes, we walked into the restaurant part thinking that we just find a table ourselves. We then noticed a member of staff so we asked if we self seated or was to be shown to a table. She said we had to wait to be shown to a table, she then asked another member of staff for a table for us to which the reply was In haven’t got anything here, go and find a table in the other section and order some food from the bar’. Looking around there was a fair few empty tables. We felt disappointed with the staffs response but went to find a table. We then looked at the queue at the bar and decided it would take a lift time to get served. We left and went down the road to another pub/Restaurant that was busy but more than willing to accommodate us. We won’t be returning to the Boat and Horses again!

There was ham beef or chicken . We both had the chicken which was served as half a chicken with mash and veg . Everything except the mash was dried up when we began to eat it we couldn’t even though we had put loads of gravy on it . The staff ended up giving us 25% off the bill which wasn’t good enough when we only ate the mash . It probably was very nice in the afternoon - what a shame . I have to say, I observed excellent interpersonal skills and de escalation techniques by a member of staff tonight at The Boat and Horses. The member of staff, known as Cath, dealt with a difficult customer and set acceptable ground rules with him in order to offer him a service and be mindful of other customers in the bar and restaurant areas. When we then went to order we were told that they had ran out of food! We were told that as they had served lots of groups who had turned up with no bookings that they had served then we would have to wait at least 30-45 minutes. However, when it arrived, it was very disappointing. The onion rings were literally swimming in a pool or grease and were sent back (a refund was kindly provided). Visited this afternoon for some lunch, first time visiting but will more than likely be the last... Quick service at the bar from the staff and a good selection of drinks available. The food however was a let down, the pasta was lukewarm and its accompanying garlic bread was cold. The carvery was ok however required improvment as some of the veg was cold, the gammon was also unavailable when I was ordering; staff brought over a plate when it was done for me but this was maybe 10 minutes after I'd begun eating the meal. Really disappointed as all of the staff and the pub itself were lovely but wouldnt really want to chance going again as its not the cheapest for a below par meal.

Stopped off here instead of Toby in a rush as it was so close to the motorway. Grabbed a table and ordered two carvery’s including a small plate for my daughter.

Visited here for Sunday Lunch on our way home. The Sunday lunch was really nice, plenty of meat and a large selection of vegetables to choose from, the yorkshire pudding are really large and there was different sauces to go with the meat, everything was hot. We hadn't booked but a table was quickly found for us even though the place was extremely busy. We will be going there again.

Went to the boat & horses for our evening meal Tuesday evening as we had our granddaughter with us, omg what a change from the last time we came!! Myself and my husband had the pate starter which was very bitter and was served with a supposedly tomato chutney (it was cheap salsa) and my granddaughter had vegetable soup which can only be described as a bowl of gritty mush, (she wouldn't eat it) we then all had the carvery, what a mistake that was!!! The meat was big chunks of dried up meat, it was so tough you could've repaired your shoes with it!!! The mash was just a big lump that you had to dig into and hope you found a soft spot and the vegetables were even worse, it was obvious that they hadn't been changed in quite a while and had been left to dry out under the heat lamps, needless to say we all left most of our food, it's such a shame that the food has deteriorated so much, we've been going to the boat & horses for the last few years because we always enjoyed the food but unfortunately we will be not be returning again

Special treat to take our elderly aunt and uncle for Sunday lunch. The carvery was tasteless. The braised steak pie had more pastry than meat content, frozen chips. The price for the carvery was a little steep at £16. Had much better. Although the staff were very attentive. Credit where's it's due. Food has so much room for improvement. Won't be visiting again unfortunately.

Had a long overdue family get-together and decided to meet for tea at The Boat and Horses. We’d been before but never left a review. No complaints from any of us!! Bar service was spot on and quick. Food was reasonably priced for generous portions and again very good service from the young waiter Niall; a very pleasant young man who served us with a smile on his face as well as a bit of banter to go with it. Keep up the good work. 10/10 all round.

Called here at a family meal. We had a couple of tables reserved and it was a good job. The majority of us asked for table service and I'm glad we did.One other person went to the carvery and was queuing for nearly 15 mins.We had almost finished our meal when he came back.

Visited this pub but after waiting at the bar for 10 minutes spoke to 2 ladies complaining that they had waited over 30 minutes for their food. I asked how long food would be if I ordered now and the manageress said at least an hour probably longer. Needless to say I didn't order and neither did the 2 people behind me. Obviously have enough money coming in not to worry about loosing parties of people.

Walked in being ignored by every member of the staff. After waiting on the table to be served I asked a waitress and she said that I needed to order at the bar. At the bar, one very stressed lady does her best to serve a massive amount of customers on her own. Queued at the bar for a good 20 mins, when I return to my table they are actually serving on the tables.

Just visited with hisband and grandaughter for lunch without reading reviews, food lukewarm, looked like it had been microwaved. Mash on grandaughters instead of husbands so we had to swap, husband said his steak and ale pie was nice but that was all. Chicken burger very dry and lukewarm, only thing that was good was onion ring and grandaughters icecream. Staff really nice and friendly, tables and ledges need a good clean as everywhere we touched was very sticky

The menu wasnt the best very limited and the prices were expensive. I ordered the minute steak baguette which when it came it looked like the cow should still be running round the field, the chips were frozen and the majority of them were hard, the onion rings were disgusting think it was the batter/ oil they were cooked in and the price for two small.bottles of coke was extortionate. All in all my worst experience every. Very disappointed would definitely not recomend

Came today to take clients out for lunch , 2 of us had a carvery , one haf a pasta dish that did look nice the other a childs meal , never seen such a small portion. Anyway back to the carvery, the mash was lumpy like huge raw lumps , veg was hard nice to see stuffing in a serve yourself dish rather than stuffing balls but this was clumpy . I had refill drinks . Bar staff where friendly though . One waitress was a bit miserable though. Would i try again? Doubt it .Nice to eat outside though .

We just poppped in for a drink on our first night at our hotel as it was the nearest real ale pub in walking distance from our hotel. Clean, staff helpful and a couple of good real ales.

We visit the boat and horses regularly as the food is half decent and the calvery affordable. What I will say is on every visit the staff seem more intent on chatting with others or off duty staff letting their kids run riot as your trying to relax and eat after grafting all day rather than mixing with customers to the point where you feel like your an inconvieniance to them as they earn a wage of your lack of consideration.

From the outside this looks like a lovely pub, looks can be deceiving. The place feels like it’s being run by kids. All staff bar one were unfriendly and quite frankly not bothered. We had the carvery BIG MISTAKE! The whole meal was luke warm, the mashed potato had lumps of raw potato, the roast potatoes her white and soggy, the Yorkshire puddings looked like they had been ran over. For £10.95 there’s much better places to eat in the area.

We visited the boat and horses with our two children 4 and 2 we all had a carvery which went down very well even for the fussy children. The food was beautiful and staff even gave us a plate and some meat for the baby which was lovely as when we’ve been to other places we’d have to take off of our own. The interior looks newly decorated with a deck facing out onto the canal. As for the environment it was really pleasant and inviting. It’s the perfect place for a Sunday lunch!

Met with friends for lunch on Saturday, not very busy and somewhat lacking in atmosphere. There’s a good choice of food on the menu and two of the group had the carvery and said it was good, two of us had the cheese pie and frankly it was very bland. Service was fine, though little interaction other than taking our order.

Took my wife for lunch on the 12th April our server Danielle was brilliant she sorted my wife out with what she could eat as she is gluten intolerant she suggested that she could have the battered holumi as they used gluten free flour she went to see the chef and he told her he could not guarantee the chips. They could be cross contaminated as he had only been in that day so she suggested that she had a jacket potato she is a credit to your company if all your other staff are as good you have a good training policy and what I witnessed you have no problems the staff looked happy and that transferred to the whole pub

Visited the establishment on Saturday afternoon, we had booked a table so were seated straight away. The general surroundings are nice and pleasant and the service was ok. I ordered the chicken BLT and it was pretty rubbish for the price (£9.95), the only thing I could taste was the griddle that the tiny piece of chicken had been cooked on. The bacon was also cold and fatty. Quite disappointing. Likewise, the portion sizes of the rest of the group's orders didnt really reflect the price unfortunately. That being said, the carvery station looked good and would try this if I visited again.

Ordered four fish & chip meals in addition to two other choices. All four were served up with overcooked chips many of which were dark brown and crispy. Two members of party did eat the chips. Fish was excellent but chips spoiled what should have been a nice family meal. Nowhere near H U normal standard.

Called in for the fresh carvery today.Freshly cooked gammon, but when I asked for some gammon, I was served with some which was hidden behind the fresh joint. Not fresh,a different colour to the fresh joint.I thought the idea of Toby carvery is that you see the fresh meat carved in front of you.Spoke to the manager and he said he would check about what I said and walked off and served someone else.Very unprofessional for a manager.
