Block in Taunton Deane

I came with my partner for brunch and it was delicious. Really tasty food and high quality ingredients. We found the atmosphere to be a little flat though - the staff were quiet and uninviting. The service was very laid back but we would have liked our plates to be cleared after eating, but they stayed there until we left the restaurant. With some tweaks, Block could be really good.

Visited today for brunch and was really impressed with the menu. Lots of different options and interesting dishes to try. Both of our dishes were beautifully presented and the food was fresh. Great that you can see the food being prepared and also sneak a peek at other orders for next time! Reasonably priced as well, we’ll definitely be back!

Visited on a Friday morning and enjoyed a delicious brunch. Freshly cooked to order and beautifully presented. A lovely varied selection of food and drinks to choose from the menu. The staff were welcoming very friendly. We chose poached eggs on sourdoughand scrambled eggs in a brioche bun. Will definitely visit again and thoroughly recommend! Many thanks.

Excellent food and friendly service. I had the meat-free, he had the Block full English. Everything is cooked freshly, perfect poached eggs (not easy to do), all excellent quality beautifully seasoned. Definitely the best breakfast/brunch in Taunton - and we've tried them all! Our second time here and it has rather spoilt it for anywhere else. Even the tea and coffee are good 👍.

Just dropped in for breakfast and will definitely now be a regular customer……the food was great, the coffee was great (they use Brazier from Wellington) and the staff were attentive throughout. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

I popped in for coffee while waiting for an appointment. I haven’t been here for about 5 years and what a lovely surprise it was. I succumbed to cherry Bakewell as well as coffee. Both were amazing. Service was friendly and the menu is really interesting; certainly not run of the mill. A couple at a nearby table sang the cafes praises too Will be back!

Outstanding food, different to anything I've had before. Comfort food but not your traditional choice. Great service, friendly and very reasonably priced.

We keep going back to Block. Some fantastic choices on the menu. We have tried most options and have loved everything. Excellent hot chocolate options too. We are extremely happy that Block is in Taunton.

Taunton has been crying out for a brunch spot like Block 🙌 3rd week in a row now and still more of the menu to try out. Top notch food, and some dishes you definitely won't be cooking at home in a hurry. Great prices, and just off the high st. Staff are lovely to boot! What's not to love?

Block Taunton is quite possibly the best breakfast I've ever had,the food is outstanding, and the staff are amazing, super friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble! If you want a good breakfast then come to Block Taunton.

The food is exceptional and the service is very good. I'm working my way through the menu, highly recommend chicken shawarma/Huevos Rancheros. (Minor feedback is when it's cold it's cold on here - wrap up warm, and there's not great ventilation)

Great brunch….nice to see an independent restaurant with a creative menu. Good vibe and friendly staff. Definitely will return.

This was a great place for lunch today! We loved it! We plan to visit again! I had the Beef barbacoa and Scott had the chorizo and peppers. So delicious! Would come back for the same dishes or try others. The staff was lovely and attentive. The atmosphere welcoming. The open kitchen concept is quite inviting and makes you feel at home. Delicious! A must try!

Popped in for a quick breakfast before a train journey to Devon. 1st they brought a Steaming hot mug of breakfast tea then the most amazing breakfast burger. I've had great breakfasts in a good old fashioned greasy spoon and even better ones in posher places but this Block breakfast was on another level. Will be back again soon.

Went here last Saturday for brunch with a friend who is vegan. She ordered the all day breakfast and asked for the vegan option with no mushrooms. One of the chefs brought our food over, and hers has mushrooms (which she didn’t want) as well as poached eggs (not vegan). She said ‘sorry, I ordered the vegan breakfast’ to which the chef replied ‘yeah, meat free’. My friend had to say ‘no, vegan. Those are eggs’. They then brought her breakfast out for a second time….. with halloumi on it. Again, she had to point out to the staff that cheese is not vegan, and the chef still didn’t seem to understand. The front of house staff were very apologetic but the chef seemed annoyed by the inconvenience. By this point my friend said she would keep this dish and just took the halloumi off her plate, so as not to be a ‘difficult vegan’. It’s worth noting that the vegan all day breakfast is listed on the menu, and so staff should be properly trained on the spec, it wasn’t something my friend was just requesting off the cuff. The front of house staff offered us a free drink but we we’d already had coffees so declined, so when they brought our bill over we had to pay full price for everything which was quite disappointing for a breakfast that was wrong twice. When we got our receipt we saw it was put through as ‘vegan breakfast, no mushroom’, so it wasn’t the front of house staff that had made the mistake. I think the chefs need more training on the menu and different dietary requirements, as such a mistake for someone with an intolerance/allergy could have been really bad. If you offer a vegan meal there’s really no reason to be getting it that wrong twice. My breakfast was nice but don’t think we will be returning unfortunately.

Absolutely love the idea of this restaurant, staff were warm and friendly, everything was clean, service was great. However, this is just our own personal preference, we found that the bacon was very over-cooked to the point whereby it was difficult to cut up, the toast was very burnt, we didn’t like the green stuff either, that said the eggs were poached to perfection and the coffee too was excellent! The waitress offered more toast but we couldn’t see the point. It was very refreshing to have an independent cafe and if I was to go again, I would ask for the bacon and toast not to be so ovet-cooked! I’ve made huge mistakes in my kitchen, so I don’t really want to hold this against the establishment!

This visit was an experiment as the previous cafe in these premises was not to our taste. The menu has some imagination as well as breakfast staples. My husband had the Brunch Burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. I tried the Turkish egg dish, menemen. I am not a vegetarian but this was delicious. Not highly spiced but lots of flavour. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic place for brunch. Food is delicious and really interesting menu.I had huevos rancheros. Delicious. Really fresh, and really well cooked. Can’t recommend this place enough. Only downside is restricted opening hours - til 3pm Weds to Sat only I think. Try it.

Fantastic food and service. Not noticed Block before but my partner suggested we headed there for brunch. Food was amazing quality, cooked fresh and extremely tasty. We both throughly loved it and will definitely be back. Service was excellent. Highly recommend

Would not recommend Block for breakfast. The avocado on toast was a joke as the ‘avocado’ was mushed to a thin paste and spread onto the toast. The additional poached egg (£1 additional price) was over cooked and to top it all, the waitress tried to charge us for someone else’s table! When we gave our feedback on the breakfast she was cheeky enough to comment, “I don’t expect you want to give a tip then”.

Met my daughters and grandchildren for lunch. Lovely menu, great atmosphere and really busy. The food was amazing, staff very attentive and lovely with the children. Will definitely be visiting again.
