The place is beautiful and a very tranquil setting but the food was a lead down. The sausage was such a small portion and the steak pie had nearly no filling in. The chips were very nice. The liver was a good portion and very tasty but rest dissapointing

We were fascinated that this up market care home/sheltered accommodation would have a restaurant open to the public. The house is glorious and seems like an hotel in many respects. We ate in the garden in lovely sunshine and ordered from a very small menu. Some of our meal was lovely, one main was overcooked and very small. However, it was a pleasant lunch and I'm glad we went. Nice staff and gastopub prices.

visited with wife and friend for lunch. The restaurant is part of a luxury retirement complex housed in a Georgian building restored to its full glory. The restaurant is spacious table well-spaced with full linen. The choice of all courses was excelled, well cooked and presented; the wine (Malbec) was a little pricy but well worth to cost (£28). two of us had duck and the friend sea bream, all served with the appropriate vegetables, the dessert of choice was Creme Brulee.Coffee to follw

Thought we would book Blandy’s for a Festive Menu lunch with friends. The website and menu said it was available from 12 Noon to 8.00pm, so we thought booking at 1.00pm would give us plenty of time to enjoy a relaxing meal and catch up in pleasant surroundings. I was surprised when the booking confirmation came back to say our table was booked for one hour from 1.00 to 2.00 pm so I queried this with the restaurant. After a 2nd email they eventually came back to me to say that contrary to the advertised times, the restaurant opens from 12 noon to 2.00pm when it closes for the afternoon and reopens from 5.00 to 8.00 pm in the evening. As such we felt that we would be under pressure to eat up when the restaurant was closing at 2.00pm, though they said we could stay there if we were still eating. Had we known that they closed at 2.00pm we would not have booked so have cancelled. They did say that we could hire a private dining room from 12.00 - 4.00pm at £125 which we declined. It is a great shame that the Blandy’s Festive Menu experience didnt live up to their advertisement or our expectations, so we decided to go elsewhere rather than take a chance.

I booked Blandy’s for a friends 29th birthday following a Google search of best places for afternoon tea in Wiltshire. Whilst I would definitely agree the food was lovely, unfortunately I don’t think it’s made clear on the website that the restaurant is located within a retirement village. Whilst I appreciate the choice to not advertise this clearly may be a conscious decision, unfortunately it left me feeling like I had been misled and disappointed. I vocalised my disappointment to the lady on the front desk and she completely understood my concerns, saying I wasn’t the first person to give this feedback. Lovely food but I would strongly recommend being more upfront with location and targeting a certain customer group. Otherwise certain people, including myself, are disappointed before even getting in the door.

We've eaten at Blandy's several times prior to and after covid. I booked lunch last week through the website for Bank Holiday Monday taking a 95 year old relative for a lunch treat. Arrived to time - receptionists & a chef having a jolly good natter. When we gave our name for the restaurant, One receptionist commented 'we're closed today, sic having a bar-b-que, sic I emailed you, sic the booking system should not have taken your booking, sic there's a nice pub down the road, let me open the door for you". A courtesy call suggesting Sunday lunch may have been more appropriate? Had we have been late for lunch would Blandy's have e-mailed or called? Perhaps as recession looms guests should be valued - your financial loss.

Visited for Afternoon Tea with friends. Reception was welcoming but unfortunately that was our last good experience. We had booked for 4 but our friend had to go to A&E at the last minute. They couldn’t have cared less and insisted on serving all 4 teas and charging us full price for 4, even when we explained the emergency situation. Sandwiches were all pre-made and there was no indication of what these would be before they were served. One of our party is gluten-free and when she was given gluten-free sandwiches that she couldn’t eat, she asked to change them and was told there was only enough gluten-free bread for what they’d already made so she had to have those. The tea itself was fine, but nothing amazing. Not particularly good for the money, even without the extra charge. Real shame as when we first arrived I said that I might bring my Mum for Mother’s Day but I definitely won’t go back again.

Stumbled across quite by chance when looking for somewhere to book dinner at short notice with friends. Am often sceptical when there is still availability last minute at a quality restaurant, however there was nothing to worry about when it came to the quality of food and great service at Blandy's. On par with any other fine dining restaurants we have visited. It may be unexpectedly located in a beautiful retirement village but do not let this dissuade you from such an excellent restaurant in the most beautiful surroundings. Do not overlook Blandy's on your dining experience search. You won't be dissapointed and we will be going back.

Myself and a friend booked a table for afternoon tea at Blandys for a long overdue catch up. The setting is beautiful, very impressive grounds and stunning dining areas. We were greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff and shown to our table. We decided to upgrade our tea and had a lovely glass of Prosecco. The food arrived promptly and was beautifully presented. There was a selection of finger sandwiches with 5 different fillings, all were delicious, the smoked salmon, cucumber and horseradish ones were divine! Next was cake! What can I say? Cake, brownie, tart AND apple crumble, all bases covered and it was clear that all had been made in-house, very impressive! You’d think we didn’t have room for the homemade scones, clotted cream and jam but we did! Myself and my friend had such a lovely couple of hours in this gorgeous place and we will most definitely be returning. I would 100% recommend. Arrived for the relaxation package with my guest, spa was lovely. No tea/coffee on arrival as advertised. Treatments didn’t begin on time as booked but ended on the hour even though we were on time. However, it was a lovely experience and was throughly looking forward to afternoon tea in the restaurant. Arrived to be told no booking was made and could I come back tomorrow? Next it was we don’t have staff to serve you. When the kitchen confirmed they could accommodate us we had to wait 40 mins to be served. A further party of 3 came in to be told also no booking was on the system but could be accommodated, offered a complimentary drink and moved to the opposite restaurant. When we were eventually offered a complimentary drink to compensate for the wait only one drink arrived. When the service did begin no tea arrived and we had to ask for it. The sandwiches looked like they had been thrown at the plate, filling bulging from between the bread & the scones were over cooked. When you take into consideration the price of the treatments we had done & the afternoon tea we paid a Saturday surcharge for nothing! Would of been cheaper to book everything individually yet you would presume you were getting a better deal by booking the package. Throughly disappointed with Inglewood.

Perhaps the good folks of Hungerford, Newbury and round about have yet to hear about Blandys - four diners on a Saturday night would normally be a sign of a restaurant's quality but that is not the case at Blandys. Perhaps it is the narrow roads that put the local's off. or the fact it is located in an a retirement village. In any case, Blandys is very good. The bar and restaurant are not signposted from outside what is an impressive building, but once you find it, then what a quality establishment this is. The food matches - an excellent, tailored caesar salad and crab with langoustine aranciins were superb. A fillet steak cooked to perfection and a decent sole dish were very good. Wines are reasonably priced and service is enthusiastic if lacking a little polish. A great find but a shame it lacks atmosphere thanks to so few guests.

Gert and Jesus were extremely helpful and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for them. Our reception yesterday was perfect. We had canapés and bubbles on arrival - the canapés being varied, tasty and plentiful. The main courses were delicious, hot, beautifully presented and again, plentiful and the deserts, exquisite. Took my wife for an Afternoon tea.  The finger sandwiches, warm fruit scones and pasties were all very tasty.  We did ask for a few more sandwiches but was advised that the chef didn’t have any spare sandwiches.  As we have experienced a lot of afternoon cream tea’s, a couple of things let down the experience – lack of menu for the selection of teas / coffee’s available and also we had to ask for a fork to eat the pasties and slice of Victoria sponge (as didn’t want to eat it with our fingers plus the knife provided). Plus a lack of attentive by the staff, as you had to ask for items (like more coffee etc) and it would be better if they was more proactive and they asked you if you wanted another drink.  Would we go back again, probably yes.

Booked in for afternoon tea with 3 friends, on arrival the building and grounds were stunning, good start. We were taken to the bar as we were slightly early an ordered a bottle of prosecco which turned out to be £38 a little over the top but it was nice. We were taken to the dining room with was full of period and interesting features but sadly the tea was dissapointing. 4 fingers of 1 inch wide sandwiches, egg and cress, tuna, salmon and soft cheese and the chicken and taragon which was really very nice. The scones were nice with clotted cream but the jam was shop brought and came in mini jars. Out of the 4 cakes 2 were really nice but the Victoria sponge and the miniture cup cake had a wierd malty flavour to them which the waiter couldn't explain. Half way through our tea we remembered we were supposed to be having free flowing pimms but we were informed you had to ask for it so we did. It tasted like a jug of coloured lemonade with lots of fruit in it, except the last one (which was poured when the bar person was on her break) and tasted of pimms and was nicely chilled. Very polite service, beautiful surroundings but the food let it down for the price.

Had book afternoon tea as a pre Christmas tea treat for my parents. Warm welcome but sadly the room I had been told we were having tea in was now being used for a wake. We were shown to a table in a corner by the bar and a door leading to the out side. Before even sitting down the door was opened 7 times letting very cold air in! Not the start I was looking for. We asked to move. This was done but we were in a thoroughfare and people kept coming and going. We could still feel a draught. Very distracting and noisy. The food was excellent and well presented. I feel the Blandy should have phoned me prior to our visit to explain that the room we were promised was no longer available. I would have gone elsewhere. Do not advertise for non residents to eat in if they are treated as second class to residents. I would not go again as I asked them to phone me to discuss what had happened and to date no call has been received. Very disappointing.

To celebrate my daughter's 19th birthday, I treated her and the rest of my family to lunch there. We dined in the Restaurant looking over the stunning Inglewood grounds. We were warmly welcomed by the receptionist and taken to our prepared table. We experienced excellent service by a designated waiter who ensured that we had everything that we needed to make the meal very special. My daughter is very allergic to nuts, so in preparation of our visit, I had two conversations with the kitchen team who assured me that they would reduce the risk of nut contamination. They went out of their way to keep her safe by alerting all the Food and Beverage staff on duty and they changed the menu for the day to avoid the risk. The Inglewood team gave my daughter a very special and memorable experience. The staff were attentive and personable and the food was fabulous. I cannot thank them enough and I highly recommend a visit to their Bistro and Restaurant.

Four of us went for an afternoon tea here. A special treat for the Mother In Law. The restaurant is clean and spacious. The staff are very welcoming and chatty. The tea itself was a lovely spread, well presented. Variety of homemade cakes, tasty and light. The price is reasonable for what you get. I would definitely make a return visit. The MIL thoroughly enjoyed it :-)

My friend and I decided to treat ourselves to lunch after a spa treatment. We had fish (1) & Scampi (1). We ordered the regular ones. The meal was very nice but only a very small piece of fish and 6 Chunky chips with some crushed peas. For £13.50 I think it could have been bigger! We orders a dessert each - again beautifully presented but tiny for £7. Then to our dismay my friend discovered a hair in it! We quietly told the waiter, and he replaced it. There was a 10% reduction on the bill, which was nice. Not sure if the meals were small because of the age of most of the clientele, but it works out very expensive. We also noticed that "residents" had a larger choice, and a bigger meal?

Went with a friend for afternoon tea and everything about our visit was lovely. It was tricky to find, but a phone call put us on the right track. The staff were helpful but discreet, just the right balance. We had a selection of sandwiches, scones, small cakes and a mini desert. The tea was a lovely quality - Teapigs - with a pot each. I particularly liked the scones with an unusual hint of citrus peel. We finished our afternoon on the terrace with a drink from the bar. Just perfect.

An impromptu Sunday lunch after a day strolling around the arcades of hungerford led us to taking a reservation here. Firstly, this is an old people home. There are plenty of slightly, sad people, dining alone, and a few families obviously catching up with their loved ones. Most diners were crammed into a side room and around the bar, we were the only diners in an empty, but plush restaurant. A terrine of chicken was beautifully made served with a chutney that could have done with more acidity. The advertised sourdough (I have a team of bakers that make 6 sourdough types a day) was just poor quality bread. I asked the waitress if I could have some sourdough, as I am a big fan, and also for research purposes. She returned from the kitchen with more of the poor quality bread and explained that it was a sourdough. I told the waitress that it wasn't. There was no crumb of note. A very poor crust, and zero flavour from a supposed lactobacillus bacteria. I explained that the 'chef' was either an idiot or a liar as this was completely falsely advertised. Two of the three roasts were unavailable, so the options were solely salmon with a hollandaise based sauce or a topside of beef. The beef was over cooked, the vegetables complete minutes past their best and an unseasoned Yorkshire pudding. The salmon, that I asked to be cooked blue, was cooked well. The same miserable vegetable garnish as the beef, a split chive sauce that had a mixture of dulled green herbs (from being reused over the whole lunch service) with a few bright green ones thrown in at the end for luck. Very very lazy cooking. The potatoes simply oozed grease as they were touched. An incredible feat of making a starch crispy in few places, mostly soggy in others and possibly undercooked of just the wrong potato internally. We skipped dessert. With the exception of the excellent Terrine and the cooking of the salmon(hence 2 stars not 1), this was an appalling meal. A chef who is used to being flexible with the truth to the older generation customer base and prepared to send out split sauces, poorly cooked beef and vegetables. This place deserves better. Service was amateurish at best, with both barman and waitress completely out of their depth. A very poor restaurant on every level.

I visited Blandy's for afternoon tea to celebrate a friends birthday. The venue itself is a very grand building and is very nicely decorated throughout - both grand and quite modern. One of party has a nut allergy and the chef himself came out to detail what all of the different cakes were. He then brought out some additional cakes to replace those which did contain nuts - very good service.A few members of our group had opted for the 'Picnic Afternoon Tea' which was to also include a pork pie, and be served with Pimms. First we were told that they were out of Pimms, so only 2 people could have it - fair enough. We were then told that the pork pie was no longer part of the offer and that it was quite an old offer - one which is still currently listed on the website. The final insult was that the price of the Picnic Afternoon Tea was also a bit more expensive than currently listed on the website - less food for more money always tends to leave a bad taste in anyones mouth.Having had this explained as the food and drinks were brought to the table, we didn't see any staff again until one of us had to go and seek them out to request the bill, another having to then go and find one of them so that we could pay.The quality of the food was very good and we all left quite stuffed, but the 'very out of date offer' and waiting staff who seemed very disinterested in our presence tarnished the afternoon.

I found this place via Tripadvisor and booked before I realised it was in a retirement village. I'm glad I did because that might have made me think again but on arrival it's just like entering a smart hotel. Tucked away between Hungerford and Kintbury, this is a real gem. We enjoyed a 2 course Sunday roast of the highest quality for £19.50pp. Absolutely delicious food in very nice surroundings. In summer you can sit out on the terrace. We will return soon to try the afternoon tea and possibly an Elemis treatment at the spa. Fab!

Best Sunday lunch I have had in ages! Very comfortable and stylish restaurant. Every bite was delicious! Going back tonight for dinner with my husband.Hopefully this visit will equal our last experience. The only negative is that not enough people visit this restaurant as maybe it is a little out of the way...therefore sometimes a little quiet. Maybe some back ground soft music would help. I have sometimes had trouble parking which is bit strange when it is set in acres of land.

This Bistro is part of the Audley Inglewood retirement village, in the former Inglewood Manor, it is well off the beaten track and would be nice to visit in the summer to enjoy the 39 acre grounds. We met our son and daughter in-law there for lunch as it is approx. half way between our homes. We had not been before but enjoyed the meal very much. Most of the other diners were residents of a certain age, but this did not distract from an enjoyable meal in a lovely building.

Decided to take the mother-in-law out for an airing and celebrate her birthday and did so with a fine Sunday Lunch, which turned out to be the best roast I have "ever" had!The only very minor crisisim was the delay between starter and the main, apparently due to a shortage of chef's on the day and a very full restaurant, however this was compensated without prompting on the final bill. The Walmesley Restaurant itself is very well appointed and comfortable and thus provides a very pleasent dining experience, made more so my the friendly staff.

We were treated to afternoon tea for a birthday treat. A nice selection of sandwiches, 2 scones each and cakes. The setting was lovely but such a shame about the service. We had to ask for milk and teaspoons when the drinks arrived. After we had finished our tea we realised that we were entitled to a glass of Prosecco each which we should have had at the beginning, when we mentioned this it was served, but we had already finished eating. It was a lovely venue, but if they are doing offers in the hope of attracting repeat business they will have to put more effort and attention into their service. OK, but we have had much better service elsewhere and sadly will not be returning.

I've lived in Newbury for years and came across this place by accident, so booked a table. The building is really impressive, but the signage could be much clearer. The bar and bistro is really lovely - decor is superb. As it's situated in a retirement village many of the residents obviously use the bistro, so the chances are you'll feel very young - better than feeling very old right?!The food and service were both excellent. We've been to most of the 'top' restaurants in Newbury (and surrounding area) recently and this is very much up there with the best. In my opinion it was good value too (when compared to other restaurants of the same ilk). A well kept secret!

We booked a table on my son's recommendation as he works here and we were not disappointed. We are all big foodies and have eaten in a number of Michelin starred restuarants accross the UK including a 2 star restaurant/pub not too far distant!. But I can honestly say that this is without doubt the best meal I have ever had! We had the six course taster menu which apart from being fantastic value was absolutely exceptional. The star of the menu was the prawn dumpling with poached squid in an Asian honey consome which was divine and that's from someone who's not a big seafood fan. Although it was closely pushed by the crispy duck breast with baby vegetables and candy beetroot and the sea bass dish with lobster bisque. The balance of the menu was exquisite and the service was exemplary. The restuartant is situated at Inglewood House in Kintbury and is in a stunning location, set in plush surroundings with an air of elegance, although the ambience is still very pleasant and relaxing. It's a little off the beaten tracck but it's well worth seeking out but don't just take my advice go and try it for yourself - you wont' be disappointed! I'm already planning my next visit - I can't wait!

Although family members had recommended this restaurant some months ago, this was our first visit. We were initially confused by the lack of any signage. It is within the Inglewood retirement complex - but we didn't know to go in the front door and so drove around for a while looking for a different entrance. The building looks to be a classic converted country mansion, but apparently, it has been completely rebuilt. The interior decor is stylish - if a little formulaic, which is OK, but it lacks the quirky charm of an old country house. The central bar has two adjacent dining rooms - one as a bistro and one as the restaurant - although there wasn't anything obvious to differentiate between them. All three rooms were light, airy and spacious with well spaced tables. We were offered drinks in the bar, which were accompanied with a dish of olives and a dish of delicious crispy coated peanuts. We quickly finished these nibbles, and the waitress immediately replenished them.We chose our food and were shown to an impressively large table in the main restaurant. They served us a delicious crusty bread selection with butter and an olive oil / balsamic vinegar dip. The bread tasted homemade - but apparently, this was bought in.My starter was a selection of differently prepared salmon. Very tasty. My wife had mackerel with broad beans and chorizo. She thought it was tasty, but didn't think the chorizo went particularly well. For the main course I chose duck - which again was prepared in two different ways. It was cooked to perfection and served on a bed of cabbage and with creamed potato. The rest of the party chose breast of chicken - served with a mini chicken pie. The breast was a little large - almost enough for two people!I had gooseberry crumble for pudding - delicious. My wife chose fresh fruit salad - which she thought was a bit boring and should have had a better choice of summer fruits. It also lacked any kind of syrup - so it was a bit dry. She also didn't think the sorbet had enough flavour - but accepted that this was just personal choice. The wines were mid range - not too pricy and perfectly OK.We finished with teas and coffees - served with petit fours. The bill came to around £160 for four people, which I felt was reasonable.

I booked afternoon tea for my sister's birthday which was made clear on booking, no extra effort was made to make it special. We are not local & although we were aware it is located in a retirement village were not expecting to be the youngest customers by 30 years (are both in our late 40's). The decor is beautiful but the ambience is poor. The sandwiches were soggy & came in 2 flavours, 1 of which was unidentifiable, the cakes unexciting & the scones overdone. The staff although pleasant were not very attentive. Overall a very disappointing afternoon.
