Blackhouse in Leeds

Brilliant date night! We arrived early to catch the last of the sunshine on the balcony with 241 cocktails. We then moved inside and enjoyed amazing food served by the fabulous Nellie. We highly recommend the chateaubriand and the new Malbec wine we were encouraged to try was beautiful. Nellie went above and beyond to make our night the best and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks Nellie and the rest of the team, we’ll be back soon

Maddie ! What stood out most was our server, Maddy. She was friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely looked after. She struck a great balance—checking in at the right moments without being overbearing, and offering helpful menu advice without any sales pitch. It was clear she cared about our experience and wanted us to have a good time. All in all, The Blockhouse is a great spot for a relaxed, quality meal in Leeds. And if you’re lucky enough to be served by Maddy, you’ll be in very good hands.

I have always found the Blackhouse food and service to be excellent and have visited five or six times when in Leeds. My friend and I dined there tonight, Friday the 26th of April, at 8.30 and were delighted to meet Maddy again who remembered us both from the last time we ate there. Maddy is exceptionally skilled at listening and serving promptly the excellent food on offer. She’s a delight, very professional, knowledgeable and a lovely young lady. A real credit to the restaurant. Thanks again.

I must sing the praises of Blackhouse in Leeds, where mine senses were most pleased by the delightful bottomless brunch offered. The food, rich and bountiful, didst satisfy the deepest of hungers, whilst the drinks flowed freely, like the rivers of old. But it was our fair server, Mistress Kitty, who didst elevate the experience beyond measure. With a wit sharp as a sword and a kindness that warmed the heart, she tended to our every need with grace and mirth. A true servant of hospitality, she made the feast all the more joyous. If thou art in Leeds, seek ye Blackhouse and indulge thyself in both the fare and the company of such a fine establishment. Five stars, indeed!

Always the best food, but we upgraded our bottomless brunch and it was all the way worth the drinks! Our sever Kitty was fabulous, super friendly, attentive and all round great vibes! Had a wonderful time and will be back soon!

Perfect afternoon as always at Blackhouse with the one of a kind Kitty! Went for Mother’s Day, Sunday lunch was amazing (Yorkshire pudding stole the show) my mum was super happy with her little goody bag as well. Thank you ♥️

Had a fantastic meal here last night with my friend, a good few years since I’ve last been (due to living overseas). We were well looked after by Bart and Kitty, who were friendly, responsive and had great senses of humour. Thanks guys - we’ll be back!

Nice atmosphere, almost impeccable service but the steak and peppercorn sauce tasted as if a pot of salt had been spilt on it. The sauce was inedible. The fillet steak was also tough. Not impressed with the food.

Atmosphere given a 3 star only because it was a Monday at the start of the month very quiet throughout leeds, food was exceptionally good value

Had an amazing experience on Friday night, the waiter was great at recommending dishes and overall very friendly. The food was great quality and cooked to perfection. We were too full for a desert but they looked lovely. The atmosphere was amazing it was lovely to have a live singer. Will definitely be coming back

I had an amazing experience here! I came with my partner and we ordered the half chicken and the sea bream, the food was amazing and very fresh. I want to give a big shout out to Derek who was our server the whole night. He was so attentive and had a great knowledge on the food, and gave some great suggestions. He checked back on us on several occasions which was very much appreciated. I would come back again!!

Me and my friend went for a three course christmas lunch. I put my arm on the table and it was sticky. It stuck to my sheer long sleeved top which then was stuck onto my skin. I asked for a cloth to wipe it. I got given blue roll which then just added to my sheer black top. The food wasn't bad but we were charged an extra £1.50 for gravy which seems excessive given the cost of the meal already. I ordered a red wine. It came and there were bits of cork floating in it. I didn't want to make a fuss but the waitress saw me fishing out with a spoon and came over. She saw the cork bits and replaced. All in all I was pretty disappointed. It is a shame because from the outside it looks lovely.

Went out for the Eat Leeds Restaurant Week, has an amazing 2 course meal in Blackhouse with a cocktail of any choice. Kitty who served our table is really kind and friendly. We did not realise we couldn’t bring dogs in to sit with us indoors, but we had a big group with us and there isn’t a big enough table outside. Really grateful we were allowed to bring our well behaved dog inside at last. Thanks to all the staff, and great food! Definitely coming back for the wagyu beef next time as recommended by Kitty.

Came here with my partner for a nice evening out, and we were not disappointed. The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated with an amazing ambience. We were served by a lovely young lady called Kitty, whose service was exemplary and always had a smile. We started with the Camembert to share, and it was truly delectable and perfect to start off the evening. We proceeded with steaks for our mains, a rump steak with mac and cheese for my partner and sirloin steak with the skinny fries for myself. Well! They were resplendent and cooked to perfection. It wasn't long before the plates were cleared. My only concern was the piano player who was very talented. He just happened to sing too loud. As my partner is deaf in one ear, Kitty our server had to communicate with me alone, and I then relayed the information to his good ear. While she was extremely apologetic for the singing and continued to apologise every time she came to the table as she felt my partner was being left out due to only communicating with me she couldn't have been more diligent in her duties. Shout out to a truly lovely lady. This place is definitely worth a visit but can be on the pricier side of things. All in all, a lovely place to spend an evening but the piano doesn't need singing with it. The music alone is enough to set the tone.

Is it a wine bar or a restaurant and will there be enough food? Group booked a table for 20:00, seated at 20:20, orders taken 20:55, I would say that is slow. It was complicated by them running out of food as the order was taken and then having to come to get a change of order, in my case not once but twice. My third choice main was average. Why do some items on the menu come as a complete dish and others you need to order additional sides? £4.75 for peas is a bit much. With regard to atmosphere, I didn't enjoy the background tinkling of the piano player, possibly acceptable in a place solely for drinks but for me not in a restaurant that already has significant background noise. Won't be going again as there are much better places.

We visited here yesterday for my wife's 40th birthday and can not fault the place. This is our 2nd time here and both times excellent. Staff brilliant food excellent They even brought my wife a dessert with a candle in it. Definitely recommend this place

My experience was fantastic, I had steak there and I can say the best steak in leeds so far, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The only problem I had was, since the restaurant was a bit busy, we couldn’t get what we wanted as quickly as possible, so we had to wait. But overall was a great experience.

Amazing meal and service, attentive and well informed. Definitely worth it. Calamari starter, steak sandwich special and sticky toffee pudding all perfect.

Had a Sunday afternoon meal with 2 adults and a toddler at Blackhouse in Leeds. We found it to be child friendly, with all the waiting staff very accommodating of our 1 year old. The restaurant is clean, airy and has a good steakhouse feel to it. We ordered Sunday roast and steak. Both were very good and the kids meal was tasty and generous - and reasonably priced. Wine options were good. We had a birthday £20 voucher and the staff weren't difficult about us using this. All in all, a option for a steakhouse in Leeds, with great service and good food. Would recommend and return.

Had such a lovely lunch at blackhouse, the lovely Phoebe was amazing as always. Very generous portion sizes on the lunch menu!

We attended blackhouse as an engagement celebration as a group of 4. The entire time we had flies (mainly fruit flies which is concerning) around us and a big beetle fell on my head. We told the staff and she apologised but did nothing about it. My medium rare steak was very overcooked and was well done. When you’re paying £27 for a steak alone you expect it to be cooked right.

I've loved this place for such a long time. Yesterday's visit was celebrating an anniversary. Food was fabulous. The pea croquettes were outstanding! Service was excellent, attentive and personal. Emily, thank you for making our day so memorable. Loved the cocktail tales, too. See you again soon!

I've been dining at The Blackhouse in Leeds for a number of years now but last nights starter,main and dessert were outstanding!! Thankyou for a great experience and also to your staff who were brilliant!!

Tom is one of those rare gems you find very occasionally in hospitality. He is an asset to your ‘restaurant’ - look after him, because guys like this are rare 🍔🍗

Good place for meetings over lunch

Fantastic restaurant 3rd time coming to this place and my steak is always cooked to perfection and service is wonderful. Believe we had Tom in the last lunch trip, lovely guy, and very attentive. Just one bit of feedback is to get more varied on the side dishes as they can be quite plain

Had lunch in here today and I must say the steak was outstanding, the chips even tasted a bit unique and loved those too. Was a flying visit to Leeds so never been before but I'd definitely recommend this place for anyone reading my review. Thanks to all the staff

I found this restaurant as I was looking for some fish restaurants in Leeds. Unfortunately, when I arrived they had run out of swordfish, which was mentioned in many reviews. They do have a seabream in the Grill section, I asked the waiter if it is grilled or pan-fried and if it is the whole fish or only the fillet. “Grilled and it comes as a whole fish”. Great, I thought! I received a pan-fried small fillet. Quite disappointing. I had a tuna tartare as a starter, nothing special to be honest.

Absolutely fantastic, food 100% delicious and displayed wonderfully on the plates when delivered, staff are Absolutely wonderful happy be there and always friendly. High prices but worth it for the quality of the food. Steak cooked medium rare amazingly. Highly recommend the duck liver parfait and the rump steak.

Fantastic place! Great food excellent cocktails and absolutely amazing staff. Me and my boyfriend went to celebrate our anniversary and valentine's all in one, the place was packed and every server apologised for the waiting between drinks and courses. They even gave us our desserts for free due to the long waits (super polite and kind). The food was so good we would definitely come again. The only fault is that we were situated right by the doors so every time it opened we got the full brunt of the cold ❄️ But all in all a brilliant place Thank you for your excellent service

Overpriced for a very basic meal on a very basic menu won't be coming back can get more choice and better food at Miller and Carter for half the price

Visited Blackhouse tonight for the very first time. We’ve wanted to go for a long time and this was our valentines meal. The place itself has a lovely atmosphere and it’s really well done out, the staff were also really attentive, friendly and quick with their service. Unfortunately, we were massively disappointed with our food. We both ordered fillet steaks, my steak came out rare/blue eventhough I’d asked for medium. I did ask if it could be cooked slightly more to which the staff happily obliged. But, both mine and my partners steaks were terrible, very hard to cut and very chewy which you do not expect when you’re paying so much for a steak. Our bill came to £110 and we also left our waiter a £10 cash tip. That’s an awful lot of money to come away feeling like you didn’t enjoy your meal.

Well this just shows how much they take customer feed back. Jasmin asked me to email her directly to discuss. I did, but guess what? You're right, did she reply. Nope not a chance. All adds to my opinion, never again. 0 stars would be better. What a very disappointing experience. Last minute decision and the place was empty. A little Xmas treat, as my wife has always wanted to have a meal in there. Drinks were mega expensive. nearly £17 - for just 2 drinks. £7 a pint really! and a glass of wine before the meal. We decided to have steaks. at £34 & £27 but to my surprise we had to pay extra for 1 - Chips x 2 2 - Sauces x 2 3 - Peas x 1 4 - beans X1 Total for extras £25.50 come on how can you charge this much. If I pay £34 for a steak I would expect to get a full meal. The steak was not the best I have had by a long way, quite poor really. Then £36 for bottle of the basic "House Wine" What a rip off! In Our Opinion (please remember that) it was an extremely expensive evening meal for what we got. I'm not surprised hospitality is on it's knees. They need to live in the real world. The waiter who served us was rather arrogant as well. I will never ever go in there again. So don't be surprised at your bill when it comes. Sorry but not for me.

First time here and really enjoyed it! We were in town for Leeds United match coming from Chicago, USA. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza hotel close by. Concierge recommended we go for dinner, good service and really great food and drinks! Started with garlic bread, peppers, then prawns, chorizo and calamari starters, all were very tasty. Fish pie and pork chop were outstanding. Finished with raspberry creme brule, chocolate mousse and cappuccino for dessert. The place has an excellent vibe and great energy, definitely worth coming back for a visit.

Nipped for a meal with friends, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was good, can someone explain why a service charge is added? Why do we have to pay extra for something your boss pays you to do?

Bit torn on this as originally we wanted the Ox cheek but were told it was sold out (it probably is as good as it sounds then. The dishes we then went for lacked alot of flavour and it would be hard to see this just being a one off. Also seems like they tried to put too many tables into the space they have, so it also felt quite cramped. Below par for what I originally expected.

The steaks were cooked nicely. Decent char and juicy inside. The menu was limited for selection and not a great amount of sides to chose from. Service was slow, took a while to get our drinks but the servers were nice.

If you are looking for a relaxing atmosphere with good quality food and wine at reasonable prices then this is not for you. The waiting staff were attentive which is it's only good point. I accept it is getting into the Christmas season which accounts for the noisy corporate clientele but even the background music was too loud. It was a struggle to talk over it all. The only choice was a three course set menu which at £37.50 per head was very disappointing. Wine at £33 was at least drinkable!

While the food was nice, the waiter was surly and impatient. Towards the end of our meal they told us they were hungover. They also told us they are no longer doing crackers for Christmas meals as it's a pain to clear up afterwards. We also had to ask for our bill to be corrected.

Excellent restaurant. I find steak houses to be hit and miss, but the food here was fantastic. The steak was cooked perfectly and you could taste the quality of the ingredients. I recommend the Black House chips and roasted carrots as sides. Would recommend. (Marked down on atmosphere because they need to turn up their heating and the gents WC's has faulty lighting.)

We ordered Ribeye and Ox Cheek. They were great notably the steak. To conclude, we tasted Raspberry Creme Brule which was amazing as well. Highly recommended.

I really hate to write a negative review, but as I've emailed the restaurant twice and had no response, i feel i have no choice. I used to be a big fan of Blackhouse but the quality seems to have dramatically dropped. I ordered the Monk fish, which was honestly the worst meal i've ever had in a restaurant. The portion was small, the fish had clearly been frozen with zero flavour (was tiny), the cous cous had zero seasoning. I was out with a client and our table was COVERED with flies! It was embarrassing that my client was swatting flies from his face throughout the meal. Like i say, i've expressed these concerns via email (twice) and feel disappointed i've not heard back.

Terrible experience last night, waited well over an hour for our mains, was sub par food, most of the steaks were cooked wrong. Totally different experience to last year, which was phenomenally good. Meh.
