I recently had the unfortunate experience of visiting this place, and I have to say it was the worst meal I've ever had. The fries were drenched in oil, soggy, and tasted absolutely awful. The fish was even worse, with a strong dirty oil smell that made it completely inedible. It was clear that the oil used was old and poorly maintained. Overall, it was a highly disappointing experience, and I will never be going back. Avoid this place at all costs!

i popped in for a bag of chips as was late home i tried one as he was wrapping them up & thought the oil tasted stale. shouldve said something really as when i got home& sat down to eat they tasted awful, completely stale oil:/ and at £3.20 a go i wont be going back there in a hurry:/

I once said the previous owners offering was awful but now under new ownership all has changed the guys cooking are I believe from Cyprus they are very friendly & cook fresh fish well! The portions are good & they even have decent mushy peas they also cook chicken fish & chips £6.50 get one chips between two quite sufficient for most!

We were visiting the UK from NY and were staying at the Claredon hotel. Unfortunately our rooms were not ready so we checked in our luggage at the hotel and decided to walk into town to see what restaurants were in the area. After walking around Black Heath we came across this restaurant and seemed like a good spot. It is not a large location but there tables inside that you can sit and eat. There is also an outdoor seating area as well. Overall we enjoyed our meals. The serving sizes are rather large so in all honestly my husband and I could have shared one meal instead of ordering two separate meals.

Got fish and chips and a few pieces of wings, and they were all simply amazing! I genuinely believe these might be the best chips I have ever eaten in my life, the place is worth visiting solely to try the chips out!

I popped in for some chips and wasn't expecting much out of the ordinary but the chips were fantastic. Soft and crisp but not soggy or greasy. Perfect chipshop chips. Honestly the nicest I've had in a few years. Pleasant and quick service.too. Not particularly cheap but well worth the money.

The place does not look very appealing, and some TripAdvisor reviews were not great, so I hesitated. However, I was returning home late and did not wish to cook or order, so I decided to give it a shot. The portion of fish and chips I got was super large and it was also very tasty. I would argue that the prices are somewhat high for a fish and chips shop (I paid c.GBP11 for cod with chips and mushy peas). However, you can probably share one portion among 2 people, so large it is. I will come to this place again.

I am so annoyed I didn't check any of the reviews for this place. What a mistake. Obviously the owners don't care as the reviews have been so terrible for so long and the food is awful. We thought it might be a treat to get fish and chips on a sunny day and popped in here. After ordering I was surprised to see that we were being served chips from a container, rather than being fried there, same with the fish. Everything is just sitting in a heated area. The chips were undercooked and tasteless, the cod was greasy and tasted horrible, same with the battered sausage. The only positive was that we learned to never to waste our money there again.

As the weather was glorious decided to take a stroll on Blackheath. We got a bit peckish & saw this fish shop. Bought 4 pieces of chicken & a portion of chips!! Terrible!! A couple of portions were so dry as if they had been cooked the day before and the rest hadn't been cooked through, blood still visible on the bone!! £9.10!! Never again!!!

TripAdvisor is pretty reliable when it comes to reviews.... The desperate need of some comfort food during a national lockdown meant ignoring previous reviews on TripAdvisor taking the plunge of ordering fish and chips from this place. Externally looks quite innocent in a village like surroundings but inside presents the illusion of a former kebab shop turned fish & chips shop. When you see “cod and chips” on the menu followed by “fish and chips” one needs to wonder if the cook cannot identify the fish or is it frozen processed fish? RED FLAG MOMENT! As for the food the freshly cooked “cod” had a smooth rock hard batter that helped contain the limited fish together. The chips helped inflate the overal rating. If you have overseas visitors looking for their first UK fish and chips experience within blackheath try a pub!

Definitely the worst fish and chips ever, I greatly regret two things - not checking trip adviser before going in and then not taking back the terrible food we were served.

I went in with a colleague to get a take away as we work close by. I decided on the chicken/mushroom pie and chips with gravy for lunch. The chips were ok, for me a reasonable portion as I didn't want that many anyway. The gravy was extremely thick, and cold. The pie was warm on the outside crust bit, but stone cold in the middle. I made the best of it as I couldn't be bothered to go back. I added a bit of water to the gravy and microwaved it. I also microwaved the pie. A shame really as there isn't much around here and I didn't have anything at home I could bring in. I think I'll go up the road to he little shop that sells bread, beans etc in the future and only have pie/chips from my local one to home! Such a shame.

Portion sizes - particularly chips - are pretty poor for the prices; a large chips here is pretty much the size of a small portion in most other chip shops I go to. Chips are really good in my opinion, just a bit of a rip-off!

I went in here today with my white stick clearly visible. They tried to charge me 1.95 for a can of Sprite. I queried this and they dropped it to 1.20. No apology. The chips were rubbish as well.

Soggy batter, over cooked fish and the chips were not great. We went as we were really hungry and were waiting for a taxi, really wish we hadn't bothered. Go to the Vintage Fish down the hill which is 100% better.

Oh my goodness, this place is terrible! Came home late from work really hungry, too tired to cook so decided to give the place another try after not eating there for nearly 3 years. I recall back then I had undercooked, cold, anaemic looking chips soaked in vinegar by the server and fish that was mushy with far from crisp batter. Omg, it was like an identical experience 3 years later. Into the bin it went — again!! How disgraceful. What a senseless waste of food and money. Learn to love cooking the best fish and chips guys - how hard can it be? Need some cooking lessons? You clearly don’t take any pride in what you do. How are these people still in business? This is a mystery. Sloppy and uncaring cooking, sloppy and uncaring customer service. I asked for fresh fish and chips and got some vile excuse for what should be one of the tastiest dishes around. My American friends came to stay with me and asked for takeaway fish and chips. I was so pleased I had the knowledge to be spared the embarrassment and overpriced expense of treating them to this place. Will be going down to Lee in future for Fish and Chips cooked the proper way and served by friendly people in clean surroundings

Regular customer who has been buying fish and chips from here for the past three years, however was refused service this evening because I had Scottish bank notes! This is ridiculous in 2019 and the fact they would rather waste the food and frow it out than accept my money is stupid! There’s also plenty of Scots living in Blackheath so I am sure this can’t be the first time someone has come in with Scottish notes! Won’t be coming back.Show less

Had previously avoided this place after the way I saw the manager speaking to his staff. Went one Saturday night after being out and the new manager was lovely and chips weren't bad either.

Only moved to the area 6 months ago and thought we’d try this place.... wish we hadn’t as it was awful!

Terrible. Dirty and at 12.30 had a couple of shrivelled fish cakes, battered sausages but no fish, pies or anything decent on display. Sad looking place. One bloke serving. Has gone downhill a lot as used to be passable, I recall decent chips at least, but now can’t even get that right.

Las papas fritas estaban casi frías, de una calidad bastante mala. El cod el único sabor que tenía era a aceite. Intenté darle un poco de sabor y les pedí salsa barbacoa o inglesa. No tenían ninguna de las dos.

EVITAR. Consiguió intoxicación alimentaria inmediatamente después de absolutamente desagradable tenía las fichas y 3 piezas de pescado por 3. 99 grasa pura! Es uno de esos lugares donde no se puede confiar en que el pez es realmente incluso el pescado. No revisé las reseñas aquí antes de ir, todos te dicen que es malo, así que no lo hagas, ¡ahorra dinero y tiempo para vomitar!

Well we had to wait a little while got a takeaway cod and chips so went to park to eat on !y God was not even cod what a cheek. Well my man had only a little said the oil must have been dirty and that it was not cod just some cheap manky fish. My man felt sick so we drove home and we both got really sick vomitting quite a lot shut this place down please before someone is severely ill

Batter was stick and uncooked inside, the fish looked like it had been cooked hours before. The chips if you could call them that were bits of like crackling Worse fish and chips I’ve ever had Absolutely gross

The fish here is always excellent. They have a few varieties so worth specifying which you like. They are always cooked really well, as are the chips. Seems healthier than most chippies!

I'd love to have an excellent fish and chip shop locally, there's one in Greenwich which has exceptional reviews. I have now tried this 4 or 5 times and have not had a good value or quality take out meal there at all. Shame!

Para ser sinceros, la comida es bastante buena. Fish and Chips y el precio es respetable. Pero parece que siempre será una tarea difícil para el personal para servirle. La primera vez que fuimos, pedimos un montón de ketchup (incluso se ofreció a pagar), pero sólo nos dieron dos bolsitas cada una. Fuimos de nuevo y bromeó que deberíamos haber comprado nuestro propio ketchup en después de la última vez. Cuando pedimos que nos dijo que quería un montón de ketchup, y estamos dispuestos a pagar, pero aún así, sólo nos dieron dos bolsitas cada una. Cuando pedimos más, nos dieron uno a cada uno. Es la primera "fish and chips" que he estado en donde no tienen botellas de ketchup o bolsitas en 5 / 10 p. Nos hicieron sentir muy culpable por pedir un condimento. No volveremos.

Completamente espantoso, se negó a hacer algo que queríamos! Dieron la orden equivocada varias veces, aplastados los ojos cuando pedimos salsa y hablaba en un idioma diferente. Más nos cobraron y nos dio salsa curry de frío (que no queríamos). No volveremos!

Por desgracia, el pescado y las patatas fritas aquí son muy mediocres, lo cual es una pena porque es una buena ubicación. Cobran mucho más que muchos otros pescados locales y tiendas de calidad, pero en el chip ocasionales veces he comprado en la esperanza hay una mejora que permanecen sin sabor y mal cocinada. Una pena, pero la única vez que he ocupado en son un fin de semana tras los pubs cerca, que al ser una ubicación tan céntrica, lo dice todo. Verdaderamente horrible.

I agree with the reviews , it's one of those things that I feel you ca get nostalgic about price. I have found the food very good and the service courttiise. With price it's hard cockles are more expensive than lobster, years ago they were free on pub bars on Sunday. Difficult one but agree on price , but very nice people and its independent.

A great place located opposite Blackheath train station, nice to pop into for lunch and sit outside.There is a great selection of food to choose from, and I was pretty much spoiled for choice; fish, chicken, lamb, burgers.One of the guys behind the counter was a bit grumpy, but the person at the till was friendly enough.Good taste, and portion sizes were great too! Expect London prices though.

I am so surprised about the bad reviews! We had delicious fish and chips here. There were a couple of fish already on the counter cooked but we did ask for the cod fish to be fried fresh and they did so. The batter was crispy, fish tasted fresh and was a lovely shade of white inside. The chips were a generous portion. Not greasy and a nice color. Expensive but definitely worth the visit!

This place has bad quality food at nearly criminally high prices. Do yourself a favour and walk down Lee Road to The Vintage Fish!

Da wir öfters in London sind und meist ein Hotel in Blackheath haben, waren wir davon angetan, auch endlich in diesem Stadtteil Fish+Chips genießen zu können. Die "Bude" befindet sich direkt gegenüber der Bahnstation. Was lag also näher, als dort nach der Rückkehr aus der Stadt noch eine Portion zum Essen mit aufs nahe Zimmer im Clarendon Hotel zu nehmen? Die Idee erwies sich leider als nicht gut. Es war mit Abstand das schlechteste Fish-Chips, das wir bisher in London aßen. Natürlich muss man, was das "warme" Essen betrifft Abstriche machen, wenn man es noch 100 Meter zum Hotel transportiert. Aber das allein war es nicht. Die Chips (Pommes) schmeckten überhaupt nicht. Es war nicht definierbar, ob es selbstgemachte oder aus dem Großhändlersack stammende Chips waren. Der Fisch war ebenfalls, gelinde gesagt, geschmacklos. Wir hatten bisher im Bereich des Bahnhofs King`s Cross (Harry-Potter-Gleis) in versch. Pubs recht gute Fish+Chips zu einem normalen Preis erhalten. Auch in Pubs in Nähe des Hyde Parks im Stadtteil Bayswater waren die Fish+Chips immer wesentlich besser. Warum grade ein auf diese Speise "spezialisiertes" Geschäft damit nicht punkten kann, ist uns ein Rätsel.

I think this place is a decent Chippie. It's quite expensive (like everywhere in Blackheath), but the chips always taste good and they're pretty generous with the portions. I don't really know how much you can dress up fish and chips... All I know is that we've never been disappointed.

£1.90 for a portion of Chips. Under cooked, bland and the Vinegar is so watered down you cannot taste it on the food. Also had chicken which tasted as if it had been there for days. This is THE WORST chip shop I've ever eaten in.

Fantastic location and catchment area for a chip shop. We are all used to high prices for mediocrity in London but having used this shop now for over five years it really takes the biscuit. Best part of £20 for two cod and chips, please. I have to say I won't be using this place again as much as it is conveient I just can stomach the chips or the prices anymore.

I went to this fish and chip shop the other night and decided to have some spring rolls. £3 for two small rolls and although I waited ages for them to be cooked they were very nice indeed. The lady serving was lovely but the other staff seemed indifferent that night. I have had chips here before and have always found them to be of a good standard. I have not noticed the staff on the other two occasions but always the chips were hot and lovely.I think the fish and chip shop is very well situated opposite the station and near to the pub alongside the station and it looks very inviting and I saw the soap dispenser. I would recommend it as its clean and inviting but some staff need to smile and others are really lovely.

This is the fish&chip takeaway opposite Blackheath Station so is in a prime position for village & passing trade yet I have met no one who would return after their first visit.The fish,chips and other offerings are served from a long since cooked pile of fish being kept warm under lights,this means the fish tastes old and long since fried. This shop is one of the most expensive I have ever bought fish & chips in and I expected something really tasty but was deeply disappointed.Do avoid this place there is a fabulous fish & chip shop in in Lee High Road where they cook both fish & chips to order and it is fabulous Ocean Fresh?

We went to this fish bar to get some chips to eat on the Heath.The staff were in such a rush regardless of the fact the shop was mostly empty. The girl behind the counter quickly put the chips in the bag without asking me if I wanted to put some salt and vinegar on the chips myself which is unusual for a London chippy. When it came to eating the chips, they were nothing special. I've tasted far better for half the price.The battered sausage was 1/3 of the size of a 'normal' battered sausage and we felt a bit ripped off. The portions were so small, and I ordered a large size!They're clearly taking advantage of the fact that Blackheath is full of wealthy people.Won't be coming here again.
