The Vintage Fish in Lewisham

First time I've tried this place, ordered large cod and chips at £14.95. Not cheap , so I expected perfection. I was told it was a ten minute wait. Fair enough as a large piece of fish takes 10 to 12 mins to cook. One thing became obvious, the uber eat orders take priority over walk ins. After 17 to 18 minutes I enquired if my order had been overlooked as 7 or 8 people had been and gone after I had ordered. 2 or 3 minutes later my order was ready. When I got home I noticed 2 small pieces of fish, So I really don't understand the extended wait for large cod. I would say they had forgot my order till I reminded them. It was a mild evening yet the fish was cold by the time I had it on a plate less than 15 mins later . So it wasn't freshly cooked. I will say though the fish was A grade quality, just a shame about the long wait and temperature of the fish, hence only three stars instead of 4 or possibly 5. If I do visit again I will not be ordering large to see the difference in wait time and temperature.

Best place in the area for F&C. If you order online little wait even on Friday evening always good food

Consistently excellent fish & chips! The staff is friendly and polite, and the shop looks great. The homemade Tartare sauce is also an excellent recent addition.

Ordered via Deliveroo- food arrived cold- haddock, sweet pot fries, and fish cake. Fish cake was more bread than fish and was left uneaten. Haddock was very small. Quality of Vintage Fish seems to be going down. Deliveroo credit was only abt 25% of cost and does not make for the disappointing meal.

I have just had the best cod and chips I have ever had. No joke. Perfection.

Grabbed a take away cod & chips. I pass this place most evenings. Decided to give it a try today. My photo should tell you what I think. The food was still crispy even after my journey home. Fish was moist and flavoursome. Chips fluffy on the inside. Very nice.

I enjoy the friendly staff and the food is always so fresh and taste. Love the prawns and fish bites. Will be trying more of their menu. The chips are the best. Also best tasting sweet patatoe fries.

Fresh fish, cod bites are great value. Unfortunately no consistency in what you get, in my second order the regular cod was a third smaller than haddock, so order the haddock only. They do not offer large fish portions and, in another review, they say they can't guarantee the fish size; that is why I will not order again, my local chippy charges 3 pounds more for a large cod which is reasonable...

What a find. We decided to try this place after doing our weekly food shop down the road at the supermarket. So glad we did, the fish is cooked to perfection, and the chips are some of the best we have had in years. The mushy peas are freshly cooked and so good. It might be a little more on the pricey side, compared to your usual establishment, but you get what you pay for. Simply outstanding and is now our goto Fish & Chip place. Can’t wait until next Friday..

This used to be my goto for Fish & Chips but tonight ordered Haddock & Sweet Chips, the Haddock was a slither 3 bites worth and no where near as big as it used to be, the fish was tasty but not good value, the sweet potato chips were tastless and just appeared to be burnt chips sadly. I will try again but it might be awhile.

Gone downhill - been a repeat customer over last year. Recently got food poisoning from the rockfish. Also they recently changed the rockfish supply as used to be different - not sure if that is reason.

Very tasty fish and chips. We took two small cod and they was perfect size! Large chips are super large! The fish was nice and juicy, crispy and no oily. Mashy pies, curry sauce and sausage 10/10. Easy way to order thru website and collect after. Definitely will come back!

The Vintage Fish is everything you’d need in a lockdown situation and I’m immensely glad to have discovered them on Deliveroo. I had the haddock and it was brilliantly done. Crispy batter and a fresh flaky bite. Paired with a crisp dry white and you’d be dreaming of sunny days in Brighton. Highly recommend.

I was really looking forward to my food as it’s usually fresh and delicious , however tonight what a waste of money ,the rock was dry and tasted like it was cooked twice , and a tiny portion which to be honest it went In the bin , hubby said saveloy was ok but it’s such a shame as I won’t be ordering from vintage fish anymore 😩😩

Cod, chip, save loyalty and gherkin. The cod was good, batter was thin and crispy. The chips on the other hand were cooked but not crisp, not my oreference. The saveloy somehow tasted bland, without the normal saveloy taste, ir smell, come to think of it. The gherkin? Well, you can't go wrong with a gherkin. All items were cooked fresh to order. Service was good and friendly. Only giving it 3 stars as the chips should have been crisp and the meal was expensive.

First time in the shop: my husband didn't get his chicken dinner - he never eats fish and chips; and they didn't give us the drinks we paid for. Hope you get what you order!

Vintage Fish Blackheath never fails to impress. Delicious fresh food, great portions, super friendly staff in a Spick and span shop- what more could you ask for. Afraid no photos as too keen to tuck in to tasty chips and delicious cod. Perfect mid week or Friday night treat.

Leaving a F&C as if you shopped at a boutique... Their branding is such fashionable and packaging is so cool. I thought my hubby came back with a new handbag for me. We ordered extra large cod and plaice: each fish is placed in a beautiful box with a pod of tartar sauce and a slice of lemon, not like a shower of salt and malt vinegar (I hate that smell). Look at the photos, aren't they beautiful? Crisp, fluff, good control of temperature. Nice fish. I would have given 5 stars if chips are double or triple cooked but unfortunately their chips are ordinary, got soggy by the time we sat at the table whilst fish was gorgeous. Hope their chips are improved by the time we visit again. An impressively new style of business.

Best Fish n Chip shop on London.

Used to be very good (fri 27 Aug) haddock large chips scampi mushy peas and a wally.. 5pm.. this way they know I was at the shop... Just left got home the fish wasn't great rather than pure white it was grey with a fishy smell. Salad with the scampi was brown and rotting.. No mushy peas. Missing from order. The wally was delicious.. But £20 for wally and chips... Must try harder.. A not too happy customer...

Definitely worth trying. I just ordered from The Vintage Fish on Deliveroo to Catford and was very happy with the quality of the food received. Special recognition to the chipshop curry sauce which is one of the best I've had. Keep up the good work guys.

One of the best cod's in the area, unfortunately Friday night is so busy that even after we were told the deliveroo driver was in the restaurant it still took an additional hour from the original estimate to deliver. Normal accompaniment of salad / lemon missing and the mushy peas - no idea if these were curry sauce or left over pea juice !! Great place normally but they cannot cope with the Friday rush so try another day!

Best fish & chips in the area but you need a Covid policy in place - 10 people waiting in small shop tonight is far too many - some without masks! Couriers unmasked! Staff unmasked! Notices should be visible of a strict 2 (?) people waiting in shop at any time. Strict mask policy for ALL should be in place.

We as a family have tried various Fish and Chip shops in the area and without doubt I can honestly say this one beats the rest. The quality of the fish and potato used is evident in the superior taste. Usually we go for Haddock, the batter is so crispy and light. The chips are crispy and fluffy inside, perfect. The most important thing is they are consistent. I’ve waited after trying them out more than a handful of times to give them a review. Our go to Fish and Chips from now.

Do not order a delivery. They took three hours to deliver. Refused to cancel and refund. Crooks.

Two hour waiting for delivery and it’s still not here. They accept orders they cannot possibly fulfil. A terrible way to treat customers.

I was warmly greeted as soon as I entered, it felt like it wasn’t my first time. I wasn’t sure what I wanted but I wasn’t rushed at all. Once I decided, the service was quick and everyone was just so friendly. Food was also amazing!!!

Vintage fish and chips is a favourite for our kids. Today, they very kindly offered our sports club a free lunch. After a three hour training session, the kids devoured a fantastic lunch on the house. Very friendly staff - the guys go above and beyond for customer satisfaction. I’ve ordered from here several times before and, as other reviewers have noted, it’s one of the best chippies in south London. Ordered the fish supper for two deal this evening though and was very disappointed. The chips and mushy peas were excellent as always but the fish they used was watery, skin-on and not that fresh. It looked like a good deal on the menu but if they always use a low quality of fish for the deal then it’s really not good value at all.

It's simply the best fish and chips in the area. Never got an order wrong, the fish is not over battered, it's full of flavour, the chips are great, mushy peas fresh, gravy without lumps. Definitely recommended!
