Blackberries Patisserie in Sunderland

We ordered a dessert table for our wedding and were so thankful to a friend that told us of them as their cakes are second to none. The desserts were delicious and the presentation outstanding. Our only regret was we didn't order more! Thank you so much for all your help and making our day special!

I used to really enjoy coming to Blackberries for a treat every couple of weeks. I messaged the shop on Facebook asking if they could make up some custom cheesecake pots as they are my favourite item they do, they said sure and that we could sort it out when I came by on the afternoon to buy the cheesecake pots they had that day. The owner then spoke quite rudely to me when I asked for only 4 pots, please note they didn’t specify in their messages or anywhere on their socials that there was an order limit. There was another customer in at the time and I was absolutely humiliated. I compromised and asked them to just put aside a few pots they had already planned on making, and came in today to pick them up. When I asked the lovely girl behind the counter what cheesecakes they were doing this week, she had to ask the owner, who said quite brashly again “I have no idea”. It was clear she was extremely annoyed, although I can’t fathom why? I have been a loyal customer and have made a point to visit whenever I can since they moved into Houghton Business Park, but the attitude of the owner is quite clear that if you can’t afford to buy large amounts then she wants nothing to do with you. Only giving 2 stars as the desserts are most of the time very nice, but the customer service you get leaves a bitter taste. I’ll just start making my own cheesecakes from now on.

My go-to place for delicious pastries. There's something for everyone; cakes, brownies, blondies, tarts - all beautiful to look at and even better to taste. The staff are all lovely and go above and beyond. I want to say a big thank you for specially making more Malteser brownies - they were for my dad's birthday and he was over the moon as they're his favourite :)

This has to be one of the best cake shops in the North-east. The food is amazing and the staff are lovely.

Just to say that use to these guys shop were in Houghton centre next to Houghton cuts and they were doing much better when they were here. It’s been while they moved to business park and after a while we bought some cakes and absolutely disappointed! They made they cakes look better and just very much sweet, where is before cakes were not that sweet and taste much organic than just sugar!

Excellent products for the quality the prices are affordable and both staff and owner are really nice friendly people If you want a cake for a cuppa or a full on function look no further

Lots of treats to satisfy the sweetest of tooths, great coffee and lovely staff, unfortunately I haven't been able to visit for a while so will have to make a point of heading down. Just revisited, they now do sandwiches, massive pastries, iced coffee etc, staff are lovely, very helpfull

Ordered a birthday cake for my mother at short notice (2 days) and they fitted my order in no problem. Ordered a simple fresh cream sponge cake with a strawberry compote and fresh strawberries...it was superb, What a gem this little patisserie this is, highly recommended and prices are good too.

I came across this little gem accidentally and what honestly whatcha find. The cakes from blackberries are lush. I love snickers brownies and chocolate orange brownies. I also love their pulled pork baguette. I can keep listings the food to the yummy list. They follow CORONA virus protocols strictly and only two people are allowed in the shop at a time with masks on. Well done to implement it. Staft is super friendly and allow dogs in the shop, which gets my thumbs up. There is free parking infornt of the shop which is very convenient. Also there is a small park in front of the shops which is very handy if you cant wait to take your purchase home you cant sit and enjoy it immediately.😁

Have been here plenty of times and it's lovely. However we've just got out of hospital today with a newborn after being in a few days and saw they'd run out of valentines boxes. I rang up to ask if they could make a cheeky exception for me given the circumstances... They just hung up the phone without saying anything!

Was recommended by a colleague and I was not disappointed, had a Manchester tart and it was delightful, the second time I had a almond and cherry blondie and it was good too. Will come again.

Yesterday I collected some amazing cup cakes from Sam, I have literally never tasted anything like them, but not only the taste, the design of the cakes were outstanding...they were for my Mams 90th birthday and I wanted to given each grandchild a cake and a take away cuppa when they did a socially distant visit. Sam went the extra mile by really personalising the cakes. Thank you Sam. I would highly recommend Blackberries Patisseries. Can’t waitcto try the cheesecakes!

Having being going to try these cakesvfor sometime. We decided to purchase a selection (7) cakes to celebrate (hopefully not commiserate) GCSE results. Thankfully celebrate, cakes gorgeous some a little rich but all empty plates. We all shared having tastes of most of the cakes. Mine was Banoffee. Next time I'll not be sharing. Would definitely purchase again. We'll be back

This is by far the best patisserie I have ever visited, and am certain they'd rival the professional patisserie chefs in the most famous hotels. The products are beautiful to look at, taste delicious and are inexpensive. The staff are friendly and very helpful helping you decide which of the fabulous creations to try next! I'd recommend trying Blackberries before the chef realises her potential and moves to somewhere more lucrative!!!

This is the most luxurious place to come to our local town. it's absolutely a hidden gem. Every time I walk in I am overwhelmed by my choice and often spend at least 5 mins looking at the treats on offer. I was so amazing by the quality and taste of the treats, that I used Blackberries to provide the cakes for my sweet table at my wedding. I would recommend this wonderful place to anyone wanting to indulge.

I live within walking distance and frequent Blackberries every other month or so for there simply gorgeous selection of cheesecakes, brownies & scones (I would love to visit more often but try to keep it as a treat!. When I visit I tend to pick a few different cakes to try with friends. I'm steadily trying to work my way through everything but since the seleciton is ever evolving this is actually a bit of a challenge! If I'm not getting a few cakes to try then I'll sometimes pop in for the cherry & almond scones as they are the best I've ever tasted and a real treat to have with a coffee on a weekend. It's also great that the shop is open until 8pm on a Thursday so I can pop in and get a few treats and take them to work the following day for a well earned end of the week treat. The owner is clearly very talented and must work extremely hard to produce so many different options every day. I follow the Facebook page and she'll often request suggestions for new things to add which really gets the customers involved and is such a good idea. I really wish the owner all the best and I hope Blackberries will be around for years to come.

A fab range of tasty treats for a good price. We bought two big brownies, a cheesecake pot, and 6 macaroons for £10. Lovely homemade cakes, would recommend. A big variety, and quite a different selection each time.

Too many lovely cakes to choose from. Cake selection changes daily. There are vegan and gluten free options too. Well worth a detour!

Working my way through the cakes, but they change daily, so hard to keep up. Everything is so nice, never had a bad orders. I go heard before visiting family, or business meetings and everyone is wowed by what ever I bring with me. Even the dog loves their peanut butter treats!

Overheard someone talking about this shop over lunch so I visited it the same day as my wife has a sweet tooth. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT 5 Star cakes that are a work of art made by a truly dedicated proprietor, A pleasure to visit and I will be a regular customer of that I am sure.

Popped in for morning coffee and scone . They don't usually open until 11.00 with the exception of Wed when they open at 9.00. They only have 2 small tables but that was fine for us. Cheese scones were quite nice -not the best. The cakes looked amazing so took some home. Chose egg custard, carrot cake and raspberry delice. They were fantastic -the best cakes I have ever tasted. The owner Sam bakes all cakes on site -she is one talented lady. She deserves the business. Will be back very soon.

Called in the shop today after getting my hair done, I was impressed. Bought 3 slices of Nutella cheese cake for £9.30 brought them home and iv got to be dead honest here, they did not taste one bit like Nutella, was more like cheap chocolate. My son is a Nutella NUT, and he didn't touch it. So half of mine went in the bin and the other 2 have gone in the bin aswell.

Return to Houghton to visit my mother every few months, and this is always my first port of call. Terrific choice of cakes and tarts, expertly made and friendly staff. Highly recommended

We visit at least once a week for dessert. We have had a range of different desserts and had no complaints at all. Every dessert is fresh and home made and can see what is being made too. Definitely worth the money and very reasonably priced. We will continue to return here

Just wow, Lemon Meringue Pie, Just WOW

Wow, this place is awesome. I come here to get over the shock of my dentist haha and after leaving blackberries I always have a smile not just because I have a belly or box of delicious goods but because the girls are lovely chatty and nothing is to much. The cakes always light, fluffy, full flavour and have that home baked quality that you can’t get from those big chains. What puts this patisserie above the rest is that they have gluten-free and vegan options that are just as delicious as the “normal cakes” . If you live here your lucky to have them on your door step and if your passing by call in it’s worth it believe me!

I've just picked up 3 desserts and having eaten my salted caramel tart I have just rang the lady to tell her it's probably the best dessert I've ever tasted and I've eaten in 3 star Michelin restaurants Absolutely blown away by the flavour and attention to detail and the work involved in making these My son said exactly the same👍 The diet is on hold

I visit BP at least once every week to buy top quality cakes, scones etc from Sam. I must say the quality is absolutely top class and you get what you pay for. If you go to BP expecting Gregg’s prices you will be disappointed so don’t waste your time. The time that is put in on producing these is incredible and the selection is varied. The Manchester tarts are particularly indulgent. Sam also caters for Vegans and this place is a little gem tucked away in Houghton. Thanks again for your hard work folks.

The ‘average’ review has made me write this as I do not agree in the slightest!! If I could rate higher than a five I would! Me and my hubby have been coming to blackberries patisserie for everything from Manchester tarts, cheesecakes, strawberry tarts, sweet and savoury scones and cakes!! Everything is delicious I have trouble deciding what to get and always takes me ages to decide! There is so much yummy delights I never know what go try!!! We visit on average I’d say once a fortnight and Sam the owner always stops to chat and is so friendly she is a diamond and I am pleased we found this amazing place!!! The only thing is I don’t want to tell too many people as there may not be enough for us

This place is amazing. Big choice of cakes all of the highest quality. Would highly recommend if you want to order a birthday cake but also nice to order a large dessert for a special dinner or party.

Great cakes and drinks. Lovely staff. The best is the salted caramel tart. Yes it is small with limited seating but the products are French patisserie standard. Top class.

Fantastic little patisserie in Houghton , only found this place as someone had reviewed it on Facebook, the cakes are delicious they do Manchester tart which is one of my favourites and quite hard to find these days the other cakes are lovely a lot of choice so me and my partner end up buying 2 each in stead of 1 each which is a little naughty but so worth it , staff are patient and friendly while your choosing the only negative thing I can say is the shop is quite small so if there is a few people in your a little pushed for space.

We had a fresh fruit pavlova and blackberry cheesecake. Huge cakes and reasonable price. Will be returning.

The desserts here are amazing. Nothing like supermarket dried up things and mass produced bakery cakes. These are freshly made every day with amazing flavours. Sam has a large variety of cakes, cheesecakes, scones so there will always be something for everyone including vegans.

Noticed the shop was new and popped in, all the cakes and biscuits looked fresh and homemade. The lady in the shop was very friendly and helpful. Everything was reasonably priced and the cakes were delicious. Will definitely be going back.

Visited here for coffee with friends. Had noticed it from walking past and am always keen to support local business. Arrived for opening time. The person who served us was anything but welcoming at first. Two tables and some chairs. It was pointed out to us it was not a restaurant so we had paper cups and plates and I was told that because of this I could not have tap water to go with my coffee but could buy a bottle of water. At this point my friends and I were ready to walk out. They had travelled to come here so we persevered. Told very brusquely there were no scones! Opted for coconut and lime cake ( the frosting was dry) and chocolate orange cake which was delicious. The coffee was lovely but friends said tea was strong as it was in a cup, not a pot and couldn’t be watered down. The main business seemed to be people coming and buying cakes to take away. Before we left, the owner came and said ‘thank you ‘to us after her very busy hour. Her frostiness seemed to have melted somewhat. My friends said they would not return. I ‘m local and love to see local businesses prosper. Hope this one does thrive and that the owner can take on board what I’ve said as constructive criticism.
