Woah what an experience staff great atmosphere

The Black Dove in Brighton is such a cool spot if you’re into quirky, cozy pubs with character. It’s got this relaxed, bohemian vibe—think vintage decor, dim lighting, and mismatched furniture that makes it feel super homey. Perfect for a laid-back evening. The drinks are awesome, especially the cocktails. They’re creative but not too fancy, and they’ve got a solid selection of craft beers too. The staff are really friendly and know their stuff, so if you can’t decide, just ask for a recommendation. The music is great, and there’s even a little basement where they put on events if you want a boogie. My favourite drinks are: Crimson, Kemptown, and Corpse Reviver II.

We had a very enjoyable time both evenings we visited. There was a DJ's playing great music both nights. It was not too loud that you could still talk. Great cocktails.

Quirky pub in Kemp Town area of Brighton. Really good friendly service and the drinks were lovely too, great G&T. Cheaper than drinking in the main part of Brighton too. Win win!

A good night out to be had at the Black Dove

well, after 10 Brighton (Hove actually) visits we went to Kemptown. 1st place was here. O M G … sat vibe in full flow with DJ but great crowd and amazing drinks selection. Yes will return but good place to start and head back to centre if suits! (cocktails shaken like a polaroid picture …😉🙏🏻👍)

We've celebrated my 50th birthday in this pub last weekend. The manager just ruined it. He kicked out one of my friend without any reason. He didn't do anything wrong. The manager had very aggressive attitude when we wanted to talk with him to solved the problem - because we didn’t know what’s wrong… He is unprofessional and discriminative - which is unacceptable. Such a shame to give a job to him in this nice pub. 😞

I had the worst experience here in my life. We flew to my Best Friend's 50th Birthday Party from 3 countries to celebrate her big day here. The manager and the staff ruined the whole night with their horrible attitude. We rented the event room, but left after a few hours...I am from New York, and I was shocked by this experience. The manager had such rude behavior that I was speechless. There was no air in the basement either, no AC, and the place was filthy. The sound system stopped working as well, and the manager could not fix it. My friend managed to fix it in the end, he simply tried harder...I highly recommend hiring a sound technician if they rent out an event space for special occasions...and hire a manager who cares about making people happy instead of projecting his issues on others!!! Fortunately we went to another amazing bar afterwards, that made up for this horrible experience. I am happy that we did not let anybody ruin our mood. My friend had a wonderful evening at the end because of our positive attitude, and because Love is stronger than Hate.

We had the most terrible experience here, they ruined our friend’s birthday party. The staff was rude af, they shouted at us and took away my drink for what I actually paid for. I have never met a person as unqualified as this manager. They were racist btw. I don’t recommend this place, it’s a mess. The restroom was disgusting, there’s no hygiene there, it was dirty and smelly. There’s dust everywhere and they don’t ventilate as much as they should. Avoid this place if you want to spend a nice evening with your friends.

The staff is very unprofessional there. Absolutely not friendly. Especially the manager. He was so rude! There was no air and the place smells like molt.

One of the best cocktail, and beer bars in brighton exceptional attention to detail and selection. Have had great largers, ales and sours, as well as old fashions and negroni. The upstairs tends to be very busy, but the outside and downstairs usually offer a nice spot to meet up with friends

Best cocktails and amazing vibe!

An quirky bar suitable for an alternative crowd, definitely worth a visit. Visit here for some unique cocktails, a relaxed youthful atmosphere, gothic/new age vibes and some imaginative decor. The bar men were professional, friendly and fast. They were extremely conscious of guest experiences even while having plenty of fun themselves. It is Brighton so there will always be some trouble which when it happened on the night, outside the pub, they dealt with swiftly and professionally. I was impressed at their abilities with getting the night back on track. They were also very clearly good at judging which customers wanted to chat and entering into a dialogue. They seem genuinely to care that people have a nice night. Our cocktails were brilliant and they were bespoke. My drink was perfectly sweetened and my partner got his old fashioned the way he wanted it to. The only negatives I have for the bar is that I think it could do with a clean. I love alternative pubs but I still think it is nice to feel you are in a clean space. I also didn't really like the music too much.

Really a great place to be. Staff is really very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed some delicious cocktails. Try the Crimson -you will never regret it. Choice of beer ist great too, but there is no need to try the German ones. 😉

Such a whacky but amazing bar, the cocktails are creative and delicious, and the wall of spirits to choose from is second to none! Perfectly paired with a great atmosphere and good tunes always. Not to mention, they have Irn-Bru on tap 😍

Been here several times. Always a good selection of beer available and place has a lovely atmosphere. It comes with an outside space but is in the shadow in the afternoon, good when avoiding the sun on a blazing hot day.

Brilliant little pub, just outside central Brighton, brilliant atmosphere, great choice of beers and spirits.

Came here a few months ago. Great drinks and theme. Brought friends back at 2pm in January. Stood outside waiting for 20 mins to open when google said 2pm. Once doors opened at 2.20, was told drinks would be ready at 3pm. A real shame. Enjoyed before but don’t advertise false opening hours.

Quirky pub , interesting decor and a nice vibe . Limited drinks choice . No Southern comfort my wife's favourite or Baileys her second option . The beer selection was OK none of the familier brands but all ok👍

We went for a few drinks. Service was exceptional!! They had so many drinks that you just don't find very easily in other bars. They had one of my favourite gins (Portobello Road) served with Fever Tree tonic 😋 👌🏽 plus they even had Sazerak Rye Whiskey and the other spirit you need to make a lovely Sazerak!! I couldn't give it any stars for food as we didn't have any. But I will definitely try it next time, I am down in Brighton again!

I absolutely loved it here. It is SO quirky and has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Popped in for a prosecco twice on my recent trip to Brighton and can't wait to visit again...superb!!!

Always worth a visit when in Brighton.

A classic haunt in a town where there are many venues vying for that title, The Black Dove is a great watering hole whatever your choice of tipple may be. The kooky gothic decor makes exploring the bar on your way to the loo an exciting adventure every time. May be a little out the way for some located in Kemptown, but well worth the walk.

We visited Black Dove last weekend for the Pride Weekend. We had 2 great nights there. We went on Saturday and Sunday nights. The atmosphere was amazing, the service was very quick and the staff were very friendly. The prices of the drinks were good. Most of all thanks to Xav behind the bar on both nights, you were wonderful, friendly and had a fantastic smile. You helped make our stay in Brighton one to remember.

Although I liked the bar, as a disabled pensioner, I found the lack of accessible toilets a huge disappointment. I fully understand that the age and layout of the property mean that this is an unachievable option, but it does mean that I can only give 3*. Definitely worth a visit if you are able to do stairs.

Love this place especially for their offer of spirits, far above the average. Staff is always kind and welcoming, location is great and it is not difficult to find parking during the night. I've never tried their food.

One of the best pubs I've ever had a chance to grace a stool at. Easy to get bogged down for hours, music is enjoyable, staff if funny and friendly and have beautiful drink recommendations. Good beers and wonderful whiskies, definitely worth a pit stop.

Superb little pub in the Kemptown area of Brighton (there's several little gems of establishments to eat and drink at in the area). Great staff, lovely beer and cocktails and awesome decor - make sure you check out the 'cotch' in the basement.

I have been there several times over the last 3 months and enjoyed their stout. I know very well what it tastes like and complained that it tasted of chemicals and did not taste right. The woman behind the bar told me she was happy to serve me something else and after tasting it, said it tasted OK to her. Not only was she calling me a liar in front of a busy bar but offering a stout drinker something else is like offering a vegan a slice of meat... the guy who previously served me was very nice, but the woman has lost me as a customer with her rude, dismissive attitude and lack of an offer of refund. I left the bar and the drink that I bought. AVOID AVOID AVOID
