Black Bull Inn in Northumberland

Just called in for a drink during a golf holiday, great little bar friendly landlord, good service and excellent beer.

Our recent stay at The Black Bull Inn was made truly memorable by the exceptional service and warm atmosphere. From the moment we arrived, the man at the front desk/behind the bar made us feel incredibly welcome. His friendly and engaging personality made the check-in process a breeze, and he even personally showed us to our room. While the room was on the smaller side, it was perfectly adequate for our needs. The bar man sincerely apologized for the size, explaining that the other rooms were already occupied and he hadnt realised how big our dogs were. The room was indeed cosy, and the bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable – we had a great night's sleep! We also appreciated the tea-making facilities and TV in the room. The bathroom was a bit of a squeeze, with limited space around the toilet, but this didn't bother us. The hotel's kitchen was under refurbishment during our stay, but the bar man went above and beyond to ensure we had options for meals. We were welcome to bring in food and eat in our room or at the bar, which was a thoughtful touch. Breakfast the next morning at the adjoining "Bait Box" was a highlight of our stay. The panini with cranberry and brie, and the bacon, was absolutely delicious and a great way to start the day. Overall, any minor shortcomings of the room were far outweighed by the exceptional service and friendly atmosphere. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others, especially those looking for a cosy and welcoming place to stay.

Superb fish & chips, two good ales, Aspall cider, and a very friendly welcome to us awkward southerners. Highly recommended.

Great pub. We stayed in one of their rooms upstairs. Bed and pillows were super comfy.

We enjoyed a Fish and Chip dinner tonight, it was amazing!

Recently taken over after 25yrs, really disappointing, mediocre food and service. This place used to be rammed for lunch yet today was only missing the tumbleweed, waitress miserable, food v average, lukewarm and worst gravy ever, all veg on the plate, never asked once was the food ok, never came and asked us if we wanted more drinks or dessert. I’ve worked in catering and know how hard a good lunch service can be but with only two in the whole place they couldn’t have cared less….bring back hot plates, steaming bowls of veg and good beef gravy 😢

Be very, very careful of ‘Niel’ your new owner. He won’t think twice about barring you over the slightest little thing and… and he thinks he’s a tough guy? However…. He actually penalty kicked a locals little dog in his pub carpark and hid the cctv from police cos he’d got bashed, again, after letting a whole bar attack the poor guy? There’s a reason, or probably several reasons why he’s moving out of town!

Decent pub as in pub . Nice mix of people and drinks . Very good food .

The best beef I've tasted on a Sunday lunch. It fell apart and was so tender. Excellent choice of veg and brilliant service. Thank you .

Visited here with the lads on Friday. Beer was superb, locals were friendly and the manager knows how to run a bar. This is quickly becoming a firm favourite and we intend to visit more often.

Great friendly pub. Well stocked bar. Clean in all areas. Landlord looks after his customers well ... 100% visitor friendly.

What a great atmosphere in here. Not sure if it was the manager who was wearing the Hawaiian shirt but very friendly and remembered my order even though I'd never been in there before. Atlantic Pale Ale was first class and I'll definitely be back.

Great local pub, always a friendly welcome, Good atmosphere and huge choice of beer and other drinks as well as snacks/sweets. Excellent jukebox, several TVs showing Sky and BT sports channels, has a pool table as well. Dogs welcome.

I'd not been to this pub since covid but it's still one of the best pubs around good atmosphere and sensible prices it's worth a visit

Awesome meal and friendly staff, Ribeye steak cooked perfect and chips were delicious too. But anyone going must try the cheesecake as unbelievable. Great and prompt service and prices not to bad either. 5 stars...

Great local pub serving very good food. Small restaurant so book or get in early although they also serve food in the bar. Portions are generous and very reasonably priced (chicken burger and fish and chips were both just under £10). Lovely jubbley.

Good choice of ale. Steak and ale pie was excellent. Friendly staff. Perfect.

I'm from Bolton and work in Prudhoe a lot. Stay at the bull all the time. Paul and Julie have got to be the best land/lady Lords of any pub I know. Been coming for 10 years now and hope for another 10. Keep it up guys...

Genuine landlord,spotlessly clean and they do bed and breakfast a really home from home.

Excellent service,fab,relaxed atmosphere,varied selection of beverages,very tasty meals by top staff. If you want good value for money,this is the place. Drinks and food exceptionally good value. Highly recommended.
