Food and service were excellent, only downside to our visit was that a largish family group were put on to a table close to us, the children with the group were well behaved and respectful of others, the same could not be said of 3 of the adults who insisted on conversations as if they were at opposite ends of the pub instead of opposite sides of the table. We would have remained for dessert but couldn't put up with the shouts any longer. However we will be returning again, because obviously the noise was really not down to the pubs fault, just customers who have no regard for others.

Staying near Northallerton and wanted to find a dog friendly pub for Sunday lunch. We weren't disappointed at The Black Bull great food, pipping hot and delicious and the staff were excellent too, even the dogs got treats thank you. Would highly recommend a visit

Top food at a great price, lovely guest ale (and Theakstons, but I'm not a fan!), excellent service and friendly locals. I understand it closed for a while, so older reviews and pictures may not do it justice. Highly recommended.

Fabulous meal, piping hot served group of ten promptly in under half an hour delicious food all correct with great value Sunday lunch. Nothing bad to say at all, perfect for a Sunday lunch with great sized portions.

Just popped in for a quick pint while driving home... Place was packed with diners, obviously the food is good.. I tried the Theakston ale which was perfect.

Only open in the evening, great atmosphere, open fires, snug and cozy, food fantastic, good cider good beer, lovely coffee. Lovely staff, great service.

We went for food and a few drinks on a Saturday evening and had a lovely experience. Staff were very friendly and the food was great. Definitely worth a visit!

We go here regular when we're up North the food and the service are great. Good selection of beer and wine. The black pudding and bacon, the lamb and the palmo are my favourite buy everything is good on the menu.

Second time visited both times Sunday dinners fantastic food recomend the pork and all the desserts.

Loved my dinner tonight. A good choice on the menu for everyones taste. Service was really good and a very friendly staff. 2nd visit for us and very happy to return again Things cut short by a 2nd power cut in the area but nevertheless still enjoyed ourselves. Thank you.

Lovely place I'm looking forward to dining there

I had a lovely meal here with family. The menu was varied, with some pub classics and a few other options, and the food was delicious. The space inside was smart, modern, and clean, and the staff were very welcoming. I don't live close by, but I hope to be able to visit again some time!

Local pub we've not ventured to until today… huge mistake it was absolutely incredible food and drinks why have we not been before?!… we will 100% be back, great atmosphere, service and quality!

Fabulous 3 course meal. King prawns in chilli and garlic , best Parmo ever and clementine sponge and custard so light and utterly delicious . Also eaten pork medallions in mustard sauce in the past which was equally wonderful . Service friendly and efficient.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch after having a couple of nice midweek meals. However today was a whole new experience. Starter's of Thai prawns and a black pudding were very nice. Main course of beef and chicken were ordered. We were asked if we would like extra gravey. What we were not expecting was a dead fly floating in the extra gravey. When we brought it to the waitresses attention it was a mere " oh sorry about that". And that was the end of it! Paid the bill and felt so strongly that I called just to reiterate that it was unacceptable to find a dead fly in the grave and I would have expected a more caring reaction. I was asked if the grave was removed and replaced . No it wasn't because it didn't seem a major issue to anyone. I was told they could ask the chef for a voucher. I dont want a freebie, I want good food and good customer service. Sadly a dead fly in your food isn't an issue to you but it was a major one for us, therefore we will deffinatly not return.

Called in today when passing, had no booking. Took is in at short notice and we wernt disappointed.Food was piping hot and cooked to perfection. Staff very attentive and pleasant. Will definitely visit again .

What a great pub - beer served perfectly and superb food

We arrived at 1.45 , fifteen mins before finishing serving food. We came as three adults and two children. I can't tell you what fabulous staff, inviting and warm they were. The food was exceptional. The lasagna has to be the one of the best I've had. Rest of the gang equally loved their food too. The youngest girl of ten wanted a plain burger which wasn't on the children's menu but the staff catered for her and charged is regular child's price for it. It's always a gamble trying somewhere new for the first time but this place, especially for food is a must. Bravo to all!!!

Had a lovely meal at The Black Bull while staying at Roseacre Glamping Pods - we would definitely recommend it as a great place to eat. We had the pork medallions and burger, both cooked to perfection. Lovely atmosphere and service.

Came this evening to celebrate a birthday ,the food was absolutely fantastic ,the staff were very polite and accommodating . One member of our party is gluten free ,he was able to have a 3 course meal here and said it was beautiful. We will definitely return . Thankyou!

Visited the Black Bull on Thursday night with 3 friend..Great Central meeting spot. Had an absolutely fabulous time. Lively relaxed atmosphere. Very pleasant tasteful decor with proper pub feel. Attentive service throughout without being overbearing. Our meals..2 had the sizzlers..king prawn and chicken..I had chicken with Stilton sauce and one friend had the salmon we delicious. Beautifully cooked and presented. Loads of healthy veg...and great chips! Had to share a dessert as we were full...Chocolate Bailey's cheesecake. Thanks for a lovely evening. Its definitely goi g to be our regular meeting place.

Once again another evening of fabulous food at the Black Bull, great Smeaton. We're slowly working our way through the menu, at whats rapidly become our favourite place to eat.

Couldn't fault the place. Excellent service from the second we stepped into the premises. Shown straight to our table drink and food orders taken, drinks served within 5 minutes and three main meals within 20 minutes. Great food, great service and very pleasant experience comes highly recommended 😀 👍

Great village / country pub, with a good choice of ales and lagers, and very nice Thai food (I have only had the excellent takeaway), looking forward to dinning there. All staff very cheerful and welcoming.

Was passing through and called in...nice food from Thai menu....asked for bowl of chips between 4....definitely not 'real' chips as a previous reviewer declared...so bit disappointed with that.
