Black Bull in Kirklees

Great little pub, staff always lovely. Food is great value, always have burger of the month on a Wednesday with their offer

We have been to the Black Bull today for Sunday lunch. We would definitely not recommend this place for Sunday dinner. The service was very slow, waiting for 45 mins, and the meal wasn’t in any way good. The beef was virtually inedible. The only thing that was good was that the plates were hot otherwise extremely poor.

Service good, meal tasty, warm rooms

Food was hot, cooked perfectly and presented well for pub grub. Clean tidy and a good classic pub, was warmly welcomed by toni and her serve was 5*.

Went here today with 3 people. Absolutely rubbish. There was a skeleton staff on and the atmosphere was miserable. First time there and the last. One of the drinks we ordered was a Pinot Grigio the rose one and it must have been the cheapest wine they could find it taste like vinegar, disgusting. We waited over 50 minutes to get three meals. One was fish and chips and once the burnt batter was removed there was a piece of fish that was 3 inches long the rest was burnt batter. My chicken was dry and over cooked. No wonder they take your money before you get your food. Tables and crockery dirty and sticky. An absolute disgrace. Avoid this place like the plague. Off all the food venues in Lindley this was by far the worst.

Had some very pleasant food served by very friendly staff, in a pub with a very lively atmosphere

Went for Christmas day dinner, fantastic meal, quality ingredients cooked to perfection,great service , fabulous day. would highly recommend home from home

We visited the bull yesterday after a long walk . Great atmosphere and very cosy pub . Loved seeing lots of fur baby’s inside enjoying the warmth . Will defo visit again .

£3.15 for half of coke £3.45 a pint of coke or there abouts, absolutely random pricing, went to a wake after a funeral put in back room, which was fine, Sky Sports loop on telly maybe not so 🤔

Not chiefs best day. The food was as cold as the pub. Sorry can't find any positives to say about the visit

Great pub... Especially for any sky events. Friendly staff. Great outdoor seating area and parking at the back.

Long wait. Food arrived cold and had to be replaced, followed by another wait. Staff were apologetic but it did not help our situation.

Went to this pub today for birthday lunch. BIG MISTAKE THE ROAST BEEF WAS SO TOUGH YOU WOULDNT GET A KANGO HAMMER THROUGH IT AND THE VEGETABLES WERE NOT EVEN COOKED. ANOTHER PUB RIP OFF MEAL. TOTALLY DISCUSTED ABOUT BEING RIPPED OFF.NEVER AGAIN.

Menu basic but acceptable, Service excellent-the place was heaving! Atmosphere spoilt by way too loud music.

Called on a Tuesday for a family evening meal & was greeted by the lovely staff , Ash, Amber & Toni who made us very welcome , we were sat in the converted barn area , a lovely cosy pub with lots tv's to catch up on sport of the day , got a large carpark & beer garden on a decking area at the rear of the pub , good selection of beers & wines meals all lovely & at very reasonable prices & also have meal deals during the week , will defo call again & try different dishes off the menu , nice friendly pub

Lovely pub this. Have so many memories from coming here for Sunday dinners and watching the footie, and catching up with old buddies! Definitely a warm welcome and so friendly. Not tried the food on a while so I'm basing it on when I last came in many years ago! So I will cha get if I go out for food. Keep up the good work. 😉✨️

Staff are always so friendly and the pub has a good atmosphere. Ellis is always so welcoming and has a nice pony tail, Toni, Ashley, amber and Ashley are always lovely too!

This was my first time at Black Bull. I enjoyed the food and the staff were very friendly. I will surely be visiting again. Highly recommended 👍

Great atmosphere for the Euros would definitely recommend plenty of screens inside and a big screen outside. Quick and easy to get to the bar. Shared a selection of the small plates and trio of loaded fries - all very tasty.

Great Local pub. Friendly helpful staff. Great place to meet up with friends to chill and have a nice catch up. And the base for the old collegians football team.

Disaster. Do not eat this overpriced frozen food. Chef, I used the term loosely is useless. The wait of 45 minutes totally unacceptable

Really friendly staff couldn't do enough for us. The food was excellent well chosen for quality and well cooked, my expectations were surpassed in every aspect. I had a triple burger and I had to ask if it was home made, I've not had one better. Well worth a visit.

Food good, good choice and fair prices. One Gammon and one Lasagne main meal. Very tasty and good portions. Staff great and overall good experience. First time here but sure we'll be back.

Food was pretty poor and not a very family friendly pub.

Was first time going it was recommended, 2 for 1 meals were nice. Only one staff on and she was running around.

Went for some food and drinks yesterday teatime with my daughter. Polite, attentive bar staff who all looked happy in their jobs. A good vibe throughout the pub and the food and drinks were excellent! I was last here in the 80’s on a regular pub crawl round Lindley! Will definitely be going back in the near future, had such a pleasant time.

Reasonable food. Stale menu unfortunately but it was warm and delivered with a smile.

Very local feel pub, not far from where we were staying while visiting family locally. Helpful, friendly staff and good food.

So far I’ve ate here twice recently, tried the hunters chicken and the small plates, really good tasty food. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Top notch 👍🏼

Went in for lunch, to be told no burgers, no steaks, no chicken. My partner wanted something vegan. Ordered Plant Based Meatball Marinara, to then be told they didn't have that either. No point advertising food they don't have. Felt like a wasted trip.

u pay £4.50 for a pint 2 sit in a pub freezing ? then its boiling in the toilets !! ??

Sorry, it would have been more, but the whole place was freezing as there was no heating, not even the wood fire was lit

Just love this pub, excellent beers, great food and very friendly and helpful staff.

Staff were brilliant however they didn't have anything on the menu eavry time I went to order some food they kept on coming back and telling me they didn't have it when I finally found a food they had it was a chicken burger and pulled pork tacos which weren't even tacos they were just cooked tortillas the stick to hold the burger together was put in sideways !!!!! The burger was over sesoned it had way too much pepper on it the chicken tasted frozen and I only got 4 peaces of letuce they also put a empty mayonase bottle on our table they had no folks no napkins no nothing would not recomend

Food very basic the pub is not clean, cob webs hanging around ceiling and walls.

Went 2 weeks ago ordered food for 4 people after just over a hour still no food but others were served food after we had ordered oviously we was forgotten about told the waitress they said we was next 30 mins after still no food so after 1 and half hours we just told them were leaving and got our money back and left so not very good I'm afraid have eaten here before just like to say the portions are very small you don't get much food for your money need to increase the portion size on the night we did not get our food was told the chef was off sick it would have been better to have stopped food service that night as a lot of people was angry about the long wait just a suggestion for next time chef is ill. Dident even get a apologie so not sure if want to go again sorry

It’s a Greene King pub so the food is always spot on but the standout feature is the staff. Everyone was so happy and talkative. Makes it sure a nice atmosphere. Will be back if in the area again.

Really lovely food and staff but the decor could do with updating: ripped seats, hand dryer doesn’t work in ladies’ and there’s never any soap.. just a few tweaks and it’ll be perfect.

Fantastic staff, lovely atmosphere, minor issue with a lack of rocket leaves and being served brown salad leaves instead spoiling the whole look of the meal, but it wasn't the salad leaves we were there to eat. The rest of the food was delicious.

We came upon here by accident. As we originally planned on going somewhere else, but kitchen closed.. I must say what a great welcome we had.Considering we'd never been here before.We were made to feel as welcome as a regular.We had drinks and also ordered food.Everything came as it should. I asked the staff member for her name to praise her..Toni should be regarded as a well thought after staff member from how she treated us.. Give her a pat on the back..In this day and age..Its common for people to be negative.But it's rare for people to he positive..But in this case. Its needed.And should be observed

Beef was nice. Frozen veg no mash no cauliflower cheese. Peas and carrots. Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire puddings frozen . Best part of . £15. Scruffy little chef. Never again. DUMP…

Went here for tea. I ordered the mixed grill. The steak I ordered rare (my preference) to be fair it came out rare but it was cold... And the chicken is really not nice. It was really wet. Now I know that's a strange description but honestly it was soggy. The misses had katsu chicken and hers was spot on really nice. I know because it was a decent portion so I managed to have some lol. Service was great and the pub was nice and busy so had a good feel to our dining experience. Would recommend just don't have the mixed grill

Enjoyed the food x service good

A quiet Monday afternoon. Only one member of staff behind the bar. But it was a warm sunny afternoon. Plenty of customers waiting for service. Kitchen not able to cope. I ordered food but the kitchen had to close because staff too hot. Want allowed to Uber food in. Plenty of empty glasses on tables that needed clearing. Outside tables need more umbrellas.

Ordered food was terrible cold and missing things, we cancelled the order .. and decided not to have food.. the chef came out very amused about the complaint .. was abit unprofessional.

Our second visit were the food was poor...this time we just didnt eat it...my pie was cold and watery in the middle!...and the Nacho's were burned at the side with no jalapeno's....would probably be ok if you stuck to ordering deep fried everything because its hard to mess that up...and there is either no milk for a coffee or just enough for one!!! If you just need a beer it's ok...

Food is tasty. Beer is cold. Atmosphere is warm. What else could you possibly need

We had a Groupon to use but unfortunately the first time we went, it wasn't valid due to the bank holiday. Fair enough, our mistake! Went back a few weeks later to use the voucher and the same guy, Ellis 😁 served us and even remembered us! He was more than happy to help with anything we needed and great to chat to 😊

The Black Bull has a beautiful beer garden with a great view to a park. The attention was very good and they offer great pub food and a diverse selection of ales, stouts and blondes. Cleanness was top. Nice place to have a few drinks outdoors.

Just went to black bull for a Sunday roast. Safe to say I won't return. Food was not cooked properly. Stuff was missing and we were charged full price. It was not worth the money. It was also cold. The roast potatoes were not cooked they were frozen potatoes. Worst roast I've ever had. Food was left with alot still on our plates and other people eating noticed and asked why we were leaving it.

Poor WiFi pubs a little tired car park you decide .

Great location clean and tidy and great friendly staff so helpful and to top it off the food was great and the chocolate fudge cake and ice-cream was amazing xxxx

Food was great and the service was friendly and efficient. Loved the menu. I opted for a light meal of chicken tacos. They were amazing and dripping in hot sauce. If I find myself in Huddersfield again I'd definitely pop in.

Expensive food for what you get, staff seemed overworked to the point they didn't seem very happy to see us walk in. Lady on the bar seemed annoyed tbh. Long queues for the bar, again it appeared there were only 2 staff working not much for a bank holiday monday. Went for a birthday meal but the atmosphere wasn't at all welcoming.

Went Saturday night and had a few drinks . I haven't been in for a couple of years and the only thing I noticed different about the place was the lack of bar staff . Obviously there's not enough staff employed , and it was really busy . I'm not knocking the three lads who were working that night cos they worked non stop and did a brilliant job . Serving drinks , collecting glasses , washing glasses 👍👍👍

We always go to the black bull when we visit family and have always enjoyed it. However it seems to have drifted away from what we like. We never liked all the tvs which you cannot escape from. I have commented before asking why they are not turned off during the day or when there is nothing on. Fair enough, live footie or other sports, it’s a mixed pub after all. However we lived with them. But now. We ate there and the food was ok. Revisited since and to be fair the TV sound is now off during the day so I have upped my score to 4.

A previous post I'd put 3 stars but meant to put 4. I'm not really a pub type of person, however it was a nice atmosphere and friendly service. I do like fancy cocktails which I don't expect from a traditional pub anyway, but part the reason why I'd usually go to bars. The outside space is good in the summer months too.

The place is great as a pub!! The food has been better and half of the food we wanted was not available!! ... There was ONE staff member doing everything ... We would return because of his hospitality 👍

Great chicken and bacon salad and lots of it. Friendly staff, good range of beers and reasonable prices. Served by Josh & Danny. Recommended.

Very good ,didn't book and despite a wedding later in the afternoon we were very pleased with service and food.

Good pub grub adequate parking, seem to run out of menu options quite early though and some options appear (IMO) to be supermarket.

Lovely food and staff were nice

Been a few times and it's never been better than "ok" But this most recent visit sealed it for us and we won't go back. Advertised as family and dog friendly. By dog friendly, that apparently means letting people have dog on a long lead wandering from table to table. We love dogs, have our own, but getting tripped by one whose lead is all over the place, or getting sniffed at while trying to eat...no thanks. Then family friendly....sorry, but the language coming from the table of rowdy blokes says otherwise. And I mean, REALLY foul language at the tops of their voices. Not once did any of the staff say anything. And maybe we'd have sucked that up if we got some amazing food, but it was just average pub food. Nothing more, nothing less. It's a tiny old place that could be a lovely little village type pub, but instead it's part of a big chain and trying to be all things to all people. It doesn't work. Loads of much nicer places around.

Went here for lunch today with my mum who is gluten free was fabulous josh took our order obviously difficult because mum gluten free but josh was most helpful person really polite went through everything with us really accommodating and cheerful even asked chef Kyle to come and make sure everything ok and he was so helpful too the meal was excellent complements to Kyle can't rate the black bull and staff enough definitely going again and reccomend to friends Thankyou you so much Josh and Kyle ❤❤
