Stoped on Saturday after around 2.30 hardly anybody eating Ordered two teas panini and sandwich . Notice says “good for is worth waiting for “ . Yes we waited went in to ask for the teas which eventually came Eventually the food and it was dreadful. The coleslaw looked runny and not to good at all . The BLT on white was truly awful pale fatty bacon the cheapest of bread and lettuce just inedible I went inside with the plates and told the girl who was indifferent and surprised Toilets awful no paper which I also said when I left Really poor experience

Avoid. Sat outside as lovely day. Ordered and waited over half hour for a limp, soggy avocado salad - lettuce leaves swimming in water - couple of sliced tomatoes, cucumber and avocado - battered chicken chunks that were just kids chicken nuggets for adult meal and scampi no better - garnish on these two meals was the same as the full price salad - shocking £40 Cutlery dirty and all served with no customer service at all. Complained on leaving to waitress who said she would tell the boss! Lets hope she has!!

This is could do a lot better for the location. To the average visitor the place seems ideal, good location, tide in or out, very pleasant views and almost captive clientele. Yet there are rough edges which could be improved . Ordering was a bit off hand, perhaps an off day (?) service a little slow - lot of chat with some regulars or locals, which slowed things down a bit. In their defence the wasp issue was not their fault , it did improve, and it seems they were doing a lot to be rid of them. The fault is hooligans who sometimes leave rubbish there overnight. A more friendly counter staff would help, but they have the makings of a good business , prices seemed just right to us, and we would give it another try when in the area.

Been here before was adequate , but today extremly poor. You question above" what did you go for" well initially lunch, but they are so slow I thought I would have to book in at one of the pubs overnight. I prepaid by the way at 12:43 the two paninis arrived at 13:23, the tea we had, in paper cups was cold. I spoke to a girl at the counter to find out where the order was twice , the first time she didnt even have the manners to come and tell us. Poor , poor. When the food did arrive there was no apologises just said "here you go guys", well tbh honest I really think calling people guys is a dreadful way of speaking in a little village like Burnham. There was no offer of a fresh tea . I didnt know how they were so slow , there was hardly anyone there apart from a bunch of kids inside. Interesting sign on the door refering to grab a table for a chat , I think the staff need to do less chating and more working. God knows how long we would have been with something more complicated, they only have to reheat the already made paninis and open the carton with coleslaw, and put a few crisps on the plate. Unbelievable as a famous scotsman once said.

We had a really lovely meal out- I have coeliac disease or in gluten free, we asked for avocado on toast with gluten free bread but we were then told that there was a panini instead, so we order and sat down. The waitress then came up and said there was no gluten free bread at all but she can do some sausages, egg and avocado. Being gluten free this is quite a common occurrence so I was absolutely fine with this. She then came back and said that the sausages are not gluten free and she then went out of her way to drive to Tesco to get some gluten free bread!! Absolutely incredible service and made me feel very valued as a customer.

30/7/23 Worst place we’ve ever had the misfortune to visit for lunch. We we were told there is a 15/20 minute wait which we accepted, but not double that time, after some probing I was told the order was lost, but this was only found out by asking different personnel, nobody new anything. And we had prepaid. Their friend with baby and relatives took preference to us in the lengthy wait for food. Will not be returning! Very unprofessional ! Maybe it will improve with time along with the youngsters running it. Tea was served in paper cups when china could clearly seen to be given to others almost discrimination . We were not alone, the couple on the next table complained about cold coffee, only to be told it was because the milk was from a cold fridge, excellent ! We had to ask for the dirty table to be cleaned which was done, but told it would remain sticky due to them being varnished, the ansa to that is sand them off to bare wood and leave them exactly like that, you can then wipe them with impunity . In all , this establishment needs to improve drastically if it wishes to retain its customer base. After my patience ran out and a trip to the counter I was told a refund was not possible as the machine could not cope, the same machine that could not give me a receipt at prepayment, how handy for them as I had no definate way to ascertain the correct time factor for the long delay. And by the way, I am not your love ❗️ I fail to understand how there are so many five star reviews given by several other clients, we must be unlucky, along with the couple on the next table. No pics as we just wanted to get out of the place.

After visiting this cafe in Burnham I will most definitely not be going back. Took my two young children here a few weeks back and the service was diabolical. I didn’t catch the lady’s name but one waitress was extremely brash in the way she served not only me but other customers, which I also heard another lady commenting on. 2 meals for the kids hardly warm and left the majority of mine as it just tasted like microwaved crap. Such as shame as with the right people running it this place could be brilliant, a lovely view of the river from both outside and inside but rude staff with a poor approach to customers. Will not be returning or recommending unless you want the bare minimum

Visited many food outlets in Burnham over the years but not Bistro on the Quay and sadly will not visit again. Sat inside at the sticky tables, yuk. Fancied a panini, they had run out was advised I could have a toastie. Opted for a tuna and cheese melt. My husband ordered the scampi and chips. Roughly 40 mins later our food arrived looking edible although the scampi was rather over brown we thought at least it’s cooked properly. My toastie on the other hand, looked ok on the top but after one mouthful and turning it over it was totally burnt and where it was so overcooked there was no cheese left!!!! May have just been a bad day or not enough staff but will not be returning,

Popped in to the Bistro on the Quay for a Coffee and cake for me and tea for my wife although they seemed busy they did forget our order and served people who came in after us, When it did arrive my Victoria sponge was old dry and not eatable a nice lady took it away and said i will tell the manager she was gone an age when she returned i had drunk my coffee what then appeared was an uncooked smaller cake with loads of cream hanging out of it botched up in the back. This was a total rip off and a waste of money beware

Had a wonderful visit to Bistro on the Quay today with a friend. Menu was lovely. My friend ordered the chilli prawns which she said were delicious. I ordered the cheese ploughman’s Wow what an amazing ploughman’s it was. Can honestly say it is the best one I’ve ever had, it was enormous and so much on the plate, it was loaded and presentation was amazing so a massive 10 out of ten to the chef. I’ve had a few in my time and I felt the need to tell the lovely young waitress. Service was good and what a beautiful view over the river on such a warm sunny day. Thank you for our delicious lunch 😊

Doesn't look much from the outside but our welcome was warm and the food was excellent . Two of our party had the very hearty full English breakfast which was one of the best I have ever had. Well cooked, tasty and not at all greasy. My wife did not get quite what she had asked for and the staff were very apologetic and rectified the issue to our satisfaction very quickly. Could not recommend highly enough.

My daughter decided to celebrate her 28th birthday with our family of eight at The Bull at Troston. We all ordered starter and main plus several bottles of wine with the bill £500+. My partner had the venison which was delicious as was the lamb that several other people at the table ordered. Unfortunately the mashed potato with the pie and the sauce with the monkfish were extremely salty and the monkfish was slightly overcooked. To add salt into the wound, pardon the pun, was when they wanted to charge us £25 to serve the birthday cake that my daughter's mother in law had brought along with her. When I questioned the £25 charge I was advised it was to cover the "loss of income" because we wouldn't be ordering dessert. We were not going to order dessert anyway after the two courses we had already consumed but brought along a small birthday cake to wish my daughter a happy birthday with her blowing out the candles. I think the charge of £25 is a tad steep and narrow minded considering we would have ordered another round of drinks to toast my daughter and after cake coffees, which at their prices would have been considerably more than the £25. Needless to say we didn't pay the £25 and left The Bull at Troston feeling disappointed and angry with management due to them repeatedly telling me the charge was to cover their loss of revenue (obviously the £500 we spent was not enough for them). Rated three for atmosphere as renovation work in the process of being done. I'm sure it will be nice once finished, not that I will see it as it's the first and last time there for me I'm afraid.

2nd review - Feb 23, 2025 Wonderful experience again. The landlord is so friendly and welcoming- taking care of the bar guests and restaurant guests with equal high standards. I had made a comment in my previous post that the sport on TV was a little distracting - imagine my surprise and delight to find a fireplace image 🔥 burning instead of the sport. It looked great and apparently was prompted by my feedback- wow! A business owner who listens and responds. I really appreciate the 15 minute interval bookings for lunch. The food is fresh, service speedy and friendly and there is no sense of rush or overcrowding. We were a little late for our booking, but we were accommodated without any bother. I think everyone from Latchingdon needs to support this pub - they are working so hard to give a lovely experience. Thank you for our super Sunday roast again today ♥️🌟✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️ First post: I didn't use the rooms so can't comment AND (more importantly) there is no overall rating for food - which was 6 stars ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️ Having lived my early life in Mayland - one might assume I know the Red Lion ... I don't ... it was my first (but NOT last visit). Sunday Lunch - I called around 12:30 to ask if they were serving and if I should book. The VERY pleasant man on the phone checked if we could be accommodated by the chef and invited us. I asked if they welcome dogs 🐕- YES (on a lead). We arrived and I was surprised how big the car park is and how easy it was to park - mum is very wobbly on her legs, so it was great to be able to park right by the gate. The rear garden is very secure - which in the summer would make it nice for families - fenced and gated. We were welcomed immediately and taken to a nice table in the corner, close to a radiator with a big space for my dog and her bed. They closed off the area for us with a gate (but I left her on the lead as we had been requested. The food menu was lovely - not an overwhelming choice (sometimes places offer too much choice). It's a clever idea to offer Subday roast with a single, double or treble meat selection! The roast potatoes were so crispy, veggies were fresh and perfectly cooked. We had extra gravy and additional sauces were offered. Mum (who is quite selective) said "Ooh this is better than the Star at Steeple (which in fairness is also good) - but her unprompted comment is worth mentioning The man who I think I'd the owner served us drinks, checked on us and had a quick chat. I think it was the chef who served the food - which came out quickly and piping hot. She also came and checked on us. Special note - sausage for the dog was appreciated 👏 The price was reasonable- £33 for 2 roast dinners, 2 drinks and a dog sausage. They take cash 💸 💰 🤑 - appreciated that. The only thing I would request is that the huge TV showing football is switched off (I have no idea if it's linked to the others) - the flickering was disturbing and it doesn't add to the atmosphere (sorry football lovers 😐)! Thank you Red Lion - fantastic Sunday lunch and hospitality- I wish you continued success. We will be back another week 🎊🙏

Had a hard time finding anything appealing to order, and I'm pretty open-minded with food. Too many mayo-based sauces of all kinds. The server did help ensure I didn't get any of said eggy sauces on a dish, so she was 5-stars. That was balanced out by the bartender who let me just stand there before, during, and after ordering my drinks. It's one of those places where the bartenders either can't or don't make any effort to track the order of customers approaching the bar. She also didn't tell me anything when she gave me my mixed drink but not my water--so I stood there for another 10 minutes only to find that she forgot it (and wasn't just busy and getting around to it). People in customer service: tell your customers what you are doing. Don't just do without confirming you heard your customer, or without saying something brief to wrap up the interaction. Idk, it's a pet peeve of mine when people in customer service don't say anything after you order your drink, or after they give you your order. My socially competent and emotionally intelligent self is left waiting, being polite and presuming the benefit of the doubt that you are actually doing something to help me.
