Have not been here for a while so decided to give it a try. Neither of us was impressed with our meals. Chips were very very greasy. Fish undercooked & watery Place was busy but mostly with drinkers Definitely gone downhill since last visit

Went with couple friends and we all loved it. The free bread is lovely and just the right portion size. I had fillet steak and it was cooked to perfection. Would definitely go back

My Daughter & Son where treating me & My mum (grandma) to a Sunday Lunch for Mothers Day!! I have one word for it… AWFUL!!! To start with it was cold, the meat was like leather, veg cold & hard, 2 roast potatoes like bricks & had no potato left in they had been cooked so much Red cabbage boiled to death & like mush, honestly the worst food I have ever had served to me, We mentioned it to the waitress who was very attentive & said she would let her manager know. She came with the bill to let us know they were not charging us for the 3 Sunday lunches we got, which was extremely generous of them… should have got the burger like my son 🤣

I came for food with friends and I can definitely say the food was worthwhile. Unfortunately our experience was ruined by one of the chefs, who kept shouting at various other staff members. He spoke in another language quite often which I imagine added to the hostility for the staff on the receiving end and upset the poor waitress that served us and was doing a lovely job. The chef could be heard throughout the restaurant and other tables also looked concerned for how he was treating the staff. Other than this we had a nice time and it’s just such a shame that someone clearly having a bad day has left us not really wanting to go back. If we’d have sat upstairs our experience would might of been more positive and we’d have liked to return.

We have always loved this venue and have had some delicious meals and service here.This week however the food was mediocre and the sight of kitchen staff wearing woolly hats and padded jackets extremely questionable!! I would like to give benefit of the doubt and hope that last minute staffing changes resulted in inferior food quality and service.

The staff were friendly & helpful. Really enjoyed the food, the only down side was I had the featherblade beef & the plate wasn't hot so food soon became cold, the beef was placed on top of mash potatoes & mash cools quickly, the jue also cooled quickly. We still enjoyed it enough to want to return to try their lunchtime menu

Excellent food, fresh cooked, fresh ingredients. Fast & friendly service. Great real ale too so a very enjoyable evening.

Food very poor, I had the fajitas, the wraps were served cold, they were that dry they were brittle. Very little chicken and extremely overpriced. Will not be returning.

Myself and one other guest ordered the spiced chicken wrap which allegedly contained chicken with fried onions cheese and harissa ketchup, wrapped in a toasted tortilla. The "toasted" wrap was as white as the day it was made. Inside there was plenty of chicken but that was about it. No onions were found. a small amount of cheese at one end of the wrap and the spicy part, the Harissa ketchup was virtually non existent and certainly could not be tasted.

Service was great, really nice staff, good atmosphere, however, the food was really not that nice at all. I had the salt and pepper chicken, felt Greasy and just nothing special, belly pork which had a huge piece of sloppy fat on it and the sides just didn’t really match, then the pudding crème brûlée tasted burnt and came With cream which I just found strange and didn’t match. Wish I had a simple burger. Partner had garlic mushrooms which he said were ok and the steak and ale pie which he enjoyed but said the chunky chips were greasy. Real shame!

Always good quality , would recommend to all locals. We have been on many occasions, sometimes desserts are free.

Very good food, good menu, nice seating, great decor and atmosphere, nice staff, average prices for the area, would recommend.

We visited on Mother’s Day as a treat and it was very average, not sure we will be back as this is the second time now where I’ve not been impressed. I’ve been with friends before and the food wasn’t great then either. We decided to come slightly early as we were booked in at 12 to be told they wasn’t open yet but if had a booking we could sit and wait, wasn’t the most nicest welcome so got my partners back up straight away, however we was looking forward to the Sunday dinner. I had the Giant Yorkshire Pudding which wasn’t that enjoyable, was so looking forward to this, it was hard and the pork was very fatty. My partner (who used to be a chef) is quite hard to please but he got the garlic mushrooms for starter and said it was bland and grey, you could tell it had been there a while. He wasn’t impressed with his Sunday dinner. We had taken my mother in law and her partner and they didn’t seem impressed either. I enjoyed my pudding but you certainly can’t go wrong with pudding, however stepdad got the bread and butter pudding and left most of that as well. We were trying to do something nice as a treat but they certainly won’t be back again.

Unfortunately the best experience about our meal was the amazing service. Our Thai fish cake starter was completely bland with zero taste of Thailand....my belly pork main potato's were also bland with zero seasoning. Disappointing. However my wife said her Sea bass dish was the best she has ever had???

Delicious food and the most amazing cocktails ! We have been visiting here for several years now and have never been disappointed with the food and service. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the food always beautifully presented ; last night was no exception. Thank you.

Lovely place to come. It’s so cozy and Christmasy. Always a range of real ale on. The food is lovely and reasonably priced. Staff are all friendly and smiling.

I came here last week for the first time with a group of friends for a pre booked baby shower. I can honestly say I have never been to a more shocking restaurant in my life. Not one member of staff was pleasant to us (there was a mix up with number of chairs needed- their fault). After mum to be was becoming a little distressed we asked to speak to the manager- all I will say on him is he should NOT be working in customer service. I have never met a more rude and vile man In my life, did absolutely nothing to try and accommodate their mix up and stood there smirking when guests started to leave as they felt so uncomfortable with his attitude. Staff behind the bar were no better, again rude obnoxious and made us all feel uncomfortable. In the end we found another venue short notice to accommodate us so we left. Prices are quite expensive and I would say save your money and find somewhere nice and friendly because this place seriously needs its staff looking at or some training in customer service!!!

Celebrated my friend's 40th Birthday a group of 9 of us we come to Bar 42 a lot and as always didnt disappoint,food lovely my chicken was cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere lovely staff all together a really great evening with my friends.

Bar42 has always been a favourite. Not been for a while but booked a family celebration sunday dinner. What a let down! Burnt yorkshire pudding filled with roast potatoes that tasted like they were old. Finally the waiter came & I told him it tasted burnt and not fresh..no apologies just got an abrupt attitude saying they had been cooked today & walked off. Paid my £75 and walked out never to return. Poor food quality & poor service. What a shame!

We decided to book the Christmas menu here for a group of friends as we normally love the food here, but this time round we were really disappointed. So we all chose our 3 course Christmas menu beforehand and I was really excited but the food really wasn’t that great at all. The garlic mushrooms were lovely as usual but the Chicken main was so dry. The chocolate indulgence was a ‘cold brownie’ which wasn’t that nice and I love anything chocolate. All my friends also said the same that their food wasn’t anything special. Most had the Christmas dinner and the stuffing looked rock hard and so dry. Really disappointed as we love coming here and normally love the food.

Brilliant meal for me and my partner. I had chicken skewers my partner had chicken burger. Both meals great. Staff was all great

Can't fault anything from our experience, good beers on draught and staff happy to explain choices or recommend, menus easy to navigate and order from, food is amazing quality/value and the staff are extremely likable and polite, will be back for sure :)

So glad I found this place. I was looking for somewhere I could get a few hours work done and came across it by chance. Food was very tasty and good value plus the staff were extremely cheerful and helpful. Couldn’t ask for more, thank you!

Use to come here all time before lockdown/in-between for both drinks and food….don’t know what’s happened with your staff. All rude and abrupt when I asked a question regarding cocktails. Went to stand at the bar and they all chorused it was still table service which is fine. But staff took forever to to come and take order and then another age for our drinks to come! I understand tables being full but this was not a issue previously. Will avoid like the plague in the future.

First of all the staff her are good. They are friendly and efficient.Food ordered today was generally disappointing.Let me start with the kids menu. A childs pizza was ordered description belowMargarita Pizza(cheese and tomato)2 large pieces of stone baked tomato and basil pizza topped with mozzarellaWhat we got was two large pieces of bread with a pizza topping. The bread was at least an inch thick and 7" long. Really not suitable for a child. Far too much bread. Stick to traditional style pizza.(not to mention the menu does not say it would be a bread pizza they served).Secondly the kids pasta dishThe pasta was overcooked and the sauce was very watery (as if the pasta had not been drained properly). The sauce was tasteless. It may be for a child but they still deserve good food.Thirdly The roast lamb (from the main menu) was dry. It had been sat on the pass for 5 mins under the hot lamp, so this would not have helped.The chicken skewers had 4 pieces of chicken on...not a lot for £13.95. Poor value. And please get rid of the 'hanging' stands. So out of date. Might be to look impressive but for me it is a gimmick.Maybe I caught the chefs on a bad day but this visit was disappointing

Lunch with my wife and 4 year old today. The restaurant was not at all busy. Ordered a sandwich and char grilled burger. The food took FAR too long to arrive ( approx 30 mins). The burger was a piece of bland white chicken that had barely been placed on a grill. Having left 80% of the chicken, explained the issues with the food. The server/supervisor rather than offer an apology and an immediate refund for the terrible burger proceeded to explain the xooking method. At payment, asked if he could do anything to fix a meal that was already finished. We paid and left. We should not have to ask for a refund or discount. This is not about the money, its about poor quality of food and service.

I came with a party of 20 friends to bistro 42 for a meal and cocktails (can I just say the cocktails … wow , TO DIE FOR !!! ) 2 cocktails for £12 how amazing is that! The food was delicious, I was so impressed that the whole food order came so perfect I expected with a large lunch of us something would go wrong but everything was perfect. I ordered the salt and pepper chicken to start and then beef skewer for main - I was very happy with my choice it was delicious I would 100% recommend anyone to come here, the staff were so kind and caring and couldn’t do more for us. We will definitely be returning!

Party of 8, warm welcome and served drinks propmtly, we were quickly seated and our order taken. The service was quick and efficient and the food was hot and delicious, we ordered starters, Sunday lunch and desserts and everyone was very happy with the food, the staff kept checking if we needed anything else. Overall lovely experience, we will definitely be returning.

A poor to average experience. My food was cold and was sent back resulting in my wife having finished her course before mine came. The second was a bit better but we only had a token apology from the waitress. Apart from being cold the food itself was ok but the general lack of service and care spoilt the experience

What a disappointment! The meal was cold, tasteless and resembled food you would get in a cheap pub chain. Will definitely be sticking with Bar 42 in Horbury!

We had an amazing meal last Sunday lunchtime. It was an impromptu visit after our original plan went out of the window. We called ahead to see if we needed to book a table to sit outside but were told it is first come first serve. It was very quiet when we arrived so we got pick of the tables which was great. There were marquees up incase of any rain. All of the staff were super friendly and kindly brought my doggy a bowl of water. Also the food was very nice, everything we had for our main courses was spot on. Only criticism would be desserts - we thought they were quite pricey for what you got, especially the small portion I received for a ‘slice of chocolate fudge cake’. With the ice cream not being the best either (tasted shop bought). Other than that a really good experience and we are planning to return ASAP!

Thursday evening, outside, with option to turn on the heater under the canopy. Service was quick and polite, menu was varied and food plentiful and good quality. Starters were free as they are Mon-Thurs.

Poor service from start to finish by 3 staff. We ordered drinks when we arrived for food & were seated outside, told they don’t do tabs so we had to pay then despite saying we were going to order food. I had the feta salad but there wasn’t much salad! We ordered our meals & were brought the bill which had a missing item, I was assured it had been ordered but they took the bill back to correct & we paid in full. Half way through the meal my friend ordered another drink & the other waitress asked if we wanted to put it on our tab?! She then came back & asked us to pay whilst we were still eating so we told her to come back when we’d finished. At the end we were given the full bill despite having paid for everything bar the last drink. They took an age to come back to us so my friend ended up going inside to resolve the issue.

Our first meal out after restrictions lifted. We were not let down by Bistro 42. Staff complying to regulations. Very friendly. Meals arrived promptly and were hot. Portion size good. All meals tasty. Good variety to choose from.

Disappointing - sitting outside, heaters not working, it was 8c. Food took ages to arrive - nearly an hour by which time we were very cold. Food was okay but the wait and the cold spoilt evening. Staff aware heaters not working, it’s not fair to be charging full price when people are cold and waiting long periods of time.

To say we are so close, is an unerstatement, yet never tried Bistro 42 until Saturday night.Made telephone order, young lady was very polite, we was given the option to pay over the phone or upon delivery. Two burgers ordered both came with chips, we rquest asap delivery, and told 45 mins, not a problem. delivery arrived on time, the foor in a paper bag, inside came two bages of chips, and two boxes wth burgers in, and yes they looked like the photos on the web page and tasted out of this world! so to recap, burgers for just under £10 each includes chips etc (we had £2-50 delivery charge on top for where we live, happy to pay as not many food places deliver to our village), freindly staff on phone, delivery on time and hot, burgers as per website, taste fantastic. Will we go back?????? Hum!!!!! YES next wekend, and looking forward to the restraunt reopening after lockdown, think we have just found a new eating place:)

Very impressed with safety precautions (Covid-19) on entry to the restaurant. There was a friendly welcome and me and my daughter really enjoyed the Raspberry Martini Cocktails (2 for £10 brought swiftly to the table, even though the restaurant was busy. Super variety of food on offer for a lunchtime. My daughter had tapas and I had Hunters Chicken which were all delicious. Keep up the good work! Will be back soon.

Eaten here on several occasions over the years and generally has been reasonable - unfortunately today.Arrived with plenty of seating outside and ordered just after another family. After a short period all the tables outside were occupied however at least 4 tables were served food prior to us despite ordering a long time after. The family adjacent to us had also not had their food yet. This was over 40 minutes after ordering. I enquired with the waitress to see if they had forgotten about us. Her response suggested that as there were 5 of us (2 adults and 3 children) and because we had ordered children’s food, that was why there was a delay. No apology, not even when the food arrived. The food was ok, burger and steak good but the (children’s) chicken nuggets over cooked and Cajun sandwich with a single lettuce leaf as a ‘salad’.Overall feedback - must try harder. Quite a poor standard of service to blame a customer for what they ordered on the delay. We only went for lunch because of Rishi.

Our previous experience was surprisingly poor cos before that had had some lovely meals here. Was interested to see how they would respond both to Covid safety and service on a Rishi meal deal day. On both accounts they get a big tick. The food was excellent albeit suggest slightly over priced but we wanted to try something new. Had a very enjoyable garlic mushrooms then the excellent Greek stuffed chicken. My expert burger wife loved her burger. Shared the chocolate brownie plus ice cream which was one of the best tasted. Very impressed with the level of service, even on a Rishi day. Looking forward to returning here in the coming weeks.

Excellent midweek meal with the £10 off per person deal so excellent value. Staff were attentive and professional sticking to the strict Covid rules, felt very safe. Had the king prawns pil pil to start followed by Greek chicken which was lovely and a beautiful salted caramel cheesecake for dessert. Really enjoyed the whole meal and dining experience was fine under current circumstances, plenty of distance between tables etc . Would definitely recommend.

Booked a table for lunch for GCSE celebrations. Good daytime menu. Had Steak Baguette, turkey ciabatta, pulled pork burger and fish n chips. All was delicious and staff were friendly and attentive. Great lunch out

Birthday meal for 12 of us. Booked really easily. Due the covid situation we were put on 2 tables of 6 which is understandable but it just felt like we were really separate but suppose can’t be helped. Food was lovely as always and a bargain too with the government scheme offer. The only downside was quite a few people in the group got the sirloin steak and the sauces for the steak came out about 5 minutes later. Surely they should come out together. You don’t want your steak left there for 5 minutes before. Other than that food was beautiful! Thank you for a great night!

Visited 42 this evening for a catch up meal with the girls, we weren’t disappointed the staff were very attentive, always checking whether we needed anymore refreshments, which were brought out promptly. Food was very quick, and mouth-wateringly tasty - you can tell it’s of a great quality. I’d like to point out how the new plates, meal set ups & New menu were very impressive. It was great to go out feeling a little bit of normality during such uncertain times, with safety measures in place of course. We will be returning very soon!!

Wow! Booking for 5 people. We thoroughly enjoyed the excellent service with a smile. Food was beautifully presented and plenty of it. We all had different dishes but each of us commented on the excellent quality of the food. New menu is fantastic - something for everyone including vegetarians.No need to worry about social distancing - 42 Ossett have it all sorted! The place was buzzing all night and we were made to feel very welcome and always plenty of staff to cater for all our needs. Keep up the good work and we shall all be returning soon for another fun evening.Can highly recommend this restaurant.

We booked a table from 5-8 for lunch. Got there and was told that the table wasn’t booked so but they could sit us in the bar area, we was fine with this. Sat down and 2 other friends weren’t able to come until 6 due to work; we didn’t think this would be an issue as the table was booked until 8. However the waitress insisted we ordered before 6, after asking if we could order when they arrived (which was 6:05) we got told no, so they had to order food before even getting to the restaurant as apparently it gets too busy past 6, this isn’t our issue the table is booked until 8?? Anyway we ordered the food, when they arrived they presented the table with the bill to pay for all food and drinks already, again okay with this as there’s clearly a sign stating this at the bar. However, another waitress then brought the food out when a waitress came to take the payments, we politely said is it okay if we eat first as the food is on the table, she replied “no” and stood there with the card machine. After 5 Separate card payments we could finally eat!!!! The food is amazing, the only amazing thing about this place. A separate waitress then asked if everything was okay about 20 minutes later to which we replied yes now, but service has been poor. Credit to this waitress she came over to speak but tried to justify everything; how is it justifiable to get our booking lost, rude service, and paying for food that’s on the table when we simply asked for 10 minutes to eat to then pay? Overall experience is terrible! I will not return and there is better service elsewhere for the same quality and price of food.

Visited Bistro 42 Ossett last night with 8 family members post lockdown. Always loved this restaurant but wow even better! All safety measurements were followed and very well organised. The menu has been updated since last time we visited and even better than before. Food was amazing can’t fault a thing and the portion size was spot on. Service was really good and quick. Can’t fault a thing, will be returning very soon!

Been here today for Lunch and the service was diabolical. Sat out said as only booked tables in side waited 3/4 of a hour ( and no Im not exaggerating) before we could catch the eye of a waitress.asked if we could have a menu and order some drinks 20 min later still no drink and food order not taken .so after 1 1/4 hours still sat there we got up and left . Unless you have all day to sit about don’t bother.

Last dined here 5 years ago. Chose here as we could sit outside. Decent pint of White Rat but the Nachos were very ordinary. Good service and well organised re covid but won't be rushing back for food.

Visited Bistro 42 yesterday for lunch for a belated birthday celebration. Was a little apprehensive how social distancing and Covid 19 measures would work but on entering the premises it was like going home, The staff were attentive and although there is a limited menu there was sufficient choice. I had the cajun chicken and halloumi pasta which was very tasty. It felt good to eat out and celebrate in a normal way. All staff wore visors but this did not affect the ambience or atmosphere. We had a very relaxed and enjoyable visit

A group of us went to Bistro 42 last Monday to celebrate my wife's birthday.The staff making the booking were very helpful taking into account that some of the party had walking difficulties. The service was excellent, the staff were pleasant and served with a smile.The food was well presented, served hot and in good time.it was also very tasty.We all had a good night.

My wife and I along with other family members visited this location, it’s over a year since we last visited, we found it easy to book a table for 6, on arrival we were taken to our table and our drinks order taken, by helpful polite staff. The menu is extensive and covers most tastes. Our meals arrived quickly were very tasty and very much enjoyed by all except out youngest grandson, he ordered from the children’s menu, ordering the 3 pieces of margarita pizza with chips, when it arrived it was two slices of bruschetta with a margarita type topping...But otherwise the meal was excellent, staff friendly and helpful, I am glad not much has changed in the year we have been away.

Frequently visit 42 and for the most part often enjoy it. Most recently visited for a birthday meal with family and ordered one of my favourite dishes (monkfish) which i was really disappointed by on this occasion - was quite chewy and didn’t taste as fresh as previous times. Similarly I think service is a mixed bag too - you either get really nice staff or staff that clearly can’t be arsed. I’d say on balance it’s a nice restaurant overall, good menu selection and for the most part I am satisfied with my food.

Went here with family & had the most amazing meal, the service was excellent, friendly & efficient, we're glad the hotel we stayed at was full for the evening meal. To be recommended.

Our first visit here to use our vouchers so it was all new to us..we visited on a rainy Tuesday and were quickly seated. We had Italian garlic bread for starters and the Cajun and chargrilled chicken for mains.A good generous slice of fudge cake rounded off a really enjoyable meal.We both decided we would definitely return.Friendly staff and speedy service even though the restaurant was full.A very enjoyable first visit.

We arrived at around 11.45 when the breakfast menu was still in place but we were pleased when they also let us choose from the lunch menu. We ate in the bar area although there is a separate dining room.I chose the 3 tapas items for £7 which I thought was excellent value - the individual portions were small but it was plenty for a lunchtime treat. The scampi and prawns were both excellent but the batter on the calimari was dry and overcooked. I asked for mayo to accompany my dishes as they did not come with any dips or sauces.There is a great menu selection with something for everyone and I would definitely return for another visit,

Had Lamb which was absolutely amazing not to mention the couple of gins to go with that which were lovely too

Food was fine and service terrific. Especially when helping at a family meal with a toddler. Nothing was too much trouble. Bravo!

I have never been here before and came as part of a works group, the staff at the bar were very friendly, the food was lovely and was so shocked to hear one of the kitchen staff had nipped out to get some gluten free bread, was so kind. Defiantly recommend here, as such a nice and cosy setting

Called in for food and drink on 9th November at 11:40am.My family sat down and I went to the bar to order drinks, the lady at the bar said we don't usually serve alcohol till 12noon however on this occasion I will seen as tho there's a few of you, I ordered the drinks and popped back to the table to ask my wife a question.I came back to the bar to collect our drinks and noticed the lady violently scratching her lady bits, she turned to me then sniffed her fingers and pulled a strange face she then proceed to pour my pint of Doombar .We didn't bother reading the menu and I couldn't drink my beer after watching her scratch around up there.

Came here for a birthday meal excellent place very nice bar area and tastefully decorated out staff very friendly and the menu had a large choice food was very nice and the service very good i would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning.

We visited Bar 42 at lunchtime, and enjoyed a lovely, relaxing lunch. There was an extensive menu, from light bites to grill, and specials board. The surroundings were warm and welcoming, the food excellent, and staff friendly and efficient. Will definitely be returning. J Haigh

Very impressed with his fab little bistro in the centre of Ossett. Everything was spot on for a lovely birthday evening. Cosy, comfortable surroundings. Amazingly extensive menu - with additional specials on the board (no one could possibly complain about the choice!) Superb service! Delicious food, beautifully cooked and well presented. Fantastic value (Monday evening - buy a main course get a starter free!) And, best of all, massive selection of gins at the bar!!

Great lively surroundings in the bar but the restaurant is quiet & romantic,, a great place to eat, socialise and have a great night / day out.

Took my son 16 months old for breakfast here and we loved it I has a full English which was really tasty and he had pancakes with blueberries really good value for money

We visited on Saturday evening for a celebration meal. The place has a lovely atmosphere with a lovely bar. Our table which was upstairs was ready shortly after we arrived and had plenty of room for all the family. The service throughout the meal was excellent and the food served hot and efficiently. We all enjoyed the dishes we had chosen and all said it was one of the best restaurant meals we have had in a long time. Overall it was a fantastic night out and we will definitely be returning in the near future. The sirloin steak is highly recommended. Thank you 42

Visited on a Tuesday evening. There was plenty of customers and a nice atmosphere. We booked for 8pm and were seated soon after our arrival. There was a good choice of dishes on the menu and some excellant specials. I had the cod loin in a mild chilli sauce and could not fault it. The service was spot on. Not rushed but timely. A wonderful relaxing meal for my wife and I. The free starters was an extra bonus.

Visited last Friday with a friend. We hadn’t booked but got a table for 2, as it was only 5:30pm (but already quite busy). I had the halloumi to start & the cod for my main, both were really nice. The staff were friendly & attentive. We visit every months & are never let down.

fabulous food seem to be a young staff but all very good at there jobs would recomend to anyone nuce place with very nice fool with very good service

Mum's favourite restaurant so booked for a meal for our birthday. We don't like a big fuss but when birthdays mentioned in front of staff there was no reaction. Didn't want freebies or fireworks but an acknowledgement would have been nice!

I eat here often as they do a brilliant children's menu. All food is freshly prepared and I highly recommend. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I have also eaten the Sunday lunches and when I say they are beautiful believe me they are awesome very clean place and toilets are a pleasure to use. Can't recommend highly enough so pay a visit you will not be disappointed x

I regularly visit Ossett Bistro 42 and have always been highly satisfied and been full of praise for the staff but sadly not on this occasion. One of our party had not been before. Our starters came out promptly but we waited almost an hour for our main course. Two of the main courses were pasta dishes and it was obvious they had been in the oven as my pasta bake was dry on top yet greasy underneath and Janet's pasta was rubbery and greasy

We never complain , but I feel I must .

Although I could not fault the food I had for my lunch, unfortunately I can’t say the same for the service. The woman who served us was actually quite rude and gave me the impression that serving us was far too much trouble. I totally got the impression she could not be bothered with us which annoyed me at the time and saddens me to say I will not return. Some people either need much better training in customer service or should simply not work in the industry.

We were a party of 35 people meeting up to celebrate 50 years since we all left school in Ossett. We could not have wished for a better way to finish the day’s activities. We all pre-ordered our meals and the food, which was delicious, arrived for each person at the same time so no one was waiting to eat. The staff were very helpful and friendly, coping with 35 people at the same time is no easy task, but nothing was too much trouble for them. Great food, great staff - a night to remember.

Eaten here many times and always a great meal. They are happy to accommodate large party’s if you have a booking. They have a good selection of drinks but the bar area is quite small.

Great service again when we arrived. I really enjoy coming here the food is always good and there’s lots of choice and at fab prices too. The staff are friendly, polite and knowledgeable.

Super service again. Seated within 5 min even though it was busy for a Monday lunchtime - always a good sign! Me and my guest had the warm sandwiches (vegetarian ordered by my guest who said it was delicious) and we weren't disappointed; chunky chips were offered instead of nachos which were offered by the lovely waitress.

We had vouchers to spend so decided to try this restaurant only 1 mile away from home. A warm welcome at the bar with drinks put on the tab. We were soon shown to our table. Free starters with a main meal - Stuffed Squid and Crayfish and Mango Salad - followed by Sirloin Steak and a Garlic Mushroom Sirloin special - friendly staff - ordered desserts but not available so had to choose some different ones. A good evening would definitely visit again.

Went on Sunday and decided to have the Sunday Lunch. You get to choose it from 3 ways - plated, in a giant Yorkshire or as we did the family feast. We had a huge tray (bearing in mind we were only 2 adults and a 5 Yr old child) with stacks of beef, lamb and turkey, 5) yes 5) large individual Yorkshires, herby roasts, then a bowl of vegetables and boiled potatoes, and a jug of superb gravy and one of cauliflower cheese sauce. All this for £8.95 adults and £4.95 children. Didn't realise but you can also add sides such as Mash and Stuffing Balls. Exceptional value and excellent food, especially the melt in the mouth beef.

Have been here several times and the food has always been very good, The deep fried brie starter and the rib eye steak is one of our favourites.

As a party of six including a seven year old we booked for 6.45 and our table was ready as we walked in a few minutes early. We were welcomed at the bar and by Patrick who showed us through to our table in an already busy restaurant. There is eating both upstairs and downstairs, and not crammed in.

Prefect night. Great atmosphere. Great food. Great service. Special thanks to Courtney, Phoebe and Paddy for making my other halfs birthday so enjoyable. Will be back.

Always a favourite when visiting family in Ossett. The food is delicious and the portions extremely generous. Great cocktails too where the alcohol can be tasted rather than skimped upon! The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating too.

My family decided to visit this afternoon on the recommendation of a friend for an early mothers day meal . We were asked to wait whilst a table was laid and told we could get drinks in the bar area which was fine . We ordered wine at the bar and thought nothing about pouring into the two glasses in front of us . The bar person watched us do this and then informed us that we had, in fact , poured them into dirty glasses left on the bar . He huffed when we asked for a new bottle of wine as we had just wasted half a glass due to his mistake . We were seated and after looking around for our waiter , he took our order within ten minutes. We ordered the six for twelve something tapas and a burger between the three of us .we were sat next to the kitchen hatch and could see our meal sat there for a good ten minutes before it was brought to us , because again , the waiter was no where to be seen. He finally appeared and at this point our food had probably been waiting fifteen minutes on the kitchen hatch and sped off. As soon as we started eating our tapas we realized the six dishes were barely warm to clap cold and one of the dishes wasn't even what we had ordered . We looked round for wait staff to complain but the only one who was available was the guy who had given us the dirty glasses who was obviously ignoring us . After thirty five minutes my mother went to look for our waiter to tell him about our food . when he got there he asked why we hadn't told a member of staff . To which we explained he was no where to be seen and the other guy was ignoring us . The waiter proceeded to deal with us VERY loudly as if announcing it for everyone else's pleasure in a sarcastic tone. When all we said was the food tasted good but was cold and obviously they must be short staffed if he wasn't able to wait on us promptly . He replied that no he wasn't under staffed and this was normal service . He offered to get us fresh tapas but by then we were so mortified by his attitude we just wanted to pay and leave as we were embarrassed . At this point a customer from another table started to heckle us accusing us of wanting a discount for no reason . I accept the wait staff could not control another customer but he could have done something to dissolve the situation .My mother became VERY upset and it was left to me and my father to pay the bill ( which we were happy to pay in full because all we wanted was for him to microwave our food after all) . We were left another five minutes left stood awkwardly at the bar before the waiter more or less threw the bill at us and informed us in a snarky manner he had removed our tapas . I told him that we were mortified by what had happened and that he felt hostile and he sarcastically asked me what i expected him to do ad he wasn't being aggressive in the slightest . In short the problem seemed to be that we weren't 'Local' or 'regulars ' and that's why we deserved sub standard service. I cannot understand the service given due to the reviews i see here . I am not a complainer or a cheap skate . I work in customer services myself and can appreciate how difficult some customers to be but you should be able to complain when something is poor without being ostracized for it . Maybe they were just having a bad day but taking it out on customers is hardly fair .

A family birthday celebration and we had a great meal. Huge variety on the menu - italian, mexican (fajitas), classic burgers and steaks, other a la carte options including stroganoff, caesar salad. All our dishes were tasty, well presented and large.

Came to Bistro 42 on a Monday night and by the number of people inside this is a well trusted local restaurant. Welcomed at the bar by the friendly staff and property seated upstairs. The waitress was friendly and highlighted the specials board and also a Monday to Thursday offer of a free starter with any main Meal. My choice was a 42 combo followed by pepperd fillet steak with onions peppers and tomato penne pasta, I was not disappointed and the pepper steak was the highlight for me. I was accompanied by 3 work colleagues and all of us loved the food and service. I would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Been plenty of times in the evening but this was the first time I’d been for lunch and I wasn’t disappointed.

My dad is currently in wheelchair and we visited Bistro 42 this lunchtime. To counteract a previous review, I have to comment at how excellent the service was, considering my dad’s limited mobility. Doors were opened and we were greeted by friendly staff. The table and space in general was perfect for my dad and me and the food was fantastic quality and value. Best in the local area when it comes to weekday lunchtime. We’ll definitely go again soon! Thank you for making us feel welcome. There are 3 reasons this place is a success - quality, service and value and Bistro 42 has all these in abundance.

Visited Friday lunch time for a quick lunch .. well fair to say it wasn't quick. We was told upon arrival the soup was tomato and basil. When arrived it was a totally different. the soup had 'changed' after we ordered it.. so whilst I had my main my grandma was sat with no food whilst the chef re made her another meal. there was no where near enough staff on, there was zero control over any tables. Poor customer service, and poor experience. Will return for drinks but sadly not for food. Had to ask three times for the bill. Won't recommend
