The Weston - Restaurant in Wakefield

A lovely location to eat in. After (or even before) your visit to YSP you can eat some tasty food here and enjoy some sweet treats afterwards. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was still possible to eat without a reservation which was lucky. Gluten free options are a little complicated - you are given a separate print out with a chart to try and work out what you can eat or not, and asking the staff, as friendly as they were, wasn't much help either as they didn't know what some of the items were on the menu unfortunately.

Class. Very safe. Free car park. Great to sit outside in the cafe on a sunny day. Decent menu. Will cost you extra if you want to go round the sculpture park as well though.

A wonderful place to have coffee and/ or a meal. We enjoyed it very much and will certainly be there again .

The venue and restaurant is always very nice, especially when it’s warm enough to sit outside and the staff and alway generally attentive and pleasant. We eat here often as we live around the cornerand highly recommend the full English breakfast. However this trip, all 3 of us had Fish and Chips for lunch. We each had 5 (yes, five!!) chips on our plate. They were slightly chunky but all together wouldn’t have been more than one potato’s-worth!! We all team lees about this. Potatoes aren’t, generally, expensive and it wouldn’t have cost too much to put a few more. Especially for £18!!! We hope the restaurant will consider this as we wouldn’t want to take our weekly customer elsewhere but I do think that such a. Small serving for £18 isn’t justified. The fish, by the way, was very nice!!

Had booked a breakfast never been before. We were both surprised at the platter served on a wooden platter. Bacon sausage tomato fried egg and mushroom. Also most amazing large slice of milk loaf best breakfast I’ve had in ages as usually font don’t do cooked. Would highly recommend a visit even if not going in as we did to Yorkshire sculpture park. Said bacon sausages snd eggs all sourced locally and bread daily from baltazens independent bakers in Harrogate. Will go again if in area.

Friendly service. Clean & welcoming

Food was lovely. But been three times now and it just wasn't very warm at all. Big shame. Had the breakfast on the board and was told maybe that was the reason so last time asked for it on a hot plate but unfortunately this made no difference.

Six of us met here for brunch en route to the National Coal Mining Museum. I have often stopped here in the past for a coffee and loo break en route to Huddersfield & sometimes service can be slow but on this occasion it was super-efficient and friendly, despite the place being busy. We had a variety of dishes between us, from granola to sausage butties to the breakfast board. The granola could have done with more yogurt but apart from that it was all good. The sausages and bacon were a universal hit - they used top quality butchers' products. The popularity of the Weston has to be its design - it's on the Scandi model - huge windows, lots of light and natural wood, overlooking the park. On a dull day in winter, it's cosy, on a sunny day - perfect. The loos have been made fully unisex since my previous visit, I noticed.

A delicious breakfast with first class presentation and excellent customer service ! We enjoyed eggs Benedict and poached eggs and mushrooms with tarragon and hollandaise on rye accompanied by two americano coffees. The setting is superb and the modern stylish restaurant delightfully airy.

My lasagne was just about warm. I thought the food expensive for what it was.

Great hot well cooked food and very friendly staff. Highly recommend a visit, a great way to start your day off before walking the sculpture park.

We’ve been here many times. The atmosphere is second to none, the food is lovely and of very good quality (not cheap though) but the service is not up to the same standards. Nothing bad happened, but I think they must struggle to hire professional waiters, so they have to rely on local, middle class kids (nothing wrong with that) who don’t seem to have a guest-centric mindset. One example of many; asked for the drinks to come with the food, but not before. The waitress’ eyes rolled all the way to the back of her head (!) Other than that, lovely lovely place.

Good service, lovely food and large windows to enjoy the view

Love this place! Not an extensive menu and the portions aren't massive, but everything is really tasty and well presented. With really nice staff and a setting overlooking the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the Weston is highly recommended.

Cracking breakfast board and coffee this morning. Cooked fresh probably the best tomatoes and mushrooms I've had in a while. Polite and efficient service. Relaxed atmosphere a delight to dine in. Staff explained our vouchers and range of food and drinks. Highly recommended,will visit again.

We booked a table for lunch with friends and were glad we did because it was quite busy for a Thursday. The service is attentive and friendly, the menu is varied and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. Despite most tables being occupied, we could hear ourselves talk without any difficulty which is a refreshing change. The food is plentiful and excellent but not cheap, with sides being extra. But, if it's good then you don't mind paying a bit extra. And there are lighter, and cheaper, choices if you don't want the full lunch. The set menu is good value, with tea or coffee included. The Weston is a lovely building and well-appointed. The free and ample parking space could do with some attention as it's potholes were numerous. A good venue for great food and service.

Such a beautifully appointed spot. The restaurant is light and lovely. The service is impeccable - welcoming, friendly and attentive. The menu is varied, interesting and delicious.

Lovely food and ambience. The service is friendly but not particularly quick so make sure you allow time to enjoy. Portion sizes are light lunch rather than main meal but perfect for what we wanted

We visited The Weston with friends and their young children. It was really convenient as it has a separate car park to the main Yorkshire Sculpture Park area. From the restaurant you can access the main park as there is a kiosk for tickets.

We had the two course lunch. Very reasonably priced. Food was excellent , Service great very friendly staff. The building is stunning with lots of outdoor seating with a stunning view of the Yorkshire sculpture park . Will return soon. I'd advise booking but we walked in today and got a table .

An unexpected treat , headed out to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park , and decided to try the Weston, our selections were from the Winter Set Menu, for starters we both had, Chicken Caesar Salad with Parmesan, anchovies, crouton and for mains we had a Seared Bass Fillet with Tempura broccoli, caramel chilli soy, and ginger crisps ; and a Cauliflower Katsu with Sticky jasmine rice, pink ginger, and almond flakes. The food was fabulous, I would claim it was gourmet quality at a very reasonably price, I have paid far more for disappointing food, but dining out is also about the service which was attentive discreet and welcoming. All of this combined for an amazing atmosphere. I can not recommend this small restaurant highly enough, it is amazing.

Great food and drinks in a great space and locating.

The food was incredible, the service was very efficient (thank you Elena) and the surroundings were airy, comfortable and relaxing. We wouldn't hesitate on going there again, in fact we are planning to do so very soon.

Great food, service and surroundings and excellent value for money. Easy parking and a nice way to finish off a tour of the fabulous YSP. Drinks menu good too. Thoroughly enjoyed the set Winter menu with chicken Caesar salad starter, sea bass and ginger/marmalade cream pudding, together with a bramble gin cocktail.

Visited the Weston a few times now - a few times for breakfast and a few times for lunch. The food is consistently amazing. The chicken caesar I had on my last visit was the best chicken caesar I've ever had. The presentation is impeccable. The atmosphere is chilled, the surroundings are beautiful and it's always a bonus to walk around the sculpture park afterwards. Great coffee too. A must try!

My wife & I ( who is gluten intolerent) attended for a special Valentines Evening. The food for both of us was quite excellent. If we had been in one of the best restaurants in London, I don't think it could have been better. Could not recommend it more highly. Sir Rodney Walker

Took 20 mins to come over to place an order (after asking). Despite ordering three drinks, only one came and had to ask again for the others. When it came it wasn’t presented like the other identical one ordered. Might have just been a busy time for the staff. Drinks were average. Was just a little disappointed as we love Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

I’d booked a ticket for the YSP and decided to pop into The Weston on spec, on my way around the park. Although it was almost fully booked the lovely, friendly staff managed to accommodate me with no bother. I ordered the salmon dish and it was cooked and presented beautifully. Despite the restaurant being full I didn’t have to wait for my food either. The restaurant aesthetic fits very nicely with the surrounding parkland and it was a pleasant, relaxing lunch. Very good value for the quality of the food and the service. A revisit is on the cards… but next time I’ll reserve a table.

We went for lunch today and we were not disappointed. Fabulous food and drinks at a good price. This place would shame many restaurants in the surrounding area. Service was very good and prompt. Looking at the other dishes that were coming out of the kitchen i dont think we would have been disappointed no matter what we ordered. We will definitely be going back.

Quite expensive for the average person although the eggs bendict was good. Too much hollandaise sauce for me.

My only grumble ever is that there are too many egg dishes on the morning and light lunch menus, or it could be that extra alternative ones are needed….

Lunch meet up at the YSP with relatives. Lovely location. Brunch menu had limited choice - some group members are vegan & no complete vegan options available. Also like much of the interiors of YSP - the restaurant is dog unfriendly - frustrating when compared to similar alternative park based eateries.

Excellent service and superb food. The slow cooke shin beef and onion has was ideal on a cold day,with a side of root mash.Finished off with a mocha and delicious, warm mince pie.

Great coffee, we didn't eat today but I have on the past and the food is decent and good value. What I really want to highlight is the Jonathan Baldock exhibition, absolutely superb, completely immersive, beautiful,, skilled and challenging.

We visit the Weston regularly as couples but also with our family, the quality of the food is always excellent we have never had a bad experience, the service is outstanding and all the staff are very professional and polite and courteous. It is local...

The food and service was great. We were served by Oscar who was very helpful and friendly.

Have been here a few times. The food has been delicious every time. The setting, looking out on Yorkshire Sculpture park, is great. The service is efficient but there is no sense of being rushed. Very popular for breakfast and lunch. It's not near anything - so the fact that it is always busying is a testament to how good it is.

Aside from the superb view, the service is great and I always look forward to a cream scone and coffee. Both of which are top quality. The staff are always very polite and the fresh flowers are a really nice touch. Keeps us coming back.

A fabulously unexpected gourmet lunch at a very reasonably price. The watercress and bean summer soup was amazing and the warm chocolate brownie arrived lighter than a normal brownie and was accompanied by a vanilla ice cream - all to die for! We returned today...

Lovely scenery, friendly staff and tasty food. Husband had the sausage sandwich which came with 3 sausages, seemed very good value for money at around £5.50 whereas the coffee seemed expensive at £4 for a flat white, tasted good though and cost evened out between the two so didn't mind.

Just home from an evening with Omar Foster (Masterchef finalist) at The Weston. What a triumph. Absolutely exquisite food, fantastic service from The Weston staff team and a genuinely lovely atmosphere all evening. Thrilled to have been lucky enough to join this exclusive event. Wow....
