I stopped over at this little cafe in between connecting trains that were delayed - It’s a 6 minute walk from the station. They only take cash so make sure to get some out, however, when I didn’t have enough cash on me to buy a drink they gave it me for free and said to pay next time. When I said I don’t live here and am only stopping over they said please take it anyway as a small gift. As other people came and left they chatted with every customer and made them all smile. Very generous and kind service. Had to leave a review !

Poor time management- food arrived 1 hour plus after order was placed, cold uncooked food, menu on website does not match what is given in cafe, repeatedly having to ask for sauces/sweetner. The young lady mentioned to put in a complaint with the manager as clearly she was not able to handle the pressure of cooking three breakfasts and mentioned a number of times that she was on her own. Photo attached was my poached eggs- lady mentioned she doesn't eat eggs and believed that is how they suppose to be. The lady mentioned that she will give us a refund as she knew we wasn't happy with the food she served me. On the bright side- good chai latte which I complimented her about, but was obviously cross and said that it's just the powder. Do not recommend.

We passed this cafe many times before we went in. It's on the way to the station and not so close to the main shopping area as the 'chain coffee shops'. However, it's worth making a detour. The premises are lovely, comfortable seating and not too close to other people. Friendly hostess and good menu. The coffee is superb. As for the cakes... I don't even like cake yet I find the ones here irresistible. I'm going to recommend this place to all my friends.

I've visited the Summer House for both beers and food at various occasions and it does both brilliantly. Most recently, a visit with my wife at 5pm on a Thursday, we'd booked a table in advance as it does get busy. This proved to be well advised as on arrival, many of the tables were reserved. The food here is delicious, the service quick - no sooner had we ordered, our starter of poppadums had arrived, no sooner had we finished that the main was with us. Staff are polite and friendly, and will accommodate - for example I wanted to try the chicken tikka masala but I'm a fan of spice, on request they upped the heat of my meal which gave it the kick I enjoy. The Tikka Masala was sweet and filling; a change from the Chicken Madras (also delicious) that I'd usually have. The garlic and coriander naan was perfect for mopping up the sauce. Alongside the amazing food, the Summer House have a good range of cask ale, including Enville Ale, St Austell's Proper Job and Wye Valley's HPA and Butty Bach. You are guaranteed a good pint here, the Summer House is in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide 2025 and has had ale in great condition available for many years. I had the Proper Job which goes well with a curry! Price-wise, food at the Summer House is affordable. We're making this a regular recently.
