The best fish & chips. And lovely people. 😊 (PS Ignore incorrect comment in one of the ratings below. Current Food Hygiene rating is 3 'Satisfactory')

I had a burger here last Saturday evening.It gave me stomach cramps followed by diarrhoea.I won't be having another one that's for sure.

Was going to order from here but after seeing this I think I will give it a miss, only 1 star rating because anyone who doesn't take food safety and hygeine seriously of the public and paying customers should be named and shamed!

Not from the area but chose to eat from here due to good review. Right choice. We placed a very large order in shop and they cooked it fresh for us quickly, food was fantastic and portions were very generous. Wonderful staff who were very friendly. Thank you and highly recommended.

Food is lovely, just gutted tonight as I ordered from just eat and they forgot my curry sauce! The only reason I order from there is because I love their curry sauce 😞 Edit. Twice now they have forgotten my curry sauce. I'll take my business elsewhere from now on.

The food is good and ours was cooked freshly. Its average price for chip shops in the area and the staff are friendly and only to happy to help

You are always given a warm welcome, smashing atmosphere, very friendly, well organised & fantastic food.Can't speak any more highly of this chippy .Highly recommended

We treated our staff to a chippy lunch. Order was collected during the lunch period after calling it through. Lunch box deals were great value for money, fish was cooked to perfection, huge portions of chips all freshly cooked. Our team were very impressed and very content after lunch. Chips are proper chunky (nearing to wedges) and not your normal chippy but they were good. Portion sizes are good. Service was great.

Bought the pensioners special. It was terrible. The fish was very dry as if it had been reheated and the chips were soggy

We just finished eating our fish, chips & peas from our first visit....omg...just found bliss...huge, properly cooked chips, delicious peas & the fish...not soggy grotty batter to scrape away, delicious, flavoursome fish with fantastic batter, lovely & crispy. Brilliant, lovely staff...u have to try it here, 100 out of 10...well done!!! We'll be back 😋😋😋😋

Delicious food served with a smile. Lovely people with great banter and service. The type of shop that gives the area a sense of community and pride. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

I don’t live locally around here but am in the area a couple of times a month , Iv used them quite a few times now over the last 9months and every time has been as good as the last , so very consistent with the quality. The staff / workers are always so friendly and helpful always greet you happy with a smile

Very busy Friday night, friendly staff who seemed to know many of the customers. Cash only, chips thick cut and well cooked.

Just had the most amazing fish and chips. Cod was so tasty. Chips, mushy peas, curry sauce and a pickled onion. All perfect. Absolute throwback Saturday. Loved it. Lovely people at the shop as well.

Amazing as always, feels like family the minute you walk in, fish is fresh and crispy chips cooked to perfection. Never disappointed always great big portions and wonderful service.

We just laughed at the pita from here. A bag of onions and lettuce in a mayo factory spillage with some flakey halloumi if you searched for it. No more orders obviously, photos say why.

Ordered for the first time, delivered on time and the driver was polite but the food was awful. The fish was tough inside and the batter was a soggy mush, chips were soggy and the curry sauce had doughy lumps in it. It’s also impossible to get through on the phone to try and get your money back. I’ll update if the service improves.

This is my first time cod and chips , Delicious and tasty preparation of cod , chips are excellent.value for money , size of the cod and quantity of the chips. Would not hesitate in recommending Birchfield fish bar to all my friends . The cod was not oily like other fish and chips outlets. This is now going to be my famous fish and chips shop

We have had fish and chips from here before and it was good, however, yesterday we purchase two cod and chips and it was terrible. The batter tasted horrible and looked over cooked and it was luke warm, perhaps was sitting there for a long time. The chips were luke warm too. Very dissapointed at the quallity, not sure that l would go there again, especially after paying £18.25 for this food.

I ordered food tonight from here and there was a hair in my Donna kebab meat and it was not my hair because it was a black hair and my hair is not black and it put me straight of my food but seeing a hair in your food that you just ordered and payed for and that you can’t eat it is disgusting and that is bad hygiene they should be wearing hair nets but their not , I will never order from them again absolutely turns my guts

The quality of the Fish & Chips we collected today at lunch time were sadly poor quality, Chips were tiny bits/chunks and cold when we began to eat and the fish while tasting fresh was coated in a badly made, soggy and discoloured batter. Curry sauce was lumpy and tasteless. Maybe just bad luck today.

A good indication of how good the food is the number of returning customers. The staff calling folk by their name tells me many are repeat customers. I don't live near this chippy but will go out of my way to visit as I know I will be getting what I consider to be the best fish and chips in Northampton.

Well, this was pretty poor in all honestly. We ordered at 19:20 via just eat. This chip shop is a five min drive away. Delivery arrived at 21:25!!! I rang shop twice and to be fair the lady was very apologetic and sounded very nice- just busy and confirmed they were short staffed (not exactly ideal on a Friday evening!) Delivery driver was also very pleasant and apologised for delay. Food was not good! Scampi was the worst I’ve EVER eaten and that includes the frozen stuff I buy from co op! Halloumi fries like rubber. Fish was passable. The kids meals were actually ok, but unfortunately the doughnuts, sweets and lolly’s do not anywhere near make up for the lack of actual cooked food quality. Needless to say - Won’t be ordering again.

Ripped my 75 yr old brother off twice and when I rang about food missing I was called a liar dirty horrible people should be ashamed of there selves if you have a delivery check food before driver leaves your door

Ok but not quick service as everything seems to be cooked to order. Long queues outside the shop meant finding somewhere else to go recently. Also only take cash even during the Covid pandemic

Would like to thank the staff of the Birchfield Fish Bar for the superb customer we received on 20th February. Despite there being an issue with our Just Eat order, the staff sorted it out without any issues. We still received our order in excellent time and it was delicious! Not to mention the couple of extra items that were included free of charge, which were very welcome indeed!

Amazing fish and chips, so tasty and crispy. Portion sizes are so generous, always delivered on time. Will never go to another chippy in Northampton!

I HAVE PURCHASED FOOD FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT MANY MANY TIMES HOWEVER NOT FOR A FEW MONTHS I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THAT PRICES RISE BUT WAS TOTALLY SHOCKED AT THE PRICE AND SIZE OF OUR COD WE ORDERED. Used to be great, following tonight's decable will not be ordering again. Cold and very late, called to speak to someone about a refund and they refused to speak to me as too busy!! If I wanted mashed potato instead of chips I would made them myself.

A really good fish and chip shop. The food is cooked while you wait rather than kept warm but well worth it. Very clean and good hygiene rating. Last time I had the biggest piece of haddock I'd ever seen, and really well cooked. You only need regular chips with one of these. Friendly and chatty staff. My favourite chippy at the moment.

I can not recommended Birchfield Fish Bar enough. All the food is excellent and freshly cooked, and the Greek salad is wonderful. The service and delivery is second to none accompanied by extremely friendly people. It's a credit to Maria, Paul, family and staff.

Every time, perfect battered cod and perfect chips, delivered hot enough to eat straight away, our new go-to chip shop, communications are brilliant and staff are very friendly, and always a free sweet treat in the bag, donuts are very appreciated :) Would definitely recommend this fish bar, no complaints whatsoever, just brilliant service and food :)

calamari was chewy and extremely disappointing, I ordered a spam fritter and got something potato based covered in crumbs. Would not order again on a plus point the dips were as expected

Two cod and chips, 1 mushy peas £17.05. Thought it a bit expensive. Not too much taste either.

We enjoy to go out. Last night we found this superb restaurant which we didn’t know before. We had a delightful time there with very good cooking and a courteous stuff and an impressive cuisine. We added this place in our list and we will certainly visit again soon. We deeply recommend.

Maria and Paul have put their heart into their chippy and it shows. Nothing is too much trouble, or effort, if anything ever is wrong, they go out their way to amend it. Their "fat chips" as my daughter fondly asks for are unlike any other in Northampton and the Halloumi is to die for! Constantly great food keeps us coming back time after time. A takeaway is a special treat for us and it's definatly a treat for the tastebuds.

This is our first and only takeaway during the lockdown, we decided to support a local small business and chose the chippy at the top of our street. Orders and payment are taken outside then the food is brought out already wrapped. We were disappointed with our food once we unwrapped it at home. In addition to several other items two large pieces of cod were ordered one piece being about the size of a fish finger. Would not return to Birchfield Fish Bar again
