Billy's on the Beach in Chichester

Nice meals. Overlooking the beach. Meals in takeaway containers with lids which is just as well as gulls are hovering in hopes of a free meal.

This place was a wonderful find! I have Coeliac so can’t eat gluten. We came across Billy’s by chance and that had loads of options for me. Situated right on the beach, there was a great vibe in the restaurant, topped off with some lovely staff. I will be going there again for sure!

We're local to the area and came as we had heard good things. Sadly that wasn't the case. The place on the day was run by two young people. Drinks orders were incorrect. My partner's gin had no garnish and had to open the tonic herself with a bottle opener. The starters were quite good. Calamari, cod cheeks and the fish tacos. I thought things were looking up. We both ordered the red mullet for mains which was supposed to come with grilled Mediterranean veg and roasted chips. It turned up with salad and the fish sat on a bed of fried chips which looked to have been sat in the fryer for a while. This meal was £20! The fish was small and I had to eat the chips just to feel full. All in all a poor show that set me back £80... the sea views are terrific so why not capitalise on this and go more high end?

Had a great lunch here today the cod cheeks are excellent as was the prawn curry. You need to book by 1pm it was packed.

We arrived at 4.00pm and were told no food kitchen closed drinks only. Very disappointed.

What a great find, welcomed by a helpful gentleman and got a table with a sea view. The staff were all friendly and chatty. The freshly squeezed orange juice hit the spot, followed by a delicious, well cooked, served on a hot plate veggie breakfast. My mum had the potato dish with bacon n sausages, unfortunately it was described as potato slices but was actually broken hash browns but full of bacon and sausage with very well cooked poached eggs. A mum and kids group where there, one child constantly whinning and not addressed by mother which continued for most of our meal, until the traffic warden arrived and the mums left, the childs noise ruined the ambience for us and people around us who were also commenting. Would go back

Nice place but if you are coming on a weekend you will need a reservation. Its right by the beach however so you can get a takeaway away easily enough

Disappointed, poor customer service

Always busy. The food is great with friendly service. It's basically a hut on the beach but well worth the visit. Dropped in for a take away coffee today. Not available (after taking the order). Unimpressed.

Mi esposa y yo hemos estado en Billy's en la playa muchas veces y nunca hemos tenido una queja con el personal o la comida, siempre excelente, sin embargo este viaje no fue el esperado. En positivo, el viento soplaba y hacía un poco de frío, así que cuando nos ofrecieron una mesa de 2 asientos cerca de la entrada que tenía la puerta abierta de par en par, pedimos otra mesa y nos proporcionaron una mesa de 4 asientos más hacia el otro extremo del restaurante, sin embargo, era obvio que la mesa había sido limpiada, pero, todavía había zonas pegajosas que necesitaban una mejor limpieza. Cuando se nos proporcionó el menú preguntamos cuáles eran los especiales, solo para ser informados de que no estaban haciendo especiales durante el día festivo. Luego, cuando pedimos bebidas, no tenían un menú de bebidas Mi esposa tenía entrante de calamar, todo bien allí, yo tenía los pasteles de cangrejo, bueno eran más como empanadas de cangrejo que pasteles, pero, eran agradables y sin duda tuvo una patada. Plato principal, fui a por los mejillones que estaban muy amplios y bien cocinados, mi esposa fue a por el pastel de pescado, después de preguntar qué pescado había en él, para ser informado de que había ahumado eglefino, bacalao, salmón y langostinos, por desgracia había algunos cubos de algunos pescados y quizás algunos copos en con la patata que era la mayoría del plato. Cuando se recogieron los platos nos preguntaron cómo estaba la comida y cuando dije que no estábamos impresionados con el pastel de pescado, la respuesta fue: "lo siento, informaré al chef" Los desiertos, como siempre eran muy buenos. Cuando llegó el proyecto de ley no se mencionó ningún ajuste debido al pastel de pescado. No estoy seguro de si el propietario ha cambiado o simplemente que el personal no estaba en su juego, 1 frente a la casa y esperando, 1 mesas de limpieza y servir y 1 haciendo las bebidas. No estoy seguro de si vamos a volver con prisa, lo cual es una pena, ya que nos encanta la vista desde el aparcamiento y como se ha dicho, siempre hemos tenido una gran experiencia.

Visited on Mother's Day for breakfast. The place was absolutely packed! However, the service was excellent and so was the breakfast. Decent prices with decent portion sizes. A good selection of food and drink. Higely recommend this place and will definitely return.

Having been to Billy's on the Beach on a no of occasions in the past,our experience this evening was very disappointing.Mynwife and I chose to have the Fish Pie,the cheesy topping on top of the mash made it difficult to act

Estábamos muy decepcionados con nuestra comida de esta noche. Hace dos años era impresionante, carta de pescado muy extensa con un ambiente encantador y servicio. Sin embargo, la experiencia de esta noche fue muy diferente. Un menú muy condensado y Si quieres pescado rebozado entonces está bien, pero nada más especial. Todos hemos salido muy decepcionados.

Came here for lunch had not booked - which I would recommend as was really busy - but the gentleman at the front, (sorry did not get his name) was able to find us a table pretty quickly. The food was great, I had the crab cakes as a main with a side salad. They were homemade and amazing, the best I have had. My husband had the rump steak burger which he said was delicious. I also had a pudding - the chocolate and cherry bread pudding, again very tasty. The service was very good and even though they were very busy while they were in there they were very polite and friendly to all the customers. The gentleman at the front was brilliant and worked the room really well, ensuring tables cleared quickly for incoming customers. Billy's is right near the beach and has outside seating which would be amazing in the warmer weather, although people were sitting outside on this day even though it was not very warm. Would highly recommend this eatery for anyone visiting the area. We will definitely be back again.

We came here on a Monday afternoon for lunch. The staff were excellent and food was delicious, I would very much recommend!

Fish and chips. El pescado no se cocinaba bien, la temperatura del aceite era incorrecta, el aceite sucio. Nunca debería haber sido enviado, pero tristemente fue y tristemente a un chef profesional. Absolutamente lleno de grasa. Muy pobre e inaceptable. Me di cuenta a los pocos segundos de llegar y lo revisé y de ninguna manera me lo estaba comiendo, me pospuso pedir un reemplazo o cualquier otra cosa, perdí la fe en ellos tristemente. Más molesto fue que mi mesa pasó unas 40 veces frente al personal de la casa que no pudo ver a un cliente claramente no comiendo, pero nadie preguntó. Solía ser excelente y solo puedo asumir que el chef ha cambiado, lástima, ya que me encantó allí, pero eso es 2 comidas seguidas ahora que no ha estado a la altura

Got to Billy's for 3.05pm and was told no food is being served i asked why and was told we just aren't serving food right now. I couldnt get a reason why. I was curious because especially on a saturday they are open to until 9pm so it seemed wierd. I couldn't see anywhere on the website, signs at the actual restaurant, on their FB page any mention of this had that been the case I would not have driven 45 minutes for a love beach front meal. So had a choice of cake or cake. In the end just had a diet coke, paid and left. I will not be going back again. Left feeling very disappointed, frustrated and hungry. I will tell all my friends and fellow travellers not to go here.

Really enjoyed the mussels here. The service was excellent and though some of the other dishes were not quite to our taste due to the flavours, the experience was great. The location is right by the beach and vibe is very relaxed and friendly. Quite a nice range of seafood options on the menu. Child and dog friendly.

From the moment we stepped in and were warmly greeted by Josh a very welcoming young man who straight away made us feel valued. He explained we had arrived on Friday fish supper night and the special offer of fish & chips with a glass of wine for £18’50 was a nice surprise. The service was excellent, the fish & chips with crispy batter, mushy peas , chips and a fresh side salad presented so nice on the plate. We arrived as the sun was just setting. It was beautiful. The whole atmosphere at Billy’s on the Beach is just so nice, we will definitely go back again. Thankyou to our host Josh who made our evening so enjoyable.

This is our go to places for lunch whenever we come to visit family! The view from your table is beautiful, especially on a sunny day :) I highly recommend the Bailey’s dessert, it’s delicious! Josh was our lovely waiter, very accommodating and friendly. We brought our dog and the ones we were looking after and he came over to meet them and tell us about his lovely dogs. Due to half term there was a delay in the food but the staff gave us free crisps and free drinks, we didn’t even complain they were just very accommodating :) I can’t wait to go back, I need to try all their desserts x

Front of house service was interesting to say the least. Ordered breakfast with cherry tomatoes and got two huge tomatoes cut up instead. Ordered Avo on toast but it was bread on bread. Shame but still edible. Location saves this place!

We found Billy‘s on our little weekend away and the entire experience could not have been more positive. The café itself was very cool with a fabulous buzzing atmosphere. The staff could not have been friendlier or more attentive in a laid-back way and the food was exquisite. I actually wish I didn’t live in Brighton because I’d like to go every week. My girlfriend said her fish and chips were the best she’s ever had and she’s a northerner so she knows a thing or two about fish and chips and I had the burger which was incredible with the most delicious coleslaw. This place is top-notch and we will be planning the weekend away just so we can come back. Thank you to Everybody. Oh and dog friendly too…bonus

Had lunch here after a chilly beach walk and it couldn't have been better. Delicious food, warm and cosy with a log burner warming us up gently in the corner. Staff were fantastic. Absolutely fab place to stop

A surprising gem. It doesn't have a wide menu but does what it does exceptionally well. Portions are generous. Staff helpful and polite. I would go out of my way to eat there again. Be sure to book to avoid disappointment. Highly recommended.

Great place on the beach front. Food and drink good. Better in the winter as mobbed in the summer and difficult to park. I never give 5's as always room for improvement, but I would recommend.

Genuinely the worst professionally-made food I've ever had. Was staying nearby with friends and decided to order and collect from this place for tea. Mainly fish and chips, but I had the chicken burger and chips. Fried to a crisp inside and out would be an understatement. Burnt to a crisp - had a real effort to try to rip into the burger to take a bite. There should be some moisture in a chicken burger but there was none. There's not much to be done about that really. It's a bad experience but it's not like it's a cheap place where bad things happen, it was £16! And the annoying thing is that it's not a mistake. Poor food can happen for various reasons. But if you're putting a dry, hard, and burnt chicken breast into a bun you're pretty much doing it on purpose, and it's bad faith and dishonest.

I think one thing to get out the way is that this isn’t a fish and chips shop. More of a sit down cafe/lunch spot! Great location though and it’s very cute. The staff were great whenever I’ve been.

Great location, always enjoy really good service but my last meal was average and a long wait for it. No toilet in the cafe just use of a grim public toilet next door.

Very average food,not worth the money

Had their “Christmas menu” which was poor - seemed like mostly reheated leftovers from the day before; all pretty dry and the pigs in blankets were like bullets. Not worth the money..

Interesting menu, great food and great service.

Given the location and incredibly high price (£15 for a burger and chips, 42 for a seafood platter) you’d at the very least expect fresh local fish, yet the prawns and whitebait had clearly just come right out of a freezer bag. The prawns tasted like how the inside of a BNQ smells and the white bait (which was a special) was bland and a bit odd. Frozen white fish is forgivable, yet with seafood at that price point it’s incredibly disappointing, especially with a special. It’s a shame, looking at the menu we were really exited and yet at the end of the day it was all incredibly bland, and everything tasted like it had come straight out of a bag. I really dislike places like this that pretend they’re something they’re not and then charge you an exorbitant amount for harvester quality food.

Brilliant place at East Wittering overlooking the water, very busy serving freshly cooked food for sundsy brunch and I noticed open in the evenings on select days. Quite a find!

Just the loveliest service in light and airy restaurant with amazing sea views and fresh, delicious fish and chips.

A very tasty breakfast, great coffee, friendly service and a wonderful view out to sea. Definitely a place to enjoy a relaxing meal and drink. A large car park is right next door. Free parking if you're on a motorbike.

Went here on a Sunday afternoon with quite a few kids in tow. Staff were immensely helpful and patient. They couldn't have done enough for us. Food was great, especially the fish pie. Kids portions were big too. Excellent

Waited a couple of hours for them to open for a takeaway and told we are not doing takeaway only eat in as we are to busy! Walked outside to see a waitress handing a takeaway to a couple. I spoke with the waitress she said yes we do takeaways! Keep clear obviously only interested when they are not busy! Shame on you, all six of us won’t be using you again.The chap we spoke to inside needs to go and have his customer service skills tuned up he was extremely rude, apparently it was the owner of the business😡

Nice place for a drink, snack or meal. Had a nice coffee on the patio with a friend. Service was good and the food looked really good...I was jealous of those enjoying their meals 😁

Fantastic location. Staff are lovely and friendly, but the past few times I have been, they seem to be unsure of the menu, or get it wrong. It could be because there new or a menu change, but either way it has happend a few times. Personally I really like it, and would love it to be open later.

Great spot down on the beach. We only stopped in for takeaway coffee as we didn’t realise we’d need to book, however the staff were really friendly, bright and welcoming and clearly understood how to give good customer service, even during a fleeting visit. The coffee was great too. I eyed up some of the food while we were standing at the till and it looked really good. We’ll definitely come back… and book a table next time!

Great place tucked away, super attentive staff, simple yet delicious menu and great views.

There were issues, my all day breakfast was way overcooked, I expect everything had been under the lights for hours so the toms, the sausages, the bacon were not the greatest. My friends fish was smelling of ammonia so that got sent back immediately and a burger ordered as a replacement but that turned up overcooked on the outside and basically raw and cold on the inside so that got sent back too. The same burger came back cremated so not a great day for the kitchen.

Ordered the chipotle chorizo and prawn fritters which were a decent starter. However the fish and chips were very bland so ultimately the fish was inedible even with tartare sauce. However the moules frites were very good.

Great location and views. Staff are nice, but the food is mediocre and expensive. I use the term mediocre, as the reviews from our party differed from one person to the next. Some enjoyed their choice, and some didn't. The fish and chips were awful. You do get a choice of skinny and chunky chips, both from frozen, so go with your preference. I would have preferred proper chips from potatoes, but not on offer. As already mentioned, some of the food was well received, and I can only comment on mine. Regardless, it was overpriced!

We sat outside, admittedly on a busy day and the selection was limited and the time for food to be ready was a bit long. It was amusing watching people be pestered by the gulls though, lunch and a show!

Great little place which is a restaurant at night and cafe by day. Car park was £2.70 for two hours..loos and right on beach. No overnight stays. I had a child's portion of fish n chips which was lovely and enough for me..£5.50. Think full one was £16ish. Filled up my big water bottle too at the dog bowl station just by Cafe. Defo visit again 🙂

30/8/24 Stayed in Bracklesham Bay and as this was 5 minutes down the road decided to have dinner at Billy’s one night. I had fish and chips with mushy peas. Only moan I have is that the peas were minted, and I’m not a fan of them. Cost was £15.95. The fish was cooked really well with plenty of crispy batter. Fries were excellent and I preferred these to the chunky chips that were on offer. It is a small place and they squeeze you in which made it quite warm in the room even with the door/windows open. I’ve taken a star off of the service due to the fact that I felt we were being rushed to have our meal. The only booking time left was 8pm on the Friday, and it closes at 9pm. Just felt that some of the staff wanted us out as quickly as possible!! Above all though I liked it there, they have a decent menu to choose from and would go back again.
