We are familiar with BW’s beach cafe since it opened, but only for coffee. However it started marketing itself as a more upmarket eatery. Well, their branding maybe good but this has highlighted it’s all publicity that is not delivering ! Where do I start ? During our visit they were busy but service was slow, and staff lacked training. Food was poor, served on cardboard plates + wooden cutlery, probably because we are on the beach 😊. Being served with poor Fish + Chips, we should have gone to Daniel’s superb quality F&C takeaway up in Wyke and eaten it on the beach. We think Billy Winters needs to pull its socks up, they have a dream location with car park so all they have to is serve up decent food & service, and we will return !

Great location and fast service but food overpriced for what is delivered. There was hardly anything on the menu when I was there; I went for the pulled meat burrito. There was almost no meat in it more like a salad burrito; flavour was good but misleading and £9.50 is a lot for a salad wrap. Shame.

We stay in Weymouth/portland a few times a year and always try and eat here. We have eaten as a couple and as a family and it is always a good experience. The food is lovely, the atmosphere is lovely and so are the staff. The view being on the beach is good too and it keeps the kids occupied as they can play on the stones too. It’s just a shame we aren’t closer as we would visit more often 👍👍👍

Lovely location when it’s good weather. Relaxed and fun atmosphere. Service was good and attentive and friendly. Sadly portion sizes were meagre. Two of us had the spicy monkfish nachos. They were tasty but very very small portions. They were £20 and not worth that at all.

Unbelievable location and views gives this place great vibes and relaxation. A great place to eat and take in the views. Great for families, couples, friends or those with furry family members. A low-key sister to Crab House Cafe. You’ll find fresh fish dishes here at a more reasonable price. Wish we’d had room for the cakes on display! Mackerel Caesar salad and skin on chips were delicious. Would have given five stars, but the guy in charge came across as customers being an irritant so didn’t feel wholly welcomed. Rest of staff were lovely.

Billy Winters in Weymouth boasts a funky and fun decor that adds to its charm. However, when it comes to the food, it falls short of expectations. While the dishes are decent, they lack the wow factor that makes them memorable. Moreover, the portion sizes don't quite justify the prices, especially considering the tourist-heavy clientele. For instance, paying £4.50 for a portion of chips should yield more than just a small handful. Overall, Billy Winters offers an okay dining experience but could improve on its value for money.

Visited yesterday for some lunch and ordered over the app, we were sitting outside and the app wouldn’t allow us to order to tables so we left a message on the order to say where we were sat. Drinks arrived promptly without issue. After waiting over an hour for food we asked how much longer it would be. We were told that there has been a lot of orders on the app so the kitchen was running behind. After 90 minutes, half the family (who did the same thing with a message on the app) received their food. We were still left waiting. I queried with the very hard working girl at the bar who did apologise and gave us free drinks, saying the pizzas were just being put in. Another 30 minutes and they still hadn’t arrived. My partner went inside and to find out what was happening to be told that the food went to the wrong table and just gave us a refund. Problem was we had two children who were really hungry after waiting 2 hours for their pizza. My mother in law then went in to ask if we could actually have some foods and after another 15 minutes the pizzas arrived. Fair enough we had one round of free drinks and we were refunded but it was more the issue of being told we weren’t getting the food and had to ask for a second time. In there defence, I believe the app was new and wasn’t working well and it was very busy, but I don’t think the issue was handled very well. Won’t be back Billy Winters.

Visited Billy’s after a Sunday morning stroll across the causeway from Portland. This bright clean restaurant has evolved from a ship container to have a large gazebo joined on. The food is delicious, local fish specialties with a twist … We’ll definitely be returning however I can image it’s packed out during summer months so visit while it’s out of season !

Had the Eggs Benedict and Bubble and Squeak just fabulous. You have to be prepared to eat with wooden cutlery though! Great for Gluten Free. Parking is limited but the service is quick so if you have to pay and display an hour should be enough. Seems a nice enough place but very busy. One member of staff was very curt with us when taking our order. We had been polite and had done nothing wrong. There was just no need for that kind of behaviour. It spoilt the meal for me. Our food was paid for before it arrived, which is just as well as it took ages to appear. One burger was coldish inside. Specials board not in evidence inside, which is a shame. Visited for the first time for drinks on Sunday evening and it was extremely busy inside & outside. Greeted and shown to a table fairly quickly. Waited 10 minutes for someone to take our orders and then another 45 minutes for the drinks to arrive. The ratio of staff to customers seriously needs addressing. The staff were friendly but seemed overstretched and stressed out racing around clearing tables and delivering orders inside and out. We felt sorry for them. Other people came in for food but didn’t wait as it was taking too long. The food we did see looked very nice so we will try it again but not on a weekend or bank holiday. The location is lovely overlooking the sea.

Visited Billy Winters at lunchtime - food was ok, all the chips were stone cold though. They are very quick to take your money and you have to pay immediately once you have ordered your food - bit odd. Waiter seemed in a rush to get our order in - last we saw of him. Service was really poor - not one member of staff came to check on us once the food had been delivered - so couldn’t notify anyone. I wasn’t offered any condiments either - just a bucket of cheap cutlery thrown down on the table- that just had vinegar in it. As soon as we stood up to leave - staff swarmed round the table to clear it. Poor show and won’t be going back.

We visited for lunch at midday and were lucky to get the last table under cover. Stunning location looking out across the bay. We found it hard to decide from all the tasty sounding options on the menu! We settled on the scallop po boy, squid burger and some oysters, which were all delicious. Great fresh seafood. The cakes inside looked amazing but we were too full for dessert on this occasion sadly! The only slight niggle for us was that they don't have any highchairs available, but if you don't have a small person with you that wouldn't be a problem!

The location 5 stars obviously. Service 5 stars – it is so much faster with table service than it was before when you had to queue. Food 3 stars. The sweet potato fries are delicious. The portion is decent, possibly on the small side. The salt and pepper squid rings are laughable. You get six squid rings on a bed of fries. Yes, the whole thing is delicious, but for £9.90, you most definitely need more squid.

The ambience was chilled this evening. Varied menu. W e simply opted for fish & chips which was served up hot in a cardboard boat, with wooden cutlery. The prices are modest. There is creativity & flair everywhere. Loved the fresh quirky style, whacky colourful candelabra. Somewhere a bit different with views to die for. We both enjoyed the food plus our hot chocolate. Went twice and had lunch both times. Squid rings and then loaded fries Squid rings were delicious and a good size portion. The loaded fries really weren’t that loaded and I struggled to find the BBQ pulled pork. Others had the ham/ egg and chips and I do think that was excellent value for money. (A small quibble was the eggs went cold very quickly as on the cold ham, probably better served on the chips). Hubby loved the chorizo burger and ordered fries to go with it. The crab on brioche was tasty but a very small portion. The venue was very busy both times we went, as a party of 6, but the wait was very short. Seemed pretty COVID secure, with sanitiser on entry and NHS tracker. Some of the other guests seemed to struggle with no group bigger than 6 rules (I’m thinking about the older ladies book group of 7) and the staff dealt with this well. This gets 4 stars as you go for the whole experience; the venue has the best view and a very cool vibe. It doesn’t get 5 as sometimes the portions are on the small side and doesn’t always feel great value.

Visited on a gorgeous day mid September. Beautiful location on a pebble beach. We chose to eat under the marquee as it was late evening. Had warmth from the evening sun to our left and beautiful views of the bay to our right. And I guess for me that’s where my enthusiasm ended apart from a lovely local beer. I ordered Bombay potato wrap with Asian slaw and raita. The wrap was small, the Bombay potato filling hot n spicy just as expected, not enough raita to dip the wrap in and the Asian slaw was dire! A tablespoon of dry, sad, old red cabbage was it’s mainstay, other dry wilted veg were present in a minuscule proportion and NO flavour! Ok the slaw isn’t the mainstay but for me it should have been fresh and full of flavour. My husband ordered the pizza and to be fair he enjoyed it. However there is thin crust pizza and wafer thin pizza! So it was so insubstantial he had to go back and order another mains. Won’t be back!

Only had to wait about 10 mins for the food to arrive. I'm not sure if I would have been happy if the meal had been full price though as the portion was fairly small and didn't come with chips, they had to be paid for separately. So, as part of the scheme then it was great value but at normal prices then probably not. Lovely location though, that can't be beaten.

Don't be put off by the apparent lack of kerb appeal from the road, it belies the quality food and great views over Portland Harbour. This is a great stop off point for a bit of top notch "street food" whilst watching wind surfer acrobatics.-Enjoyed probably the best mackerel baps in Weymouth - perfectly cooked mackerel with a crispy crunchy coating, served in a sublime rustic ciabatta with finely sliced dill pickle and a token salad garnish on the side. Added sweet potato fries and home made slaw for a perfect mid walk munch, washed down with a refreshing cuppa.-Perfect stop off on a walk along the Rodwell Trail and across the causeway to Chesil Beach and Portland. We went on a Wednesday after walking across from Portland. It was very busy but we expected that so it was no surprise. We waited for an hour for food but we knew this was likely. The staff were running around trying to keep up with demand and doing a sterling job. It’s busy because it’s a popular place. Food is great and so is the view and it is not a fast food restaurant and doesn’t claim to be. Excited to have lunch at this funky place but what a disappointment! Beetroot burger texture was like microwaved hot mush ... lavished with too much mint sauce on a soggy bun. Reluctantly paid the bill which was definitely overpriced for what was served ... £4.50 for a milkshake! Couldn’t eat the burger it was really bad ..Place is good for a coffee and cake is about it

Start on a high - the decor and view are fab as was the chia tea. The staff I found to be rather unwelcoming and the food over priced. I will prob give a second try as I suspect (given other reviews) I cought them on a bad day but a bit of a friendlier approach would be appreciated.

Lovely place with amazing view. Had the squid burger, a little over cooked but tasty. The staff seemed a little less friendly than i expected for such a vibrant place.

A great little find. We went there for lunch, the food is excellent, great that you can take a dog in too, the views are amazing. The best Knickerbocker glory I've every had, worth sharing with someone as it's quite big.

Very nice. Always excellent. Usually very busy. But, be prepared to pay a little extra for top quality freshly prepared food, but given what you get it’s worth it. Top tip; order extras. Great location.

This is a lovely little place right by the beach with amazing views across to Portland and Weymouth. My husband and I had tea and red velvet cake which was delicious.

The staff are so friendly and the place is located right by the water with kite surfers and wind surfers so close. Food fantasticly delicious and you can even have cocktails. Sit outside or inside. Love it.

Such bad value for food. Nearly £9 for a salmon bagel! Views lovely and coffee nice but can’t justify eating at this place again.

Stopped here while on holiday in Portland and really loved the view. We sat outside in the sunshine with our dog and had drinks only this time. Very friendly staff and great views. The food looked amazing so we will definitely go back soon.

All good food wise. All good service wise. All good view wise. All good atmosphere wise. Just a little on the steep price for me (I am tight). Chimichanga (I think) x2. side of coleslaw. Side of sweet potato fries. 1 cider 1 lager £35 thank you kindly. Def worth a visit though. I feel younger and cooler now I've visited here!

Visited Billy Winters 3 times during our stay nearby, whilst the prices aren't cheap they are worth it for the view and our food was very quicky delivered, and very tasty, each time. Plus, a great place for my 5 year old daughter to people and dog watch.

My wife, daughter and I stopped off here enroute back from Portland for a light dinner and cocktails. The positives- great location on the beach and my daughter enjoyed playing on the beach whist the adults had cocktails which were fine. That's really where the positives end. The food was terrible and we had to return two of the dishes as they were inedible. Firstly the squid in batter- chewy is an understatement. It was akin to eating rubber. Secondly the pulled beef bap which smelt off and tasted foul. Even the nachos were lackluster. It's a real shame and im sure the place could be great if the execution was better.

Fish and chips at lunch time overlooking the beach. What could be nicer? Well - hot fish and chips for a start. We had to return our tepid food and ask for a fresh meal. This was greasy and distinctly overpriced. We live nearby, had looked forward to coming here for a while. We won't come again

Ordered a latte and bacon bap, surprised by the price (£8.20), this was 10.30 in the morning there were about 6 people sitting outside. I waited 20 minutes for the bacon bap to arrive, it was disgusting, the bap was hard, no butter, and I don’t think the bacon had actually seen a grill, it was raw, the friends I was with insisted I took it back, when it arrived for the second time it was not much better, I ended up leaving most of it, didn’t even attempt the bun. So disappointed and angry with myself as I only live up the road, so the time I waited for the food to arrive I could have probably gone home and made one myself!

Mixed reviews but we were desperate to find somewhere on a Sunday evening because we hadn’t booked. It was great. To please 5 of us in one meal is a big ask, but we loved everything. Great big fat juicy mussels, fab chips, pizza was really good, avocado and bacon salad just right for my carb-free husband. Interesting drinks. Very reasonable prices compared to some of the other local places. Staff pleasant and quirky, fun atmosphere in a great location.

We’ve been meaning to visit for ages, having been told about the place by friends. Some of whom love it, some hate it. I think it’s one of those marmite like places.

Went there for lunch and me and my friend decided on the king prawns with lime and chilli with chips and garlic bread for £18 . They were busy but it arrived about 45 min Later , the presentation was amazing , however the sauce was very very oily and tasteless .. the whole thing had no flavour , we were very disappointed. The chips were fab and so was the garlic bread . It was such a shame . Also we had no napkins or wet wipes given to us , so it was a messy eat , don’t know if I’d return and Im A local x

Went for Sunday Roast beef on 27/10/24 excellent. Loved the work they put into the exhibit in the garden for Halloween. Been going to the wishing well every time me & my wife visit Dorset. Staff are always so friendly.😍

Called in for lunch on a wet, miserable Sunday. Didn't intend having a full on roast but they looked so good we felt we should try them. We weren't disappointed. We went for the standard size ( you could have a small appetites one or a two meats one for less or more money) and I opted for beef whereas husband chose the pork. The meals came pretty quickly seeing as the place was full up. We hadn't booked but it seemed like many people do as lots of the tables had reserved signs on. Our meats were excellent and the plates piled high with veggies - cabbage, carrots, Swede and parsnips plus roast potatoes of course. Lots of all of them but they could've done with being a bit hotter (roast spuds were very hot but the other veg weren't). Husband had plenty of gravy on his pork but my meal was very dry, just a bit of gravy in the Yorkshire pudding, none on the rest of the plate which made it a bit of a struggle to get through. I'll be brave another time and ask nicely if I can please have some gravy but they were busy at this time so I didn't want to be a pain.
