Big Sam's in Rhondda Cynon Taf

Stopped outside on Saturday evening. When we saw the food being sold, we decided to pop in. I had fish n chips with an Irish curry. The fish was beautifully cooked and a very nice size with plenty of delicious chips the curry was gorgeous. My wife had pie n chips, it was also beautiful. Highly recommend a visit if your in the area.

£7 for 2 pieces of chicken and undercooked chips. RIP off

Fish and chips are good but staff did not know what a gluten free meal was and had to ask the manager. Manager said they do not offer gluten free foods here

Great service. I have moved to Southampton, but everytime I visit back I always pop back to big Sam’s. Fresh food, great variety and very friendly service.

So much more expensive than others. Large kebab £9....its £7 at pizza hot talbot green and far nicer. Same with fish n chip...scrumps better value

Wow, how refreshing. Not had Big Sam's in quite some time. But ordered today. Every element came separately wrapped, fish in its own box, chips in another. Not all squashed together, like you would get else where. Tasty and hot when delivered, staff friendly. Well done Big Sam's, much improved

Miss placed order and then refused to replaced or refund my order, said I did not know what I ordered, insulting

It was already overpriced and now they've bumped it up again. Chips are awful, pizza is thick and soggy, donna kebab is gross. It also takes well over an hour to be delivered locally.

If your hungry, your best off stopping in to Mc Donald’s on the way to visit Big sams , as what they served as a large kebab this evening was embarrassing. Which is a massive let down as we’ve always enjoyed they’re good , but even calling to question the food , we were told the manager made the meal so the portion size is what they call a large !

Used to be nice here but now very overpriced, nasty service and awful chips. The last time I go here, no wonder it was dead in there!

Always excellent food from big Sams. They do the best chips in the whole of the RCT. Lovely sausages, gravy and curry sauce is all excellent quality. Amazing kebabs. It can take a while though to get your food. I would cook off more food at busier times so chips and fish are always ready!

Wouldn't even entertain this place made a collection order for me to drive all the way there to find out they didn't even have any Donner meat and they had made me a chicken kebab how hard is it to tell somebody something so simple over the phone I suppose u pay peanuts u get monkeys!!!

The food has actually improved in recent times but service absolutely appalling… ordered 3 meals inc x2 fish n chips… order arrived only to find all the chips missing.. that’s fair enough mistakes happen rang to say, explained once then passed on to another staff member who was incredibly rude finally got to the point where they would bring the chips and yes they did arrive… 45mins later when the fish would be stone cold… very disappointing service!!!

Annoyed this time. Ordered again tonight and they've given a different pizza to what was described on the menu. Pepperoni lovers pizza apparently, there's sweetcorn and peppers in it randomly and no jalepinos

Ordered a pizza wish id paid extra 2 quid and get a dominos young man who served me was great but the older woman was rude and argumentative which has put me right off ever considering going back it was her who cooked my pizza and wouldnt execpt she made a mistake and blsned the board with the recipes on out front

After getting my lunch today I am now convinced that they make up Thier prices on the the spot who charges £5.39 .not the best of food had to throw over half of it out

All through the pandemic Big Sam's provided the dept with amazing quality food with no charge just out of pure kindness, we will always be thankful for the generosity shown, amazing food, amazing customer service would highly recommend, stacey.

Ordered on just eat and order did not arrive at all, despite phoning twice to confirm....I would definitely not recommend

I get one of their jacket potatoes every time I journey from Newport to see my friend in the area. They’re consistently the best jacket potatoes I’ve ever had. I really want to try the pizza but can’t bring myself to not get my jacket potato with cheese & coleslaw. I’d recommend to anyone.

Not first time had bad experience with Sams. Just quick fix Curry sauce and chips. You would think they could get that right. Irish curry like water. Chips were nice but £1.00 more expensive than Scrumps in Talbot Green. That is ridiculous. I foned to advise them as i didnt want anybody else to have curried water! Offered free one when next there. No thanks. SCRUMPS everytime now freshly cooked, lovely staff and not ripped off.

Had food from this place last night, I got to say it was fantastic good quality and very hot when delivered, The Boys in work was very happy. Pleasure eating from here will be back soon. Thankyou Cory.

I overheard an older lady managing two younger employees (not sure if this lady was the manager or not) and speaking to them with unappreciation and disrespect. Made me feel a little uncomfortable. Obviously I don't know the situation, but a little bit of kindness goes a long way, and these two girls were more than happy to serve and help me. Other than that food was okay.

This shop states that they close at 11pm, I turned up at 10pm and I was met with lady who stated that all the machinery was turned off for the day (so that meant no fish & chips, no pizza etc) - just buy whatever is left in the counter. Why advertise that you're open till 11pm when your staff are so keen to shut up shop at 10pm? Awful experience.

If i could rate it zero i certainly would absolute shocking service been here many times was warned by my partner she refuses to eat there from a previous visit. Avoid at all cost gone down hill.

I had a meat feast pizza yesterday and i violently threw up all day today since 7 this morning!

Order 3 kebabs chips and a dip, paid over 30 pound for it to turn up 1 kebab missing and, to top it of the other 2 kebab meat was black hard strips of waht looked like left over scraps and freezing cold. Tried ringing but must have known my number as after the 3rd attempt the phone was taken of the hook.. won't be going back!!

Very disappointed about the custom service I received from big Sams when ordered food over 2 hours ago and only now receiving it and phone the shop only for the manager of the shop to hang up on me so won't be doing business with them again very disappointed with them

Very good amount of food but a little expensive

Their special offers on the window is very confusing. Deliberately I hope not. Ended up spending double what I should have. Staff inexperienced. Management when not in hiding were more interested in who I was rather than getting things right.

I recently ordered a small portion of chips and a mince beef and onion pie with gravy for my lunch. The person who served me was polite and the takeaway was clean. The food tasted great and was reasonably priced.

Very friendly staff, but if you're going to ask if a customer wants salt, vinegar, sauce or salad at least put them on! Just ordered chicken burger meal expecting salad sauce an cheese an salt an vinegar got home, unwrapped to find plain chips and plain burger

Lovely food and extremely polite staff. I was very pleased with the service and standard of food, for such a great price as well.

Visited this place three times in the last month at my girlfriend's insistence as it's slightly outside our district. First time was OK. Impressed wth a staff member disinfecting. I asked for a fork which the assistant picked up by the tines. I requested a replacement picked up by the handle. Second time was OK Third About 8pm, 16th January. Server was less than two meters from a colleague during a conversation while they ignored me. His Covid mask kept slipping as he spoke and he costantly grabbed it by the front to reposition every few seconds. When asked for my order, fearing Covid, I made my excuses and left.

Had cod and chips from Big Sam's on 8 August 2020 and have to say it was excellent. Loads of well cooked chips, really crispy batter and beautiful skinless/boneless fish. Can't wait for my next visit.

The chips from here are one of a kind and highly recomend. It’s a shame customer service wasn’t 100% but it’s expected from being on their feet all day serving the kind of people they unfortunatily have to deal with. It’s a real shame people lack respect these days. Especially in these hard and challenging times.

Popped in for much missed fish and chips, NO FISH, but understandable in current situation, but to have people serving who didn't seem to have a clue, totally forgot our first part of our order only to say they didn't have rissole, when clearly in the hot cabinet on view! Oh my cod, hurry up and open in pontyclun for some decent customer service and food!

Ordered from here at my son in laws yesterday, 4 pizzas, not one was correct, no ham or pineapple, on the hawian, no meat except pepperoni on the meat feasts, added mushrooms, peppers and sweet corn which I hate AWFUL !!!!!!

Poor customer service, impolite and lack of respect. Server pulled a face during tbe fairly unpleasant experience of making my request. Not coming back.

The food was ok but the young girl who was working in there walked in from off the street and attempted to serve me without washing her hands and when i pointed it out i got attitude, she still didn't even wash her hands she just went off to do something else. with the current situation washing hands is significantly more important now than ever.

Atrocious service. Waited at head of queue for five minutes, totally ignored by all staff, then gave up and went for a curry. Bloke behind me seemed to do a bit better by saying, then saying loudly, finally shouting ‘Excuse me!!!’ At least they noticed him. Anyone else fancy opening a chippy in Pontyclun? I love Sam's, yes you have to wait but the chips are fab, the kebabs are great. Portions are just right and sorry but you get what you pay for. Love it and great if you need a quick fix. Freshly cooked fish is a bonus. Ring ahead it gets busy.

Had the one piece chicken, chips and a drink for £2:99, good value and good food, nice proper sachet of ketchup too.

I have ordered from here a few times, never ever had a problem. Food has always been very nice and delivery staff friendly. Some locals consider it a little pricey, but to myself and family it's a case of paying a little extra for very nice food... #Chickenquality.

8 kids just stole 3 bread rolls from big sams fish chip shop in Pontyclun, 12 police showed up the kid who did it was cought on camera acting like a cheeky monkey, his dad showed up who was shouting so loud it got really funny real fast, the kid looked really scared after that, if you want cheap food for under a fiver I recommend it once in a while

This is fairly local to me and so when I fancy a cheeky cheap takeaway, this is one of a few places I would be happy to go back to. As you might expect from a takeaway restaurant, they sell an excellent range of takeaway foods; fish, chips, southern fried chicken, burgers, pizzas, kebab... Etc. The food is always prepared freshly and priced competitively (on promotional days, it's insanely competitive!) and I've never had a bad meal from here. The staff are always friendly, polite and efficiently quick. As with a lot of these kinds of places, turnover of staff is frequent, but again, every time I've been here, they've been spot on. Coming back to an earlier point, promotional deals: Some of the deals they offer are proper nuts! For example, they offer buy one get one free on pizza at selected times. Not that extreme you may say but on a Tuesday, they offer an extra one which means you buy one pizza and then get TWO for free... Wait. What? I'm paying for one and you'll give me three?! Are you sure?! What was that?! Eh?! I had to ask the young lady serving me several times to make sure she wasn't going to get herself sacked, but yes, get your timing right and some of the meal deals they offer are outstanding and truly excellent value for money. In summary, a great little takeaway place that offers good food at a fair price. 👍

Order from this fish shop regularly and really disappointed by the lack of respect for the customer. Ordered through just eat and received the wrong order, not a problem, these things happen, so contacted big sam’s who apologised and said they’d bring the correct order. Half an hour later and nothing received! Rang again, to be told that the chicken had gone missing and the driver had said that there was nothing wrong with the order and he had been back to our house and we’d said everything was fine! Absolute lies and disgusting customer service!! Not contacted us to tell us that the order had gone missing and now accusing us of lying! Then proceeded to tell us that chicken had all been sold and they could send us something else.. Asked for a refund and will never use this shop again. Seriously need to change the way they speak to and treat their customers!!

Nice and clean good food for the price

Ordered food over the phone at 20:12, called at 21:20 to see where my delivery was, "its already left, shouldnt be long". Come 22:00 i call again and apparently nobody can remeber making my order. This is the last time i think of ordering from here. Terrible service.

Amazing chips and fish cakes friendly staff

Really disappointed. Big Sam's is my local chip shop and I will go back to driving to Lyshons in Brynna. Firstly I think you need a bit of advice and you need to get rid of this 2 ordering counters as it was a disaster from start to finish. I ordered a pizza and had to order all my chips from that counter. The order was taken correctly yet I had 2 jumbo missing the pie was the wrong pie which I didn't realise until I came home. The delivery driver was good enough to drop them both out to us but they would have forgotten all the sauces if I didn't mention. Then whilst I stood around waiting for all the food to be cooked 2 different members of staff were helping themselves to food whilst serving up customers orders. Whilst I stood there they also made and error on someone elses order who had to come back in to sort it.

Chips were sub standard but the fish I had this week was absolutely awful. Barely any fish under all the batter and what was there was very overcooked. Terrible food, won’t be going back.

Great fish and chips. They do lots of other options pies, etc. Very friendly staff not phased by a order for 21 lots of fish and chips which we ordered for our family camp recently. Not that far to go either from Bracelands campsite in the forest of Dean.

Really good portions and fish and chips was really good. They cook fish to order so best to pop your head round door and order and go back 10 minutes later.

Used to be a regular here, it’s been going down hill for a while but tonight is the final straw!! We ordered through just eat the order turned up after an hour and a half, however can’t complain as we were kept updated. On opening the door to the delivery driver we were immediately asked for an additional £2 to cover the cost of the stuffed crust on the “free” pizza. Firstly if this was the case then this should be made more clear!! In addition to this they missed the free chips 2 dips and coleslaw off the order!! The delivery driver did not like being challenged - what ever happened to providing good customer service??!!!! Oh and the chips looked and tasted like they were left overs from lunchtime. Safe to say I wont be spending money here again!!! Shocking 😡😡

Literally the worst "chip shop" come fast food joint I have ever had the displeasure of frequenting. I would give minus stars if could. Have given them the benefit of the doubt so many times. Food mediocre, portions ever decreasing in size, rip off prices, which always seem to be going up, staff always seem miserable and unhappy, they appear to speak and treat each other like dirt, particularly the young new faces, always recruiting, always new faces who never last, and to top it off you will be made to wait ages for even a bag of chips. Not uncommon to wait 20-30 mins in here even when shop not busy. I've given up on this place and will never return. I'd rather go hungry. A "chippie tea" is supposed to be a treat, I've always left Big Sams feeling annoyed, frustrated, violated and disappointed asking myself why didn't I go somewhere else and telling myself never again! The problem is they have no competition and I believe this is the only reason people keep returning and they are able to survive. They are totally ripping people off and they don't seem to care. They must spend thousands refitting the shop with stupid LCD screens everywhere and now the totally confusing flashy menu boards everywhere. No other business will you see this absurdity. Hopefully, for the benefit of the community, some decent independent competition will arrive soon.

Great pitza and their chips are cooked really well.

Called in to get a tray of chips to go with a curry at home - the tray was shovelled full (£2.20p) however when I got home the chips were cold / small & scrag ends / some were black, with a mix of fish batter scraps.Whilst I have been a great supporter of Big Sam's in the past, there have been too many times in the recent past that the food has not come up to standard, both in quality and freshness.IF ordering a fish - then it is cooked to order, however the chips are made in batches, and this was an old, cold, batch.I rang in and informed the Manageress - (who stated incorrectly, that the chips were cooked to order, and then apologised for the order and offered a free tray of chips.However the damage is done, too many bad orders and too little management control.When the Singhs were hands on it worked.... but not nowThat was my last visit to Sam's .... R.I.P

Literally could grow old waiting for chips in this place. Allways waiting on more chips, every time without fail. Chips are expensive and now come in a plastic tray opposed to a box so they end up swesty and soggy by time you get home. Roll on crispy cod!!!

Went down to the store itself, ordered jacket potatoes with cheese and beans, a curry chip butty and a 7inch pizza, we was waiting 25 minutes, the curry sauce was a strong dark red? Also they keep customers waiting for no unnecessary reason, honestly do not waste time going to this place for your day to be wasted and for mediocre food at high prices Also to top it off the jacket potato was like a raw potato, not nice and fluffy like everywhere else, basically boils down to careless and productivity.

Very poor, order completely wrong. Food was cold. When we phoned the member of staff got quite shirty on the phone. We had to take it all back and the kids were starving. When we did get it, the chips tasted old and some were so burned they Couldn't be eaten and the overall taste was horrible. We will not be eating from there again in a hurry and wouldn't recommend it. Some of the staff need customer service training.

"Half price chips and fish" the new super-duper Sunday deal is exactly what it says on the can. Half price chips, if you pay full price for the fish. Not as good as it first sounds and nowhere nearly as good as the previous "Half price fish and chips" deal. I'm sure it's not deliberately trying to dupe?

Whenever I use this place, which isn’t that often, I get the feeling that they think they’re doing me a favour..... the foods ok but all too often I’m left feeling underwhelmed by the quality of service.

Fish AND chips. Who would have thought that was a winning combination? They also do pizza, kebabs and fried chicken. I have only tried the chips, which have always been fresh and delicious.

Called in on a whim. Two large boxes of freshly cooked chips, £5. Expensive but nice enough and certainly plentiful. Service good, but no one else waiting to be served. Can get busy.

Given this place too many opportunities to get it correct the first time. 6 months ago I also witnessed a young staff member feel the kebab with his bare hand to check temperature after dealing with cash at the till. Food has been completely incorrect the last 3 times when ordering a delivery. Called them to ask for a refund they told me to go back through just eat as they don’t receive the funds for 2 months later from them, just eat then rang the restaurant and informed them they had already offered me a refund if they could collect the order which was not offered to me when complaing. I then called them back to query this as to why I wasn’t asked to do this, to be told by the same person that he didn’t inform me as he was unsure if his manager would authorise? Not my problem unfortunately and very unhelpful. A shame as the food is actually nice when you’ve get what you ordered and it’s not contaminated.

Expensive at 220 for a small portion of chips that were not the best I have tasted so I will give it a miss in the future
