Big Chef Chinese Takeaway in County Durham

A good takeaway other than unruly juveniles running about outside. Not the fault of the owners. Doesn't take cards. Cash only which is outdated and inconvenient.

Got a bit of a big order delivered but they forgot 1 item that was delivered in record time when I phoned about it. Food was delicious, definitely my favourite Chinese.

Good food and fast timing, definitely going back again

Food is okay, just convenient as close by if fancy a Chinese. Staff miserable need to work on their customer service. Shop very run down too, bit of a shame really.

Congealed salty curry, meat and prawns over cooked, prawns crackers oily. Not able to eat any of the food all went in the bin, will definitely not be back. However the service was speedy at the detriment of the food quality

Haven't tried that much of the menu but rarely get a bad meal from here. Service is ok, wouldn't hurt them to smile once in a while though. Inside of shop is a bit run down, and cold. Would use them more often if they took card payments, but they don't.

Dry old overcooked spare ribs.won tons with no filling, prawn toast dry.

House special Szechuan sauce brilliant 10/10

Worst Chinese I have ever eaten, I don't recommend no one to come here

Never been disappointed before , but just had house special in chilli and black bean sauce , it consisted of chips onion and very watery gravy , the prawns were like rubber and I think the dog would have struggled to chew the meat , no signs of the black beans or chilli , be a while before I order again , or I nearly forgot they charged me an extra quid for delivery and I live in village

Ordered a takeaway via the website which still hasn’t arrived after 2 hours. Two phone calls to the restaurant who advised that it’s “on route” to which it still has not arrived. If I could rate this zero stars then I would. Avoid at all costs. Update: After 4 phone calls to the restaurant and told I could have a refund and to “keep my food” once it arrived, I was told that the driver could not find my address and when asked if I was going to receive my order was told “definitely not”. Driver not once attempted to contact us to ask for directions - was advised driver cannot speak English and this is why. Further investigation into this restaurant and they have a food rating of 2 out 5. One good thing to come of this abysmal service is that I’ve likely saved myself food poisoning. Disgraceful service, I’d advise everyone to never order from here.

My order was a little late in arriving (first time for everything) but boy was it worth waiting for. Delicious.

Love the staff. The girls behind the counter are really pleasant. It's a such a nice takeaway. They custom your meal all you do is ask. Food is beautiful always it's freshly cooked snd stays red hot till u get home.

I wish there was an opportunity to give no stars. This was probably the worst Chinese I have ever had. Overcooked noodles, about 3 week old prawn crackers , tasteless/chewy meat and a feeling that I was fed their dog's dinner, really sums up this awful experience . Never ever again 🤢

Good Chinese take away, however, it may have recently changed ownership or meat provider, as the quality of food has changed. The chicken is not quite as nice as it once was.

Have not been there for quite a while but just got s takeaway and was really impressed. Chow mein and sweet and sour chicken in batter. One of the best I have had. Not greasy and full of flavour at a good price. I will be back

Changed owners last year but still best chinese in area, tried others but no where near as good as here

Good choice of meals reasonably priced and delivery if needed

Just been curry tasty chips ok a bit pricey small portions gripe nearly 2 quid for prawn crackers ok but not when they are as soggy as Hilda Ogden's mop heed.

Fri 11th jan 2019 At 5.45 ordered 1 chickenchow mien which was like chicken noodles n onion Fried rice mushrooms in Glup oops!! Gravy Have ordered food here in past but never again waste of money 😡

Everything is spot on with this takeaway from ordering the food etc. Food is lush too and iv never had any mistakes on my order which is brilliant

every saturday i order from them and the food is great. it could take some time for it to arrive But its normal as it is the weekends. is it just me or does everyone hear children screaming ,shouting and laughing in the background when you are on the phone?

If there was an option to chose no stars i would have. We have ordered from here for years and always enjoyed the food. However tonight we ordered and it was inedible. When we opened our chicken fried rice it was obvious straight away that the chicken had not been cooked properly on closer inspection it was still raw and the curry sauce was like a cup of yellow water. So our tea went in the bin! We called the shop to make them aware that the chicken was not cooked and were asked to hold. When the lady came back she appolgised and asked if we would like a replacement to which we replied no as we had been put off completely now. She then said we could get something for the same value next time we order, we said we wont be ordering again and were then offered to come over and collect a refund. We told them to keep the money however they have most definatley lost our custom now. I dont know if there is a new chef but the food has definatley gone down hill which is a shame as it has always been our favourite.

Ordered from here because my local was closed. Worst mistake I've made in months and I've made a good few... food was that salty it was inedible. It all went in the bin. Never going here again. AVOID.
