Big Blue in Warrington

Lovely food. Our family all ate something different (fish and chips, pie, chicken nuggets, etc) and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.. particularly the chips - gorgeous! Nice, friendly staff. Lovely quality food 👍 It had been recommended by friends but as we live across town we'd never been, but on this occasion thought we'd make the 30 minute roundtrip to try - was worth it!! Thank you Big Blue 👍

Ive just been to the Big Blue and paid £3 for large chips. Got home to find that their large chips constitutes barely a childs portion. Absolute rip off.

Soggy chips soggy fish. This used to be one of the best fish and chip shops. Shame.

Would not recommend for 25£ what I has been charge for to cods and chips,wasn't cod in both portions and everything so greasy is unreal.the quality is not worth the money!!not coming back and would not recommend to anyone!

Had to wait over 20 minutes for our food and what we got was not worth waiting for. All food was stone cold, chips were brown, overdone and extremely greasy, fish was soggy and the batter was extremely greasy. My partner is a pescatarian and they put her mozzarella sticks in the food warmer touching chicken and sausage so she was unable to eat these despite them having another food warmer free with nothing in it. Had to throw most of it away. Expected a lot better for the price they are charging. Unfortunately will not be returning.

If you are looking for an excellent and constantly good fish and chip dinner, this is the best! We have been loyal customers for many years! We had to go to other places when away or when missing the Big Blue closing time and unfortunately always with disappointment. Big delicious portions of good fish, never made of fish tails put together as some do! As for the chips, they change variety over the seasons to get the best results (and proud of it). Next time you go there ask the boss about which potatoes they are using…. Be prepared for a serious, committed conversation about it and you will learn a thing or two.

Used to be a regular customer but over the last few years the quality and portion sizes have dwindled. Better and cheaper chippys in the area.

This place used to be the go to place for fish/pie and chips. Even though it was expensive it was good quality. Sadly my last two visits have been poor.On both occasions I had steak and ale pie with chips. The first time the pie was served from the warmer butwas burned at the bottom and dry inside, the second was done by microwave resulting in a soggy unappetising mush. Chips were ok as was gravy but I will no be payin g the best partof ten quid for this again.

1st time here had a large order and the young lad did amazing. Food was delicious 😋

It’s just not good any longer and for the price I’d go to another. Sad, it WAS my fav place in the neighbourhood for fish and chips now it’s just diabolically terrible. All chippys have gone up in price but you can’t charge over the odds and sever a less then product.

Used to be the beast chippy around by far with the nicest chips. Not sure if it’s been sold but it’s ya now the worst. So sad this place has gone down hill while the prices have skyrocketed. Wouldn’t mind paying if the quality was still there but sadly it is not. We will not be returning.

Pretty naff fish and chips. Chips were really, really dry and fish was really soggy and flavourless. Disappointing.

Look at every review they all sum it up, I bought 1 fish and chips, 1 single fish, 1 carton of peas and 1 carton Of gravy £22.95, I absolutely don’t mind paying for quality but sorry to say none of the food was of quality, the owner brought each slice of fish carrying each one separately walking through the shop with it dangling then proceeded to wipe his fingers on a greyish dirty cloth, I will definitely not be going back.

Always think the chips are overcooked and dry fish is always soggy the only thing good about it is the curry sauce but for £30 for two fish chips and mushy peas it's not worth it

I have reviewed the Big Blue previously and swore that I would not return but I broke that promise recently. Huge mistake! Now, I really have learned my lesson the hard way. Four cod @ £7.75 each two large portions of chips a one large sausage cost me £38.80p. If that's not bad enough, the worst was yet to come. The "lightly battered" cod each consisted of two small bits of fish held together by the batter. The batter tasted like the fryer oil needed changing. The fish was poor quality with dark staining and not the white flesh you expect with a decent cod fillet. Clearly they are charging top whack for substandard produce. The chips were cooked fresh but we're full of "bits" which were hard and crispy. Even the sausage looked very sorry for itself as it appeared to have spent a prolonged period in the warmer alongside many friends. I cannot emphasize what a disappointment the whole order was to the four of us. All that said, we are all agreed that the Big Blue has seen the last of us. I would love a response but I really don't think that anyone there really cares and don't anticipate one. It's all downhill if they don't listen to the customers.

Move to the area recently and have tried the big blue on a few occasions, I am still confused as to why it’s so busy ? The food is extremely overpriced and the portion size is a joke . Potatoes are relatively inexpensive so I am unsure why they feel the need to scrape the tray so it’s below the level mark . I don’t normally leave reviews and this is a local establishment that I would love to support but it’s completely above its station and needs to realize it’s place and customers Might open a chippy next door and shut the place down

Had a lovely rag rolled pudding, gravy and chips and it was really good. I must admit not the cheapest about but if you want something that's worth eating then you have to pay a bit extra for it. Service is friendly and efficient. No complaints from me and will use again.

Excellent food Good friendly service

I intend to go again soon, the last time I went the service was great and the food was excellent as always. My car battery went flat and the staff gave me a free drink while I waited for the breakdown service which was nice of them. I highly recommend this place

Chippy new to us just thought, give it a try not Disappointed good portions I had rag roll pudding lots of meat in it. My Husband had Steak and Ale pie also lots of filling. Chips were nicely done very happy with our new find we will definitely be back.x

Just got home having paid £7.75 for a fish that was 1.5 inches wide and not great. Can’t believe the prices compared to other local Chip shops namely Lymm. Poor selection of alternatives fir 7.30 on a Saturday. Dissatisfied.

I called at the Big Blue In Grappenhall today (26th August 2022) with my grandson and ordered 2 Regular Fish and Chips and 1 Mild Curry (Fruity Curry Sauce). That in total cost £19.80. When we returned home to eat our lunch, my grandson was disgusted as he opened the box to find a fish finger sized fish and a small portion of Chips in a very large box. I shared the same feeling as my grandson as we felt for the price it cost it was no way near there quality we expected. Also when my grandson opened his so called ‘Mild Curry Sauce’, It turned out to be Gravy which we did not order nor did the person taking the order shout out at the end when we collected it from the counter. The so called fish, when filleted by the Cooks, was mushy indicating it was not fresh also it seemed as though it was cut in half and still at the same price as a full Fish. Near the end of my Grandson’s meal he found what we thought was a bone but turned out to be a piece of String. After producing this review, I sincerely hope other people that read this review would give The Big Blue a wide birth. I felt it was not value for money at all and I will not frequent it again. I will be letting my family and friends know my experience today.

You cannot insult customers by calling those fish they were that small!!!! Amazing fish and chips quality for what you pay for and service is really fast

I have been a customer of the Big Blue since it first opened. Even during lock down the fish and chips were good. I only visit probably once every couple of months. Last night I ordered 2 cod at £7 each, with chips and mushy peas. People are generally asked to wait to be called when there order is ready, so I did not see my order until I got home. I was shocked at the,size of the fish portions. 1 was a lot smaller than previous visits, but the other wasn't much wider than a fish finger. In addition the chips were luke warm and looked like they had been cooked twice, and didn't taste great. I won't be visiting again, even though this is just around the corner from where I live.

A cut above your average chippy. They have a wide range of fish choices and friendly staff.

Best freshly cooked while you wait, superb selection, great staff, and reasonable prices too.Been going for years and it high standards are visible in all areas. Have lightly coated batter of you don"t like it heavy coated, or breadcrumbs even.

Went to the big blue tonight for fish and chips and pudding and chips , pudding was re heated in what sounded like a microwave and the fish was covered in batter what can only be described as doughnut texture fish and chips is good due to the crispy batter and this batter was more like a old slipper will not be going again , its such a shame.

Staff are lovely and food was nice however I was told to stand outside when it was freezing cold whilst I waited for my order for 10 mins. This was due to covid restrictions that are in place in the takeaway.

I ordered fish and small chips for £8.50. The fish was shaped like a sausage roll, not the normal shape of a fish and was small. 20% of the chips were hard and crispy. Not what I expected tbh.

Not like it used to be. Brown unappetising chips. Tiny chicken burger on dry bun, without lettuce as advertised. Better places around for better value.

Clean fish cooked to order. Good plaice for takeaway chippie tea. Bit expensive, so only use once in a blue moon.

Food is great, staff are very efficient and friendly, prices are a little steep, but can always count on it for a good eat.

The guy who runs this chippy is an absolute tool , which is a shame because the chips are nice (if very overpriced) .. the staff who work there look sole destroyed and seem like they are micromanaged beyond belief ! The owner guy is so smarmy and patronising I wish he would go out of business. Staff all wear covid masks round their chins if you are interested in their hygiene . Tip to the owner : it’s the customers that put money in your pocket .. try treating them with a bit of respect and humility . TLDR : avoid unless desperate

We all love going to the big blue it’s the kids first shout if we ask them if they want to have chips or something for a change/treat. We have been many times since the pandemic started but have been disappointed the last few times....

* read reviews before visiting * Owner is extremely rude! Ordered a pudding dinner, this came at a cost for each item seperate... Not a problem untill the portion of chips was no larger than the child's portion! I had to buy an extra portion of chips to compliment the pudding dinner, when the owner was challenged regarding this, he very curtly offered my money back I had paid for the extra chips....it was refused, I thought he may need to keep it as he was clearly more interested in that than serving his paying customer correctly. Food was ok, nothing extra special for the inflated price an rude customer service, next time I shouldn't be so impatient, an join the queues outside surrounding chipshops, there's a reason I walked straight in this 1, with no queues Go to the Chinese chippy across the road.... Passed this chippy and randomly decided to try it. Busy with what seemed to be regular customers , the fish fryer was very organised taking orders and very polite in directing our order and all ppe was being used . The food was outstanding especially the fish , lightly battered and the fish just fell apart great size portion too. Even broke down while eating our food in the car and customers came to help give us a jump start .would highly recommend 👌
