Bland food. Limited selection. Expensive for what it is. Usually Indian food is either great or terrible. Bhoomi Kitchen is incredibly mediocre. It’s.. just OK. Styled as an up-market Michelin restaurant, where you don’t get many choices but it’s supposed to be worth it. Well, the price sure reflects their aims, but the food you get for it is dull. If you’re very sensitive to flavour and you’re having a craving for bland Indian food, maybe this is for you? We had several dishes so it wasn’t just bad luck; it was all just “okay”. I had the Chicken 65 and Butter Chicken. My friend had the Biryani, and we had a few sides/starters like the Spinach & Potatoes, Lamb Samosa (that one was pretty nice but again it was ‘fine’), and a couple others. Because it’s a moderately expensive restaurant, they didn’t accommodate à la carte.

Today was my 2nd visit to this restaurant, and I have to say that I am massively floored. The staff, esp the manager, are EXTREMELY kind and polite. The ambience, the green-golden-black-brown hue they've used is gorgeous! And of course none of this would matter if the food was not as good! The chef deserves praise as well! All in all, 5 out of 5!

"Overpriced and Underwhelming: A Disappointing Dining Experience at Bhoomi Kitchen" "I had high hopes for Bhoomi Kitchen, but my experience was extremely disappointing. The prices were exorbitant for the quality of food served. The dishes lacked flavor and freshness, and some even seemed reheated. The service was slow and inattentive, making the dining experience even more frustrating. Overall, I would not recommend Bhoomi Kitchen to anyone looking for a satisfying and enjoyable meal."

We may have easily ordered more food w/o thinking twice but was put off by per person 'Compulsory 2 course meal' - it somehow affects customer psyche & would recommend changing as no one likes to be restricted when paying for their food. Staff are friendly and the food is not bad. There are very few options and that should mean every dish is on point but on this experience every dish was ‘ok’. The staff and restaurant are very pleasant but the price is astronomic for what you get. £200 for three people with just a couple of drinks. If I’d paid half I’d still feel overcharged. Putting average Indian/Bangladeshi food into stylish (small) containers doesn’t elevate it to Michelin standards. The starters - I’ve had better street food in India for 50R. Again not terrible but just OK. The main courses £39 and it’s rice OR bread FFS - what a total ripoff. Too many stupid people with too much disposable income in Oxford methinks. Hideously overpriced.

The popadoms were delicious. I liked the quality of the prawn starter but I felt it could have used some extra citrus or salt. My friends had the dosa and samosa and said both were delicious. I ordered the black chickpeas as my main and while I liked the flavors the texture was a bit strange; more on the undercooked side I would say. The chicken mains were the standard you would expect. The servers here are very nice but the service itself was very slow and we had to ask for some things twice. For the price being charged I would expect the service to be quicker and more attentive especially that it was not too busy.

I decided to provide a detailed review as the restaurant requested feedback via email. I believe this platform serves as a more appropriate avenue for sharing our dining experience. Our visit to the restaurant was impromptu, prompted by my wife's craving for Indian cuisine. Despite not having a prior reservation, the staff graciously accommodated our family of five. They were cordial throughout our time there. However, we found the pricing to be exorbitant, particularly considering the offerings included in their 2-course meal (£35 per person) or banquet option (£39 per person). The staff informed us that there were no à la carte options available. My wife and I opted for the banquet, and also ordered strawberry lassi and soft drinks. Regrettably, there was no designated kids' menu available. Our 3-year-old and 6-year-old shared starters and butter chicken with us, as they aren't good eaters. The chicken lollipop was good, the kids loved it, but the Kala (salmon) was just average. Due to dietary restrictions, we couldn't have the venison samosa, which was substituted with chicken lollipops. However, the wait for our main course was unexpectedly prolonged. Upon its arrival, we found the portion sizes of the curries adequate for adults. However, I was taken aback by the meagre serving of one small Kerala Parotta (flatbread) provided alongside. My wife opted for rice, which she shared with the children. Then she ordered another Kerala Parotta for her, which came for £5. The flavour of the Butter Chicken and Prawn dishes was passable, nothing extraordinary to meet the standards expected of a Michelin guide establishment. Our experiences at local Indian eateries in Oxford had yielded superior tastes. The Lamb Nirgiri failed to impress, as the lamb was barely discernible amidst a mishmash of green paste. The beef curry disappointed with its stale taste and below-average seasoning. Despite our best efforts, we found ourselves with leftover curries due to the insufficient bread portions provided. This seemed to be a deliberate tactic to encourage additional side orders. We could order more bread if the curries were great, but we packed the leftovers and left the restaurant hungry and unsatisfied. When asked about the food, my response was a lukewarm "it's OKAY!"—a sentiment that was likely misconstrued as praise. The establishment lacked amenities catering to families with young children. There was no high chair for our 7-month-old, so we had to cradle him throughout the meal. This further detracted from our overall experience, adding to our disappointment. Overall, the dining experience failed to impress, and we cannot justify revisiting or recommending this establishment.

Review for 2 meals, lunch and dinner. Very different experiences in terms if price and quality. A while ag we had a wonderful veggie lunch thali, chai and payasam. All super delicious. The service was friendly and welcoming. Then we went for a dinner, and found the food portions to be stingy and overpriced. We had all veggie food. They charge £35 for 2 courses, but you don't get much for it. I was surprised about the starters: 1 idli in the portion (there was also one vada) all submerged in the sambar; small dosa with hardly any potatoes, both with a dot of just one chutney. The mains have 1 accompaniment but don't come with sides so you have to spend extra. The paneer was fine, but the broccoli kofta offering was stingy with only 2 pieces in it. We ordered chapati as extra and while it was beautifully made, they only give you 1 for about 5 pounds. It all felt ungenerous and stingy - a shame really. Disappointing dinner. Overall, I may go back for thali lunch but definitely not for dinner. The amount of food really does not justify the price, and the stinginess on the plate does not inspire return custom.

First time visiting here and I have to say the food of totally worth it. Some dishes I’ve never come across before and some classics, all of them elevated above your standard curry house fare but not so fancy you feel like you need to insta everything (if you know what I mean). The highlight for me is definitely the venison samosas…so good I had 2 portions! Yeah I said it, what are you going to do? 😉

It was our first visit since the name and operator change. The three of us were able to secure a place at short notice; dinner was supposed to have three courses for each of us. Since it's been two months now, I can't name the dishes, but I do know that I was very happy with the starter and main course as pictured. The small ice cream dessert was a bit surprising, both in type and size. The service was attentive, the dishes, as I said, tasty, but could have been a little more generous. In cold weather, having the table closest to the door can be a problem. Despite a curtain it will be very cool. The pricing is confident, but still justifiable. All in all, a visit to a restaurant that we would like to repeat on our next visit to Oxford.

Excellent gem of a restaurant in Headington. The food was amazing, the service was great, and we will definitely be going there again. The curry I had was very meat heavy which is great as you really get your money's worth. It wasn't too spicy but some things had a kick to them still, but not too badly and I'm a wimp with spices. Also, I have never known I've been eating bad poppadoms. I never knew a poppadom could be bad, but the taste with even those blew any other poppadom I've had out of the water. 100% impressed

The service, place and price were great. We had brought in a really special friend of ours to this restaurant. We had ordered thali which had a sea food dish in it. Unfortunately the sea food dish that they served was stale. Myself and my husband immediately knew it was stale. Whereas our friend whom we had invited hadn’t known about it. Our friend was really excited on venturing South Indian dishes and questioned about why the dish tasted funny. We both decided to be modest and did not want to create a scene.. Hence we moved on and completed our meal. This is the only thing where we were really disappointed about. Please think about who comes to a restaurant, don’t serve any dish if it is no longer fresh or it’s stale. Considering the Michelin reviews we had a decent expectation from your restaurant but when it comes to food we would not recommend it anyone.

Overpriced! And by principle, I hate a restaurant which do not allow sharing of food. Never coming back again. There is an option for a banquet course which gives you enough food for 2 people, but they have priced it at 39£ “per person”. When I said, we will just like to order one banquet for the both of us, they said we can’t share!! My argument is that if I have paid for the food, I can choose to do whatever I want with it. They are just trying to make more money by using these tactics. Every dish is sold as a “single course” with a side option, so they can price it more than usual.

We found this great restaurant by chance on a weekend-break in Oxford. First impressions were that the decor was modern and the staff were friendly. The menu was refreshingly concise. The manager, Papu, gave great advice on what to choose - the lamb biryani special was outstanding. He talked to us for a while and I got the genuine impression that they really care about the quality and uniqueness of their menu. Everything was delicious. (I don't say that often - the previous night we left most of our food at a well-reviewed restaurant in town). Service was efficient. The restaurant was busy but is set up so well that it is not too noisy. 5 days later we're still talking about it, wondering if it really is crazy to go back to Oxford again just to visit Bhoomi Kitchen.

Owners Please Read this All they need to do is get rid of course meals and let customers order what they want. I hope and really wish the owner reads my comment, as this will lead to twice the number of customers. Over past several months innumerable hungry hospital friends have been there and turned back disappointed as they are not allowed to share food and can only take a set course meal. If they can get over this and let people choose what they want I'm certain you will be hiring people to serve a big crowd(Given the fact this is a hotspot next to one of the biggest hospitals in UK)

Food was good but nothing extraordinary. But with the price tag it was sub par. The £16 biryani was too small of a portion. I was hungry after eating the whole biryani. I spent around £30 in total. The ambience of the place looked stellar, but I was there for the takeaway so it didn't do much good for me. If you like good food at a high price and low quantity, sure this place would be the best option. But if you're looking for good food for a decent price and good portion size, maybe not.

Food was alright, however very expensive! The pricing didn't make much sense to me, one course main meal was £27, however for take out the same meal would have cost £9.95 - so not sure the reason for such a price hike to eat in. The dosa was also very thick and did not have crispy edges - more like a fat pancake than a dosa! Overall, the food was fine, but due to the price I don't think I'd be in a rush to revisit.
