What a fiasco. You couldn't make it up, talk about Fawlty Towers. I stayed in room 6 this year, after specifically requesting not to stay in room 2 with it's enormous bright green Fire Exit sign on all night. The nice young lady had some trouble letting me into room 6, the one right at the end of the block, but eventually we got in. Straight away I noticed that the original lock had been replaced and a bodge job had been done. As it was warm I left the door open for a bit. When I wanted a shower, I tried to lock the door from the inside, this proved impossible. So I went to the bar and explained and the nice young lady came back and said that her Dad would be along soon and he would have a look at it. Which he did. I returned the next evening at around 5.30, the pub garden was full, with drinkers seated around 6ft from my "front door". I couldn't get in. Again. I spent an embarrassing 5-10 mins trying, viewed by all of the drinkers outside. Eventually a nice chap offered to come and help. He too tried for ages and said the lock was utterly broken. He didn't quite use those words though. :-) Then someone came out from the bar at my request and she literally had to kick the door in to gain access. All of this took place in front of the whole beer garden. On Sunday morning I tried to leave the room, I was unable to. I was locked in. As chance would have it the landlady rang me, to ask what time I wanted breakfast, on telling her of my plight she tried to gain access from outside and failed. Then another lady turned up and she climbed in through the window. Eventually, between them they got the lock open. This took some time. I wonder what would have happened if there had been a fire during the night? Perhaps I should also add that the duvet was torn, the wheel on the bed was broken, so you were sleeping at an odd angle. There was a dried blood stain on the duvet and a rip on the mattress cover. The sofa was very worn. There was black mould on the inside window and on the bath. The toilet seat had been screwed on wonky. I eventually located a wifi charger point, hidden behind the bedside table, but it didn't work. I requested a discount, given the ridiculous situation with the lock and was offered £50 off a three night stay. Given the amount that is being charged, that was derogatory. She eventually gave me £100 off . with no apology.

I don’t normally write reviews, but i do have to say today i had some amazing food. I had battered fish with chips and all i can say it was amazing the best fish i have had in years. The kitchen staff were polite and friendly and made our family trip at lunch time very special. The food was well presented and looked amazing, and we asked to thank the chef , we was told it was there chef apprentice who is 17years old, all i have to say is wow she done a tremendous job. we will be back and will recommend.

We called in for a cheeky drink in the beer garden area on a rare sunny evening. Didn’t have the best of welcomes at the bar by a young chap with a cold. My husband popped to the loo and said they were the most disgusting toilets he had ever been in-dirty toilets usually means dirty kitchen! Lots of trip hazards to the garden with very uneven block paving (accident waiting to happen) cheap tacky plastic chairs and tables-not dissimilar to the clientele on our visit! Young lad spitting all over the place with the foulest of language, he looked like he resides in the first outdoor guest room. Avoid staying near that room if you want peace and quiet during your stay! All in all an awful visit which will not be repeated.

In dire need of renovation and would absolutely not recommend staying here. As you can see from the photos attached the shower curtain is full of mould, the bathroom plug had broken off and was just left on the side, there is mould, dirt and grime all over the bathroom. Sofa in room and bedding was stained. Curtains were hanging off the curtain pole. Wardrobe smelt musty and was also dirty. Noise coming from some sort of water tank all night, running water sounds. When we got to the room around 11pm there was no staff there to address these issues with so unfortunately had to stay in this disgusting room for the night, raised the issus in the morning with the only staff member I could find who wasn't interested at all and made no attempt to rectify any of the issues.

My wife & I just returned home from a very happy five night break (B&B) with 3 evening meals at this most pleasant pub. It was our second stay there. I made a mistake with the room booking that had the potential to cause domestic distress but the helpful & cooperative staff quickly sorted it out for us. The food was always delicious and the staff always attentive & helpful The rooms were very clean (if a little tired) & the double bed most comfortable. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay & would recommend it

On arrival, lovely pub and big ish car park to the side which is suitable for vans. Stayed for one night and had two rooms. Both rooms were clean & comfortable. My room ( had a wet room rather than bath/shower) the shelf next to the sink needs adjusting upwards as when I put my stuff on it would slip down and off. But apart from that couldn’t fault my room:) Had dinner and the portions were HUGE! Really nice proper pub food and good selection of drinks. The breakfast was also really good. All staff are lovely. Will be back if In the area:)

Lovely meal.Great menu an Sunday lunch with family. The pub is divided in two. A bar area and then restaurant area. Family of 4 A great menu with variety aplenty. We ordered 4 different dishes. All dishes come with separate veg to add yourself. Quality of the food was excellent all round. Tasty and well presented dishes. Ample portion sizes. Prices are around £15 a plate. Specials board present Friendly and efficient staff. I highly recommend this place to eat.

We were lucky to find this lovely pub in a pretty village when the roads nearby were flooded and we were stuck overnight. A very friendly welcome and service from the young staff. Our room (6) was roomy and comfy, and we had a lovely dinner - the steak pie was great as was the veggie toad in the hole. Sadly there was a powercut due to the floods so we didn't get to try the breakfast. We'll be stopping off here for lunch in future when travelling along the A14.

Ate here over 2 nights with my husband, his sister and brother-in-law whilst staying here as part of a popular gift experience. Was a little apprehensive as some previous reviews weren't too favourable but overall was pleasantly surprised. The pub is in a quiet village location with a large green and a flock of resident geese. It has a large car park, free wifi and plenty of outside seating. As part of our deal, dinner was included on the first evening, a choice of 3 courses from the main menu. Portions were generous and nicer than anticipated, given previous reviews. On the second evening I had the lamb madras with rice from the main menu and naan bread as an optional extra. Portion size was good and the curry was homemade, very tasty and the lamb tender. The others all opted for cottage pie from the specials menu (2 courses for £13 or 3 for £15) and portion size was small by comparison.

Family of eight had Sunday lunch for Mothering Sunday. Food was good but service average. I did not like the fact that no detailed bill could be supplied-only copies of order slips! No prices of the drinks were available. When I asked for the bill the full amount was put into the card machine so I was unable to check exactly what I was paying for. For this reason I shall not return. I have never had this before in any restaurant either in England or abroad!

We visited for a birthday lunch with family today and was met with disappointment from the onset. Ignored upon seating, after just over 30 mins we wrote down our own drink order and went to the bar for it. We were not given menus so also went to request these from the (seemingly) snoozing waitress. Pie was shocking, cut from a large pie and clearly microwaved so very dry meat. No thought of presentation for any of the dinners. 2x lamb shanks appeared when everyone else had finished their food, so that was rubbish for two of us. Plates not cleared, we did this ourselves. Which was lucky, as they appeared with the cake we brought without considering mains should be cleared first! Waiting staff need to switch on and/ or have some training. Same for the chef.

On Friday 24th January, I phoned to book a table for four on 1st of February at 7.30. The plan was to have dinner with our friends and celebrate a birthday. On arrival, it was clear to me that the booking hadn’t been noted and there was no table for us. But the lady dealing with us said that our table was booked in the bar. As we entered said bar, a gentleman who I presume was the landlord barged into my husband without so much as an apology. We all took a seat and then were waiting a full 20 minutes before somebody came to lay our table. We then sat and continued to wait. Eventually my friend’s husband went to the bar to request a menu. As he came back, the gentleman from earlier came over and said that food needed to be ordered at the bar. I did mention the fact that we had booked a table in the restaurant, but it fell on deaf ears and he then walked off. So we chose our food ( nobody told us about the Specials) and ordered it. At this point, I have to say that the food was excellent and we all enjoyed everything we ordered, but it was a very long dinner. We didn’t get finished until nearly 10pm.The moral of this story is, if you made a mistake, own up. Nobody minds. Then do your best to make up for it. I felt like we were shoved up in a corner and forgotten about and it totally ruined what should have been a happy occasion. We had been before and I had been impressed enough to leave a good review on here. Sadly I can’t do that this time.

We were part of a large group of 30+ and as such were required to pre-order our meals. We thought that considering the pressure the kitchen and serving staff were under in providing for us, whilst at the same time accommodating a full restaurant of other guests, was very good indeed. The food was served hot, it was generous in portion size and was tasty. The real ale that I had was well kept and both the food and drink prices were reasonably priced. We enjoyed a great evening and will certainly be frequenting this traditional, friendly pub again.

Chose this place as it was at halfway point to meet up with family members. As we walked in the smell of fryers was very strong. after a while we had to ask for the menus. we were almost immediately asked for our order but we asked for more time the waiter dissapeared and we did not see him for a long while. When we were ready to order we tried to get the attention of the barman, he pretended he hadn't seen us and walked out the back of the bar he returned a few seconds later and continued to ignore us eventually after having 4 pairs of eyes boring into him he picked up a pad and reluctantly came to take our order. I had to repeat my order of lamb cutlets several times. our starters came after awhile they were well presented and were tasted ok.. My main course was delivered as a steak, when i said id ordered lamb he said oh yeah well its probably that i dunno what it is! said lamb cutlets were thin and a bit over cooked for my liking. the waiter never came to check if the food was ok during or after the meal. All those who ordered a cooked meak enjoyed their food. However as I was also out that evening, I chose oumpkin soup and a ham baguette. The soup was very thin and could have been anything. It lacked flavour and I found pieces a cabbage in it. The baguette was a very anaemic looking and not very substantial. It was served with a little limp salad. We were greeted with smiles and the food came fairly quickly but thats where the niceness stoped. The pub was fairly run down. The tables needed cleaning and were quite stained as were the sauce bottles on the table. No excuse for this! The breakfast whilst cheap was not cheerful. Bacon and scrambled eggs were good but mushrooms and tomatoes were not fully cooked and therefore not really hot and therefore inedible. Such a shame because it could be so much better with not a large amount of effort.

I have been here many times and never had an issue, food has always been lovely home cooked grub. However the last time I visited will in fact be my last time. We were a table of 9 and one pram with my daughter in. The table we were given didn't leave room for the pram even though when it was booked we advised them. The food itself was awful, tough chewy lamb, soggy chips and salad that wasn't fresh. Which is highly unusual because the food has always been lovely. The thing that put me off the most was when I asked to be directed to the baby change area I was told they didn't have one and that I would have to "make do" with changing my 8 week old daughter on the floor of the disabled toilet. Somewhere that calls themselves a family restaurant by law is required to have a changing table in the disabled toilet. Hence I went and changed my daughter in the car. When desert arrived, as nice as it was before people had finished eating they had started clearing the table like they couldn't get rid of us quick enough. I certainly won't be visiting again which is a shame because I have enjoyed a few lovely Sunday roasts there. :(

Popped in for lunch here on Saturday! Very near kitchen closing time to be honest, but in this day and age are pubs so successful they can turn business away? (Total of about 8 customers in the whole place). Barmaid told me the kitchen was about to close and we could have a sandwich! Husband choose the sausage baguette and I had the cheese ploughmans and a side order of cheesey chips! Order taken with distain! Food arrived after a time and it was awful! Big lump of cheese, small unimaginative salad, hot baguette, teaspoon of pickle and a slither of butter. The chips just had cheese chucked on them not even melted, was expecting a little bit more presentation and content as it wasn't cheap, approx £7 quid for the ploughmans. I went to get another drink and took my previous glass up to be helpful and barmaid just refilled it! I also asked for a lemonade and wasn't even offered ice and a slice! Not impressed, we won't be returning and wouldn't recommend it. Steer clear and go to the bear instead.

We have always enjoyed our visits here to this tradition country pub, and happy to make yet another visit. We came for dinner and our choices of starters were: whitebait & Breaded Brie x 3, and mains that included Steak & Ale Pie and Grilled Rainbow Trout. All the home cooked food was tasty and hot. There is always a good atmosphere here, and all the serving staff are helpful. No doubt we shall visit when we are in the area again.

My friend Gareth and i (Keith)go out for breakfast every few weeks, we enjoy trying different cafes and restaurants and we've had some nice experiences, mostly going to one's in Bury St Edmunds but Gareth saw a sign when driving past the Beyton White Horse Inn that they did a full English breakfast, its a little further than we normally travel (about 6 miles from Bury St Edmunds)but we thought we would give it a go. What a great find, the female chef(can't remember her name ,sorry )was very friendly and she is a great cook, we were served up a large full English Breakfast which also had fried bread (a lot of places don't do that)with it and lots of toast, the food was hot and very tasty and served with a large pot of tea and a large container of coffee, great value at only £7.50 each, our experience was even more enhanced by the lovely waitress Julie who was so friendly, smiley and gave us such a brilliant service. Another member of staff was doing a little tidying up nearby (only for 2 or 3 mins)but even she said hello with a smile, the venue was also very clean and tidy..Both Gareth and I highly recommend the Beyton White Horse for their super breakfast and it was hugely worthwhile travelling a few miles, we will be going back for sure in the next few weeks and their evening menu looks very good as well so I will be trying that one day as well, a big thanks from Gareth and I :>) Ps Lots of parking space as well

We called for breakfast and found a member of staff vacuuming the dining room. She was very welcoming and settled us down with menus before putting the cleaner away. The ' Full English Breakfast' was very full. There were lots of items in the menu and as many as desired could be selected. The food came fairly quickly, and was hot and tasty. Our poached eggs looked perfect and were properly cooked but had a bit too much vinegar taste for my liking. The meal came with toast and tea or coffee for an overall price of £7.50, which we thought was good value.

This pub is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get, traditional kind of environment, pleasant surroundings - although the decor looks somewhat dated. It is certainly popular - main bar was busy, and all food tables occupied on a Friday night. The service was slow - we had been there for an hour before the starters arrived - and when the main courses arrived, we felt they were all a little over-cooked, so I guess something went wrong... In any case, the actual food was quite good, but not great, and relatively expensive for pub-grub - we paid £18 each for two courses with one drink. Friendly staff... Would I go again? Yes, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it...

Called with 2 friends and we were all impressed with the large choice of food on offer but we all opted for the £10, 2 course meal. My friends chose the roast pork and I had the ham, egg and chips. My meal consisted of superb tasty ham, a beautifully cooked egg and lovely fat chips. My companions ate evry bit of their meal (to my disappointment!) and this was followed by a choice of three items for dessert and we all chose the black forest gateau. Service was friendly and quick.

Visited for an evening meal with 5 other ladies. Great food at very good prices, extensive menu. They were happy to alter the normal items I.e. vegetables, for salad and chips in seperate bowls, nothing was too much trouble. A lovely atmosphere for a "girls night out". Well recommended.

A super, typical English village with geese on the green and 2 pubs. We had a good lunch here, a rump steak and a mixed grill both for £7.50 each. Generous portions washed down with good beer followed by lovely, home-made desert. Ate in the garden, as it was a really hot day. The pub itself appeared old but really well maintained and clean. However, the highlight was the kitchen staff - really friendly. I hope that the small tip I left went straight to them.

A very extensive menu with very obliging staff! Each meal we have had ( and we've had a lot!) has been tasty and hot - excellent pub food. Gammon steak, mixed grill or rump steak all offered at seven pounds fifty, also a two course menu for ten ponds along side a blackboard menu and the main menu, Steak pie is excellent with proper shortcrust pastry! Give it a try - you won't be disappointed if you want a good pub meal.

We stayed here for one night at the end of July. We were visiting Bury St Edmund's and this place, only about 5 miles away, seemed good. As it turned out, it was better than good and we're already planning the next excursion. The service is excellent and the choice of food is very impressive. There's a separate menu for "home-cooked" food as as well as the usual staples. All the food that we saw and sampled was good quality, unpretentious and generous. The Breakfast was superb. We stayed in Rooms 2 and 6 ( Room 2 has a wet-room for disabled guests) and they were excellent, situated at the rear of the Inn. The White Horse Inn is about 300 yards from the A14, Junction 46.I had originally looked at places to stay in Bury St Edmund's but so pleased that I found this gem: so was the rest of the family!

Two rooms for two nights to attend a local wedding. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by a very lovely lady who showed us to our rooms which were separate from the main building, making it very quiet. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had booked an evening meal which was first class. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere and friendly staff. The thing I loved was that you couldn't really tell the management from the staff as they were all intent on customer service. Breakfast was very well cooked and presented and plentiful with a great choice. I will certainly return and would not hesitate in recommending this great establishment. Hats off to all concerned.

Popped in on the off-chance of getting a gluten free meal. After checking we got a table with a menu with quite a few gf options annotated on the menu. Had battered prawns with a cajun dip which the wife enjoyed. I had the chicken skewer not gf but very nice. Staff very friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced and close to where we were staying.

Very sorry to say our meal was mediocre, which is a shame as I would love to support this community local pub. I felt the menu choices were fairly limited, the only main special was the pie - roast pork and leek, which I thought an odd combo for a pie. I had the chicken burger - the bread was that floppy cheap sort of roll that comes ready cut, the burger was just OK, nothing special. The service was very good however, no complaints there. Maybe we just hit a bad night.
