Betty's Fish Shop in County Durham

I was looking for a decent fish shop, after Reds went down the pan. Betty’s was the second one I tried. The fish and chips are superb quality with huge portions! The young Chinese lad who fries and serves on his own is extremely pleasant. I’ve been going here all year now and cannot fault its very consistent quality. Easy to park right outside as well. Highly recommended!

I have seen Betty's go through so many face lifts through the years, for better or worse but it is definitely at its best right now! The food has always been spot on and accurate and very well priced too. Have not had an issues so far and will be more than happy to keep coming back for more!

I went here at waited 25 minutes for 1 bag of chips everyone else was better fish and chips and they were coming in after me I wish the old owners kept it gone right downhill ever since Never am I going here

I stopped going to this once excellent fish shop quite recently. Since Chinese people have taken it over the standard has dropped considerably. It's not so much the food that is at question, but the attitude of the actual people who own it. On my last and final visit I ordered burger and chips, but left due to the woman at the counter, who I presume to be the owner. On this occasion she was openly ranting and raving at her co-worker, a Chinese man who I also presume to be her husband. This I feel is not the way to carry on in such a setting. Accordingly I chose to walk out of the shop, minus my meal, even after having paid for it. I told the woman that every time I visited her shop they seemed to be arguing, and it wasn't the way to conduct a business. It used to be first names terms and service with a smile, now it's just open aggression, which no one should witness, especially children.

Pretty decent, friendly staff and good value for money, little greasy though, but will definitely go back!

Only been once and the food I ordered was nice. The shop only has a 3 star food hygiene rating though. Which makes me cautious about using it regularly.

Very friendly and the fish and chips are so nice, its a bit more pricey but worth It. The chips and fish didn't taste like other fish shops do where the fat is burnt. It was fresh and clean.

Leaving a review for a few reasons, every time i go home I get a notification asking to leave a review when I live next door, however the couple seems nice as I have popped in for a few cans of coke, Pluss side is they are cold.

Ordered cod/chips/curry sauce and sausage and chips - the batter was light and crisps and the chips lovely and brown and tasty. Would 100% recommend and lovely people too.

Excellent quality food, I can't recommend it enough. Popped in for first time last week for 2 lots of cod, chips and mushy peas. The food was freshly prepared and tasted great. One thing that particularly stood out for me was that my food was carefully wrapped and not just squished into paper and flung into a bag like you often find nowadays. I was really impressed and will definitely be going back there again. Thank you.

Called in for cod and chips and curry sauce. The fish was huge covered in a light non greasy batter chips plentiful and again grease free.The curry sauce complimented everything superbly.

Best fish and chips in Shildon. The place went downhill a few years back with rock hard chips and cold fish but is now back to its best. Nothing better on a Friday night.

Best fish and chips in North East (outside of Whitby and Scarborough). Is in Shildon which is not too far from Darlington, Bishop Auckland and Durham. Excellent value for money. Mouth watering delicious cod. It's a takeaway, not an eat in, but the food is wonderful. Highly recommend.
