Best of British Fish and Chips in Erewash

I sent a message to the 'Best of British' earlier today and received a prompt and nice reply. The fish and chips were delicious and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Gluten free fish and chips are served every day. Unfortunately we don't live in the area but I wanted to say how good it was to receive great quality and service.

Excellent gluten-free (and non-gluten-free!) fish & chips served at all times that they are open. Staff were very welcoming and made us comfortable eating at one of the tables available inside, at no extra charge.

Worked in Long Eaton for 18 months visited 3/4 different fish and chip shops in this area this is the best. Would recommend to all.

Can't rave about this place enough: the fish and chips have been lovely on every visit, the peas are a proper mushy pea not violently green. The gravy, my partner calls gorgeous, and I would advise anyone to try them. Simply lush 😋

Working up here from sheffield I text ahead of my visit about parking nearby . So glad I stopped here for chip's and fish. wish this chippy was on my doorstep the food was fantastic cooked in beef dripping 😋 the staff was very friendly 5 stars

Specifically chosen because they have a dedicated gluten free fryer. Choice of fish & cooked to order with a short wait. Great value for money because the fish was big & there was plenty of chips.

Real chippy. Wrapped in paper. Cooked in beef dripping. Decent thick bit of cod. There’s a couple of popular chains in the area. This place is far superior. Just wish they were open later.

This is the place for fish and chips! We got a large cod and it was the biggest I've ever seen, the chips were lovely too. They do gluten free every day including battered sausages and even gluten free vinegar. Staff were very friendly. We will be back! 🙂

Great fish and chips! The staff are lovely and kind. Has a small seating area inside but they do have outdoor seating at the back of there no space. What great about this place is that they cook their fish on demand so it always be fresh.

I am happy to support the only fish and chips shop in the area that still use traditional beef drippings (instead of toxic vegetable oil) to cook their food everyday. The other one only do them Mondays. This is actually healthier than most chip shops. Try the battered chips.

Wow…. As in the name … THE BEST of British fish & Chip Shop! I am Coeliac and after a quick google found this absolute gem! We were served by Derek who was so helpful with my Coeliac needs, very informative and great care for no cross contamination… ! I have never had such beautiful, crunchy and delicious batter…. Soft perfect melting white fish … and THE most scrumptious beef dripping chips that were the best I have EVER had and all Gluten free!!!! My partner had ‘normal’ fish & chips and also said that they were the best he has EVER had. Sorry didn’t have chance to take a pic of the food… so the empty plates will have to do for now! Now the one and only chippy for us…. See you soon 😊

I had the Mini Fish n Chips with mushy peas and it was great. Nice clean shop with a friendly staff. I’d highly recommend.

I came here for lunch and I really enjoyed the mini fish and chips. You can really taste the beef fat it’s cooked in, it wasn’t greasy but really nice, good portions for the price.

Excellent chips. Offered fresh chips on a cook to order and had a good value meal deal of sausage, chips and peas for £3. Even bought the wife some and we sat in the local car park and scoffed them. I know how to treat a girl.

After my wife found this chippy with their gluten free option, and loved it, I had fish and chips too. The best fish and chips, just lovely! Chunky and white fish. The gluten free batter is great. Tasty chips round off a cracking fish and chips! Friendly folk too. Thank you.

Oh my this was wonderful. I'm gluten free and struggle with finding somewhere suitable on the days I fancy fish and chips. I had a Google and found this absolute gem. I never knew it existed until tonight. Gave them a call to check times and popped down. They do gluten free every day of the week!!! It was amazing. So, so tasty. Not greasy at all. I always come here when i visit Long Eaton (i really wish the owner would open one in Nottingham so i can visit even more often!) The fish is always made fresh to order, the batter always crispy and spot on, chips are always hot and taste just right. I did notice the last person to review this place left it a negative response - maybe they got the wrong chippy? I also noticed they have only ever left one review - that one negative review. Sounds fishy... ive never had a bad experience at this place and ive been coming here along time. If you are in or around Long Eaton - get yourself here. Ask for a battered Mars Bar (i cant get over how good they are!)

To be fair, the gentleman who usually does the frying wasn't in attendance last Friday. However, we ordered our usual fish & chips but on this occasion we were very disappointed with what was served to us. The batter, on our fish was soggy, very greasey and had that wet, white stickiness about it on the inside. It was as though the fish were fried in fat which was at a lower temperature than usual?! (no batter bits on offer, that's a clue). The operative on the frier might be in need of some training/coaching? It was so bad that we might not return and we are regulars not passing trade. I'm writing this review to give open and honest feedback. The Best of British is/was one of the best fish and chip shops in Derbyshire. Can you really afford to let your standards slip so badly? I'm not interested in FREE food as compensation and I won't be calling you to discuss the matter.

So good we travel up from Leicester. Try the battered chips! The other chip shop (cods scallops) does amazing black pudding fritters but the chips there are a bit dry. The chips here are much nicer.

I went to the theatre in long eaton on Saturday evening and so before hand came here for my 2nd visit. My friend and I were greeted as we came in, and soon placed our orders. Couldnt ask for a better chippy dinner! Fish and chips done right. I was naughty and ordered a battered mars bar after (see photo) - if you havent tried you must! Its was a guilty pleasure moment for me! In all very happy with the service, the food and the price!

Good value great Yorkshire fish cake.

I went in here today as my partner had told me they do gluten free (I'm coeliac). I was amazed to find they do gluten free alternative with most foods if not all, they use a separate frier, keep the gluten free far away from normal food. They were incredibly careful and although ordering gf food is annoying for most establishments, it really seemed no bother to them. Also they don't hike the price up ! The staff are so lovely, the place is spotless and boy was the food good! I will now not go to another chippy unless away from home!

Probably the best chip shop I’ve visited. It’s a traditional fish and chip shop which serves proper cod not the undersized fish that you find in most chip shops nowadays. If you have an appetite you must try their Mega Fish.

25 minute wait then they decide they haven't put the order in to cook, fast food ? Better go elsewhere

Visited best of British for the first time on Friday night. (12/04/2019)The rear of the chip shop is located on the marketplace so ideal location for car parking.It is also, in close proximity to a pub, which would make it ideal for visiting on summer evenings.On the approach it has a very inviting smell, reminiscent of seaside holidays as a child.There are two tables just inside the entrance so you are able to sit in and dine if you want to again making it ideal for a quick and easy place to eat out after work. Ordered two cod, a portion of fish bites, two large portions of chips, fishcake, Large large mushy peas, and two large cartons of Beans.It was all cooked nicely particularly the fish which remind moist inside covered with light crisp batter (very tasty) this comment also applies the fish bites.The chips were nice and light in both texture and consistency (not greasy)In conclusionGreat little eatery ideal for summer evening out after work or after a pub craw The one negative was they forgot to pack the fishcake but spoke to the proprietor and he said he would sort me out on my return so great excuse to go in again can’t wait to try the mega cod highly recommende

I stopped off in Long Eaton on the way home from work last week to do a bit of shopping and grab some lunch. I stumbled across this little gem! I ordered cod and chips - and it was made to order! Ive read another review on here about the food being cold...i burnt my tongue! The food was hot and very tasty. I always have salt and vinegar but never ketchup as this overpowers the taste of the food! The chips were cooked just right and the cod batter was a nice golden colour, and the fish inside was perfect. Sadly i dont live in Long Eaton, so please - open another shop in Nottingham city or close to it! If im ever in the area again however, i will deffo be back.

Hi everyone this is my second visit to this chippy take note don’t bother first visit the fish bites where soggy chips where cold complained got the same again for free wow I found the staff to be very rude the manager was rude as though she didn’t care one little bit she over talked me on the phone bad manners Second visit 4/419Ordered chips medium and fish bites oops yet again fish bites where horrible n cold, chips where cold and some where hard the bread cob was not buttered it looked like it was buttered on one side and placed on the other so it looked like they had both been buttered £5.60 not good never again rang the chippy she was funny with me il defo not be going there again take my advice try some other chippy Photo of chips that’s a medium chips

My wife and I visited at around 12 midday on Friday 22nd February. My wife has to have gluten free items and fish prepared and cooked in this manner are not easily come by. We we greeted by a very personable young man Jamie. He made us feel very welcome . We made the order and he said that the offer included peas and a hot drink. He then suggested that if we sat at an outside bench in the unseasonable sunshine, that he would bring the meal out when it was ready!. A wonderful gesture a great price for a tasty meal. In all an excellent experience. Well done that man!.

For someone with a gluten allergy this place is a godsend. It's nigh on impossible to get gluten free fish and chips anywhere (some places offer it one night a week) but Best of British had their own dedicated fryer so anything was possible, including pineapple or mars bar fritters off the menu. This is not why I've given it five stars but because the battered cod and chips was simply perfect and at a reasonable price too. Excellent friendly service too so I wish these guys best of luck for the future

Absolutely love the place, best Gluten free fish and chips I have ever eaten, nice and crispy! Also my daughter had multiple allergies and never had a problem and she loves it! To top it all off it’s very good price too! Top notch!

Been here twice this week for there Gluten Free fish and chips. Food was spot on. They even do gluten free pineapple fritters and gf potato fritters. Definitely be coming back, when I'm down this way again.. It's a Thumbs up from me 👍🙂

The fryer guy knows how to treat a fish and they use a nice flavorsome haddock too. Portions could be better, esp chips. Food served in a box. Nice picnic table outside round the back for summer. Value is not as special as it used to be but still OK.

I was really impressed with the food and service here. It's not easy to find gluten free fish and chips and this place will cook them freshly on request daily. Also the staff were really friendly and we sat out on the benches at the back and they brought the food out too us. We will definitely be back.
