First meal at the Fingerpost since the new people took over (only had a drink prior to this). The beer was a proper one – Timothy Taylor (not just the usual IPA everyone seems to have these days), and well kept. I ordered Beef Rendang as this would be a real change. It was a good portion and really good blend of flavours. My wife had Hunters chicken (hold BBQ sauce), again good flavour and a big portion (took half the chicken home). The chips were clearly cooked at the same time as the main dish rather than the usual pre cooked then put to one side to dish up later. Unusually I did try the desert so had a sticky toffee pudding which really was home made and a great flavour. The general feel of the place was very good unfussy but tastefully done. Music was good choice and volume so we did not need to shout to each other to be heard. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Apparently going to undertake more decoration imminently so it seems they do not want to rest on their laurels Will certainly try again (soon I hope) and see how some of the other dishes compare. They should do well if this visit is to go by and the pub is in a lovely location so they do have good basics.

Car park littered. Not the best start to the meal when you step out of your car on to broken glass and mud. Dirty, shabby dining room in dire need of decorating. No soap or toilet tissue in both ladies and disabled toilets. Food was just a nuclear hot microwaved pre-cooked dish of mush.

Four of us went on Saturday evening. Pub in nice position by the canal, staff friendly. Starters OK & 3 main courses OK. Sirloin steak awful, ordered medium rare but came very well done. Sent steak back & replacement not nice at all, would be difficult not to over cook as was so thin. Such a shame as want to support local independent business, due to position could be a god business.

Thoroughly disappointed, basic menu and really just average food, after waiting nearly an hour for our order, we were presented with the bill, we explained we hadn't even eaten, we did find this comical tbh. The mains eventually came and they were'nt the best, the chips were as if they'd been cooked ages ago and reheated in a microwave, the meals generally were quite poor, also our starter arrived about ten minutes after we'd started eating the mains. The waitress asked how everything was, l gave her my honest opinion, without being rude, she aplogised and asked if wanted to order anything else, errrrm no thankyou. Disappointed as we had high hopes! We won't be recommending to anyone, or returning.

First visit back to The Fingerpost Pub Pelsall since it changed hands. What an improvement. Very warm welcome, excellent food, dog friendly. Twyla was very pleased to have fresh water brought to her and settled really well - she really likes it on the decking. The lunch menu is slimmed down from before but still has plenty of choice. We tried the pasta and the fish and chips. Good size portions and cooked fresh - very yummy in deed. We certainly can recommend and will be coming back.

Just visited with my family and was very disappointed. My daughter in law and myself had Lamb Kleftico. I was being treated and didn’t want to complain but the lamb was so tough it was inedible. The potatoes were just about warm and the other vegetables (2 pieces of carrot, beans and red cabbage) were cold. I did mention it to the young lady who cleared the table but she didn’t pass any comment. If I had been there by myself I wouldn’t have paid.

Walked down again on Friday evening about 6.15 to be told they have a couple of large parties in and only a small kitchen, we'd have to wait until 7 to 7.30 to order food. We live about 3 to 4 miles from the pub but are lucky enough to be able to walk to it via the local trails and canal towpaths. Lovely pub in a nice location next the canal. Definitely not the cheapest place to eat and drink but it isn't expensive either compared to some other places. Staff were very efficient and friendly and the food was very nice (I had the Fingerpost burger and my wife had the chicken burger which we both enjoyed). Went for a family Sunday lunch of 6. Starters of pork belly was nice but a little cold. Mains of roast beef included enough meat but spoilt because not enough vegetables or roast potatoes. Desert was a little on the mean side as well. A bit more effort would have made a lot of difference. On the plus side the waitress and bar staff were lovely.

We booked a table for lunch and when we arrived the eating area was quite with only 2 other tables taken. We ordered 2 courses each. Over an hour and 20 mins for the starters which were tiny portions although tasty. 6 rings of squid balanced on croutons?!. The mains took a further 30 mins after the plates were collected, The roasts were decent portions lots of meat, the gammon was fatty, and very thick slices. The roasted veg was tough to cut and what seemed like shop brought stuffing balls were dry. We had waited far too long with no apology and the food wasn’t worth the wait. Shame as the place has lovely outdoor space and the prices very reasonable. I really wanted to like it but sadly not worth a second visit.

We have been casual users of the Fingerpost for many years but never eaten there under the current owners. We were warmly greeted by a pleasant young lady who served us drinks, prices comparable with similar pubs.We hadn't planned to eat but having looked at the menu gave it a try. The food arrived freshly cooked and in good time and although portions weren't massive it was very nice. The smaller tapas dishes seemed popular and looked very nice. After eating we sat outside on the decking area, again much improved by the new owners. After such a nice visit it would be a shame to mention any negatives but do feel the dining experience would be enhanced by the doors being reintroduced separating the bar and dining area, this would ensure diners were not subjected to the foul language been used by a small group of middle aged men in the bar.

Saturday evening reunionAlways been a big fan of the pub, unfortunately they have never been able to establish a core of business and cant cope with more than 6 people at the same time! Table was booked for 7:30, 45 mins after the order we were told that some items werent available and then after an hour the meals started to come out. There were 9 in the party but the first ones were virtually finished by the time the last meals were served (about 15/20 mins later). Unfortunately the last two which were lamb shank were both cold - could have come straight out of the fridge. They were sent back and the staff were understanding and offered a round of drinks as an apology. Apart from the cold lamb, items were missing - garlic bread, jam. Food was well presented though. So disappointing for a pub with so much potential

This place has had so many re-launches over the past couple of years we have almost lost count and given up on it, but we so hope that the current proprietors can keep it going as they have really made an effort with a warm and friendly welcome and an imaginative and innovative menu. My chicken chasseur was excellent and well presented, and the venison and beef pies looked delicious with plenty of meaty chunks and 'proper' pastry, as against that ubiquitous 'puffy stuff' which floats on the top of the dish and disintegrates when you cut into it! The steak was pronounced very good indeed, and another interesting alternative on the menu is a selection of three small plates for £12 which I might try next time (and there will certainly be a next time) For those interested, there is a dog-friendly area and,of course, the re-furbished deck over-looking the canal in the summer. The only reason I have not given it 5 stars is that we still think it could benefit from a slightly better ambience. Maybe a few candles or night-lights in jars on the tables, chequered table-cloths maybe, and perhaps some brighter pictures or posters on the walls would give it a bit more atmosphere - it still all seems a bit on the drab side.Overall, however, a vast improvement and we wish them well for the future in building up a regular clientele.

Went in with a party of 4 for Sunday lunch at 13:25. The restaurant was not overly busy for a Sunday lunchtime, and there were plenty of spare tables, but we were immediately told that we could order, but food would not arrive until after 14:00 because a large group (12 or 14) were in. We thought this was OK, so we ordered and sat down with drinks. 14:00 came and went, and the first course arrived shortly before 15:00 (approximately 90 minutes after our arrival), followed by the main course at 15:45 - almost 2.5 hours after we'd ordered. The food was nice, but the wait was simply unacceptable, so much so that when we were then faced with waiting for dessert, we decided to cut our losses and leave. Only at this point did a member of staff come across and apologise for the delay. I can understand and accept that problems occur, but front of house and management staff should have made more effort to explain to customers what was happening. It wasn't just us that were delayed - the large group next to suffered a 45 minute delay between the first main meal arriving and the last! The pub is in a fantastic position, and it should be busy all the time, but if they continue to operate like this they may find that customer good will deserts them and diners seek alternative sources.

I wrote about this restaurant previously, and rated it highly. I must amend that. A large party were booked in for my birthday, When the day arrived, we were told there was "a limited menu". It certainly was! There wasn't any mashed potatoes; nor puddings as the fridge had broken down. If I had been told earlier, I could have looked elsewhere. The children were very disappointed - no ice- creams. When I asked for a reduction in the bill, I was told the pubs policy didn't allow it. Over £100! We haven't been back since and we WERE regular cutomers.

With this pub being local to all my family and friends I booked a table for 20 of us for a Sunday afternoon at 12. I visited the pub about 4 days prior to the day to confirm and ask where about we would be seated so I could plan what banners and balloons to bring. I asked the member of staff on the bar at the time if it would be easier if I could get the food orders before hand and ring them in, they said yes but a £5 per head would have to be paid - getting 20 food orders plus £5 off everyone proved quite difficult and I didn’t manage to do it which in all fairness I didn’t think would be a problem. I had a phone call off the pub 1 hour before my table was booked to say I hasn’t put my food order in! I explained it was too difficult and he hung up without explaining any issues. For me to then turn up 1 hour later - balloons, banners and presents in toe to be greeted at the door to be told our table had been cancelled was added stress I did not need!

Went for my wife's birthday, no beers or ales, only lager's, barman needs a course in basic customer service, more interested in his phone, curtains still closed, carpet not hoovered from previous evening, to be fair the food was good, but complete lack of welcome and atmosphere means won't be visiting again.

Another pub with only 1 real ale, despite there being 4 hand pumps. Ale was average, had better of the same type the same day at another pub. Young lady on duty at the bar was friendly & helpful. Pub was quiet. Surprised the rugby wasn’t showing despite their being TV’s in the pub.

I have to say I was extremely disappointed with our Mother’s Day lunch today. The food took 1 and a half hours to come and it was terrible. The vegetables were black and I mean black burnt carrots and burn leaks, the sausage on the mixed grill was rock solid and black, meals were cold and were sent back, and the onion rings were swimming in fat, I can’t really say anything positive about the food at all. When I told them we were all disappointed and hadn’t eaten much they said I am sorry to hear that and here is the bill they didn’t even bat an eyelid. The only reason I didn’t put 1 star is the pub is actually quite nice but the food has left a lot to be desired. It is safe to say we won’t be going back.

After booking a table for 7 adults and 1 baby, we get there to be told that the 2 high chairs they own are currently in use, so we would have to wait for a high chair to become available. After sitting there for around 10 minutes we had to ask for a menu, as only the specials menu was on the table. We then order our food and waited for a whole hour and a half after having 3 different staff members telling us ‘it was just being plated’ this went on for 30mins. We then went to find out what was going on and the food happened to arrived. I wish we could say it was worth the wait but unfortunately it certainly was the opposite. Let’s just say it comes to something when a 5 year old and a 1 year old refuse to eat it because it was that bad. I ordered a mix grill and it was black through and through. Everything had that burnt taste which made it all taste disgusting and inedible. The sausage looked like it had been cooking all week. We also had to request steak knives as we were just left with butter knives. My father ordered a rib-eye steak which had obviously been plated up and left for a while as the whole meal was stone-cold and had to be sent back and miraculously came back 2 minutes later with warmer chips. The ‘peppercorn’ sauce should be called ‘watery cream sauce’ as that’s all it was. After that nobody came to our table to check if it was ok. We then had to fight our way to the bar to pay through all the customers waiting to be seated, we explained to the staff member how awful it all was and the reply was sorry about that just put in your card and enter your pin... it’s safe to say we most definitely will not be returning here and will be sure to let all family and friends know not to waste their money here like we did. What a lovely Mother’s Day meal that turned out to be!

Visited on a Saturday evening as a family of 3. Have held off visiting due to negative reviews both on Tripadvisor and local Facebook pages. Let’s just say we’ll be back! If you’re expecting high end ‘different’ food you’ll be disappointed. What they do is ‘pub grub’ cooked, presented and served very well. We had three totally different meals and all were enjoyed. Service from the young gentleman behind the bar was exceptional. Would happily take friends and family here

Bar guy very friendly and accommodating Food was good, lovely views across the canal and fields, halfway through the meal some guy at the bar became quite loud when trying to get his point of view over and his language was totally unacceptable but I spoke to the bar guy and he went and sorted it saying that he did not allow that sort of going on in a family environment and offered us a free bottle of wine to apologise he did not need to do this but insisted as he didn't want the experience to leave a sour taste. We shall certainly go again as its a very pleasing place, you can sit out on the deck and eat and take you dog with you, I would think on a summer evening it would be a great place to go to.

I visited The Fingerpost with 3 friends on a Saturday afternoon, it was a nice day and there are not many better places in the area to sit and have a drink. Situated on the canal it is out of the way enough to seem secluded but only a few minutes from the centre of Pelsall.

As a cook in a busy kitchen. My birthday treat was to eat out. Decided to go to the fingerpost.i ordered a gammon and pineapple with a salad no chips and a side of coleslaw. The meal came with chips and a small salad. Containing unwashed lettuce. I know this because I had the brown ends of the lettuce on my plate. I spoke to the waiter. He apologised took the meal away.said he would take the chips off and put a salad on. I only wishes I had my phone to take a picture. They cut a cooking onion in to pieces. Chunks as big as 50p and threw it in with a bit of tomatoes. I asked the waiter what the hell it was. He said he was so sorry and he would make a salad for me himself. Which he did and it was fresh and lovely with peppers red onion lettuce and Tom. Still no cucumber. He offered me a dessert for free. I said no. And i had a coffee instead. Not blaming the waiter at all. But the staff they got ain't got a clue. Bar staff were slow. Kitchen staff and waitresses need a lesson in food prep. If I had sent food out like that. Not once but twice to the same person. I'm sure my boss would have been on me like a ton of bricks. Overall the birthday meal was off to a bad start. But on the upside. The gammon and my husband's steak were beautiful. But will hesitate about going back in future. Unless they sort themselves out.

The last time we had a meal here a while back it was pretty dire, but based on hearsay we gave it another try and there seems to have been a considerable improvement. The menu is not huge but it's better they keep it simple and know they can deal with it rather then try to be too ambitious and fail. We all got what we ordered and the food was good and hot, which was more that can be said about our previous visit! The young lad who served us was very pleasant and efficient and we shall definitely be coming back. The pub has a lovely setting, especially in the summer when you can sometimes sit outside, and it's a double bonus for us that they are happy to accommodate well behaved dogs in one section of the restaurant. We wish them well.

Beautiful Sunday lunch. Crispy roast potatoes, tender meat, gravy to die for. Even the dogs were given a couple of biscuits each. We love the staff in here, they always so friendly and accommodating.

I visited the finger post pub with my friend this week, because I'd raved about the view from the decked out terrence overlooking the canal. The pub itself is very clean, fairly inviting and only one customer noted, as well as myself and friend, on the afternoon. A drawback is the toilets are upstairs, definitely not disable friendly.I ordered both drinks and food. The gentleman (barman) had to collect a further supply of lime cordial from the cellar for our lemonade and lime drinks. This is were the constructive criticism comes in: good costumer care would have been, 'if you take a seat and I'll bring the drinks out to you'. BUT this didn't happen Understandably if the pub was busy it wouldn't be expected, but as mentioned there was just three costumers. Plus I had to wait while he went to the cellar. The lime cordial: I doubt if it ever came close to seeing a lime, certainly didn't taste or appear to be of good quality. The meals came quite promptly, I order fish because you can't really go wrong with battered fish. But sadly the fish was flavourless, nameless and half was very dry and over cooked. The mushy peas had a dried outer crust were they had probably microwave too long. The chips were just bland frozen chips. My friend's meal wasn't much better, but we ate what we could because we were both hungry, but I left half of mine.Another pointer for costumer care: we didn't realise that you had to collect the cutlery from the service station, when I asked the chef about cultery, he stated were to find them........Good costumer care moment: what was stopping him from collecting the cutlery for us? He didn't seem busy.We were not approached by staff about whether our meal was satisfactory or not?I paid £10.50 for my meal and drink, if I was paying about £5.00-£6.00 then I'd put the poor quality down to the price.Maybe they should take a look at a great example to fine fish and chips at George's Great British Kitchen, I like the one in Nottingham town centre. admittingly it's a tad more expensive, but you don't mind if you receive quality products and costumer care.TRADITIONAL WILD OCEAN COD100% sustainable tender fillet of cod, sourced from the clear waters of the Norwegian and Icelandic seas. Served with twice cooked chips, mushy peas, chunky tartare sauce and a few pickles. £13.25This place is Brilliant. Nottingham RestaurantQueens Street | Nottingham | NG1 2BL0115 950 5521I didn't complain at the time and I wish I had, but when I was so looking forward to seeing and enjoying my friends company, it was such a let down. Plus I feel stressed having to criticise and I shouldn't have to, on what should have been an enjoyable afternoon. We both work extremely hard, so when we can mange to meet up it needs to be a good experience.I hope my comments are taken on board, because it;s a lovely pub, but needs some passion and dynamism thrown in.Sadly to say I shall not be going again.Regards.

This is a lovely place to sit for coffee especially today as it was a lovely day sat at on a bench by the pool glorious except the little table was covered in droppings front the ducks as the lady brought our cake she was about to put it down until I showed her the table which had not been cleaned it look like at all today we sat on another table to be served but why aren't these tables looked at more regular. A gentleman did come out later armed with a bucket gloves apron and blue roll to clean it but this is not exceptable for such a place .

Breakfast looked lovely on arrival although did arrive within minutes of ordering which I thought was strange, first mouthful was cold and my husband exactly the same. When raised with the supervisor she said she would get it replaced. 2 minutes later the exact plates returned and when asked they confirmed they had been microwaved. This is not being replaced and nothing was obviously temperature checked prior to serving. Discusting, full refund given but I felt this was to keep us quiet and not spoil the 'posh' atmosphere they try and perceive. Another table next to us advised they had to complain about the temperature of food also. When asked for the manager i was told 'she isn't in today" How can £30 worth of breakfast be served cold and when raised just popped in the microwave and brought back out . Absolutely appalling and a health hazard. Been coming here for years but definitely Won't be returning.
