The food is generally very good and fresh. However, the fish batter is too thick and not thoroughly cooked. Nevertheless, the fish itself is very clean and fresh. The staff are also very good—friendly and helpful.

After a long day of sightseeing, we came here to recharge and were not disappointed. The fish and chips were incredibly delicious, the atmosphere was very pleasant, and our waiter was exceptionally attentive and friendly. We were completely satisfied.

We ordered battered haddock with mushy peas. The quality of the ingredients was high and the taste of the food was lovely. The staff were so polite and kind. With special thanks to Ms. Zoe, our waitress, with the friendly and welcoming manner of whom we had a much more pleasant experience.

The worst fish and chips I've ever eaten, the place we preferred based on Google score. It would be better if they produced quality and delicious products instead of boasting about their record service time of 34 seconds. The coating on it is very oily and thick, the fish inside is probably frozen, it is very tasteless and does not deserve the money paid, do not choose it. Fabrication production…

The best fish and chips I have ever had. Restaurant has a great atmosphere. Dine in service was okay, but the man at the take away counter was great! If you are in Edinburgh and you don’t go here, you are missing out. I also noticed they had many vegetarian options which is a plus.

Needed a quick bite before a gig. This was a takeaway order. The food was ok but it took a while to arrive at the front desk. Hanging around a reception while waiting for the food was an odd experience too.

Fish & Chips but worth spending time for… Fine street food.

Fish and chips are delicious and the sides are also delicious. Maybe there is a designated ordering area for the employees, but the employees don't come often. It took a long time to order. But anyway, it was better than the fish and chips I had in London.

We had dinner upstairs and it was really enjoyable. They informed us in detail about halal food options even before we asked. Throughout the United Kingdom, if you have children with you, you are always a priority, and here too, they won our hearts with events and special menus. My only comment for fish&chips was that it was delicious.

Super quick service, great tasting food. Only potential issue is the high ceilings meaning those sensitive to noisy environments might need to bring earplugs or similar to reduce input. Was craving fish and chips and the haddock was well battered and prepared. Just the right amount of crispy.

Nothing exceptional. The best thing is the attention and service from the employees, they are very friendly and are very attentive to everything. We went without a reservation for dinner and although it was full we didn't wait 10 minutes at the bar and we were already seated. As for the food, it was good, it was not my favorite, we ordered fish and chips, haggis and some beers. The best place to try fish and chips.

Being allergic to fish but being in a group I did not want to deprive my group of fish and chips so we went there despite my allergy. Firstly the saleswoman was execrable, she allowed herself a remark about my allergy saying that I should not come here with such an allergy. We are not in France but I think that there are still a minimum of standards to be able to eat without fish in such a restaurant. Don't go there you could disturb

Today we visited Berties Proper Fish & Chips in Scotland, as it had a very high rating. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite a disappointment. After our starters, our main courses were forgotten, and 3–4 tables who arrived after us were served before us. Rather than offering an apology, the staff responded with excuses, which was quite disappointing. As for the food itself, it was overly greasy and, in our opinion, not very tasty.

Better than most fish and chips I've had in England!

The portions of food was nice big and really nice.But they had some unappropriate items for kids that i dont want to say the staff was really kind tho and really nice.The atmosphere was really great tho and really felt like those restaraunts in the films

You have to look closely at the ticket, they added three pounds of “voluntary tip” to us without telling us anything and directly stating the price of the food adding the tip.

Nothing to say, everything is good. The setting is very nice, the waitresses are smiling and attentive to their customers. Remember to book.

For the location you go up to the first floor. We had fish and chips, a little too greasy. Good beer, healthy environment. Good and nice girls who serve.

Great food (big portions) and atmosphere. My table was looked after by Thomas who was lovely and very attentive.

Brilliant pre-booking system, which is especially useful for larger groups. They catered to all dietary requirements and preferences. Mains, desserts & drinks were delicious and staff was very friendly

The taste of the food was OK. The failure to provide any eating utensils when specifically requested, and the additional delay for their delivery manager to check with who filled the order about the missing utensils AND missing sauces is why they get 2 stars. If it wasn’t for the food being pretty decent, I would have only given 1 star. Customer service non-existent (and the delivery driver from Deliveroo was extraordinarily rude, can’t believe we tipped 5 pounds to that jerk).

I was in Edinburgh for only four days and I ate at Bertie's twice. The first time I had the haggis spring rolls and calamari. The second I had fish and chips. Both meals were delicious, and I will be sure to visit Bertie's the next time I'm in the area.

I would actually call this a Proper Fish and Chips. Tried few fish and chips back in Glasgow, was totally disappointed. If you’re in Edinburgh, in search for a fish and chips, here you go.

After a long day touring thru the Highlands and Glasgow we needed a good meal and Bertie's did not disappoint. 2 x battered haddock + 1 x mushy peas + 1 x slaw was just perfect with 2 ciders. The fish and chips were cooked perfectly with good sized serves and the mushy peas tasty + slaw with a hint of pepper were a perfect combination. Highly recommend.

We were worried this was going to be a tourist trap as it’s the only place that we were not personally recommended to. However, the hype it’s true, definitely recommend and will hold to my new gold standard when it comes to fish and chips. My husband and I ordered one battered haddock, one slaw and the squid, which was perfect for the two of us, I don’t think we would have been able to eat two orders of the haddock. The frozen margarita was also on point and highly recommended it for any margarita lovers. We finished the meal with a lovely brownie :)

This is a fish and chips shop that I've been interested in for a while. I ordered delivery, and the fish and chips were delicious! I was also interested in the haggis spring rolls, so I ordered them, and they were also delicious. Next time I'd like to try them in the shop♪

Nothing else to say other than: perfect! I'm vegetarian and I was looking for a place that served veggie Fish and Chips, and wow, I wasn't disappointed. The chips were perfectly cooked, the sauce that came with them was amazing and the "fish" itself was unreal, it looked like proper fish and tasted amazing! I would definitely recommend, I can't wait to be back!

A very good fish and chips experience. Service was quick and efficient. The dinning area was very noisy for me. The food was delivered quick and very good. We shared the breaded haddock and the battered haddock. Both were very good. I preferred the breaded haddock (the special fish supper) my partner preferred the battered.. A fine place for fish and chips in the city.

If you want to eat the best Fish and Chips possible come here! In 4 days we have eaten here twice and it has always been up to par. We have hardly had to wait for a table, the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the product and the people who work here are super nice, as is the place. Out of 10!

I walked into this restaurant by chance, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made recently! I went there for dinner on my first day in Edinburgh, and it was hands down the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Just try it. I enjoyed the food so much that I went back the next day to try the Steak Pie, and it was just as amazing. Special thanks to Rebecca, who was incredibly kind and welcoming. Highly recommended!

The setting is quite nice but the fried foods aren't great. The onion rings look like they have been cooked several times. Look for the onion…too much oil. The fries are really not good even though they boast on the menu specifying that they are fried in two baths. As a fish & chips experience, frankly it's very average.

This was a great find. We had just arrived in Edinburgh and came across Berries. The restaurant is upstairs and busy. We got a table and ordered drinks which cam quickly. Great menu with more than just seafood. We ordered fish and chips with bread and butter. Food arrived quickly and piping hot. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Really enjoyed our dinner and would happily recommend.

The food we received was great. My friend didn't like her meal but it was down to her taste not the food. They very kindly gave us a discount without us asking for one. Very impressive service.

Fish and chips were absolutely amazing. Wait wasn't very long, we went on a Wednesday around 2pm. Service was quick. My only complaint was waiting for our tab. The girl cleaned and swept all the tables around us, before bring our tab. I even had to ask for her to bring it and she still kept cleaning tables. When us Americans are finished, we want to pay and leave. Other than that it was wonderful.

Ordered the battered haddock with chips/curry sauce/mushy peas and battered sausage with chips/baked beans. Very generous portions, both hubby and me were stuffed. Our server Natalia was very friendly and helpful 😊 nice restaurant area upstairs.

This is without a doubt the best fish and chips I've ever had and I've had lots. An absolute must visit if you're in the area, it's a really clean place and very comfortable inside, it has ample seating and the staff were all great, I will definitely be back again.

This is clearly the premiere fish and chip restaurant in Edinburgh, if not Scotland. The staff were exceptionally friendly, efficient and customer leaning. Prices were very reasonable and the food high quality. Highly recommended.

Food was actually tasty but be aware that is not granted that food are gluten or soy free, there's cross contamination. Staff members are very friendly.

We had a fantastic time at Bertie’s! 10/10 The atmosphere, the food and the service were amazing.
