Bertie's in Calderdale

We celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary on 20th July and our booking with Bertie’s was made at very short notice. Due to being let down by our previous venue. I was therefore feeling quite stressed. I needn’t have worried We had a meeting with Emma, Events Manager, and from the beginning of that meeting all my stressed and worries were taken away, Emma guided us through everything offering suggestions, advice etc. The party was perfect. The Maitre De, the DJ, the bar staff were so attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was delicious. The DJ was fabulous. Music was exactly what we wanted, If anyone reading this review is still thinking about booking Bertie’s my advice is don’t hesitate, just do it. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

We held my dad’s wake at Bertie’s. The staff, food and venue were excellent. I would definitely recommend Bertie’s to anyone.

I organised my mums surprise 50th birthday celebration here and it went perfect. The venue is beautiful and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had the crystal ballroom and it was great, we also hired the food and dj with the Berties and they did a fantastic job too. Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience, my mum absolutely loved it. X

We have had Had two parties at Bertie’s this year, mine and my husbands 60th birthdays . The venue is great. We used the large crystal ballroom for my husbands and the smaller cocktail lounge for mine. The staff are brilliant and do everything to ensure the party goes well. Food is exceptional. We had hot food for one party and cold buffet for another. All was superb. Would definitely recommend Bertie’s.

Afternoon tea for a funeral wake

I can't praise Katie and Emma enough, they were fabulous. I was organising a large funeral and they put me at ease as soon as I spoke to them. They were attentive, caring and professional, and looked after me from the minute I walked through the door. The food was delicious - everybody said the same thing. It could not have been any better.

Berties is perfect venue, we came back for my 50th after getting married there, The room, staff were wonderful..food was delish, photo booth loads a fun ..Thanks to Katie and her team 🥰

First I would like to say a very big THANK YOU to all the staff at Bertie’s. The venue was perfect, 80 people attended my wife’s celebration of life. The staff at Bertie’s couldn’t have been more helpful, Katie, (the manager)was wonderful, her organisation of the event was first class. The chef did me very proud, a perfect selection of hot and cold food, with a desert and Cheese board. Also Bertie’s supplied tea and coffee. I would recommend this venue to anyone wanting a FIRST CLASS venue!

Katie and her team did us proud for a funeral held at Bertie's. Friendly , respectful, helpful every time I rang with a query. Everything went do smooth and was a great relief to the family. Good was excellent and just right for the winters day. Thank you so much.

We have just held our Diamond Wedding at Berties and we are highly delighted at the professionalism of the staff. This commenced as soon as our guests arrived as they were served pre luncheon drinks and canapes. Staff continued to provide an excellent standard of care throughout the function. We were extremely delighted when many, if not all our guests commented on the high quality of care exhibited by all members of staff during the function, particularly when a high percentage commented on the high quality of the food provided. My wife and I have visited 'Berties' on numerous occasions in the past and following our Diamond Wedding luncheon would never hesitate to let staff at 'Berties' organise any future events. Young staff very good but management disgusting the way they speak to them. Just found out they also with hold wages earned by staff when they leave and won't reply back to them. Absolutely rubbish management

Went for a Xmas do. Have been before and the table/ room layout was great. This time it felt like a school dining room!! Staff were great and very attentive, it just felt a bit sterile.

Happy to recommend to any large groups considering functions. Commuication from the team around booking and last minute changes to numbers was exemplary . There was plenty of staffing on the day and the food was delivered promptly and was of a high quality

Went for Christmas party. Very fancy place with bar area and upstairs dining area. Limited options for vegetarians but the salad was delicious. The lemon raspberry cheesecake was to die for, the ragu was ok. The music and host were lovely and the staff was very sweet and helpful. Enjoyed it, also has good parking!

We recently held my husband's funeral tea at Bertie's. The service throughout was excellent. The room is lovely and we had opted for the afternoon tea menu which was served beautifully and of excellent quality. An inspirational suggestion from my daughter. Thank you Bertie's.

Fantastic wedding catering. Highly recommend. Bertie’s came to our home and managed our wedding reception. Food was really, really good. Great quality, made with care and love. (Loads of menu options and will do anything else you want to) We had a house full of hungry people and there was more than they could eat. Especially great staff, who were lovely, helpful and efficient. Beautifully done. They set it up, ran the day, and cleaned it all away. Like magic elves. Even though our boiler broke down on the morning! Thanks very much to all at Bertie’s.

Really nice venue, clean and tidy, attentive and friendly staff. Great to communicate with, well responsive, had a lovely celebration here in the Cocktail Lounge, thank you! I’d consider it an expensive venue to hire, but they do offer packages that might be more value for money so worth looking into those.

Arranged a fantastic birthday party at No1 Brook Street. It was the perfect size for my group of 45. Roxanne was very helpful as we planned all the arrangements. The staff on the evening - especially Keith the DJ - were brilliant. The food was fabulous too- I've had loads of compliments since. Great venue for large gatherings

Organised an event there to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Old Earth School and we all had a blast! Folks loved the whole night, with many coming to tell me how much they'd really enjoyed the meal! Absolutely no complaints from anyone - Thanks Berties.

Large, clean party/celebration venue well positioned in the centre of town.

Food and service were both excellent. The problem with a funeral tea is you don’t know how many people to expect but when we needed more chairs the staff were very responsive. A lovely relaxed place for the family to get together to celebrate someone’s life.

Had my 60th party at berties(no1 brook) the staff were very attentive,they played with the few children invited with the balloons, and supplied chicken nuggets which weren't on the menu the food was amazing,they allowed us during the day access for balloons and cake delivery.the staff couldnt do enough for you,the toilets are clean,and there is a lift.highly recommended. We held a celebration of Life at Berties No1 Brook Street and it was a very successful afternoon, the service was outstanding and catering was excellent. We had our sons wedding reception there and although we did not book everything through Berties, they were extremely accommodating to us, allowing us access to dress the room etc. Oh and wonderful pies.

Yesterday we held a 90 Birthday Party for family and fiends at Bertie’s. As you can imagine a 90th Birthday means that we have attended many many “dos” at Bertie’s various venues which have always been greatly enjoyed. Yesterday was special for us and we were looked after during the planing by Katie where nothing we wanted was too much trouble for her to help us achieve. The actual party where Paul and the staff were on hand to make sure that absolutely everything went smoothly was a total success and our guests , family and friends were looked after perfectly. Thank you all so much for the lovely food, care and attention to detail that we received. A special party to remember.

Halifax Ukrainian Club - Uky Club held our Malanka on the 21st January 2023. We had a fantastic time. The Crystal Ballroom is lovely. All the staff were friendly, polite and a real credit to you. The food was delicious. Our feedback has been that it was a fantastic. From start to finish, a 100% positive experience. We fully recommend BERTIES. Thank to you all. Staff were great, venue is lovely and the food was delicious.

You can see from other December reviews that berties are happy to kick you out in the freezing cold if your taxi doesn’t arrive on time. I asked to speak to Paul the manager that night who said on film he didn’t care if customers didn’t get out that night on time for their raid, all they cared about was the people out of their building in - conditions. Think three times about about your Christmas don2023

Venue really nice. Very festive. Cannot say same about the food. I think Turkey roast was from Iceland.Wrapped in plastic not fantastic. Roast potatoes tasted like they were at least four days old. Bland and cold

Great. Food portions have slimmed down dramatically. I guess cost of living affecting the sector. Delicious as always. Annual Brass band is absent. Perhaps on a different day. D.J's choice of songs are not very Christmas oriented.

Can’t fault anything really except 1 little tiny thing x the portions were very small for what we paid if I’m honest. Table of 10, 1 roast potatoe each and when the dish of veg had gone round some hardly had any and the others didn’t have none ! , cheese cake wasn’t the cheese cake we ordered and some starters didn’t have salmon in when it was a salmon starter “I sound like a karen lol But overall great night , the team made us all happy and had a great laugh ty x

Nice venue with a nice size function room with bar and kitchen facilities. The food provided was very nice using top quality ingredients. We attended a wake here but we're made to feel welcome and the staff were very attentive and left us wanting for nothing.

Bertie’s hosted our Annual Cricket dinner. We had No 1 brook street as our room. Gorgeous room, perfect size. We had a great night everything was perfect from start to finish. Nothing is too much trouble for the team at Bertie’s.

Berties hosted our Saxy Sunday Lunch charity event for the Huntingron Disease Association. They made the whole process easy from start to finish. The ballroom looked absolutely stunning. The food was excellent (especially the roast potatoes!) The staff were very efficient, helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was awesome.! The perfect venue for all occasions. Thank you Berties and well done!

Attended for a charity event. The room was decorated in spectacular fashion. All the staff were pleasant, polite, helpful especially the young lady in charge. Clean and pleasant toilets. The meal was also very good. We'll cooked, efficiently served but needed more roast potatoes! Would recommend this place for a large event. Wedding, celebration, charity event etc. Staff worked on their day off to facilitate event going ahead.

Went here for a wake and although it was a sad occasion. The service was welcoming and the buffet was lovely, plenty of it too. It was an afternoon tea buffet with plenty of choice of sandwiches, chicken wings, quiche and sausage rolls. Tea and coffee. Desserts were plenty, Scones with Jam and Cream ofcourse, Red Velvet cake, Brownies and Lemon Drizzle, plus carrot cake. Everything was delicious. The bar is definitely pricey but would recommend. 😋

Having recently celebrated our 1st Wedding Anniversary Celebration at Berties. We would like to thank Paul and the team. Excellent throughout. A lot of people commented on how excellent the food was. You went out of your way to ensure elderly relatives were able to use the lift and this put a big relief on family as without your support they wouldn’t have been able to attend. Nothing was too much trouble throughout the night so thank you and hopefully we will return for future celebrations.

We were very pleased with our experience with Bertie’s. The staff were very accommodating and helpful through out the process. We had to change the date twice due to our circumstances, this wasn’t a problem for Bertie’s. Our guests were really impressed on the day with how nice everything looked and how hard the staff worked to make the day special for everyone.

Just been to an event here , was charged £8,95 for a large glass of Tempranillo red wine ! When I questioned the price the young bar girl said ‘ it’s expensive Rioja !’ …. What a croc ! It was basic bar wine ! Even in a hotel I wouldn’t expect this price for a glass of chump ! Never again !

Berties is a class venue serving excellent food. The Sunday lunch yesterday was superb. Try Berties for any future event no matter what the occasion. They are always willing to discuss your requirements and adapt to any needs.

I attended one of the Christmas party nights Saturday 18th at Berties. The food was lovely, the atmosphere was great and the staff were very attentive. Good value for money and all round fantastic service. I would definately reccomend Berties to family & friends.

Always a fantastic evening at Berties, food is exceptional considering there is such a large number of us , choice and quality of food is also very good indeed. Throughout the organization of our event Katie and all the team were extremely helpful and proactive and on the night the staff couldn't have been more helpful . Cannot recommend this venue enough.

Good venue, nice staff. Slightly disappointed as a waitress took our bottle of Prosecco away when clearing up, but we had only taken one glass from it. When we mentioned it to them, they said that they couldn't find where they had put it which meant we had to pay £25 for another bottle.

Poor beer and vodka quality sky high prices Lovely setting but really not expect to pay high prices and hats fine but I would also expect high quality as well won’t be going back in a hurry

Had our wedding in July 2021 just after the covid restrictions were lifted and we had the best day of our lifes. The staff were very attentive and made our guest feel welcome.

We held our wedding evening reception in the cocktail lounge in October 2021. We had 80 people and the size of room was absolutely perfect for our party. The food was amazing and the selection of drinks and the prices were excellent. The staff on the night couldn’t do enough for you. Our event had been cancelled twice due to COVID and the events team had been so good when trying to re-arrange our dates. Everyone who came commented on how fantastic the venue was. I would definitely book here again and would highly recommend Berties!

The second party we have had a Bertie’s , and although much delayed due to the pandemic well worth the wait . Fantastic food , great staff and a brilliant DJ . Every one of you (Roxanne, Katie, Paul, Georgina & 2 others helping out with food and setting up on the evening whose names I didn’t get) has been helpful, kind, accommodating and just absolutely lovely…..exactly what you want when you’re organising a ‘do’. Nothing was too much trouble and the whole thing went off without a hitch. Look no further than Berties if you’re looking for a venue ! Food was very nicely presented and served (and tasted great !) The room is very tastefully decorated and the lighting is amazing for photos ! I used ‘Greetings’ in Elland for balloon decorations and again, they were super helpful, very good value for money and delivered and set up the balloons at Berties prior to our arrival. Absolutely Marvellous !

Bertie's hosted a beautiful Afternoon Tea Celebration of my brother Christopher's life. They were so responsive to our needs. The food was wonderful and Bertie's created a space where we could all share our experiences of what an exception person my brother was.

I cannot recommend Berties highly enough. Our event was originally scheduled for June 2020 but had to be postponed twice due to COVID. Katie and Helen and various other members of staff were 100% flexible with all the re-organisations and arrangements and so supportive. Nothing was ever too much trouble. When the night of the (18th Birthday) party finally arrived, everything went like clockwork. The delightful Blane was amazing!! Never without a smile he took care of everything from beautifully arranging the cupcakes and birthday cake that we brought, to answering and dealing with questions and queries and helping with the arrangements for our disabled guests.. After the superb food (EVERYONE said it was delicious!) he single-handedly got everyone involved in the dancing - he knew all the moves and just made sure that everyone had a great time. The room looked absolutely gorgeous. The popcorn and candyfloss machines were a brilliant and novel idea and I loved that they provided the facility to project a slideshow of photos. Seriously I cannot find fault with anything. Thanks to everyone at Berties for making our daughter's birthday party an event to remember forever. We would have no hesitation in booking another event with you.

I recently had my wedding at Berties and the day was perfect from start to finish. We was originally meant to get married in May but it had to be moved due to Covid. The staff have the best customer service I have ever experienced, nothing is too much for Katie, Paul and the rest of the team!. The food was some of the best food that I have ever eaten and hoping to be back in the future for more meals!. I cannot recommend Berties enough, to anybody who is thinking of hosting their even here, please don’t think twice as I know my wedding wouldn’t have been the same without the amazing staff, they really did make the whole day special. Recently held a Celebration of Life function at 21 Brook Street (Berties), the venue was excellent and the food great. Staff friendly and welcoming I would highly recommend.

We’ve recently held two events at at Bertie’s - both wakes, so we’ve had to organise them during a sad and stressful time for our family, but the team at Bertie’s were excellent and Roxanne made the whole process very easy for us. The food was high quality, well presented and plentiful, including for our gluten free guests who said this is the best catered food they’ve ever experienced. Service was friendly and seamless and Paul looked after us really well at both events. We wouldn’t hesitate to hold another event at Bertie’s in the future.
