Me, my wife and son popped in for some refreshments after a long trail walk nearby. Staff were really friendly and the cold beers were very much well appreciated after such a strenuous walk! Highly recommended. 👍🏼

Our most favourite pub! We make the journey to Trehafod at any opportunity to specifically visit The Bertie, despite living in London. This pub really does offer the rare commodity of belonging and sense of community that we long for back home. We are warmly welcomed by both staff and customers alike making us feel involved and part of the community. Everyone is extremely friendly and Maria really does have a magic way with both children and dogs. This quaint pub is not only worth a visit but deserves going out of your way to acquaint. If you want amazing food/drink, whilst getting value for money, a family/dog welcoming place or a good weekend night out then you’ve found your place at The Bertie.

A terrific family friendly community pub, ideal for people exploring the many walks in the area. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff, even when a group of 10 of us turned up unannounced we were given a warm welcome, prompt service and even treats and water bowls for the dogs. A great range of snacks and bar food, all well cooked, delicious and reasonably priced. The setting is warm and comfortable, perfect to relax after a morning walking in the cold. We'll definitely be going back.

Myself and my work friends have had lunch here a few times recently and always received a really good service from staff. Food is very nice and the prices are fab ! Will definitely visit again with family if in area .

My family and I had our Christmas Day meal here. Whilst I don't like to run down local businesses, I feel that if I review, things can be improved fo future Xmas Days. The starter arrived 15 mins into the booking time. Not a problem ! The soup was delicious, but not enough, and the bread wasn't warm. I had butter whilst the other parson didn't. The other party member was given the wrong starter and was bluntly told that it was what she had ordered. Being elderly she didn't like to complain further and accepted the wrong starter. The meal came, and we didn't get the extra cauliflower cheese that we ordered nor the prosecco. Anyway, we were there for so long at that point we didn't want to cause further delay. Two hours had passed, and there was no dessert in sight. We queried this and was told that everyone in the place hadn't received their main, so we had to wait until they had. We decided to cancel as one member of the party was feeling cold and in pain from sitting in the chair for so long. We paid, but I noticed there was no difference in the cost whether we had the dessert or not. I didn't like the atmosphere , the one waitress was friendly, as was the bar staff, but one waitress was very curt ( maybe the stress of the day). We didn't feel the meal was value for money (£40) even though it was Xmas day.

went down for christmas dinner, table was for 3.30 didn’t get our “meal” until 5.45. food came cold with half a yorkshire pudding ahaha.

Came today for Christmas dinner, arrived a tad early and was swiftly seen to and seated which was great. Waited around 20 mins for starters which is no problem at all, then to be told that two of our didn’t have any as it wasn’t ordered (which it was as it was a set menu). Some starters arrived warm, some were cold. One of our party was still waiting for their when the rest of us had more or less finished ours. Next the main.. after stupidly long wait our mains came, with one pot of gravy between 10, and Luke warm food. Again as we where half way through our food, another one of out party still didn’t receive their food. And the extras we had ordered still hadn’t arrived. The broccoli cheese starter we got given was still cold in the middle. On to deserts, at least 50 mins wend by not seen to by anyone we had to ask where our deserts where. Our deserts finally arrived and one of the crumbles was cold but plate luke warm (microwaved) so complained to server and had terrible attitude when walking off from group muttered “seems warm to me” The service, the food and the overall experience was utterly shambolic. And would never ever recommend to come here again. As no apology, no explanation just seemed to not give a crap about customers. Never write bad reviews, but want to make people aware to not spend hard earned cash on Christmas Day in this place. (Reply) To the owner, thanks for your reply below. The two people that weren’t accounted for was the establishments mistake, we made an original booking, then a member of the family went back down two days later to add two more people on with the deposits being paid, so that wasn’t our mistake, it was whoever took the second booking.

Visited the bertie yesterday with my son, the place has been completely transformed from what it was, the staff are friendly, Maria has turned the place to a warm family still run pub. The lager was crisp and nice to drink. Food was also nice and well presented, hot without delay, would fully recommend to anyone to visit.

Great local pub, food was great, staff very friendly and great atmosphere. Will be back again soon :)

Popped into the Bertie yesterday afternoon for a post-Karate grading celebratory drink! It was the first time I'd visited since the new owners - Maria and Jeff, had taken over. What a transformation! Clean, bright and not a sticky table in sight! Maria was so warm and friendly and it was clear she wants the Bertie to be a success. Looking forward to returning soon to sample the food!

food is beautiful. owners are so accommodating. helped with children in out party so that mams could eat, provided colouring and toys for older kids. really family orientated, lovely atmosphere. will look forward to returning. thank you xx

Here with my brother (up from Devon) as we came to the area for a funeral. My brother booked a room, I decided to car camp outside and was welcomed in when I dropped my brother off. The staff here are awesome. So friendly and welcoming, makes me wish I booked a room myself. As for the entertainment, the last singing is great (she can actually sing!) and the jokes are funny. Love the one about the gulls flying upside down. They sell the BEST pork scratchings I've ever tasted! Spoke to my brother about the accommodation and he rates it highly. Very warm, inviting very pleasant. Nice hot shower in the morning and he's feeling refreshed, ready for the long drive back to Devon.

Came here 2th November for children’s Halloween disco .was a great event , lots of prizes and games would come back again

Came with my children today for lunch post visit to Rhondda Heritage Park. Lovely accommodating staff and great with kids. Set up a pumpkin carving table and magnet station which our 6 year olds loved. The land lady also put some halloween tunes so the kids could have a little disco with some Halloween lights they thought it was brilliant. Pub grub and super affordable! Thankyou for the unexpected entertainment today 😊

Had beautiful meal here today.. cooked fresh piping hot.. the chicken stack burger.. lovely welcoming atmosphere.. friendly staff .. and very accommodating.. Will be back!! New mangers and doing good for this community pub

Lovely welcome, we were looking for a dog friendly pub and we definitely found it! Warm friendly staff and customers ☺️ Large food portions and the chef even cooled down sausages for our dog. Water was given to our large French mastiff and welcomed like one of the family. Thank you so much xxx

Booking.com fluffed up our booking but the wonderful staff at the Bertie went above and beyond to accommodate us. They really made what could have been a disaster into a very pleasant stay. Will definitely be staying again as daughter attends uni 10 mins away but will be booking direct to avoid any issues. 100% recommend. Thank you again for everyone's outstanding service.

Popped in for a pint, and the place was busy with people eating and drinking. What a great place to meet friends

Lovely meal, good beer, great service, clean tidy and polite staff

Arrived about 9pm...bar so loud could hardly hear the guy who booked us in. Room ok, beds comfy, no heating on, the toilet smelt and it was all very tired. The main trouble was the noise. Singer until 11pm, karaoke until 1, then people playing some kind of game until 3am all thudding through the floor. Then at 6 people stomping up and down the corridor. Told to let ourselves out in the morning as had to leave by 8.30am and put the keys through the door. So absolutely no sleep. And no parking. Do not recommend. Didn't eat so can't report on the food. Would not have wanted to eat in that noise anyway.

Amazing! The food was outstanding, service was brilliant and everything was served by a friendly and polite member of staff. Will definitely be coming back to this gem of a pub.

Went for food after a recommendation from a family member that suggested it was under new ownership, despite arriving fairly early in the evening we were told they were just about to stop serving food , so we had to rush to choose, and then were told there wasnt any steak, so we had to choose again, the staff were nice, and helpful though. there was a band just setting up so by the time we had food we couldnt really talk for the music. Perhaps if hadn't had to rush, if the food was available and we arrived before the band were would have had a better evening.

Called in for a working lunch, food was really good and service was quick. Will definitely put it down as a regular retreat.

Booked the bertie for a large after ceremony wedding party at short notice, very approachable owners , went over and above to accommodate our requirements. A pleasure to meet.

Stayed here for one night. A very welcome night it was too! Was met with a smile, and check-in was a simple affair. Shown upstairs to our room, which was clean, although the decoration was showing its age, but at the price we paid, it's excusable. The shower was excellent, just what was needed, and the bed was good and comfortable. The pub music seemed to stop around 10pm so no issue trying to get to sleep with music blaring. An excellent night sleep, woke to the sound of the river babbling opposite the pub and feeling much rejuvenated. Parking is on a first come basis, but there were spaces further up the road. Had we had more time, there were a few good walks and also close to a Welsh mining museum, which looks to be a good day out.

Had an excellent experience at this establishment. The staff were welcoming, making us feel right at home. Our room had a view of Trehafod Hill and the lake, which added to the overall charm of our stay. The food offered at a fair price, making it great value for money. We would also like to extend our special thanks to the manager, who went above and beyond by providing extra food and exceptional service. Thank you so much....

Brilliant little pub in the heart of Trehafod with lovely drinks and amazing food . The staff are amazing with the head bar tender Daniel doing everything he could do to make us feel welcome every time came in !

Jeff and Maria have done an amazing job getting the pub back to its former glory. Very clean, great food, amazing atmosphere, good value for money! All the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, especially Dan behind the bar. Always there to great us with a smile. Although we’re from out of town, he recognised us from the second time we went in. The singer was incredible and really funny too!! The nights here are brilliant! We can’t wait to come back and see you all again soon!!

Visited this public house not been there in long time due to previous experiences avoided it however i must say its under new management . lovely staff warm welcome off dan and fresh face leanne who was very professional and polite with a smile and nice atmosphere very clean and the food was outstanding steak and chips cooked to perfection would highly recommend this place to all kid friendly and they even have a lovely little beer garden .10 out of 10 planning to go back .

Couldn't rate food as the kitchen is not open. Syaff helpful, polite and a good atmosphere. Room was clean and tidy. Definitely stay again.

Stayed here for the night and the staff were so lovely and couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. Shame the kitchen isn't open yet, will look forward to trying the food here. Thank you for our games of pool.

Lovely food and service. Shame there was only a young girl at the bar on her own and there was a group of three men shouting about fighting and swearing in the bar. That's all we could hear for an hour in the lounge. We had visitors from Australia with us and we're so embarrassed we'll never go back.

Friendly owner and staff,dirty smelly and run down pub/Hotel,one good thingy is bed was comfy, very poor.couldnt wait to get out.

Dirty. Resturant closed. Noisy. Could here everything in room next door and from the pub below. We didn't waste our time complaining, because the manager was fully aware of the state of our room. We paid for 4 nights but left during the second night. Horrendous.

I feel sorry for the new manager I was the landlord for 2009 to 2012 and still today the same scatter cushions are on the bed and same flowers and vase in window I know because I bought them I think they need up dating Marstons

The bertie is in desperate need of a refurbishment and some TLC, peeling paint on the walls, marks on cups, outdated decor and mould on the window is not acceptable in my opinion, even the walk up to the room smelt of damp, I'm sorry to write such a negative review but I hope the bertie takes on board the feedback

Second time staying here and a very pleasant experience. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Both the accommodation and drink prices are very reasonable. Will definitely be back again very soon.

Very happy they tock my french bulldog and the atmosphere was lovely and the bar staff and the manager was absolutely lovely felt really welcoming wouled happily go back and try the food next time

Paint peeling off the walls. Very strong smell of damp in the building. Carpets were dirty and there was damp and mold in our rooms. We were given wrong key to front door so got locked out of the accommodation all night. Had to find somewhere else to stay, which isn't easy in Pontypridd early hours of the morning. No one ever answers the phone. No out of hours number in case of emergencies. When we spoke to the manager in the morning she ws rude and quite hostile. Took no responsibility. Refund for room was given reluctantly and not even full cost of the additional taxis taken was compensated, let alone anything for the upset or fact we couldn't access our belongings (which included medication!). Avoid at all costs.

We arrived and a lovely lady took our names, we were shown to our room. No toilet roll, no cups, no spoons, but when I asked the delightful young lady handed the required over. The room itself was good value when you consider it was over the Christmas holiday. I cannot complain at the value for those three days, but, yes there is a but, some out of the staff control, like the cracks in the toilet bowl, the hot and cold taps being the wrong way round (blue was hot and red was cold!) Marston need to have a good look and do some serious refurbishment. Other things which made me smile, a huge clot of dust on the bathroom extractor, toothpaste top under the bed, dust on most skirtings, the dressing table looked like it had been cobbled. These are minor and did not require complaints as the staff were so pleasant. They just need to be a bit more thorough with cleaning. The place is “tired”, but hey ho, the price is good, so when Marston do refurbish it, the price will go up accordingly. So, in closing, cheap, dusty but the staff are brilliant.

Good points...Staff very nice and friendly, clean bedding & towels. Bed was comfortable. Bad points..... floorboards seem very unsafe at the bottom of the bed. Thought I was going to fall through. Walls missing paint all around the room. Emergency light taped up. Shower loads of black mould, shower door dirty hence we didn't shower. Lovely bathroom floor but shame about the base of the shower falling apart. Hot tap made such a noise must have woken the whole pub. Didn't turn off properly. Wardrobe was damp. To top it all we had one China cup and one Tin mug. We did have a good night's sleep once the Kareoke had finished near on midnight.

The good stuff: Friendly staff, clean bed linen and towels, comfortable bed, free parking across the road, cheap. The not so good stuff: Very cheap. The whole place is very tired, not been updated in decades, makeshift repairs, clogged shower, dirty carpet, squeaky floor boards (someone nextdoor walking made noise in my room), two broken TVs, tired and tatty furniture. For those reasons I do not recommend it.

I cannot comment on the food,service or atmosphere as I did not use any of these Room only for me .Room was very dated but clean enough, probably explains the price so fair enough.Tv did not tune in, tried for half hour then gave up..Kettle in room however no coffee, no cup and no spoon.. If your looking for somewhere to sleep not a problem but don't expect too much else.

3 nights for £150 is great value for money, a clean room with tea and coffee provided ,staff were attentative and welcoming and a great bar a great weekend

Honestly the best place I’ve ever stayed! Had to leave my property due to carbon monoxide, the most friendliest welcome and very interactive with my pups, the owner is just special! Definitely makes the stay away from home so much easier! Cannot thank the staff and owner any more than if I could could!! My heart honestly is so full! I can’t appreciate what they have done for us and the pups any more!! I have recommended this place to all family and friends and I will definitely recommend to many more people❤️ Thankyou all for how welcome you have made us feel!!❤️

A group of us came this evening with 2 babies , we was given a great table suitable for our needs. Food was delicious great price and a great portion: Even though they were under staffed both Jess and Tracey still took the time to come over and make sure we was all good and make sure our needs where met! Highly recommend and we cannot wait to return for our Christmas do!

Me and my wife stayed here for more than a week upon our arrival in Wales. Lovely little place, easy to find on map. Bus stop and rail station is nearby. The lady who runs the property and her daughter is very helpful. Peaceful and no disturbs at all. Highly Recommended ❤️

Lovely village pub and tonight an amazing entertainer by the name of Rebecca Alexander who should be on a West End stage, was performing. Unfortunately, the pub was deserted and she had to sing to about 12 people who really appreciated her and 5 or 6 drunken morons who completely spoiled the whole experience for everyone else. One of them kept pulling chairs onto the dance floor, climbing onto them infront of the singer. To be fair, she carried as best she could, but it must have been humiliating. The manager and her staff were actually encouraging these idiots to carry on being morons. Needs a change of management and these idiots excluded and it will then be full of people who appreciate such a fantastic act as we had tonight and give her the respect she deserves. I know a lot of people who will not go there because of these clowns. I for one will not go back until there is a change of management. Come on Marstons, this is your pub and reputation being dragged down here.

Drunk people arguing in the bar with children in the same area eating....... hard to come back from that on any customer feedback platform. Ladies behind the bar were nice but the room was dated and not in great condition..... I couldn't bring myself to use the shower ( see picture). It was cheaper than other local options but there is a reason for that.

Simple accommodation with warm open people who sought conversation as soon as I arrived and were very interested in my trip. Nice pub with very tasty freshly tapped beer and a good meal. So I liked it very much. Open, warm, uncomplicated. Thank you for that!

Spacious rooms, good location, free parking, friendly staff. In need of much TLC inside. And soap or gel in the bathrooms

Very disappointed as my sister booked a table for Sunday lunch for a group of 7 two weeks in advance for our mothers 87th birthday. We showed up to be told that the ovens weren't working and there were no meals being served. We received no telephone call to say there would be no service today and were told it was because our reservation was cancelled, which we definitely did not do. My family will not be returning to this place.

This pub is not up to Marston standard. Arrived at 12.05 and pub was still being cleaned. Limited red wine available. Staff was friendly enough but inefficient. Loud music playing. Meal was well cooked and value for money. However we will not return.

Good size rooms in a nice and quiet location with affordable prices. New management and staff made us feel welcomed and were very helpful. We will definitely visit again if we are around the area. Been working up that way so thought I’d have a drink after work last night in a stunning place staff are amazing good laugh as I was a outsider I was welcomed so well. Next time I’m working that way I’ll be back in. ❤️

Cold food, expensive prices for food and drinks, no apologies when asked how food was and told them it was cold. No wonder the place is dead quiet on a Sunday lunchtime. Used to love the Bertie but now it's the last time I'll be there. They also used to offer some pub meals on a Sunday which was a nice option if you didn't fancy a roast. No such option today

We were not impressed with the food, the pub decor, and most of all, the lack of COFFEE.

Lovely pub, friendly atmosphere and the food was lush. Definitely be back xx
