Berners tavern in City of London, Westminster

Was there for the second time and dont think will return. Not worth the price for the food quality. Menu hasnt changed for over 11 months and food choice totally boring and not worth the extremely high prices. Double tables are too near making it impossible to have a private conversation.

Was a wonderful dinner! Everything was perfect! From the plates to the service to the location everything was top of the top! Can’t wait to be there again! One of the best restaurants I have been during my vacations

My son and daughter in law ordered the chateaubriand. It was very very expensive. But it was inedible — so gristly you had to chew a bite for 10 minutes. I ordered a fish dish but the waiter later informed it had tree nuts (which I am allergic to), but the menu didn’t list any tree nuts. So I had to order a fish dish almost twice as expensive. Overall the restaurant was very disappointing.

Amazing service from these staff, very welcoming and helpful. Food was delivered steaming hot not one bit was cold, very enjoyable food and service. Atmosphere was impeccable could not have wanted more from this restaurant.

Overall a positive experience but some areas that could be improved. 1. If I’d wanted Champagne I would have ordered it. Very awkward when it is bought to me as host with guests to say no thanks when it then looks like I’m turning it away for my guests. At mid price £35 per small glass it was an excellent sale but it won’t encourage me to return. 2. Online there is a lunch time set menu. This wasn’t even offered. Again very awkward when I’m the host asking my guests to also have a cheaper menu, even though what we chose was on it and I would have paid much less for exactly the same 3. Still water at £7/ bottle. Again no pro active offer of tap water or a statement after choosing still that it wasn’t feee! 4. Hard floors make it noisy and harder to hear even when close. That having been said, the service was excellent and the greeting on arrival very warm. Super setting for the restaurant. Food was excellent and of good proportions. This could have been so much better. Short term wins on the prices I paid are a long term loss as I’ll not rush to return feeling hard done by.

Service was slow. Steak took a long time coming and was cold when it came and instead of medium rare as requested was medium as had clearly been left "cooking" on the side for too long. Lovely ambience and amazing room but let down by service and food.

Amazing food, amazing atmosphere. I really liked the food, especially the sole and the sirloin. The tuna appetiser with wasabi is next level as well. I feel the waiter can be less pushy when ordering, as we were only 2 and still wanted us to order more sides that were unecessary.

This is the first time we have eaten at the Berners Tavern and we had an excellent meal last night. One of the best we have had in London and we have eaten in many restaurants in town over the years. We loved the ambience and the service was very good too.

Excellent food I had the salmon starter and the mackerel and tarte tatin Service was impeccable and friendly at the same time. My belated birthday was celebrated with a lovely little chocolate treat and we weren’t expecting anything at all. Thank you so much!!!

Beautiful setting a very attentive service. Starters and mains were excellent, the dessert could have been better. Ordered the apple Tatin, was expecting something warm with burnt caramel, got strange apple slices that were cold as a witches tit. Pecan pie was great but again, very cold. For all its atmospheric charm, this place is a masterpiece of unmet expectations. Visit if you must, but lower your hopes accordingly.

Good service and ambience! Had booked at 12pm expecting brunch but we only had a lunch set menu to choose from instead. When called to confirm the reservation they had confirmed breakfast menu would be available.

We would like to thank the team for the warm welcome and especially Jiresse for his kindness, attention and recommendations. It was a real culinary experience, the dishes are perfectly executed. Exquisite or divine, choose! The setting is particularly exceptional too, you have to eat here. We strongly recommend you to live an exceptional moment at Berners Tavern! It was our anniversary and as a treat my partner chose Berners Tavern, the welcome was very warm and friendly, service was prompt and I noticed the staff were alert to the our needs . The food was very well presented and as expected tasted as good as it looked... The decor is very tasteful and made the experience more intimate on our special night... I can't recommend it highly enough and will return next time we're in the area , it's a keeper !

Amazing. I have been to many restaurants of The Edition Hotel around the world and this is one of the best. The fancy decoration of the pictures on the wall and the high ceiling are a delight for the eyes. The food is delicious. I ordered a steak tartare and a stracciatella salad and they were divine. We were very welcomed by the staff and every single one was approachable and friendly. I’ll definitely have another meal at Berners Tavern when I visit London again.

The food was overall impressive. Presentations were the highlights as they didn’t just bring them over to the table already set, they carved the pie, added the sides and plated in front of the table which was super entertaining. 10 out of 10, 11 if I could give that.

My wife and I have been coming to Berners Tavern for the past few years now and over the years our feeling is that the food quality has definitely gotten worse. We ordered a $110 steak that was pretty bad. The quality of the meet was very poor. The meat was very chewy and had a lot of tenden and gristle for a Bone in Rib eye. The mac & Cheese is supposed to be one of their signature dishes, but it just didn't stand up to the hype. It was somewhat bland and just didn't have a lot to it. The wine selection was very good and the ambiance and atmosphere is really good, but the food needs some improvement.

Food was good and the portion was generous compared with other restaurants for the same price range. The experience was however ruined by poor service as one waiter keeps coming and asking "are you guys done?" provided we obviously haven't finished our plates. He at last gave up asking and gazed at us from beside, as if we've wasted a lot of his time. Instead of having the waiter process the card payment, I had to do it on my own. It made me feel like I was dining in a random low-end restaurant. Other staff did great indeed.

I have many dietary restrictions. The waiters were so kind and the staff was very accommodating ! The food came out delicious and the overall scenery of the place is amazing !! Highly recommend!!

The decor is impressive, no doubt. One of a kind. But it shouldn’t be too difficult to serve much better food that would be fitting an exceptional place like this. The menu is very limited and doesn’t change often, so even a slightly more than average professional chef should be able to add a touch of inspiration and more pleasing tastes to the very bland stuff they serve now. I mean, as an amateur chef, and not an exceptionally good one for sure, I have the feeling I could do better. And my wife agrees. It’s always a letdown to experience that. Staff is professional except for one lady at the entrance, who had attitude. And not the right kind. Prices for mains and wine would be exorbitant if not for the decor. And even then it’s so sad what could be a great evening out is reduced to a missed chance because of mediocre food.

One of the best dining experiences. The dishes are delicious, excellent tastes and very well presented. The staff are kind, attentative, very professional and pay attention to details. Last but not least is the building and the decoration, a fantastic hall transformed into a very cosy, intimate and high-end ambience.

We went to Berners Tavern for our 2024 Christmas Works party. 13 of us had lunch in the main dining room. The room itself is gorgeous, with a beautiful ceiling. We chose it over the private dining room for the atmosphere and settings. The decoration and settings are amazing. The staff are very attentive and helpful - we were well looked after and they were incredibly accommodating. We were slightly disappointed the christmas menu finished on the 15th of December (the day prior to our lunch booking), and ate three courses from the set menu. I had mushroom soup to start, this was very mushroom heavy, accompanied by a mini caramelised onion toasty. This was very pleasant and served beautifully. Other starters on the table included pate, prawn cocktail and salad - all of which were well reviewed. My steak was cooked as requested and a great steak. The peppercorn sauce was incredible. Having tried the mac and cheese others had with braised beef, this was lovely although incredibly heavily cheesy! I also had the pecan pie. All the food was lovely however I didn’t leave and want to rave about the food i’d had unfortunately. However, coupled with the settings and service this was an incredible lunch, with lovely drinks.

All tapas we’ve ordered were of quality at their price point - bank for the buck.

I’m very disappointed with the lack of service provided during my recent visit. The experience was further worsened by the supervisor’s unprofessional behavior. They displayed a very bad attitude and spoke rudely to their colleagues, which was both uncomfortable and unacceptable to witness. This kind of treatment creates a negative environment, not only for the employees but also for customers. I strongly urge management to address this issue and ensure proper training for supervisors on how to treat both employees and customers with respect. Such behavior reflects poorly on the organization and deters people from wanting to return.

We recently went to Berners Tavern as a group of four on a weekday evening. The waitstaff were very attentive, taking our coats and offering us drinks right away. The service was prompt and polite—we really can’t fault it. The atmosphere was nice, too. The lighting created a pleasant ambiance, and it wasn’t too loud with music or anything, making it feel very family-friendly. The other diners were a mix of travellers staying at the hotel, couples on dates, business groups, and families. The food was a bit of a mixed bag. We really enjoyed the pork pie and the condiments that came with it, especially how it was served and presented. The risotto was good, but unfortunately, the macaroni cheese wasn’t great—it was far too rich and, to be honest, a bit sickly for our taste. The addition of beef was a nice touch, but the pasta wasn’t macaroni; it looked more like rigatoni. Dessert was good, although nothing particularly special, and the cocktails were very nice, though relatively standard. Overall, we felt the food was relatively average for the price point, especially considering the excellent options nearby. However, the ambiance and the waitstaff made the experience deserving of four stars. I’d recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a hearty take on British classics with excellent service—just don’t expect it to become your new favourite spot in London.

Great ambience and good British food. Only suggestion would be that the kids courses were just too large. My 4 year old had 6 large chunky chicken bites, baked beans, french fires, and big bowl of pasta . That’s a lot of!!!! May be reduce the size of kids food.

Delicious Sunday Roast, both the main and all of the trimmings (especially the roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese). The service was incredible and there is a good range to choose from on the menu. Shout out to our waitress, Arlene, who went above and beyond to make this experience the best it could possibly be.

Food was really good. However the service wasn’t what was before Covid. We had to case the waiters all the time, some food was forgotten and the room was quite chilly. It used to be very customer oriented, but it lost its service excellence, at least today, might have been an exception.

Pancakes are super small and only two, should be theee at least given the small size and the given the price… (25£) it’s not worth it

It’s rare to find such a balance of sophistication and warmth. Berners Tavern is a must-visit in London. I’ll be back for sure!

Really tasty, delicious food. Good service. Fantastic, impressive interior, however the room was only 1/4 full for Saturday lunch, and felt a bit sad compared to previous visits, when it was full and bustling.
