Rotten chips, 1 tea, 1 roll and sausage, 1 coke, 1 beefburger £19.60. It was somewhere we used to go to regularly. Too expensive for a cafe in a market, won't be back.

Poor food quality and far too expensive. Shame really as this used to be a great place to eat. Seems the owners have got greedy though. Good quality is not the same and the prices are ridiculously high. Avoid at all costs and go somewhere else that has better quality and lower prices.

Met a friend her for brunch. We both had breakfast rolls, whilst my friends was ok mines was awful. Fried egg over cooked and looked like it had been hot held for far too long. Bacon was really chewy which I think is also due to being hit held too long. . Breakfast items should be cooked fresh. No need to hot hold.

We used to visit here every weekend but have slowed it down lately, the last few times i feel the food is going downhill, its just not what it used to be. The other day i had a bensons burger and the lettuce was goin black at the edges and the burger was thick and totally dried out and very chewy, even let my partner try it and she agreed. To be dead honest we are giving it a miss now as really you could pick anywhere for lunch at the prices aswell. Mac and chips, bensons burger, chips and curry and 3 juices was nearly £25. Its not the most expensive but we spent £13 in Wetherspoon’s today for 2 lunches and 2 drinks and enjoyed it a lot more. Sorry bensons

Went here on Saturday with my wife. Its a decent sized place ideal to take family/ partner etc.bright clean.nice staff. Decent menu if slightly pricey. For once we both had the same. The steak panini with chips. Not a great chip fan but they were acceptable big chunky critters. The pannini looked a bit peely wally But the steak. And onions with the sticky bbq sauce Made it very enjoyable.pretty generous too With small but tasty salad nice dressing. 2 panninis 2 pots of tea and a coke Came to more or less 20 quid. Good genuinely nice service. spotless toilets decorated to a very high standard. Onky gripe was the air con. Im sure in summer would be most welcome but in January. And with me having low iron levels It was chilly. I would come again....in spring... And take a closer look at specials lol Well done Bensons see you in Summertime lol

we have been to thiis small cafe a few times,, not the one in the inshops but the one in the main forge, So every occassion food is excellent 5 stars, however also on every single occassion the staff member all female.. have been ignorant and rude. they leave you waiting to finish a conversation about what theyre doing at the weekend or whatever. we decided we had been waiting for a few minutes to be seated so kept an eye on how long it took..Eventually once we had been seated after 6 minutes of waiting at the main entrance we got left for 11 minutes before being offered a drink. which took a further 8 minutes to be brought to the table.. 3 cold cans of juice. We still hadnt been asked for our food order. We had to ask one of the women to take our order roughly 5 minutes after our drinks got put down at the table. food took 10 minutes to come and was brilliant as usual never any problem with the food. Finished the meal, and sat with empty plates on the table for ages.Putting them at the edge of table got the attenion after about 10 minutes. Never even asked how the meal was or nothing, so ignorant. I love the food but staff are unbelievably ignorant and slow.

Went here last week while out shopping as been before n it was nice. Seated quickly considering it was a busy Friday. Table was dirty and after waiting ages I ended up cleaning it myself with baby wipes and hand sanitizer. Food ordered, it arrived quickly & staff were nice. The food was not good at all, my nana who isn’t fussy in the slightest and of the age where u never waste food but even she couldn’t eat it. I got a chicken panini which was soggy and dripping with watery mayo (yuk) The worst part is that it came to £27 for 3 cans of juice, 2 panini’s and a macaroni & chips! Shocking! My wife and I recently discovered this hidden gem in Glasgows Forge Market. I ordered their steak pie, chips and beans, my wife had breaded haddock chips and mushy peas. I have to admit that i was skeptical as steak pies can be a hit or miss - this was so tasty. The haddock my wife had was delicious and I am not a fish lover at time. For afters, she ordered chocolate fudge cake - what a portion arrived. I decided to try my usual dessert and yes I got it - big bowl custard. I would recommend this value for money restaurant to anyone - try not to turn your nose up at it simply cos its in the Forge Market - give it a go..

Everyone seemed to have at least one person at the table with the chips with bensons stew gravy which seemed to be a favourite. The lunch came quickly and was lovely.

Was in the Forge Shopping Centre on 27 August 2015. Was hungry so I decided to go to get something to eat. I went to Bensons in the In shops. The waiting staff were very friendly but that is where the pleasant experience ended. The food was Aweful!!!!! The fish was full of bones overcooked and dry. It had more bones then a graveyard. It took over a 1/2 hour for them to bring out the food. The waitress apologised 3 times for the wait. When the food came out it was crap!!! I'm really not one to complain it really has to be bad to say something but it was beyond bad. I was like chewey dirt with Bones in it. The Peas were stinkin! The only thing that was good were the chips and tartar sauce. I did complain and they took a pound off the final bill so I basically paid £7.00 for a plate of chips. I've had fish and chips all over Scotland as I do a lot of travelling but this is by far the worse Fish & Chips in Scotland and that I have ever eaten. I won't be back I guess it would be ok if you were looking for some toast or a roll and sausage but DON'T GET THE FISH & CHIPS !!!! I think they found this fish on the side of a river. It had no meat on the bones. It was like the Haddock had cancer or was sick. It was battered bones and oil. Total Crap!!!!

We frequently go to Bensons whilst out shopping in The Forge. We find it to be a friendly cafe with a good choice of basic dishes and we always find something for all of us. They do good burgers and also my mum enjoys the fish and chips, although its a big plateful and she struggles to finish it. The place is busy but the staff and friendly. My mum is in a wheelchair and, once she is seated, the staff always take the wheelchair and store it out of the way for us. The toilets are clean and overall we find this cafe to be good value for money. Just what you would expect of a busy cafe.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This review is based on at least 20 visits to Benson's at the Forge. My friend and I, two guys from Glasgow, first discovered Benson's by mistake on a visit to the Forge in Glasgow, and since then, we now frequent Bensons almost every week (sometimes more than once.) We drive across the City to go to Bensons, so it's not our choice out of 'convenience,' it's our choice because we've tried all the local 'cafs' dotted around Glasgow that we used to visit, but which let us disappointed on inconsistent food quality and unfriendly serving staff. Benson's has won our custom time and time again because it wins on absolutely every level.First off, quality of food. Whether it's a straightforward Scottish Breakfast, or a more complex dish, the key to our return visits has been the consistency in quality of ingredients, preparation and presentation. Our late breakfast order at Bensons is usually rather basic (Fried egg, sausage & chips, and a roll and potato scone) but it is unbelievable how many times we have been to other cafes, and had this seemingly straight-forward order fail on so many levels. At Benson's, after at least 20 visits, we have not found cause to complain about ANY dish served to us. This cannot be said of many other cafes positioned within the same casual-diner market: This is not your usual BHS or local street corner Caf.) At Benson's expect their Scottish Breakfasts to us high quality lorne or link sausage and eggs that are cooked to perfection (neither overcooked and rubbery, nor raw and runny,) we have also savoured many of their others dishes, their Lasagne for example, which won big-time on serving size, was perfectly crisp on the top, with a thick creamy sauce in the middle. We have never received a dish where elements were overcooked or charred, or food that was cold and poorly presented; the kitchen (which is open to view to café patrons) seems highly efficient, often running on 2 or 3 staff who cope seamlessly with the busiest parts of the day and churn out meal after meal while never compromising on taste, quality and presentation. Garnishing and presentation isn't too 'fancy' for Bensons, as it is with many cafes. With most of their hearty dishes, you'll receive a colourful and well presented salad on the side of the plate. That brings me onto my next point: Customer experience and service. Bensons has a layout that consists of two bench-seating/booth areas, running full-length on either side of the restaurant, and standard table seating in the centre. On arrival, customers are asked whether they want a table or booth seat. While booth seating can be more popular, we have rarely had to wait any longer than 5 or 10 minutes, and with most visits, our preferred table or booth is immediately available. For a casual diner, Bensons seem to allocate one or two members of staff to welcoming new customers, offering a simple form of maitre d' service which is much appreciated and contrasts with our visit to other café/diners where you might struggle to find a member of staff or where aren't sure whether to take a seat or wait your turn. At Benson's, we have found that you are seated quickly or receive a menu while you wait. We are always greeted pleasantly by one of the many servers (usually between 3 and 6 members of staff, depending on time of day) who are organised to be either waiting tables, collecting orders or working behind the takeaway counter. Whoever is managing staff at Benson's are doing a good job; there is evidence of excellent organisation, with no confusion of who has or hasn't had their orders taken and with no customers having to wait excessive periods of time to receive their food. Paying is also straightforward, with your bill arriving with drinks, allowing you to pick-up-coats and go to the pay-point (takeaway counter) as soon as your ready, without having to snap-fingers or make the international 'cheque' gesture at staff looking in the other direction.Friendliness is another factor which has us returning. Pop into an ASDA café or other café/diner, and it's unlikely that you'll find staff who have the perfect balance between friendliness and formality. Either, you'll find at other venues that staff can be overfamiliar and 'chummy' or distant and uncaring. Waiting staff at Benson's have always been incredibly cheerful and friendly with us, but they've never done what so many Diners do wrong, they've never 'broken the mould' or forgotten that we are paying customers; their attitude is friendly but professional (and efficient I should add.). The two members of management staff who appear to 'run the joint' are also incredibly pleasant, often being present and asking "if everything was ok" while your paying your bill . Walking through the Forge shopping centre the other day, we received a welcome 'hello lads' from one of them, a demonstration of their attention to creating a positive customer relationship that doesn't end when you've paid-up and left. The dining experience and restaurant environment is also very well considered. The interior design hasn't been thrown together by amateurs. The dining area is open and you don't feel 'crushed in.' Extensive mirroring appears to double the space of an already relatively large dining area but this doesn't come at the cost of cosiness. The colour scheme employs warm and inviting orange tones, lowered ceiling areas with accent lighting, rows of modern translucent ceiling lights, faux brickwork and comfortably spaced seating; everything to make you want to stay for tea or coffee after your main meal is over. If 'nature calls' and you need to pop into the cafes 'loos' then you'll find that they are nothing like the cold and soulless public toilets found in many venues. Instead, you'll find decorative wall and floor tiling and hygienically clean surfaces (which can't be said of many locations.)My friend and I will continue to return to Bensons week after week. We've looked, and we have yet to find somewhere that offers consistently well prepared, high quality food at 'casual cafe' prices, all served in immaculate surroundings, by efficient waiting staff.

Been pass this place on a number of occasions but as it always looked busy we never ventured in. I don’t know if it is under new management or not but at the weekend one of the young girls was outside inviting people in. so we decided to give it a try. The girl was very nice and showed us to a table got a high chair and took the pram out of the way. And changed the high chair when we saw that it was broken. Ordered a “small” soup for the wee one I had a pie chips and gravy and Mrs M had mac and chees. The food arrived quickly the soup came with a drink as it was from the kids menu. All for £1.50 and it was not a small soup so the wee one didn’t finish it all . The pie and chips was very good the gravy was very rich thou , they do do a stew gravy and if the normal gravy is this rich I don’t want to know what the stew type was like. Mrs M thought the mac and chees was ok but not the best. The Soup was very nice but got cold quite quickly. The toilets war also very clean although they did not have any baby changing facility’s and when I went looking for it I ended up in a kitchen store room. Overall what you would expect of a shopping centre café at a reasonable price.

There were so many offers to choose from Burger and pint £10 appealing to my husband then we noticed a seniors menu 2 course £6.99, 3 course £7.99 my husband had his order ready before I’d even looked at the menu 🤣. In a nutshell it was for the money fabulous. We both had the soup and bread to start then I chose Fish, chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce, husband had hunters chicken with salad and chips we then had desserts chocolate brownie with ice cream and a Jam Roly poly with custard. It was delicious and the service by Craig was excellent so much so we stayed for another drink and had a lovely Friday afternoon and will definitely be back.

Can't understand the good reviews, unless we were very unlucky. Firstly, on a positive note, the staff were lovely, very attentive and welcoming. No issues at all. Both my brother and I opted for a Scottish breakfast. Served one of each, bacon, potato scone, square sausage and fried egg, with toast. The only thing that got pass marks was the toast. Nice. Everything else was anemic. The potato scone looked like it was dipped in oil and served. Bacon had barely seen the pan/grill as was the sausage. Just disappointing. And at £8.00/head, not good value either.

We have been diners there for years despite there being several closer, The staff are excellent, friendly and always ready to help, We will miss this restaurant and fail to see the economic reason!
