Bengal Cottage in Mansfield

Now Spice Cottage, I ate on Friday with a friend and it was truly delicious. My mate ordered phall which isn’t even on the menu, I had a chef’s special that I hadn’t heard of before and after being told it was quite spicy they turned down the temperature to a bit below madras which the waiter suggested to me. Starters were ace too, bread and rice tip top. Also the wine was cheap because you take your own!

Went last night. Very friendly staff and amazing food. I ordered my favourite dish which was not on the menu and it was delicious. We’ll definitely be going back!!

🛎🛎 Review Time🛎🛎 Paid a visit to the newly named Spice Cottage Indian Restaurant tonight in Warsop, formerly known as Bengal Cottage Locally. The meal was a special occasion to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The last time we visited here when it was called Bengal Cottage we swore we would never return due to a poor meal and items missing off the order. The service we received tonight was 💯 top notch from the guy serving us he was polite very punctual and a pleasure to have him serving us. I had the Tandoori Platter to start with normally I always order Hot Meat Purée but fancied a change, the meat was lovely, succulent well cooked and tasted how it should the peppers and onions that were accompanied with it were also fresh and tasty. Main Course I ordered the usual, Lamb Tikka Naga, Chips, Keema Rice. I’ll tell everyone now that is one of the best tasting And spiciest Lamb Naga I have ever tasted it’s the best Lamb Naga in the area now it’s 💯 times better than when called Bengal Cottage. The chips were nice not over or under cooked and the Keema rice was 👌. Portion sizes here are now top notch which makes it even better. My wife and 2 kids also commented how nice the food at this restaurant since the last time we visited many months ago. This is a strong 9 out of 10 score for sure I’ll be back again and this is my new go to Indian now. The curry as a main was absolute phenomenal. When we received the bill of £66 for 4 people! Yes 4 starters and 4 main courses we was very surprised as I was expecting more of a cost. Total value for money here now since new ownership and urge anybody who hasn’t been since it was renamed and taken over to give it a go.

Cannot believe some of the negative reviews on here. Been a customer for over 5 years and never had a bad meal. Yes sometimes the delivery can be late, but have some understanding that this is a popular restaurant. Even saying that the food is always hot. Well recommended, the best curry house around.

Had a takeaway comprising mutton dhansak, leman & coconut rive and tarka dhall. I love the mutton from here, it has a somewhat stronger flavour and just as tender as the lamb. First time for the dhall, other places I found it insipid and watery but this had lots of flavour and a nice texture. Combine that with the lemon rice and it was a delicous meal. This restaurant came under new management during the summer and there has been some problems, but I am pleased that the quality of the food hasn't suffered.

Took over an hour to arrive only 4 prawns in a rogan josh, unfortunately the popadoms were soft. Not the Bengal cottage I remember maybe new chef ? Sorry we are going to look elsewhere 😟

Visited restaurant early August it was midweek and we were the only customers. Decent menu to choose from, food arrived quickly and was decent portion size and good quality. Had starters and main all was good, will definitely use the restaurant when we move to the area later in the year.

I’ve had three deliveries over the past couple of weeks and every dish has been delicious. Delivered on time, piping hot and bang on tasty. Couldn’t recommend more.

I’ve been here on a number of occasions, every time the food has been excellent. Staff are really friendly they don’t rush you. It’s a nice relaxed environment. Will definitely keep returning.

Staff great food excellent. Party of 9 catered for. Only 4 stars due to a draft we kept getting when the door was opened but food and service was worth it. Reasonable prices also.

My husband and I went for a meal yesterday. The new menu looks great. I had a curry from the new options it was very nice. We will definitely be going again very soon. They don't have an alcohol licence so you can take your own alcohol. Makes it a cheaper night.

1st time I ordered from here, gave a 4 because order was on time and it wasn’t that expensive but not up to the standard I am used to , meat was was cooked well but the curries were just bland, it arrived on time but sadly there are quite a few better tasting curry houses out there, we did have a couple of different dishes as well ..

Very nice food and happy/polite staff. Popadoms, onion bhajis and Balti was very good. Tandoori Butter chicken was also of a very high standard.

Had home delivery tonight. My son said worst Indian takeaway hes had. Sadly very poor and waste of money

Place has improved after a bad period, new management possibly, food had was good, always better to collect, i like to use local businesses, when you collect your food and a table for 12 suddenly walk in saying" this is the place" kind of reassures you

Had a takeaway last night first time for a while. All I can say is shocking. Hardly any meat in the butter chicken. The rice was inedible. And the yogurt and mint dip was1part yogurt and 9parts water. Never again

Had takeaway from here last night Delivery time was bang on couldn't complain at allPaid £24 my usual Indian would of given me free poppadoms and ratia mango chutney etc here I got nothing i even ordered starters. My chicken bhuna had never been a bhuna to wet. Ordered mushroom purée and mushroom rice as my family love mushrooms. We were all disappointed to discover the mushrooms were tinned so they had no flavour and taste like rubber Won't be using again

Visited here in December for a family birthday meal. Very good choice of food. It was nice to be able to sit on a round table so everyone was able to chat. Plenty of poppadoms and pickles whilst waiting for main course.Although not licensed you are able to take your own alcohol and glasses are provided and your empties disposed of. Good vegetarian options and happily cooked without ghee. Would definitely visit again

booked a table, but they didn't say it wasn't licensed, which would have been helpful - fortunately if you turn left coming back out and left again there is a small licensed corner shop with a decent selection

Great food was a little disappointed they don't sell alcoholic drinks will bring my own wine ne t time

Joya escondida. Todos estamos de acuerdo en que la comida era buenísima. Cebolla bahjis mejor que he probado en muchos años. Un restaurante pequeño pero nos fuimos a las 6 de la tarde así que llegamos sin reserva pero se llenó rápidamente. No sirven alcohol, pero nos dijeron que podíamos ir a una tienda local para comprar. Recomiendo totalmente

Just had a big take away from here. Prawn biryani n Tikka Massala and rice. Cracking. Delivered promptly, dips n poppadums were great. Very impressed.

Regular visits to the restaurant,recently had an interior refit which is very inviting,great food,great atmosphere and super friendly staff,cant wait for next visit

This was our first visit and will be our last unfortunately , all the dishes was absolutely tasteless ,I've made far better myself with fresh ingredient , the vegetarian dishes was even worse , I don't know if they was having a bad night but honestly if I enjoyed even part of this food I would compliment it happily ,really disappointed meals had to be thrown away it was that bad waste of time + money and our petrol to collect it !!!

A restaurant that you can take your own alcohol is always a plus for me.. we enjoyed an excellent bottle of red wine and not had to pay through the nose for it! Back to the food though - can't fault the choices we made, was delicious and good value for money. We were the only couple there (Thursday evening), which was a shame .. but we were made to feel welcome. It's been a while since we've been here, but we will not make the same mistake again!

There's a good selection. Reasonable prices and decent quantity. Never had any problem. Only place I'd get Indian from round here

We tried this for a take away and the food was so good we decided to give the restaurant a try. We went mid week and we were the only couple there. Food just as good, atmosphere lacking (apart from my husband of course!).We were told that it is much busier at weekends but either way it's great food.

Came here with friends for a meal.To briefly summarize, the restaurant served us up a very good meal for £43 for 5 of us. Major reasoning was we were allowed to bring our own alcohol.The deco and ambiance needs a complete overhaul as we certainly didn't feel the same in here as in other Indians.I think they push their takeaway service more than the restaurant and it appeared pretty evident.Verdict: get a takeaway

This was a surprise. It doesn't look like much from the outside. The starters especially the sekindoor kebab is nice.All the mains are good and reasonably priced.They are very accommodating. Would recommend.

This restaurant is great, food is lovely and the staff are so polite and friendly. Been to other Indians in the local area and it's not a patch on Bengal!

We have been eating at and ordering from Bengal cottage for 7 years, the food quality is of the best we have tasted at an indian restaurant,always fresh ingredients,beautiful presentation and amazing taste (curry out of a jar taste? That is so not the case here at all)yes waiting times for takeaway delivery can take a while,because the food is made fresh from scratch with no short cuts Bengal did have a bad review in the local press last year(rats in the building) but this business was not the only one affected.obviously the problem was solved in a prompt manner with no problems since...a privilege to have such a unique, amazing indian in our village.and also!!! Over seven years of service and still open...speaks for itself

Visited this restaurant and was pleased with the meal and service. They offer an extensive menu. They served our poppodoms whilst we studied the menu. The service was pleasant , prompt and the food was good. The great thing about this restaurant is you can take your own wine or beer as they only serve soft drinks. As wine prices are high when buying in restaurants you can get a reasonably priced meal if you take your own wine. Not many restaurants still offer this opportunity.

The food is superb, the service is friendly and location is perfect for us. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Have been visiting Bengal Cottage regularly since it opened and I cannot find fault in a single visit we have had there. The food is of a good quality and most definitely not served out of jars as other reviewers have made reference to. The staff are second to none and you'd go far to find a nicer bunch of people. The food is of better quality than you would find in your average Indian restaurant and myself and my family will most definitely be returning!

Order a takeaway from here was told it would be 30mins after an hour made an call to enquire and was told it was on its way. Made another call 20 minutes later to find out where the delivery was as we only live 5mins from the restaurant to find out there was a mix up and our order was never placed and that we would still have to pay £3.70 to have it delivered. If your thinking of going to this place or having a take away from this place I really wouldn't bother

I have been comming here for years and the food is always consistently good.The restaurant is upstairs in a very old stone building,which does cause constrictions on space and facilities but in no way affects the food.They have a very good selection of fish dishes which is unusual and the service has always been spot on.It is unlicensed so you can take your own and this makes for a very reasonably priced evening out.I have never had bland food here and shall keep recommending this to my guests.

Pants and shocking food delivered half the order missing and take full money off you, ring to complain and the manager threatens you, and then you realise they have low star rating from Mansfield district council because they had mice in their kitchen been there in the past, there facilities are rubbish, the toilets are shocking and disgusting the food we had tonight had to be reheated then thrown in the bin avoid ordering from there or even dining from there the manager shouting and swearing at me bearing in mind they delivered the order cold and half was missing and still had the cheek to charge me full price this restaurant needs closing down, it brings shame on Warsop

Very very bland food. tastes like the curries come straight out of a jar. If you want a genuine indian experience there are plenty of better restaurants to visit not too far away! Plus this place has been shut down at least once due to rats. Wouldn't recommend rhis place to anyone

Always good food and YES it is open. Had bad report from chad but that was twelve months ago. Please support your local restaurant.

The menu seems quite good, but both our first choices were not available, ended up with Rogan Josh and Tikka Masala, both tasted synthetic and were a bit watery, not at all authentic. Rice was overdone and naan was undercooked.I complained and the waiter just looked at me like it was my fault, asked to see manager who conveniently wasn't available.I refused to pay all the bill and after much disagreement the waiter agreed for us to pay half.We'd parked at the rear of the building and as we were going back to the car we noticed jars of pataks curry sauces in the bins at the back, that explains a lot, may as well stayed at home and made my own!!

Really good food, good service and very reasonably priced will defiantly be going again. We have visited this restaurant before but tonight the food and service was very good, staff very friendly and polite and the prices so reasonable.

Loved it, was amazing for the price, friendly staff very helpful as my friends curry was to hot and they asked if she wanted another curry and have her more rice they are great :)

Well worth a visit! Authentic Indian food served by attentive staff who are more than happy to please. An extensive menu of well cooked and tasty meals with something for everyone including a few English dishes for those who don't want Indian but don't want to be left out of the party. It isn't a large restaurant and it's not licenced, but they encourage you to take your own drinks. It's on the first floor of an old cottage with beams and low windows overlooking the village centre. As already mentioned it is above a Kebab shop and up a flight of stairs off the street, so anyone with walking difficulties would struggle. They also do takeaway meals and a delivery service. I have eaten here a few times with friends and I use their takeaway service more regularly.

I ordered a simple meal - chicken dhansak, tarka daal and keema rice.An easy staple for any Indian right?Unfortunately not.The daal was like water and had little taste. The dhansak seemed to have tomato in it, tasted synthetic and was definately the worst dhansak I have ever tasted. The rice was OK except for the under cooked crunchy onion.When asked if my meal was OK, I explained (oh so very nicely) that it was not, constructively explaining why. I then asked for the bill as I wasn't going to finish my food because it was so very bad. I had eaten two teaspoons of daal, two table spoons of dhansak and about one table spoon of rice. The waiter just said OK I'll tell the chef.At no point was I offered my money back or something off the bill.The full bill was presented. To my eternal shame I paid and left.DO NOT under ANY circumstances eat here.Curry from a tin would be nicer.TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS!!!!

This place is great. Location wise it's no the best which is a shame as the owners and staff are superb. The food is very good and value for money.Give it a go.

read the review from the lady staying at centerparcs, sounded good so thought we'd give it a go. It's located above a kebab shop and we missed the sign. On asking a local for directions all came clear, she told us there was parking at the rear and the food was excellent. In a nutshell, it was! Highly recommended, just remember to take your own alcohol if drinking. Would definitely eat there again.

We stayed at Centerparcs at Sherwood Forest for new year and decided that on the last night we would take the plunge and leave the village for a meal - we love Centerparcs but the restaurants on site in our opinion are not the best. We found this restaurant on Google Maps and it was a brilliant find - the menu was very varied, the staff were lovely and the bill at the end of the meal was excellent value for the amount of food we had. The restaurant doesn't have a licence but you can take your own alcohol which they will open for you free of charge. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy or trendy but the food is so good that it doesn't matter.
