We happened across this place by chance. The exterior is not preposessing, and we were not entirely sure it was open. However, when we got in, we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very clean and service was good. What surprised us however was the very externsive menu, with a lot of dishes we'd not come across before, and we struggled to decide as several sounded really good. It appears that they also do the curry house standards, but why not try something new? The food was very fresh - they say everything is cooked from scratch - and very tasty. The naan in particular was excellent. The price was surprisingly low for the generous portions. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own - there is a convenience store next door. Would we go again next time we're in Belper? Certainly. A great find.

Tarka Dahl, aloo gobi , sag paneer was gorgeous..so nice to taste the spinach..and not creamed.. veg jalfrezi was tasty, lots.of diff veggies may be too spicy hot..and we like spicy or thought we did lol. Plenty left for the freezer.too. a lovely touch getting a complimentary naan bread

We have been long term customers of Bengal Blues and have always had a good experience but tonight’s takeaway means that we are unlikely to visit again. Naan bread was inedible - like a giant crisp, curries cold and not particularly tasty (we live five minutes drive from the restaurant so not enough time to go cold!), and despite ordering at 5pm for an 8pm delivery, still arrived 25 minutes late. Just a disappointing experience.

The food that was in abundance was tasty, authentic and fair quality for the reasonable prices, which although I wouldn’t describe as being the best that I’ve had in comparison to other restaurants, it was still nevertheless good and what I would recommend. The menu was varied with plenty of options for everyone. The staff were very friendly and polite, although service was slightly on the slower side than what is preferred, but this may have been because we arrived upon the venue just opening up for the evening. The venue itself was clean and a nice aesthetic. It was particularly great to be able to bring your own booze. In the end, I can’t complain much about this restaurant. It’s good for a reasonably priced meal that you can bring your own drink to.

We called in on spec, we were in the market place, 1st meal out post lock down and it was fantastic. Seen this place for a while. Went for a curry tonight and was quite disappointed. The food came out very quickly, unfortunately the peas pilau had crunchy bits in it. I think the rice had been kept on the heat way to long. One of the very few pieces of meat was inedible...I told the staff that it was very cold and he muttered something under his breath but didnt do anything about it. To top it another table was very loud and vulgar, they though it was ok to wretch and pass wind very loudly and swear in front of other customers and our daughter. We wont be going there again.

Picked up a takeaway of chicken jalfrezi, lamb rogan josh, rice and tandoori roti. Very disappointing, quite tasteless. The lamb was tough and gristly which made it almost inedible, the chicken was ok although I expected spice as it was a jalfrezi - it was very bland despite the heavily over seasoning. Nice little Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant situated just down from Belper marketplace. At peak times this place can get very noisy. This is a bring your own alcohol restaurant so i'll leave it up to you to figure out why it gets noisy at peak times. Lovely food from here but there can be a wait for food at peak times. The last time I went on a Friday and the food took an hour to come to the table from ordering. The food was mostly worth the wait. I however have to say the Jaipuri Chicken I ordered didn't have that much of a spicey kick to it even though the menu said it was medium. The Saag Aloo my partner had was much spicer. Will go again.

We visited on a spur of the moment decision and wish we hadn’t bothered. The pickles were very ordinary, the starters were excellent and then the fun started. A group of 5 walked in on spec to eat, so we were moved to a different table after our starter to make room for them, no explanation just what we saw. We had ordered a set menu to try some different dishes which is not a bad thing, however, the main meat dishes were good, the tanka Dahl was like baby food and the rice had peas in it, never have I had peas in rice in an Indian restaurant, I associate it with Chinese egg fried rise. The service had been slow all night, at no point were we asked if the food was ok, did we want a desert etc. When the bill finally arrived I went to pay at the till rather than wait even longer, again we weren’t asked if we’d had a good meal so I felt the need to point out to the waiter it was the worst Indian meal that I’d had for a very long time, suddenly his English disappeared and he grinned and put a thumb up and smiled! We left but won’t be rushing back there are better Indian restaurants in belper, Bengal seems to cater for big groups, the more bums on seats the better and don’t worry about the quality of food or service.

Called Saturday evening (13/10/18) and basically wished we hadn't bothered! It looked as though there were only two people serving/Waiting-On and it really showed! The place is not licenced, so no alcohol provided on the premises, but having ordered a jug of water between us, we had to wait almost 30 minutes before it arrived. When the poppadoms arrived, they also came with a small tub of onions, a small tub of Mango Chutney and a small jug of some kind of watery mint yogurt? That was between five of us! It was an hour before our meals arrived, we had to wait and extra ten minutes for one of the ordered rice portions to arrive and my Lamb Rogan Josh was more of a tomato puree; tasteless! No please or thank you from the two members of staff and the decor was drab and shabby! I would certainly not recommend this restaurant to my family or friends.

An excellent meal enjoyed. We loved the chilli paneer starter - very tasty.I had a lovely chicken tikka biryani - generous in size so I had to take half home. My husband had the lamb sag bahar and tarka dhal which he loved - lots of tender meat and fresh garlic. The only issue we had was the initial starter ordered - meat samosa. It was like a bland/soggy cornish pasty with very thick pastry which had clearly been baked, not fried. I did swap it for the paneer chilli as I couldn't enjoy it. The management dealt with it very professionally and sensitively so no complaints at all (and we did end up tipping generously). I was told that the samosas were bought in and not made at the restaurant so this explains the poor quality. I would definitely return but would never order samosas there again.

My wife and I have been here so many times now, working our way through the Bengal Blues specials menu. It's great to get different flavours between all the dishes they offer, unlike many 'fine dining' Indian restaurants where the only difference seems to be the amount of tomato and chillies they add. Bengal Blues gets very, very busy on Friday and Saturday nights, so be prepared to wait for your food but know that it is definitely worth the wait. They called me, claiming to be from Vodafone. It came up as "Jeera", and when I searched the number, it was on their website. This makes me think that the restaurant is a front for scam callers to operate from or something. If they are not a front, then they need to change their number. If they are, then I wouldn't eat their food if someone paid me, since if their food is as good as their ability to pull off a convincing scam, then it can't be very good at all.
