Bene's Fish & Chips Port Seton in East Lothian

Delivery was crap food very cold and bacon gourmet burger is barely cooked was like a sole from a shoe shoved in a bun with a strip of bacon that’s looked like it had been left over from yesterday’s breakfast nothing gourmet at all strongly recommend going to a different restaurant.

Don't think I be coming back to this chippy for a long while the whole order messed up missing chips from the double burger supper saled and cheese and chips missing from the other burger supper. This ain't even the first time it has happened either

HUGE fish! My other chip shop (near by in Longniddry) has lost my business due to super thick batter that is slimy under the surface with over cooked fish. That’s hard to accomplish! This place is way ahead! Slightly overcooked but that’s a British problem with all food. Very very impressed! Lovely chips! A bang on Scottish chippy

Ordered food in here, while i waited for it, the staff went on a racist rampage about gypsies, staff’s attitude towards ethnic minorities is appalling, but not as appalling as there food which was disgusting straight in the bin, i doubt they would have such a distasteful attitude towards other minority groups, they should really be charged with a hate crime as that is the law now.

The fish was light and flakey, batter was crispy and the chips were fresh. Wife had the Highland burger and judging by the noises she made she loved that too. Our daughter had the chicken bits, she's extremely fussy but she ate most of them, they were freshly made, had a nice flavour and texture. All in all it was a really good meal and we will be back when we're back in the area.

The fish was tasty, as we're the chips and mushy peas, great service.

Was an extremely busy small shop staff were completely run off their feet but the food was absolutely spot on....anytime I'm in a seaside town I always get a fish supper regardless & I can genuinely state this was the best I've ever had fish was perfect, batter was perfect my & even the chips were fresh made & non greasy my family who range from the age of 6 to 44 ordered x amount of different things like sausage supper, pizza supper, haggis supper, black pudding supper etc.....& there was not one complaint from any one of them, there was no waste & all commented how much they enjoyed their dinner(which for my lot is a 1st) which is a miracle as they all like different things, pick at everything & waste so much food if I could give the food 10 stars I would......fish supper is a must have

Best fish and chips! For me it’s all about the batter and it was excellent. Crispy, made to order, no soggy bottoms, just👌 could be my favourite fish and chips ever. Chips great too. And like the cardboard packaging 👍

The quality was very much ok. The batter on the fish is was rather sweet, and the tomato sauce was really unusual. It was more like sweet and sour sauce. Staff were friendly enough.

Customer service is awful, website says if something not quite right let us help this couldn’t be more false the attitude was awful. Never new that they chuck all sauce on like a dogs dinner, when I told her that I don’t eat chilli and presumed the sauce came separately like it does when you buy a kebab and also every place that sells kebab meat, she said it doesn’t say it comes separately so the fact that it also doesn’t say it comes covered in your choice of sauce means nothing, funny though there was also a hamburger chip roll that we asked for salt and sauce didn’t come with the requested sauce. Food quantity is awful, frozen onion rings aswell extremely disappointed considering what they charge.

Average chip shop... but could be so much better...harbour location and closed till 4 pm...??????

Lovely service and clean facility. Unfortunately the rump steak supper was very greasy and way too much garlic. Please go back to the old traditional rump steak supper.

Food is fine, fish pretty good, chips not so great and had them a few times, not bad but not the best. Prices high end and efficient enough service but not very welcoming if that's what you like, me not fussed just want great fish and chips

Great chippie, fish supper is my favourite choice and the misses loved her pizza. The chips are normally hot and fresh. I was glad to hear that a Bennys was openning up in Dalkeith where we live but this one is still the best.

Get fish, go to harbour that is 60 second walk away, eat fish, be content.

AMAZING Fish and chips Cooked to perfect and oh so fresh !!!

Just had the best scampi supper I have ever eaten. It came with salad and tarter sauce as well. It was worth the £10.50 I paid for it. My son got a special fish supper he asked for it to be done extra crispy and it was perfect the size of the fish was bigger than expected. The time it took to come was a lot quicker than expected. The food was hot as well. I highly recommend this chippy to come to if you are wanting the perfect chippy dinner well done to all the staff.

Pasta was £6.50 each or two for £14 with a 'free' garlic bread, so we got the £14 deal so we could have the £1 garlic bread. 🤣 It was really nice, my eldest who is very fussy ate all his bolognese tagliatelle, I had the carbonate tagliatelle. The garlic bread was delicious. Others had the Turkish delight and southern fried chicken burger. Everyone enjoyed everything. Would highly recommend, and will definitely go back if we're up this way again.

The pizzas from here used to be not half bad but the past 2 pizzas have been rotten, the dough is burned and rock hard, and the prices are top dollar too.

Always seems to be queued out the door, but everything is fresh and the food is top notch. Service is excellent too! Highly recommended.

Menu should specify a spicy burger ISNT a vegetarian spicy BEAN burger even though I said BEAN burger to the girl taking the order twice. It just says spicy burger then a list of vegetable ingredients. Went back with it. Poor service no refund offered. Asked me f I wanted the chips out the box! and girl blamed it on my accent. From Glasgow not Mars. Husbands kebab wasn't good either. Lassie needs new ears and menu needs to specify a spicy burger is BEEF. Owner blamed the computer! Pity because its our first day here and that's put a damper on it.

If you enjoy fish and chips, or something else fast food related, Bene's is a good place to visit. We ordered fish and chips, as well as battered sausage, breaded prawns and calamari. All the food was tasty and prices were reasonable. Definitely worth a try.

Hidden gem just off the main road. Parking is easy even with a motorhome as its next to the harbour car park. We had a fish and chips, it was freshly made from fresh fish. Wide range of food is on offer. Staff was friendly and helpful, it definitely worth the detour for anyone who is traveling south on the A1 👍🏼

The food portions are great the food is just ok. The best bit about the munch box was the chips. Was disappointed by the lack of flavour in the pizza and the flavour of the donner meat. However there was plenty of it.

Have just found this chip shop. It's certainly the best I have tasted for a long long time.

Ordered a “sausage” supper and it was vile. The “sausage” had the taste and texture of wallpaper paste and turned to straight mush as soon as it hit my mouth. Now I’ve had some cheap sausages in my time but this takes the cake, I never usually leave reviews either but I had to on this occasion. I know businesses are struggling at the minute but to then charge £6.70 for that, you can’t help but feel some places are taking advantage when they are using the cheapest ingredients available. Tried another bite but had to spit it out, seagulls got the rest.

Waited 40 mins outside only to discover order not done. Fish was lovely but chips dripping in grease all over me and down my trousers. Got a half hearted apology from girl. Won't be back to Port Seton, very disappointed. Please note Prestonpans shop is a joy and delight by comparison.

Service very friendly and the Fish and Chips we had were really good - we come from Weymouth which had lots of fish and chip shops and this was on par. Would highly recommend.

Poor FISH AND CHIP SHOP??? I called in at 8.55pm , asked for Fish n chips… Was told No ?? Just what’s in counter available pal?? As we close at 9.30??? Okay so that gives you 35mins to put a fish in ..??no Nope Disappointing

Good food but prices make me rarely use it nowadays. £6 for kids meal - 4 nuggets and chips. It cost me £16.50 tonight to get the beirn a delivery, a kids nuggets and a 10" pizza. And one the delivery drivers came once wi no change. But the food is great and pizzas are the best around. Just a shame about

Food over cooked and dry, staff were confrontational, the man making the pizzas was chewing gum, the man making the fish was handling raw fish with one bare hand and passing cooked fish over to staff with the other hand...Chips were good.

Don’t go to Benes Port Seton….. go to Benes Prestonpans….. the guy with the red hair in Port Seton is so rude, I live local and I’m so sick of it I don’t go in. He talks and laughs about customer in front of them, I asked him to cook a fish for me, I was the only customer and he told me to order at the till, the girl was standing next to him, he’s got the worst attitude

Freshly cooked and piping hot always come here when visiting family. Its always Braw and you can't beat fish and chips looking at the sea/harbour.

Been lots of times for fish suppers.great.but I tried a donor kebab with salad.this time.sorry but it was all kind of skin and shiny. Worst iv ever had,.travelled 2 miles to get it.my wife went back to shop .and the manager came from back shop.looked at it and asked if we wanted our money ,which we did.no apology. Just told the girl to give us a refund.

On holiday at Seton Sands & decided to give this place a try. Excellent all round, best chippy we’ve had in years and the fish was absolutely amazing. Well recommended & will definitely be back if in the area.

Whilst on a short break to Seton Sands Holiday Park we ordered fish and chips (mushy peas) for 4 adults. The staff were very pleasant and efficient and the food was absolutely delicious. The fish was freshly cooked to perfection.. The portions were plentiful and came with separate tubs of chippy sauce. Delivered to the front entrance of park by a lovely young man.. would 100% recommend and we will be back 👌

The most delicious smoked haddock supper I have ever had, melt in the mouth and generous portions. Value for money, friendly staff. If visiting Haven, it's worth the 2 minute drive or 10 minute walk.

Ordered kebabs from here. When it arrived, the pitta bread was rock solid, and you have to heat it yourself, slice it then make your own. The sauces that came with it were open and all over the inside. When I spoke on the phone I was told that’s how they do you make your own up, as it’s quicker for them, even when mentioned that pitta bread rock solid , not their problem. When I complained I had a very nasty server who said that’s how we do it you make yourself. I asked for it to be collected and a refund after huffing and puffing agreed. The driver who arrived was very apologetic, but said was instructed not to refund delivery charge. So I went to the shop and the girl that was on the phone started shouting and using foul abusive language, then shouting people are laughing at you, I pointed out that she was the one shouting and using disgusting language in front of other customers, when a customer is complained which I think that’s why , but more of embarrassment. When I spoke to the owner about allowing his staff to use foul language and shout at a complaining customer , he shouted don’t stare at me, I pointed out when speaking to someone it’s natural to look at someone your talking too, as people don’t speak with eyes shut. The owner then went to the till and threw the money at me, then told me not to use them again, which I replied i wouldn’t, then he started calling me abusive names in front of other customers. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour and they are a disgrace but obviously find it acceptable to abuse customers with complaints, would seriously recommend to stay away from this disgusting place , because if they are not happy they just shout and be abusive, the owner is an absolute disgrace, and some of his staff foul mouthed embarrassments, but when you see the state and the behaviour of the owner it makes sense. Seriously recommend going elsewhere. If you look at other poor reviews you see the pattern of the behaviour and poor quality of food

Visited yesterday and, not for the first time, had some customer service issues. Waited longer than we should for food and when my wife questioned where our food was, they had lost the ticket and questioned whether or not she had already received the food. Again, not for the first time the customer service let's this place down.

Best Chippy in East Lothian!!! Food's always fresh and piping hot and a great menu to choose from. Can be a bit busy at times but we'll worth the wait.🙂👍🏻

I don’t normally like to post negative reviews, but this place has some issues. I asked for a £3+ large chips (about 20 chips), when I queried whether that was a large the server replied “yes”. At the same time, the local guy was getting a small chips next to me which was at least twice the size. 🤔 A small sausage was £4, maybe it’s me, but they are 50p all day long at any Chippy I have ever been to. Even with the current inflation levels surely £4 is a record??? Finally, the gravy…wow! Looked like frogspawn it was that lumpy. I’m not sure the photo does it justice tbh. Even the £9 fish wasn’t anything special. Much better at half the price. Maybe if you are a local it’s better, but for me I would avoid at all costs!

Extremely disappointed with the lack of clarity on the menu, the chips are cooked in beef fat and it doesn't state it on the site where I can find! It should be in bold in the chips section. Won't be back ever!! Lost two regular customers!

Got 2 fish suppers and a sausage supper. Nice chips batter not greasy and fish cooked nicely. Very much enjoyed by our 2 Canadian visitors originally from Scotland who said the one thing Canadians can't make is good chips. Enjoyable chippie.

Not a huge chippy fan.... but guys i had special fish and the supper was 1st class !!! White pudd and buttered rolls also delicious according to family Parking nearby,plus seating by harbour and sea Friendly staff Very clean and modern, 🐳🐟🐙

We have placed a few orders from here in the past ( the past were great) unfortunately the last two times have been awful. The first time we spent £90 as we had family around and it was mediocre but we let it go as maybe having a bad night. The second time it was again around £90 and was worse it got binned. The pizza’s were burned the chicken pakora you couldn’t eat as they were rock solid, chips were ice cold same as the rest. I did call and make a complaint and next time we would get a good deal - Good Deal never happened!

Food is always amazing. Gave us a bottle of chip shop sauce with our order tonight, much appreciated. Never fail to impress, definitely recommend.

My other half had the fish and chips from here. He said the fish was perfect the chips were lovely too. Going by the queues at this shop, the food has to be good. Talking to the locals, they all had glowing reports about this place.

Delicious Fish & Chips for £9.00. I have to say, it's the nicest batter and freshest fish, I have had for a long time. Good experience as the service was also excellent.

Received this supposed ‘gourmet burger’ , which apart from looking vile and falling apart was saturated in fat, then to add insult to injury when I called to complain about the appalling state of the food received, I was talked down to, patronised and offered no apology. Have been a loyal customer for decades now, but no longer after this abysmal service , will take my loyal custom elsewhere in future

Comprehensive selection of food to take away. My experience is that with the turnover of orders every order I make is cooked fresh.

Haggis pudding was burnt burnt smell of it. Got the wee yin single sausage in batter was supposed to b small sausages but was two large ones. Could have should your shoe with the batter. Nice clean shoe but they need better fryed food.

Ordered for the first time and have to say it was beautiful. From the pasta to the mixed meat kebab it was all piping hot on arrival and extremely tasty will definitely be back

Biggest problem is the queuing once you have ordered or ordered to pick up, especially at the moment, bit of a free for all. You don't know if your order is ready. Customers hang about the entrance and a few times I've seen folk start a conversation, especially the ones without masks.. They really need some sort of ordering system, to display what orders are ready Your quicker and better going to the one in Prestonpans

Gutted after waiting 10 minutes, as I hadn't pre-ordered and the fish on show was for someone else, and mine was to be made fresh, I was give the one on show after all. Batter was dry, bottom of the fish was dry and it was loaded with bones. £8.50 for a rotten meal that went in the bin. I used to tell all my swim buddies to go to Benes as it was way better than St Andrews in Porty but won't be recommending this place again. Staff not that friendly and language was a tad off tooin front of customers.

Fantastic food, really crispy batter, would love to work through the menu!

Really gone down hill lately. Food is hit and miss, we recieved Pizzas so burt they were disintegrating in the middle (twice in a row). Every order we have placed in the last 6 months has had something wrong with it, wrong pizza, NO chicken on a chicken burger and tonight 2 Pizzas missing. Really disappointing, like all care has gone out of the window lately.
