Ben Madigan's Bar and Kitchen in Belfast

Booked a table, waited an hour on food & ended up walking out. Had to pay £8.10 for two club orange & a Pepsi. Will definitely NOT be back! Only gave 1 star because there isn't the option to give 0 stars.

Went here for a confirmation dinner,complete let down fo kids,ordered 2 kids meals, chips were not nice, ordered 2 adult steak sandwiches, when they came had to ask waitress could she see any meat in them, she returned them to the kitchen, after 45 minutes we asked to see the manager which she replied she was,became very dry, not a very good host,after a while they still didnt come back, others beside us only came in and were served before us, we ended up getting up and leaving refusing to pay the meals we did not recieve.

Been at least 7 or 8 times and haven't had a bad meal. Very courteous staff and being able to bring our dog is a huge plus. Love the way you can wear relaxed clothing and not feel unwanted (Lansdowne take note) . Can't wait to go back.

I'd the chance to grab dinner here with a pal. The food was nice, I'd a burger, side salad and chips. The chicken burger was fantastic, well cooked and dressed. The red onion side salad was great, fresh, tasty, and lots of it. The chips were nice but rationed to 7!! And that included lots of little bits of burnt chips. The service was friendly but very slow, there weren't many customers in. I will go back again. Give it a try.

Really lovely meal - three mains, 6 drinks for less than £70 - lovely atmosphere, very very clean! Staff were lovely and attentive but not hovering, relaxed atmosphere, but not scruffy. Definitely will be back :)

Fantastic place for good food and service, a little noisy some nights but, overall excellent.

Honestly a very disappointing experience. I have been before and love the roast dinners so decided to go for a birthday meal yesterday.We were told to wait in the bar upstairs as tables were running a bit behind and we would be given a complimentary drink. This was fair enough as it is a busy period of the year. The menu was a set 2 or 3 course boxing day menu which we were not aware of before hand so options for dinner were fairly limited as it is. We chose the jalapeno poppers as starters. After a 20 minute wait the server came to take our orders and informed us there was none left and no lamb left. This meant we had to further reconsider our orders as we should’ve been told before. We asked to just do 1 course due to this so we ordered 3 burgers and 2 roasts. 15 mins later we were told there was no burgers left. It is ridiculous paying for a set menu when half the set menu is unavailable. The manager decided to make sirloin burgers which ended up being tasty. The roasts were lukewarm. Each burger and chips was £23. This is a shocking price to pay and a bit of a take on considering the lack of availability of menu items. The manager told us she would sort us out when the bill came but nothing came of it. The whole atmosphere was disappointing and very disorganized. It was an hour and fifteen minutes before we actually ate. Ultimately a very unpleasant and over priced birthday meal.

Just had a beautiful meal top notch nicest food I’ve had in a long time. Staff very helpful and friendly. Will definitely be back.

Had some nice meals here, however, two significant gripes: 1. ordered the prime rib for main course. This was swapped out for short rib, but still charged at the normal price. Short rib is considerably less expensive than prime rib. Enjoyed the meal, but some warning would have been nice. 2. Ordered sticky toffee pudding. Asked if it could be served with custard instead of ice cream. Server said no problem. It came out without the sauce. The waiter explained it wouldn't taste nice if the sauce mixed with the custard (the whole point of a STP is for the sauce to mix with the custard) and that if I wanted sauce it would have to be served on the side. I did, of course, want the sauce, because otherwise my dessert would just have been a slab of pudding in a mire of creme anglaise (which had separated, slightly, but no big issue there). So, after waiting for the sauce and later getting the bill, I noticed I had been charged an extra quid for the custard. Why, I asked? Because it's home made custard. I wasn't expecting the chef to have opened a packing of Bird's. So, is the custard that comes with the apple crumble bought in? This felt quite petty on the part of the staff to charge extra (however slight the amount, or slighted the chef) for the privilege of being served homemade custard or having a STP served with sticky toffee sauce. If they're going to swap out menu items without informing the diner, they shouldn't charge extra when the diner requests a swap out when a.) it was okayed beforehand and b.) they have the item requested ready to serve in their kitchen.

Went for granddaughters birthday. Very slow service. Chicken wings extremely hot. My meal was swimming in gravy with a rather over done yorkshire pudding. My husband was asked if he wanted prawns with his steak, even though he just asked for steak. He asked if they came with the steak and was told yes. He said ok but was charged an extra £6. False information. Had asked for birthday cake to be brought out after dinner but it took forever, after several reminders. Kids ordered ice cream to have with the cake. This never came. All in all, quite disappointing.

Stopped in for a pint and the staff and Guinness were excellent. I would definitely call again. It was also dog friendly.

First time in Ben Madigans. Was in North Belfast & googled for somewhere to eat with some colleagues. Ben Madigans is a pub in Cavehill Road area and well worth a visit. Food was excellent, portions very generous, special diets catered for and staff checked with chef to make sure. Ben Madigans is friendly & welcoming, staff are excellent & customer focussed, menu is varied, prices are reasonable. Didnt wait too long for meal, prepared fresh. Will go back again .... well worth a visit to North Belfast to find this place... enjoy...

We had a group of seven and the restaurant got us in and were so accommodating. The meals and drinks were all delicious after a long drive in from Galway. Tricia, the manager, was great. Recommend!

Great place, lovely staff Christmas atmosphere 😀

I've been before and the food/atmosphere was great, so we decided to go today for Sunday lunch...what a letdown it was. We went in and the place was packed, so much so that it almost felt like everyone was sitting on top of each other. My back was rubbing against the guy behind me even though he was sitting at a different table. It was that tight. The 'Classic Ben's Fishcake' was pretty much 90% mashed potato and 10% fish. It was like wet bread with barely any fish/crab in it. There was next to no taste to it, we should've just ordered a bowl of mashed potatoes if that was the case. The Vegan Nut Roast looked amazing on the plate but again, it was like the nut roast itself was held together by plain flour, I can't describe it, it was like eating mushy flour with seeds and onions in it. There was just no taste to it apart from flour. I don't understand how the food quality has got so bad, maybe they got a new chef or something? It got to the point that I was almost gagging with every bite, so I just left most of it on the plate. There were two small pieces of triangle shaped carrots, and two small pieces of Asparagus for the vegetable potion on the plate, it was a joke. We thought the dessert would be better, but the Cheesecake just didn't taste normal either. The biscuit base felt like it was glued together and very doughy and not crumbly, and the actual cheesecake itself was crumbly/crusty? It honestly felt like it had just been left out in the open for a few days, and tasted like it was out of date. I had to leave most of that on my plate too. Another person at our table mentioned the strange taste and texture of their Cheesecake too. I just don't understand how the food has got to the point that 3 people at the table all complained about the same problems with their food. It seriously wasn't worth the money we paid. That'll be the last time we go here. Next time we'll go somewhere else.

We Called in for lunch during the week. Service was fantastic throughout. Excellent choice from the menu Inc lunch time menu. The food was 1st class. A credit to the owners and staff.

We had a late lunch today . Customer service was excellent as was the food. We all ordered from the lunch menu. Prices very reasonable especially for the quality of the food. Recommend the steak sandwich. Thank you!

This was the most unbelievable food I’ve ever eaten in my entire life - no joke. The soup was PERFECTION and the beef literally melted off my fork I cannot get over how unreal this was!!! Also the service is 5* cannot rate high enough!!!

Ben Madigans has definitely improved its food menu however this afternoon 2 out of the 4 adults didn't enjoy their meal. My husband had ordered the pork rib, it was over cooked and difficult to cut, he left half of it. Ben Madigans is a great bar, no doubt but...the food is variable and on a busy bank holiday it wasn't great today.

Can I just tell you how delicious this restaurant was? I will definitely be back when back in Belfast. What a flippin treat. The food was absolutely spectacular. We shared four incredible appetizers, that had us feeling just ready for the amazing entrees we had. Jeepers, I had the prime rib and my partner had the spicy chicken mushroom pasta: they were incredible! Mouth watering delicious food. Come here and let your tastebuds be ticketed with full flavoured food, with good service in a family friendly environment. Enjoy!

Visited and had 3 courses and did not disappoint at all. Would highly recommend especially for the silverside roast beef dinner, also had a cocktail after, nice way to finish a great meal

Atmosphere was nice and the place was busy and lively. We weren't able to eat in but staff member was rude and just didn't seem to care or no empathy at all, which just ruined it. Heard great things about the place, but staff just let it down.

Top restaurant food that you would expect in Belfast town centre the food was exceptional and beautifully presented. Staff and service top notch. And atmosphere was really good everybody just having a great time. Definitely recommend it and will go again.👍

If there is a better Sunday Carvery anywhere in Belfast, I challenge you to show me it! Portions were huge, perfectly cooked and if your on the fence about ordering the Carvery Platter, dont be! Brilliant value for money! First time but wont be the last time!

Friendly and attentive staff, nice decor, fair enough selection of drinks, but let down by the food. Burgers not great and nachos were terrible - red sauce instead of salsa; spring onions instead of guacamole and artificial (squirty) sour cream. You really need to up the game with the food, guys. And in response to the owner's response... never a good idea to suggest your regular punters are somehow mad, or don't realize where they are eating! The nachos I referred to were served to us in April 2021. Not my fault it's taken over 2 years to respond to my review!! I actually have photos - with said nachos, my daughter and the Ben Madigans sign (we eat outside) all clearly visible; I'll show you next time I'm in rather than post here - as I know your menu has changed since. So, rather than suggest your customers are confused, accept that sometimes chefs have bad days too, and perhaps suggest eating there again and revising their review. I wouldn't leave it a couple of years though...

Called in for an evening dinner, the service was quick, friendly, outgoing, and attentive and the food was absolutely gorgeous, large portions and very tasty. Happy to recommend 😊

My first time there for fathers day luvly staff and heard great words about ben madigans but my steak was so tuff and wasnt 10oz found it difficult to chew it 😡 i never complained but i should have , my friend was there same time and he said his was tender so i will leave it at that 😢 i must of just got a bad steak 😢 no chef should have sent that steak out as it was meant to be medium done 😡

Went here at recommendation of a local. One of the tastiest meals we have had on our vacation to date! The buffalo cauliflower bites were some of the best we have ever had. The chicken and wild mushroom pasta was delicious. My partner was also pleasantly surprised to find Guinness Zero on tap. Would absolutely recommend!

Lovely bar with a great drinks selection but the food has become very hit and miss, especially the steaks and burgers which should be the simplest things to cook on the menu.

Such a great local Bar and restaurant. Food is amazing. Wings for starters and the featherblade beef is unreal. Friendly staff and good prices.

Was busy, but it was a bank holiday yet they were able to fit us in which was nice of them. The food portions are quite big. Attentive service.

My kids and I are visiting Ireland from the states and staying nearby. We had a great dinner here and the locals were fun to talk too as well as great service.

First time here and disappointed. First thing I ordered wasn’t available on the menu. No offer to get drinks when seated so had to wait at busy bar to order and get ourselves. When food was bought to table I asked if she could take a drinks order and she did. By the time I finished or food there was no sign of drinks. So I cancelled them paid bill and left. Food was ok. But it was the overall service I was most disappointed in. Won’t be back.

Starter was great(pork bellies) but my choice of main being Thai red curry was poor.really,really, really mild like no chili what so ever.I did request to have it spicy but nothing,more like a carbonara with rice.

First time in Ben Madigan ,Cave Hill Road Belfast .We live 5 minutes away and i never knew that they serviced food of this grade .Their Menu is exceptional and changes often to catch and flavour the taste buds .extremely inviting and the Staff, Patricia and at this time I didn't catch the names of the others ,but I will when I return very soon , were so friendly and attentive .They cater for all ,what I found very surprising, every meal on their menu , is very well explained for allergies and vegans etc . You will most definitely not be disappointed . Thank you Ben Madigan we have found our new local . Louise Mcclenaghan

Out for lunch with hubby. I booked online, though there was plenty of space, but I felt it’s good to let them know. The food arrived very quickly and was delicious as always. A real treat for hubby was the specials - mussels to start and a lobster served with scallops, a selection of sauces and sides. Love this place and would recommend it to anyone.

Amazing service and amazing food. Highly recommended. Although on the day I went I had made the reservation online and nowhere did it say it would be a set menu that night. However the chef made accommodations for my sister and made something off the set menu which we really appreciated. Never seen better service

Fabulous food. Fabulous staff. Really comfortable, clean attractive bar/restaurant. The only problem it's so good, we had to eat and leave so that our table could be vacated for someone else. We would have liked to stay longer.

The manager was so rude to my husband. Won't be back.
