Sat here with a pint, lovely little pub garden, it's near the water meadow walk and there's nothing nicer than to do this walk and finish off here in the sunshine. Inside is lovely too and very cosy with a great Sunday roast in the winter.

We have chosen The Bell Inn on several occasions, for a pint or two of something tasty, now that we live in Whitchurch (having also frequented here many times prior to moving to the town). Of all the pubs in Whitchurch, The Bell Inn is reminiscent of times gone-by, where a traditional cozy feel exudes on each and every visit. The atmosphere is always lively and convivial at The Bell Inn. Music is often played (jukebox or otherwise) and the huge fire is often lit, in colder months, providing added to warmth to the already cozy feel. There are also television screens available for viewing sports events. The Bell Inn will can offer you regionally brewed beers/ales and gins, to assist you in soaking-up the Bell’s charm. I understand food is served, but have not eaten here as yet. There are plenty of wooden beams in sight here, as well as local and shipping/naval memorabilia. A real treat, for lovers of a ‘classic’ pub environment! The hosts are friendly and welcoming. Sitting on stools alongside the bar itself is welcomed here, and not considered an imposition. Overall, a fantastic venue to go to for decent drinks, relaxation and for socialising!

I visited The Bell with a group of friends (10 of us in total). I usually buy half a pint of cider when I go out for lunch and have resigned myself over the years to the mass-produced semi-alcoholic lemonade which passes for cider in most pubs. I was, therefore, overjoyed to find that The Bell serves really good old-fashioned REAL cider and would have ordered a pint if I hadn't had to return home on the bus! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and told us that fish was on special offer that day, so several of us ordered the various fish courses on the menu. I chose breaded plaice which, when it arrived, turned out to be a lovely large portion almost the size of the plate and served with chips, peas and dressed salad. I followed it up with lemon roulade, which was served with cream. Excellent value for money and I might go there again on my own some time.

I stopped off at this pub for a quick beer before playing a show locally, having previously visited the other two big pubs in the centre of Whitchurch. Despite the outside misleading atmosphere of a quaint village local, when stepping through the door I was met with the all-too-common dystopian imagery of a crowd of men standing at the bar, wordless, with their eyes transfixed on a big screen showing football. A shame about that ruining the atmosphere somewhat, because for the rest of my stay the pub was rather enjoyable. The barman was friendly and helpful enough, and the pub was clean enough. I particularly enjoyed all the cold war-era maps displayed en route to the toilets, but then, I am something of a cartography nerd. The beer, also, was of a decent enough quality and they had a nice selection. They stocked some of my old favourite ales along with some I had not tried before. Of the other pubs in Whitchurch, I would probably say this one is better than the White Hart, but falls slightly short of the King's Arms, although this one is more affordable than the latter in that regard.

5 of us met here for lunch - very friendly staff, good beers (London Pride and Doombar) and lovely pub grub. It was Friday so there was a special deal on fish and chips with lots of choice. Dogs particularly welcome. Lots of people in the pub having lunch which is always a good sign. If you want a traditional pub without any pretensions but a lovely warm welcome and a cosy and friendly environment this is well worth a visit. The food was exceptional value. The town is worth a visit with lots of walks along the River Test, and a Silk Mill to visit.

Away from the centre of the town, a small local pub which had a good selection of beers, the menu was average and looked to be at reasonable prices, no one was eating so I avoided ordering.
