We visited the Bell and Bear today and we will definitely be visiting again. After a busy weekend we decided to eat out. After a quick Google, I found the bell and bear, after seeing the wonderful food photos on facebook we drove down. The car park was full which is always a good sign. The atmosphere was welcoming and, as it was a glorious sunny day, we decided to sit outside, the view was spectacular! We ordered a beef Sunday roast, 2 fish and chips and the kids mixed grill. The food was delicious. We have lived in the area for 17 years and drove past hundreds of times and can't believe it's taken us so long to pop in!

Been for a meal twice with my hubby since the refurbishment( we’ve been many times before). Absolutely love the refurb, the atmosphere and the staff are wonderful. Our Saturday evening meal was delicious and our Sunday lunch was outstanding. Can’t fault this pub, definitely my favourite.

Was looking forward to our visit after refurb which has been done very nicely. I must agree with previous posters in that too many tables leads to a cramped eating experience and the 'cosy' feeling which it once had has disappeared. Staff are excellent, friendly, helpful and hard working. I was disappointed in the menu. The old menu was short and sweet with most things worth trying. The new menu is enormous which seems to indicate that some dishes are brought in and reheated. No way could many of the offerings be made from scratch. It has certainly lost a lot of its old atmosphere.

Recently had a refurbishment and managed to keep its friendly atmosphere. The team are always very friendly and greet everyone as if they are regulars as many are. The food is always hot and portions generous. In all, a true pub where families are welcome.

As a regular for many years to the Bell and Bear I have got to say the refurbishment of the property has been carried out to a nice standard. This has obviously attracted a larger footfall. But the downside is the quality and quantity of the food. For those of us who enjoyed the previous offerings as regulars this has come as a bit of a shock. No longer a quality ingredient wholesome meal but now a overpriced offering to appeal to occasional diners to obviously pay for the works. Much better places to eat now which is a real shame. Avoid the weekends and days leading to them. By the way the staff are top notch and work their socks off but need more help.

Lovely pub and always a very warm and friendly welcome. The food is absolutely spot on and always well presented and tasty with good portion sizes. Recently just re-opened from a refurbishment and it looks lovely! It has retained the rustic country pub character, which is great and really lovely to see. On a negative note, they have lost the relaxed pub atmosphere I feel by cramming in too many tables, all very close together in rows with little room between them to get in and out of your seat. You could literally pinch chips from the table next to you which is not very private really when having conversations with family and friends, nor is it very comfortable sadly. I would go back for food as I do like their meals, but I certainly wouldn't just pop in for a drink as it's not comfortable seating and the layout is just way too busy unfortunately. It's a shame really.

This pub has always been really good for food. We hadn't been for quite a while, however the 2 young serving staff on a Friday afternoon at 4.00 PM really deserve some recognition. I've had worse service at venues costing 3 times as much. Polite, attentive, helpful yet still able to have a laugh with the locals and manage a bar and restaurant very effectively. I hope management recognize their abilities in their role.

Had a loverly catch up with friends. The food was ok. Cheap attempt at a steak & ale pie, not much filling, pie lids must be pre cooked & just popped onto the top of the dish ! But the worst thing about the place is the toilets, they smell so bad, they are horrible. My wife went & said the ladies toilets smell & the locks are broken. We will only go back if we hear they have been refurbished & don’t smell 🤮

A lovely afternoon treat with my husband and mother-in-law. My husband had fish and chips, while me and my mother-in-law opted for the roast pork cob and a side of chips. Substantial meals, the side of chunky chips is very generous. Everything piping hot. If I could add something to the cob it would be more stuffing and a gravy. The pork was tasty but I did find it a little dry with just the cob alone. Otherwise a lovely treat on a cold winters day.

We have been coming to this pub for a number of years now. In the last few months the prices have gone up and up. The portion sizes have alway been on the large side, but recently they have been getting smaller and smaller. Maybe these are signs of the cost of living crisis, but surely you should not be charging for loyalty. Come on Bell and bear get back to how you used to be.

Also, they've signs for cash is king etc so with many places refusing cash, please use it here. They see all of the money opposed to a bank taking a share. We have visited this pub a number of times and really enjoy the food and atmosphere. The food is home cooked ‘pub grub’ but really hearty and flavoursome. I’ve had the vegetarian lasagne and it’s really nice and seasoned well. They are happy to adjust dishes too if you ask, which they have done for us everytime we have visited. The puddings are nice with the cheesecake being a favourite choice, although they used to be a bit more generous on the portion size, and I’m sure the price has increased slightly (but still nice if you enjoy a pudding and that’s me being a tad overzealous on my puddings haha) It can get busy in there which I always think is a good sign, but it’s always worth calling and booking a table before arrival to save disappointment.
