This is a beautiful (ALWAYS BUSY) cafe hidden in the middle of the road. It offers a beautiful sanctuary to retreat from the busy life to meet with family and loved ones so you can catch up, have breakfast and enjoy the warm interior and then stunning selections of foods and snacks. Their coffee is delicious and it comes in a MASSIVE mug, liquid love in a cup for sure. They have a beautiful outdoor seating area if the weather decides to allow some warmth and sunshine it is a great area to socialise int be outdoors. Highly recommend :)

Always like coming here as food is tasty plus nice atmosphere, also learnt there was an outside terrace this time which was very relaxing. Was a bit taken back by the cost of an ice latte (£4.90), particularly when you have to order yourself.

My wife and I love Beanz and have been there loads with our children since we moved to Eastbourne, so I’m really sad to report this. I went in for breakfast with my four year old son and asked for beans on toast (what I thought, for a cafe, would be a pretty simple order) and was told that I could only have one of 2 kids ‘set’ meals - and so I would be paying the same price if I wanted just beans on toast. I said it was ridiculous (which, come on, it is) and then I got aggressively challenged by another staff member for being rude! It is not rude! He then had a real rant at me saying stuff like ‘just because you can’t get what you want’. Now I am not a fan of what this implied - as anyone who has their own children will know, food is a negotiation! This left us feeling very rubbish and ruined what was meant to be a lovely time between me and my little boy - who is four and does have simple tastes. I don’t feel like returning and think this inflexibility is - as I said originally, a bit ridiculous.

This place is definitely not for kids. My friend and I wanted to go for breakfast here with her 1 year old son as we had heard the food was lovely. It was a such a nice day so we asked if we could sit outside and for a high chair for her one-year-old son. They told us this wasn't possible as it would be a fire hazard. We asked how that could be.. and if they could rearrange the chairs or take one inside that could be replaced by a high chair. The young lady then asked what I can only assume to be a manager/supervisor who gave us a completely different reason as to why kids were not allowed to sit outside, they have a problem with ants nests in the garden and children will drop food on the floor. Needless to say we took our business elsewhere.

The food is good but the service is inconsistent. You are asked to order at the front. Cutlery and some condiments are on the table but others you have to ask. You see three young waitresses loitering and when you ask for some tap water you're told to go fetch it yourself. The food is on the expensive side, even as a Londoner, so you'd think they can help. Was not given receipt or asked if we want one. They do not offer substitutions eg cannot change meat from veg sausages. No accessible toilet.

The veggie breakfast is absolutely amazing. The portion is very large, would be nice to have an option to have a small version. The music and atmosphere is great. The garden is lush. However, the price for breakfast is too high, it is now 16.50 which is just far too much for breakfast. Beanzzz used to be a great place for food but sadly the service has gone downhill and the prices are extortionate that it ruins the experience. Service is met without a smile and any friendliness. Male owner is rude and grumpy. Once stared at us the whole time we were eating. Food has gone up extremely in price and I'm not sure how it's justified. £5.20 for a milkshake is daylight robbery. They have reduced the seating in there so there's not many places to sit. They moan on social media about customers not being happy about wait time and how they're spoken to, but with the poor service you're receiving and the high price you're paying, I'm not surprised. They've taken a step back from social media, which is a good thing, as it's putting people off visiting with how negative they always are.

Have been here a couple of times, yep, it's hip and trendy or whatever but was not impressed this morning at all!! Sat on a sofa as that was the only space left, fair enough, with a very small plank for a table. Once a table became free we decided to move, waitress not happy at all but I said twice about medical condition (2 wk post surgery for hip replacement) and was eventually moved after turning down a tray on our laps!!! (What the...)!! Paid £35 for 2 breakfasts and 2 cappuccino's, yes high end prices you'd think service would show this but nope. The boss man who stands idly at the front door for no reason refused to let me add bacon or similar to my plate without standing in the queue again which was hanging out the door!! When ordering I wasn't asked what kind of eggs benedict I wanted, just put it through and I hadn't realised! £35 for breakfast and I had to queue again!! No chance and no way am I returning!! It seems a fair few people have said this too!

Then said you work here for 2 weeks and see how annoying it is when people move. He then said if we didn’t move back to our original table then we would have to leave. Will not be returning. TL:DR; use to be great food at an excellent price. Now good food at a very expensive price. 4 years after original review, I need to lower my rating. Revised menu with less items but much higher prices, more than any other cafe in the area. Food that should now be better quality, due to revision and price, is just good, no longer great. Staff are good people and the atmosphere is nice as they play good music but the setting and food, for the price you pay, makes it very difficult for it to be worth the money. Use to go alot and recommend to all, now will probably swerve and venture to a similar establishment that isn't charging lots more and providing less. *old review* Delicious food and great coffee

I ordered the smashed avocado and the eggy toast, with a cortado and americano. The avocado in both dishes had a good texture. The bread was also ok. That’s really the best I can say about both dishes. The failure of both was that they were so poorly seasoned and garnished. The sun dried tomatoes were not tasty and the chilli didn’t bring up the avocado. A balsamic would have been better? Something to add some more interest to the avocado would have been a better choice. I guess the thrust of my review is that the dishes did not taste like restaurant level food (but were priced as such). It shouldn’t take much to fix - just some more thought and care in preparation.

However i returned around mother’s day with my mum and had the manager make us feel like we were bothering him. I work in the catering industry full time and really do sympathise with beanz employees and managers due to how busy it gets, but this day wasn’t too busy and considering i only asked a couple of questions politely i didn’t see a reason for the blunt answers. As someone who often overthinks it really ruined my experience and i won’t be returning. I was a regular client of this place and found it satisfactory overall. The set up is nice and the kitchen is good but the coffee could be better. However, I had an issue with customer service, especially with Carl, the manager (and I think the owner too). On a particular day in November, I returned to the place after being too busy before. When I came back, there were several tables available, but Carl insisted on seating me in the same inconvenient place as before, which I rejected. I left feeling upset, as he was unwilling to accommodate my simple request (not the first time either). I came back after a few minutes, hoping to get an explanation from Carl as to why he always expects me, as a single person, to be seated in places which I find uncomfortable when there are plenty of choices available. I told him calmly that I knew he didn't like me and that I didn't like him either due to the vibes I got from him but I wasn't ranting or making a scene; regardless I just wanted to tell him, that I felt indeed discriminated whenever he directs me to the same sort of seats. He ended up saying: “if you don't like me just go somewhere else” and I said: “of course I don't like you… why should I? You always seem in a hurry to get rid of me, always asking me too eagerly “take away?” when is obvious I'm approaching the seating area and when you know quite well that I never actually do that, so no, I really I don't, you never nice to me and in fact you are always a jerk (or a..hole) and left (no shouting). After a few months, I wasn't in any hurry to go back, but my friend wanted to try it and I was curious because I actually thought he might had changed for the better! I did mention the incident to her but honestly I didn't think it had resulted in me being banned. However, we were denied entry on the grounds of my “abusive behaviour” despite my friend showing clear signs of mobility issues due to her disability. Again I think that alone is a complete lack of any professional judgement. Now after reading the rather inaccurate and biased response to my friend’s review by Beanzz “spokesperson” I feel compelled to write about my experience. I realised that I should have known better, especially in a place where when one speaks out about anything due bad customer service the only answer is “sorry about that” without any attempt to do better. If you are willing to put up with an attitude that takes customers for granted please call into this place but keep in mind there are plenty of good choices nearby that genuinely will value you regardless of the size of your party or your seat preferences.

Popped in for a bite to eat as I liked the lampshades and was comforted by how busy the establishment was. Nicely decorated and well appointed, we grabbed a table and checked out the menu, full English £14.20 for me and a veggie breakfast for my wife at £14.20, with a couple of lattes at £7+ The veggie option has Avocado, my wife's not a fan so that was removed. The full English comes with black pudding and sausages, I dont like either and requested them to not be served, I did however ask for a bacon as a replacement, and was told in a sharp manner "I WILL be charging you for the bacon, so do you still want it?" Now at £3.00 for an extra slice this full English is coming in at £17.20 without a drink. It had better be good. Prices Additional Sausage £3.20 Additional Bacon £3.00 Additional Black pudding £2.80 Additional Avocado £3.90 We removed £9.90 according to their retail prices. Having the audacity to charge a customer another £3 with a straight face is beyond me. That's my first gripe The food is not all that, served in what looks like a dog food bowl. I STRONGLY suspect the majority of which had been microwaved. Poached eggs are a dead giveaway as were the mushrooms. Precooked bacon then zapped too. The bread was very good though so they definitely have a toaster. My wife left her veggie sausages, she actually removed the partially chewed substance with a tissue, not something I can ever recall her doing in 30 years of marriage. The staff were friendly enough, although I get the impression that they'd rather you ate and left ASAP. They have strict rules in this place with regards to devices and hey I'm not complaining, I think to many people hug a coffee, taking up tables whilst working away from the office. It must really hurt turning customers away. But in this day and age its a brave policy non the less. I think the staff could do with retaining to talk directly to their team leaders, rather than shouting their toilet needs across the dining floor! I should have read the other reviews before entering :( much nicer establishments within walking distance.

Used to be our go to breakfast place every weekend, always great food, good cake and welcoming staff, we feel has since gone downhill a bit lately, the last breakfast we ordered, came out super quick and none of it tasted like it was cooked fresh, the sausage had a weird taste like it was boiled? I could be wrong, We fully understand that the place gets busy and the staff on the floor are always really friendly but we felt the man on our last visit, that I assume is the owner, stood right next to us while we were eating, kept staring at us like he was waiting for us to hurry up and eat to get the table back, Not sure what his role was being on the floor, it seemed like he was keeping an eye on the staff or something, We didn't like the atmosphere or the food this time, shame

We love this café. All the foods we've tried have been delicious. The place is lively and is a phone/laptop/tablet free zone which makes a refreshing change. They also make the best milkshake ever. We eat the veggie breakfast and it's our favourite from anywhere. The cakes are to die for too. Garden out back in the summer is an unexpected bonus.

Great coffee shop for meeting up with friends. They do not accommodate multiple young children or double prams very well and I therefore wouldn't recommend for this basis. Front of house staff suggested that I left my double pram outside on the street, where it was at risk of being stolen. Disappointed!

I had the full monty breakfast. It was delicious! Unfortunately they don't do a small breakfast option so I ended up leaving half! Beans flooded my plate which wasnt for me, maybe that's why it's called Beanz! £14ish for the food.

Dec 23 Sadly have had to amend my previous review in the light of subsequent experiences. The owner (male) has frankly made us feel patronised, a nuisance and unwelcome. He really should not be front of house regardless of the justifications for his "naturally scowling countenance" outlined by his co-owner on another major review site. If you are working in a service industry granted there will be days when it can feel a challenge, and if one's own countenance in repose is naturally unsmiling then somehow you need to slap one on and then engage with your customers. It's a shame because the staff in general are lovely and the food great. But we stopped patronising Beanz on the back of the owner's "unfortunate manner" Pre Jan23 review Great food, and lovely vibe. Rigid about kitchen closing at 2.50 even for regular customers, we arrived at 2.50 and staff member who showed us to table said to us to order at the counter but didn't think to say food orders finishing now. 4 mins later we were too late. Left with a bit of a bruise ....

I stepped into Beanzz this afternoon at 15:40 - clutching my phone, iPad and car keys - following an investigative walk past a couple of properties for sale in the immediate area. Fully aware of the imminent closing time of 16:00, my intention was to enjoy a cup of coffee, a slice of cake, and to look at the properties’ details on the Rightmove App, before heading home. After clarifying that it was coffee and cake I wanted, rather than the more substantial kitchen offerings, I was told by a staff member that I would not be allowed to use my 9.7” iPad. Naturally I asked why. The answer was that they did not want people working in the establishment using laptops or iPads. I let them know that I was not working and that I would be using the Rightmove app upon my iPad to look at a couple of properties I had just seen. Permission was still firmly refused. It became apparent however, that I would be allowed to view the very same Rightmove app upon my phone (a 6.8” Samsung Galaxy Ultra). For clarification, and with the remaining coffee-drinking, cake-quaffing, and property detail-viewing time now reduced to a meagre 17 minutes, I asked for confirmation that I would be allowed to view the Rightmove app on my phone, but I would not be allowed to view the very same app on my iPad. This was indeed confirmed. Firmly confirmed. Thinking I had travelled through a time warp into an episode of Fawlty Towers, Beadles About, or the ‘Jobsworth’ segment of That’s Life - I let it known that I had decided not to offer my custom. One of the issues with age-related degenerative eye conditions is that the smaller the text or image, the more difficult it is to see – and, of course, the reverse. So off I went to the delightful café just opposite on the corner. The title of this review may seem a little suggestive, but to many people, three inches truly does matter. A lot.

Invited to go here to meet with colleagues who work at the nearby Town Hall. On opening my laptop an extremely rude waiter came - with the apparent intention of closing the lid on it himself - and proclaimed "no laptops", and pointed at an A4 highly text-written piece of paper on the wall, this written in English language and quite lengthy. There is nothing [to date] on the website or Facebook stating that the cafe is a laptop-free zone. Whilst this is admirable, and maybe even a selling point to some, the rudeness of the waiter was breath-taking, and resulted in my entire party leaving the cafe, very unlikely ever to return. Although anything the cafe, the owner or its staff can do is likely to win my custom, in order to keep others I would [1] Declare the cafe a laptop free zone proudly and boldly across all social media and web presence, [2] use emoji-style signage to declare the rule (a laptop in a red Cross perhaps?), and [3] make sure their staff are courteous at all times which evidently they are not. One bad apple...

Six of us looking forward to a trip to Beanz after being frequent customers for years. Asked the male employee at front of house (who turned out to be incredibly snarky, rude and obnoxious) to call us when a table became free for us. Informed we would have to stand outside and wait for 45 minutes, and that if we walked off from the front of the store we would be removed from the wait list. Absolutely terrible customer service from the staff. Avoid at all costs

I have visited this establishment on multiple occasions as I always enjoy the food. However, the experience I have received every time I visit from the front of house manager is always aggressive, stressy and rude and you are hit with all their rules immediately. In addition the vibe is intended to be relaxed, but as a customer you always feel like you are rushed to give up your table! We have approached him about his attitude and customer service style and he has talked us down and belittled us and then told us to leave if we don’t like it, which we did. It is a real shame. We previously messaged the restaurant when he behaved like it before and received no reply, but gave it the benefit of the doubt as we liked the food, only for the behaviour to be repeated. Whilst waiting outside another couple arrived and were treated the same way. They gave up and said they don’t need the attitude and rules.

Absolutely love Beanzz, I enjoy visiting there every morning for my coffee and a chat. I can not believe I’m reading reviews about how rude the staff are, 9 times out of 10 if someone is rude to you it’s because you are being rude to them! So maybe you should take a long hard look at yourself before you write your poor me posts!

Fantastic café on all counts, exceptional food, service, and ambiance. Never disappoints with their breakfast/brunches, generous portions made with high quality ingredients. Staff are always upbeat and the music is exactly right for creating a great atmosphere. If only it stayed open later in the day! We came a bit late for hot food and so we ordered cakes and teas instead, the staff gave us some free dairy milk chocolate bars! So kind 🍫😍

I often go to Beanzz with friends as the food and coffee is good, but I increasingly have mixed feelings about the place. The positives: - the food is consistently good, - the portions are immense (eat breakfast at Beanzz and you definitely do not need any lunch, possibly not even dinner!) - they serve a decent cup of coffee (which only a handful of places in Eastbourne seem able to do). - their garden is beautiful. - they have a variety of vegan options. The negatives: They have become victims of their own success: - Beanzz always seems to be busy (that’s a good thing), but that makes it REALLY noisy - it’s not a chilled-out chatty vibe, it’s so noisy that my throat was sore after I left this past weekend, from raising my voice such that my friends could hear me speak over the din. The high ceilings, hard floors, wooden tables & chairs, bounce the sound around terribly, and sadly the recent addition of a couple of sofas doesn’t seem to have helped. Maybe some rugs would absorb some sound. - On our last visit (a bright sunny autumn day) the garden was closed which is such a shame - If they had patio heaters, the garden would be a lovely place to sit all year around. Someone said the steps were too slippery (In which case brush away the leaves & paint them with non non-slip paint), but I suspect it is more that the kitchen cannot keep up with orders at busy times when both the cafe and garden are full. - Carl (one of the owners) comes across as extremely stressed-out when it is busy, and can be very abrupt and unwelcoming. Bianca, on the other hand, is always smiling and polite. On several occasions he has told us we would need to wait 30-45 minutes for a table, but has then seated us almost immediately (what is that all about?). My friend attempted to make polite conversation by asking him a question, to which he snapped “No” and turned away. You get the feeling that he doesn’t want you there, and that’s a shame, since the customers are what make the place successful, and at quieter times he really is a lot more congenial.

I visit Beanzz frequently. I enjoy the food and the serving staff are all great. I have had a number of interactions with the man who appears to be the manager all of which have been passive aggressive and negative on his part. Today after being ushered outside into the cold with a 9 month old baby, without complaint, we also ordered coffees whist waiting for a table. The manager came out without apology, please or thankyou exclaiming to my 76 year old mother that we could not place the chairs where we had. It was very awkward and the delivery and tone unnecessary. We did eat but on reflection I will not be visiting again, which is a real shame and entirely caused by the manager. I hope he improves for the sake of their business.

I’ve been the Foundry 4/5 times & I always find the staff efficient and pleasant. The drinks are tasty and at reasonable price and I really enjoy sitting at the counters at the front facing into the station watching people mill about while drinking from the weird cups (bamboo, maybe?) The only thing I haven’t enjoyed is a vegan muffin which was a bit dry. Last week my ditzy friend tipped her hot chocolate over me (thank goodness I had layers on!). It made quite a mess on me, the countertop and the floor and the lovely barista quickly supplied us a load of blue roll to clean ourselves up. While I tried to dry my clothes as much as possible, my friend’s drink was replenished. My friend saw the same the barista most gentlemanly assist an elderly man to get up from his seat (assistance was required!) and get moving. Anyway, I’ll be there again & again.
