Athens in Eastbourne

Best place in town. We live in north Lincolnshire but when we are down this way we always go for a meal... Very friendly, good food excellent prices. What more do you need..

Was recommended this restaurant from one further down the road. Was a little disappointed with the food, as it had little flavour. Also, what I do have trouble with is the restaurant adding a service charge. I will determine whether I leave a tip and if the service has been good enough.

Great place, fantastic food and good fun entertainment.

Just had a takeaway from these guys via my wife from Deliveroo, the delivery timeframe was good but the food was absolute garbage. The meat was dry and disgusting, chips were minimal and soggy, tomatoes in the salad were missing and my wife’s food was no better, If you live in Eastbourne and want Greek food go to Streatgreek as their food is miles better.

Steve & Family smashed it out the park my wife & I was the last couple Steve let through the door. You best book when you eat here the experience as well as atmosphere is 100% full on. Mum's food that comes out of that kitchen puts this restaurant on the map as a must visit. This is a family run outfit that will blow other local restaurants out of the water. Definitely will be returning Steve and niece thanks for looking after Sandra & I love to all of you there

My sister raved about this place so we went for her bday and it lived up to its expectations! Such lovely home style hospitality and food was delicious. The house red wine was lovely and the hosts made us feel a million dollars. Thank you for a fabulous evening. We will be back again as soon as we in town!

Well what can I say, but this was some of the best fun I've had in many months! The entertainment from the staff was incredible with your host performing karaoke! The food was exceptional too, the kleftico was very good. Can't fault it, perfect entertainment for Christmas time. Loved it!

3 of us went for a bday meal. Both the others have been many times before so highly recommended the place. Food was good. They were obviously busy so I think struggled abit. Didn't sway me to think I've gota go back there ASAP because it's out of this world

Delicious food you’ll not regret

Recently had a wonderful birthday party dinner ant the Athens and happy to inform that the food, staff and ambiance was perfect for our group of 14. The staff and owners family really made the evening a fun and very enjoyable event.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a Greek restaurant called Athens. The restaurant is located in the main street behind the pier and it has a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they were happy to make recommendations. I ordered the Tbone steak, and it was absolutely amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly, and it was so tender that it melted in my mouth. The flavor was also incredible, and it was perfectly seasoned. I also tried the moussaka, and it was also delicious. The moussaka was creamy and flavorful, and it was a perfect portion size. We also ordered a bottle of wine, and it was a perfect pairing with our meal. The wine was full-bodied and flavorful, and it really enhanced the flavors of the food. Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience at Athens. Just had the most enjoyable evening with owners of this restaurant the food was absolutely fantastic great taste to every dish you made the whole night out of this world for my family who came from America for a birthday celebration you are far better than some top restaurants that I have been to you should be so proud of what you serve it is spot on thanks for the night it made my Mum and Dads trip wonderful that have not stopped talking about it. 😘😘😘

Although extremely busy the food was delivered within a reasonable time and was well worth waiting for as it tasted great. I was very impressed. It was unusual getting gravy with a mixed grill but I loved it!

Took my girlfriend for an evening meal advised we hadn’t booked and was told they have a table but would need it clear by 8:30pm which wouldn’t be a problem as it was only 7pm when we arrived, we ordered drinks, a starter and mains, we received our starter and then proceeded to wait 50 minutes for our main course, I asked the waitress for an update on my order she said that we are next yet proceeded to bring food out for other tables, she then spoke to me like a 2nd class citizen and said can’t you see we are busy and you didn’t book (whether we booked or not you don’t pre order food when you book and made it clear even tho it’s airbourne today we are managing just fine) clearly not, then when she brought the food out proceeded to give me a sarcastic smile and waving the plates in the air to make it known it’s our food, as I paid for the food I advised the waitress that took the payment about what happened she said oh you mean my sister no apology no I’ll pass your comments on, overall poor customer service, average food, you couldn’t pay me to go back.

I came here with my partner tonight and was really excited for him to experience it, as I’d had a lovely meal here about 10 years ago. It started fine, we hadn’t booked but they got us seated anyway. We ordered a starter to share and our mains. The starter took about 30 minutes (a bowl of houmus and some pitta, how does that take 30 mins??) the main took 50 minutes. I’m not too bothered about the wait, but the incredibly RUDE waitress is a problem! Whilst we waited 3 other tables that came in after us got their meals before us, the waitress told us we were next, yet 2 others tables got their meals before we did…my partner asked politely how long it would be and was told ‘you can see we are busy, and you didn’t book’ then when she finally brought out meals out she waved the plates on her way over as if to say ‘here you go’ when paying the bill I mentioned this rude woman to the woman taking our payment who was a bit more polite but still abrupt, saying ‘oh you mean my sister?’ It’s such a shame the staff here haven’t grasped how to treat customers, horrible atmosphere, definitely won’t return and highly advise avoiding this place! You get better service in McDonald’s.

Went to Athens tonight as a date night where should I begin Starters beautifully presented and delicious only thing I wish was that I got a photo to share but no faults here Mains as the picture's the lamb was perfectly cooked falling off the bone the way I would hope it would the rice and potatoes complemented perfectly and the lasagna had amazing flavours was perfect Desert we had the red velvet cheese cake, twice. again the texture and consistency was on point that ended up getting a 2nd helping presentation was also fantastic Wine went with the house special was a white wine I would strongly recommend was great to taste and wasn't to heavy Staff.. well fantastic, great communication, was not pushy at all, kind, considerate and also very informative great recommendations All in all perfect experience and look forward to returning when the father in law comes to visit 10/10 thank you guys

We had a wonderful meal here last night. Helen was amazing, made us feel really welcome with her wonderful service. The food was lovely, we had the souvlaki and stiffado, plus bread and a few beers. The food was obviously cooked with love! Can highly recommend.

Unlike a recent reviewer (and I appreciate that reviews are of personal opinion), I would highly recommend Athens in Eastbourne (UK). This visit was my first (of many I hope) and we were there for a friends birthday celebration. Food: The food I received was amazing, mixed dips and pitta, then Kleftiko (Lamb Shank), absolutely amazing! Others had different dishes and all said the same. Staff: very friendly, attentive and helpful. Atmosphere: Lovely feel to the place, lots of pictures on the walls, 2 toilets upstairs, and then the man started singing, which was great for that party vibe, even got a couple of songs in myself which was great. Overall, a great night and a 5 star experience, well deserved.

Absolutely the best place to go. The owner and family so down to earth and nothing is too much trouble. 100% guaranteed to have a fantastic time there. Cant wait to go back again

If you’re looking for an authentic, traditional and tasty Greek restaurant- Avoid! The food was basically bland, we ordered Chicken Souvlaki and Greek salad, souvlaki was extremely dry and unseasoned, very far from what we tried during our holidays in Greece, and the salad? Pure profanation of Greek cuisine! Two small olives, some red onion and tomatoes, little piece of feta cheese and mix of leaf salad (which made up most of the salad served in a baby size bowl). However, ironically the food is not your biggest problem, it’s poor customer service and lack of manners. I honestly never experienced such a thing in any restaurant! After consuming our food me and my mom headed to the exit while my dad was paying our bill. One of your servers literally yelled at me in front of other guests accusing me of going out without paying! I felt absolutely terrible and embarrassed as everyone in the restaurant looked at us with contempt and the server didn’t even apologise! Rude! The waiting time and cleaning standard leave a lot to be desired, I’d recommend going to Subway or McDonald’s instead, saved your money and nerves.

Absolutely unbelievable food Helen was amazing she could not do enough for us atmosphere was wonderful, and again the food was to die for, me and my partner will be back again I cannot recommend this place enough.

My wife and I had a 50th wedding anniversary dinner here at the Athens. We can honestly say it was a great night the food was great and the staff were excellent with Steve on the Mike singing what a night. Thank you all at the Athens restaurant for a very memorable night.

The best restaurant in Eastbourne! Between us we had starters of halloumi and garlic bread, mains traditional moussaka and kleftico! Amazing food & atmosphere, such good fun x

Went here last year with my partner and 2 of our friends. Great atmosphere and the owner was very friendly. The food was lovely and the owner broke into a karaoke session a couple of times during the evening. He even spent time with every table while their food was being prepared. A lovely evening and a good value place.

To quick in between meals had 2 courses in 45 minutes then out

We had a brilliant night, the food was good and the atmosphere brilliant. We were having a birthday party and the owners made it special, the karaoke went down well, we sang all night. Thoroughly recommend, especially for any celebrations.

My Brother and Sister-in-law brought me to this amazing Greek restaurant. The staff made you feel welcome the minute you through the door. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. When I'm in Eastbourne again I will definitely come here. Can only give 5-stars but would rather give 8-stars. Would recommend anyone coming to Eastbourne to try this.

Went this evening just after six and it wasn't open.. Very disappointed as already picked what I was going to order. Menu looked awesome. Hopefully they will be open next time we are down.

we were lucky enough to come on a night when they were hosting a large 70th birthday celebration. the owners did karaoke, and got everyone in the restaurant involved. we had a wonderful evening, the food was lovely, all of the staff were friendly and accommodating! would definitely recommend!

Came to this lovely Greek restaurant a couple of days ago with the family. First things first, all of the food was excellent. Perfect steaks, delicious authentic moussaka and souvlaki. It also has to be said that the service and hospitality at this place is second to none. Such a genuine and warm couple, a real highlight of our stay in Eastbourne.

Where do I even start? We decided to dine at this place due to our love for Greek food & the good reviews but OMG what a disappointment! The food served was tasteless and a proper disgrace to Greek food. The service was rude, to the point that they didn't really care and never checked if everything was okay! The highlight of the night was discovering that Greek salad is not what we know but a warm cabbage version of it! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Only giving them 1 star for the tzatziki! Don't waste your money here!

Went for a meal on Wednesday 3rd August and back again on Monday 8th August. Fantastic meal both times. Steve, Helen and Zoe are amazing and nothing is ever too much trouble for them. And Mama of course, because she loves it, still working in the kitchen despite being in her 80s! Have been visiting Eastbourne for the past 5 years now and Athens Restaurant is always on our go to list of Restaurants for a meal.

De frites was zeer dik en smaakte meer naar aardappel puree met een krokante korst. Het vlees was nauwelijks gekruid, ik misde de Griekse kruiden, knoflook, etc. De fooi wordt er automatisch bij gerekend, in ons geval 5 pond. De porties waren prima en de bediening was vriendelijk.

Absolutely love Athens. Every time we have been, for what ever reason we have had the most amazing fun time. Nothing is too much trouble for this family run business. You may have to wait a little longer for your food, but who minds waiting when its cooked to order.The food is always very tasty from start to finish. So if you like fresh food served with a smile and lots of fun, don't pass it by when in Eastbourne . We recently went as a family to celebrate my birthday not only did all the adults love it, so did our grandchildren. Thank you Team Athens

We came for lunch today as a group of 10, and had the best time ever for my mums birthday. Helen and Steve made us feel welcome and like we were guests in their home. Food was cooked fresh, and simply delicious. The singing was so much fun! Thankyou for making it so special!

We love our Greek Island holidays. We've also gone back to Cypus for our major marital events, honeymoon, 10th anniversary and 25th anniversary. This restaurant brought back all those great memories. The food is first class and it felt like we'd been invited into Greek Cypriot's home for our meal, it had such a family feel to the place.

Going to this place is like being immersed in a set of Faulty Towers. You are likely to be served someone else's meal and be brought someone else's bill. The service is truly unprofessional. However, this is not the worst thing about Athens restaurant. The food is just to so plain and tasteless that you could do better by just going to a local pub. I have no idea why this place is so popular. We will definitely not be back

Fabulous evening at Athens restaurant! We found ourselves without a reservation for dinner and popped in to Athens to see if they could fit us in. We were warmly welcomed, seated inside and brought menus quickly. The food was absolutely delicious. We shared a couple of starters, the moussaka and Greek salads and indulged in some chips. All really tasty. The night took quite an unexpected turn when the music came on and the singing and dancing started. Great fun! I imagine this place is very lively on a Saturday night! Overall, a perfect evening and would 100% recommend it.

We were looking for a Greek restaurant in Eastbourne. As this seem to be the only one open on Monday evening we headed there. We both ordered the moussaka. It was delicious plate of food, beautifully cooked They serve very hearty portions. We came back the next evening and tried the souvlaki and pork aphelia! Also really good! Very friendly family who run the restaurant; lots of regular locals. Also very reasonably priced!! So highly recommend a visit!!

Awful place. I was shouted at for asking how long my food would be after waiting 45 minutes then a further 10 minutes and called names by the owner and family. Awful food, aggressive staff, I wouldn’t go back if you paid me.

We went here Sunday evening expecting it to be very quiet but there were a fair amount of people in there so there was a nice atmosphere. We were visiting overnight from Surrey and would go to Eastbourne just to eat here again!! The food was absolutely delicious, so high praise to the chef/s! We ate the tastiest stuffed vine leaves and Moussaka this side of Greece! We had 3 courses and everything was equally as delicious. The wine choices were great (we're always pleased when a restaurant has a good New Zealand Marlborough on offer!) Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and even though we were the last couple in the restaurant we were not rushed out and instead our waitress had a good natter with us whilst finishing up our drinks! Fab restaurant, amazing food and lovely staff! we will be back for sure!!

Without a doubt the best restaurant in town !! A family business wit a great hospitality and prices. Anything we tried was perfect. I would highly recommend. The kleftiko was unbelievable , something you wouldn't want to miss.

Very good family run greek restraint.

Lovely food, great service, friendly staff. Proper Greek coffee, good olives, good haloumi, good everything. My friend and I enjoyed a leisurely lunch with dessert. The homemade lemon cheesecake and baklava were really tasty
