Beancross Hotel Restaurant in Falkirk

After 4 family members completed a charity run we headed to Beancross for lunch. We phoned ahead and booked for 13. 10 adults and 3 children.When we arrived we were impressed by the restaurant. We waited a while to be shown to our table while staff were chatting. Once seated we waited a while to be brought menus that were grubby and had seen better days. It took ages to come and take our drinks orders and even longer to bring them. Glasses were dirty and we requested they were changed. We then waited another 15 mins before our food order was taken. I ordered a sandwich and requested brown bread. I was told they only had white but our waiter would ask the chef. Another long wait until the food arrived. Some of our party had also ordered sandwiches and were served brown bread while I'd requested brown and was given white. When I queried the response was "you can swap'. Not easy when others had started eating. The white bread was stale. The inside of the sandwich, tuna and cucumber hadn't been buttered and the little tuna on it was in the middle leaving nothing around the edge of the sandwich. There were also a few wrong orders which had to be sent back. No one enquired while we were eating if the food was ok. No one came over when we'd finished eating to clear the table and ask if we wanted desserts or more drinks. We even had to chase the bill. The service was awful. A young team of waiting staff who were more interested in chatting than serving customers. The restaurant wasn't very busy so that probably says a lot about the place. We spoke to a waiter when leaving and told him how disappointed we were. He said he'd pass this on. Beancross you need to up your game. Training for staff would be a good starting point. My advice avoid at all costs.

We had an excellent Mac and cheese, burger and a steak and ale pie. They were all a generous size. The service was good and with a pleasant smile..

We arrived here on 28th July.We had pre booked a superior room at the cost of 216 pounds.My sister also booked a standard room costing 150 pounds.First of all our booking had been cancelled so we had to wait while the staff run about trying to get a room for us then when we eventually got into the room it was a big disappointment.We compared our room to my sisters and not forgetting that we paid an extra 66 pounds,there were more facilities in her room.We had no bidet and no phone and although it wasn't a big problem we were still confused what we paid the extra 66 pounds for.There was meant to be a kingsize and a single bed in our room and all we got was 2 single beds.The remote for the TV was broke and the WiFi didn't work the whole time we were there.It was advertised as bed and breakfast but only found out when we went for breakfast that if we wanted a cooked one we had to pay extra so they used false advertising also.The staff weren't very accommodating either and all looked bored like they didn't want to be there.All in all it was a very disappointing stay and definitely not worth the money.

Average pub grub underwhelming. Chose as beside our hotel. The fact that the place is so devoid of customers speaks for itself. I tried to call to make a booking and it went unanswered and no ability to leave a voicemail. Ended up walking over to reserve a table. Woman was friendly but I had to wait over 5 minutes whilst she served a table their mains as she was obviously the only front of house person working. Meal selection large and waiter friendly but place lacked soul and atmosphere and there were cobwebs visible at our table on the windows. Good for a work gathering or large group maybe but not for a couple

Hadn’t been here for several years but will definitely be back soon. Good range of options on the menu (inc vegan), and were delicious. Good value for money and staff were lovely.

I was staying at the nearby Travelodge and popped here for dinner as just at the end of their car park. Quick, friendly greeting. Chose the steak pie and good quality - not quite home made - but good for a pub style restaurant. Decent value and pleasant staff.

Fantastic lunch, food and service was amazing, big thanks to Jamie. We were there for my sons birthday and had a really nice surprise when they didn't charge for his meal because it was his birthday, a lovely thoughtful idea, would highly recommend a visit here, definitely will be returning.

Stayed over 1 night for a work trip , as my usual local hotel was not available. I was initially given a very large room, overlooking the carpark and a car alarm kept going off, which was really loud. They kindly moved me to a different part of the hotel, which was more quiet. So I appreciated this. The room itself was pretty basic, but OK for 1 night. Really warm. Comfy bed. The bathroom was not very clean. Nice bar area although it lacked atmosphere, it was basically empty when I was in there (went for a drink before going out for diner / and a drink about 10pm) . Biggest disappointment was the breakfast....no cooked breakfast option !? I was looking forward to a traditional Scottish breakfast, but only very basic continental options available. I understood why the room rate seemed competitive vs other options. For this reason I probably wouldn't stay there again.

Food was yummy (highly recommend the fish pie, as well as their skinny chips). Service was unhurried. Both kids and adults were happy.

Had lunch here. Menu had limited choice and was overpriced. Food was bland and although plentiful was served on a plate much too small for the size of the portion. Service was pleasant and all staff were friendly and welcoming. The building is good and had a nice atmosphere. The food was the only disappointing aspect of the visit. I will return and hopefully things will improve.

Hotel room was fantastic and clean meal was beautiful and staff were fantastic. Only reason this is not a 5 star review is because there is no option of a cooked breakfast The staff are a credit to the hotel

Food has really gone downhill since being taken over. The quality was below average. One of the adult meals was smaller than the kids meal. Used to be a regular but won't be back. Only good thing was the serving staff.

4 of us popped in for a quick lunch without reservation. I feel first impression is always the most important and at the door we were greeted with a genuine smile by a young waitress who efficiently served us throughout our stay. It did not seem busy at the time, therefore our food arrived promptly with portions turning out to be bigger than expected so that was really a plus for us. We felt well looked after as waiters would regularly come check on us without being too insistent. The overall quality of food seemed decent, we had fish and chips, couple of steak sandwiches and a salad and all of the items were well enjoyed by all of us. Price was about right too, not too expensive. Would highly recommend!

Remember the good old Beancross? We do, we got married there and had our wedding reception there in 2016. We used to return regularly. Now with new owners, it’s not the place it used to be. Over priced, underwhelming menu and staff who openly (with customers within earshot) discuss over work and long hours at the restaurant. You would be much better off going to The Claremont

This was our third attempt to eat in the Falkirk area today. We were so pleased to be able to park and met by friendly staff. The drinks arrived promptly and the food order also arrived in a short time. The portion sizes and the food were very good. We will definitely be back.

We were travailing home after a long day with two kids . We stumbled on this place by chance, called from the car park and they fitted us in . Felt really safe with staff all wearing face covering and sanitiser stations even one way system for the bathrooms . The food was really tasty fast and friendly service . We went for our wedding meal it was second to none cant fault it the only problem my husband paid extra for the steak n it was as tuff as old boots other than that all courses were cooked to perfectiion. A very tasty cajun chicken at the Beancross, the wifes steak pie was good also. Service was pretty good. Seated pretty quickly, and food came not too long after we ordered. Piping hot and tasty. Would I come here again? Yes! Just a shame I didn't have enough time for pudding.

Booked here for Christmas dinner. Menu wasn’t great for choice. Soup was cold for whole table. Main course steak Diane cake in a sweet tomato sauce? Every other Diane steak has been a white creamy sauce. Turkey was packet meat with gravy. Meal over all was not what we expected and definitely not worth the money. We paid £300 for our dinner for a family of 4 and one child. (5 heads in total). Staff weren’t helpful. Meals didn’t come out as a family. was always split. Half the table eating their main then other half not eating their main for another 20 minutes. Staff didn’t know any better when asking for the other half of the tables courses the staff thought the table had already ate? Just a shambles and not the Christmas dinner you expect. Has really gone down hill. Won’t be back.

We decided to stop off at the Beancross on the way to take my daughter back to Edinburgh. I had booked a table just in case the restaurant was going to be busy, but as this was for 5pm we needn’t have bothered.

Staying at the nearby Travelodge, we were recommended to try the Beancross. It’s a nicely laid out restaurant, plenty space between tables. Staff very friendly and welcoming, but the meal was awful. I had ordered Steak Pie, with potatoes and vegetables. The pastry on the pie seemed as if it had been overheated in a microwave, although the waitress said it hadn’t (left it). The potatoes had not been cleaned. The plates were cold, altogether very disappointed in this restaurant. Certainly won’t be back.

Having checked in at the nearby Travelodge we looked for a venue. Unfortunately the restaurant although very quite, did not allow even small dogs (unless an assistance dog) which was a disappointment as the Travelodge does accept dogs. They do however provide a takeaway service and we had Fish and Chips. This offer was welcome as we were hungry. It would have been nice for some tables to be set aside for people with dogs, perhaps something that could be considered.

We visited this hotel as part of a group for a dog of the year event in the function room.After we checked in we were shown to our room which was clean ,spacious with a large comfy bed and modern bathroom with a large shower and plenty clean white towels .

We visited this delightful restautant and was more than pleasantly suprised by , the choice of food, the quality of it, the service and the value. For my sweet I had their lemon and berry cheesecake ( sublime ) and my husbands main course of Chicken and bacon saled was the best he has had before. We then ate breakfast there where we chose the full Scottish breakfast. I had haggis for the first time as this was included. All in all....it was lovely

Had a wonderful family dinner here recently while visiting Scotland. Menu was great. Had Steak pie for the first time and it was delicious! Staff were very attentive and made sure everyone had what they needed.

This really is a lovely hotel, the rooms are very comfortable and I loved the fact that the windows can be fully opened. A nice comfy bed and the bathroom was very nice.

Since my first review a couple of years ago I have returned on several occasions. Food is always excellent, fresh, hot and homemade. Staff are great and attentive. Very quickly seated and orders taken and food was always quick being served. Definitely worth a trip! The price has increased slightly but £15 for three courses of home made food cannot be complained about.

It is hard to say anything about this hotel in black or white but the whole experience was grey.

We took extended family here for a birthday meal. Service - average Food - awful (esp. salmon) Lipstick covered glasses - no-no Fairly cheap, you get what you pay for. Will never return here.

We have stayed at this hotel for two days and liked it very much. The rooms are renovated, very clean, with white-snow towels and bed linen, comfortable beds, new shower, restaurant on the ground floor. There is all you need for comfortable overnight. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We recently had a holiday at a Travel Lodge near Falkirk and as the Beancross Polmont was within walking distance we decided to have an evening meal there. It was a great experience from the very start. Although the place was busy we were ushered to a comfortable table. The place is very quant with traditional farmhouse walls and pictures. The main thing was the service and food was first class and we were allowed to eat at our own place. I would strongly recommend this place if you find yourself in this area !

I have been to the Beancross many times, and they food has always been 'alright' - I would say good for the money if you want some that's a heat up job and quick, but on this occasion it was absolutely awful. Both myself & y partner had the Pate - OMG it was awful, absolutely disgusting. It smelt terrible and it tasted just as bad!, I wouldn't have fed it to my cat !! I didn't eat mines, and no-one questioned what was wrong with it.

Okay the menu is pretty limited but this place is all about value for money. The all day 2 courses dor £12 or 3 for £14 represents great value for money. The menu is mix of classics including steak pie and fish and chips with desserts being this places homemade cheese cake od the day, selection of ice cream etc. With various areas ans menu to satisfy all diets this place is always going to be busy so book ahead to avoid disappointment

We booked for a Friday evening meal and everything was better than we expected, the service was quick and efficient, for £12 I did not expect much, I had Pate then scampi, both were very good, as was the wine at £16 a bottle, there was not a down side and we will go again

Advertised as two courses for £12 did not expect too much but very pleasantly surprised at the choice, quality, service and quantity of food. All great. Staff especially friendly. Food excellent, good well cooked menu.

The room was updated and renovated upto a new standard. The new shower - a dream. The bed comfortable - the size of the room was really decent. We would definitely stay again!

I took two close friends here for lunch; their first visit to the area. The restaurant still LOOKS great, very attractive and well laid out for every different type of dining need, including a great area for people with small children. However, despite being sat in the bright, spacious conservatory area, we didn't enjoy our visit. It took a long time for anyone to take our order, and the food took an age to arrive even though it wasn't that busy. The food served was a real disappointment; not exactly inedible but bland, poorly presented and badly cooked. The burger was dry and tasteless, the gammon steak was served with potatoes despite being requested with veg only, and the cheese sauce in the pasta was non existent. The only saving grace was the dessert, which we suspected was bought in rather than cooked on the premises. I am married to a chef and I know that he would not have allowed such a low standard of food to leave his kitchen; it's disappointing that what used to be a great place have allowed their standards to drop to such an extent that I was actually embarrassed at having convinced my two friends to visit there for the first time. Needless to say it will be the last time all three of us will be there.

The staff were quick and efficient in spite of it being busy. What let it down for us was the food - must stress here we are vegetarians. Pasta piled high with a bland tomato sauce is not very creative . Sweets weren't bad though.

Was staying in the nearby Travelodge and this was a short walk away. Away with work , we hadn’t booked but was shown straight to a table . Couldn’t fault the 3 courses for £14 ( or 2 for £12 ) all tasty and all presented well, particularly the desserts . Service was friendly and quick , just what was needed after a long day travelling . Popped back for breakfast the next morning and again good and quick service .

We were at a family wedding this weekend. The food and wine was very good and the staff were amazing. Very friendly and helpful. We stayed overnight and we had a very large comfortable room with huge shower.

This was a birthday meal for my son. There was 20 of us there with 2 of them being very young children. When we arrived we were told our table wasn't ready yet. When we got shown to the table they still didn't have the high chairs there. Everyone was paying for their own meals but it took 20 minutes before a waitress told us it would be easier if we went to the bar ourselves. My father in law got 2 non alcoholic cocktails but was charged for alcoholic ones. They did refund when he asked them about it. They brought the kids meal out with the starters but they forgot to bring out the juice with the kids meal. We had to ask 6 times for it. It eventually arrived when our little one was finished her main course but only because my father in law went to the bar and asked for it. My husband said the burger was tasteless. I had the macaroni which was nice enough. My father in law had the fish and I take it wasn't nice because he left most of it. After asking a couple of times if they would bring my sons cake through they did which was nice with all the staff singing to him. Again we had to ask a few times for the kids icecream and again it took someone going to the bar to get it. Everyone gave my sons girlfriend the money for their own meals however the bill was wrong and she was short of £9. As we had arrived for 6.30 and it was now nearly 9pm and her baby was exhausted she just paid it. Overall some of the food was nice some not so nice. There was more ice than anything else in the mocktail I had. However for a 2 course meal it took over 2 hours which is a long time.

My friend and I enjoyed the excellent value 3 courses for £14 menu and we would fully recommend it.We plumped for the warming tasty lentil soup with a roll and butter.Then the steak pie,chips with two veg was delicious.The pudding was a gorgeous apple and pear crumble with Custard.I was fascinated to learn St Mungo's High School former pupils of the 1970s hold reunions there as that was my era,We added lattes and draught cola to wash down the meal.The staff were pleasant,attentive but unobtrusive.The restaurant was warm and comfortable with clean toilets.There is adequate parking.

There were four people in our party celebrating my birthday. When I booked we were told we would be in the conservatory but on arrival were put in the Bistro round the corner against at a wall and it was very bright. The food was nice but the service was lacking. Alcholic drink served instead of alcholol free and this wasnt picked up till after we wend to order another. My brotherinlaw was driving and was not a happy person as he doesnt live locally. Although full of apologies and drink not charged,not enough attention paid.

We called to check availability as staying at a hotel nearby, we were shown to a table in the conservatory area as soon as we arrived (5 minutes after we called). Food arrived within minutes of ordering even though the place was really busy we didn't wait long between courses. The food was beautiful, we honestly couldn't fault anything. The following morning we thought we would check breakfast options. Breakfast finished a few minutes before we arrived but the chefs were more than happy to make a breakfast for us and once again we were made to feel so welcome just like the night before.

I’ve not been for over 5 years, either for business or pleasure, as we stopped coming due to the very average / bland food.

We travelled here as a party of five and although the restaurant was quite busy the food was here in no time. The haggis fritter which was macsweens haggis breaded and coated in peppercorn was excellent and for mains the steak pie was excellent but however the sticky toffee pudding let it down felt like it was straight out a freezer but won’t put me off.

Came here a few times while I was down near falkirk for work with my colleagues. The staff were all excellent, especially the table staff who were all incredibly nice. Always left completely full and for a decent price too. Highly recommend

Met with an old friend for lunch and a catch up, this is a nice chilled out place that serves great food, I had the homemade steak pie and it was the best I’ve had in a while, my friend had macaroni cheese which looked delicious too! The staff who interacted with our table were down to earth and friendly, this was my first visit to Beancross, but won’t be my last when I’m in the area.

We love the food here. We were served by a lovely young lady with great customer service named Jamie. The only thing that let's this place down is the bar manager he is not people friendly I would prefer never to deal with him again

Two courses for £12, 3 for £14. Food was in generous portions and surprisingly good quality, well prepared. Easy to get gluten-free alternatives. Good selection of non-alcoholic drinks and "mocktails" as well as alcoholic ones. With starter and main course, we had no room to try the desserts.

The restaurant has a 2 courses for £12 or 3 for £14 offer. We had a nice 3 course meal. The reason for the 4 stars is that I had fish and chips and the fish wasn't up to the standards I'm used to but it wasn't bad either. The broccoli and stilton soup was delicious. Everybody enjoyed it!

We visited there yesterday for a family lunch as it was a relative's birthday. Whilst the food tasted ok at the time, 3 out the 5 of us have been extremely poorly from about an hour after the meal, into today. We are still not right. I say 3 out of 5 because I haven't spoken to one of the party since, and one was a 7 month old baby. This is on top of a fairly disappointing previous visit, but we decided to give it another try. The service was fine and friendly. The food not of a quality to be charged money for. We won't be back.
