Beach Café in West Dorset

Great cheeseburger well cooked. Thanks Forgot to say, fantastic crispy chips too! All freshly cooked, wonderful!

Ordered coffee and a bacon roll Was told £18.70!! I said, no that cannot be right! After saying £13.00 I said no, try again and eventually got it right £8.70. Anyway, drink was tiny!! And unfortunately my hubby was poorly after eating the roll and drink Staff very sad looking Such a shame because it was so busy

Don't get food from here ended up with awful tummy upset

Came to the beach for the day, stopped here to get chips. Really surprised to be served some of the best chips I've had in a very long while. Hot and crispy 😋 delicious. Thank you

Quite a depressing little place, staff barely raise effort to help and the food is super expensive, £7 for a plain jacket potato. Cakes are all stale and wrapped in plastic. Avoid . Tale your own

Avoid! It’s rare to find cafe this poor these days. It’s overpriced (£7 for a baked potato, £3 for a very poor coffee). Scrawled signs point out a strange queuing and collection arrangement that may help the staff but not the customers. While we were there a delivery lorry parked next to the seating area with its engine running for 15 minutes. This is a great location - the only cafe on the beach - but a huge missed opportunity.

It's the only Cafe on Charmouth Beach so it can charge what it likes. 🔺️ But for heavens sake a smile, a hello, a thank you, or just the staff even pretending they are happy to work there could be at least included in that price.

The food we bought was really good. Over priced, but I guess with rising prices the cafe has overheads to consider. I was going to have a cup of tea, then I read the menu stating no tea bag in cup and milk already added..... no thanks. The assistant who took our order, she needs to learn good customer service. The atmosphere in there wasn't so good but at least they get points for good food. One real down side, maybe add 2 eggs to an egg barm!

Over priced poor quality food and drinks served up by indifferent staff and my advice to anyone visiting Charmouth Beach would be to take your own sandwich and flask thus avoiding disappointment.

I found the coffee very overpriced for the volume. The only food available was overpriced pre wrapped cakes and the seating area was closed. Not very welcoming on a fairly chilly day. I have no idea why there was no hot food -there were certainly enough customers trying to come in from the cold! Overall very inhospitable and I would not recommend them.

We stopped here for a coffee as there wasn't anywhere else near by. The coffee was disgusting, so much so we didn't drink them, we also had a portion of chips, which had a taste of curry! Summery: Very over pried, the property wasn't welcoming, actually a complete mess, our food/drinks were a waste of money. I suggest anyone else should be bothered to walk into the village, although its quite a walk for a coffee and a snack!

Stopped here after a walk on the beach. Had bacon and sausage baps. Great quality, nicely cooked and very friendly staff. A few reviews make comment of price. It's worth noting this is a cafe right on the beach front in a tourist hotspot. So will be more expensive than your usual cafe, but it's still worth it for what you get. Very pleased.

£8 for two portions of raw undercooked chips...Just out to make money from day trippers...They forget that some customers are local...Looking at the reviews, the owners should hang their heads in shame....AVOID !!

Had to wait outside in the rain for a very small, overly strong, tiny cup of latte for £3. Take a flask!

Had a look in this place, wanted a ice cream chips and coke, but chips were £4, half a litre of coke £2.20 and a small ice cream £3, so had to go without

Somewhat edible food if you're hungry enough. The (black) coffee was better than some of the other places I've tried in the area.

Purchased a fried egg roll and chips and burger and chips ,egg was not cooked properly also burger was under cooked inside very disappointing considering the cost would not use again

We stopped at this cafe on our holiday in Charmouth a few days ago,I ordered 2 beef burgers and chips and one drink which came to £19.50!! the burgers were still pink inside not cooked properly,and the outside was burnt, the chips were hard and not cooked ,and tasted awful, the condiments, sauces were right in the sun and were very hot, so in my 40 years working in hospitality, I was very shocked to see salad cream and mayonnaise getting hot in the sun this is awful and could affect your digestion, We went back to our caravan to eat the chips.and decided not to go back to complain. The staff looked like a group of very unhappy dinner lady’s . I advise people staying here and visiting the beach to avoid this cafe.

Not a huge choice of food but given the location lovely little place!

Compared to previous reviews, we enjoyed our visit. I didn't think it was expensive, especially considering the location. Sadly, the coffee machine was not working but they had loads of cake! That does help. Also, they had these made up sandwiches (I believe thats what they were). Sadly, we never got to try one but next time I'm down I'll visit for one. Top tip, get the chocolate brownie 😋 shockingly chocolatey

How nice it was to be able to pop into the Beach Cafe on our visit to Charmouth today. Due to Covid it was my first visit since Sept 2019 with my profoundly autistic daughters who is now in her 30's. As things had changed quite a lot to comply with rules for everyone's safety my daughter became quite confused, but the staff were so kind and patient with her, and helped redirect her to where we were allowed to sit etc. It was really nice to see Sally again too and have a quick chat. Thank you very much and hope to see you all again very soon.

The staff are miserable and created this absolutely depressing atmosphere in here. We waited in line for 15 mins for an ice cream. They were going at a snails pace. When we finally got in did I realise how awful of a vibe it was in here. I wanted nothing but to get out of there as soon as possible. They were giving a deaths glare and just sheepishly served. I get everyone has bad days but judging by the reviews of others this is not a once off occurrence. The staff need to be replaced or be given a pay rise. Anything to get this to feel like less of a morgue and more of a Cafe. On another note. The ice cream and items here were atrociously expensive. I know in a beach touristy zone it is like that. But this was far more expensive than is acceptable. Summary, would not and will not come back here again if I am ever in the area. And I would recommend others do not either

I expected it to be more expensive than other places we could go but come on, daylight robbery. £1.80 for a can of fizzy drink? I paid £13.50 for can of pop, kids juice, soggy sandwich, vegan slice and a soggy oat cake. I usually take a picnic but went to this beach last minute. I recommend going to the beach hut cafe further down if you have to buy on the beach.

They small beach hut portacabin on its own served superb Fish n Chips.Polite ,helpful,courteous .tasty .Lovely visit . TA

Look I know it gets busy and customers can be sometimes irritating but it doesn't cost anything just to be civil or even smille + the tea was weak.

Very poor customer service, I very politely asked a couple of questions and a very rude lady was very curt and short with me! You maybe having a bad day, but good customer service doesn't cost anything, and by the looks of the other reviews the same lady has been spreading the love around!

Good reason too... - AVOID TEMPTATION - 09:02 - All doors open, staff visible and setting up the chairs and sauce pots etc. I observed the 'Closed' sign on the door, but thought to ask when they were opening (as there was no display of operating hours). I poked my head in the entrance and said "excuse me, what time are you opening today?" ... as one of the ladies looked at her watch, the elderly "fossil-like gentleman" that wasnt 'gentle' muttered under his breath, "when we're ready". Unfortunately for him, I heard him clearly. I went on to state to him that it was unnecessary for him to say such a comment and I was not accepting his sarcasm (especially when the world seemed so wonderfully perfect I.E. coastal perfection, beautiful sunny day and a calm atmosphere) - all I wanted was a nice breakfast and drink! Afterwards, I decided to leave and not give the cafe any of my custom. So disappointing and extremely dissatisfied with the lack of care at the ease of inviting people to their wonderful location. I asked a very simple and understandable question, this surely only requires a simple response. For all I knew, they may have been preparing to open at lunchtime!? I am pretty sure the man in question worked in the fossil shop attached directly next to the cafe. My advice to this chap and more for the cafe staff is to keep him locked up in the cabinet with the other fossils! Maybe that way, nobody will detract away from an idealistic setup for many within the catering world. Perhaps its his toxicity that is disheartening the cafe staff! - hence the other reviews that read about miserable staff etc.

Miserable and impolite staff serving small cups of bad, expensive coffee and cakes. Teeming rubbish bins outside full of recyclable material on the seafront (told there's no recycling bins when I enquired).

Very well organised and the sandwiches were really well filled.

Really disappointing so close to the sea that this cafe has made zero effort to reduce waste. Especially as the museum next door goes into great detail about the problem with plastic, it's heartbreaking to then be met with so much plastic packaging and plastic knives and forks. Food was pretty boring and no alternative milks either.

The beach café is closed as it is every year at this time, it won't open until March 2019 now.

I am so glad we did not look at the reviews before we visited. We ordered four meals which needed cooking to order. It was prepared quickly and was very good quality. Salad was in abundance and food was hot (not the salad!). We had outside seating as we had our dog with us but tables were cleared and our experience was very positive. We would recommend the Charmouth Beach Cafe for lunch before you go fossil hunting......and we did find some 😊

Poor....Miserable staff. Breakfast wasn't great although sausages were nice. She made a hack job of cutting a loaf and served up a very uneven piece of toast to me. Black pudding was on the list of items for breakfast ..we didn't get it. Also if there is one thing I hate while eating is the smell of cleaning fluids...had a young lad spraying the table next to us...could taste it as we were eating. Should read up and get trained on health and safety in a food place. We now know never to eat here again and wished we'd read these review's first!!

Unhelpful staff. Couldn't even get tap water

Feels a bit run down and grumpy staff doesn't help the atmosphere. Found out they'd stopped serving food despite it being the middle of the afternoon on a busy-ish day. Does not accept card payments. Avoid.
