One person ordered a total of two dishes in the canteen, and the appearance was extremely miserable. The important thing was to eat a piece of foam in the bullfrog. The smell of sweet and sour pork ribs is extremely serious. Such a sweet and greasy paste is not enough to cover up, and I have never drunk such a bad frozen lime tea. The service attitude is even worse. The dishes at the next table that I ordered later were all served, but I was still in a daze at the empty table. After repeated urging, I reluctantly served the dishes. Merchants should feel lucky because Google map can only give a minimum rating of 1 star, otherwise I will give a negative rating of 0 stars. Extremely not recommended!!!

I visited midweek and left after eating very disappointed. I assumed that because the restaurant was full I would be in food heaven! I found the food bland, the service poor and the whole ambience of the place just not for me. I would certainly not return.

The food is ok and quite big portion, but is it on the spicy side. Good for people like spicy food. Quite disappointed with the bbq as it’s more like deep fried than really bbq.

This restaurant has changed names but think it's still managed by the same people. We have had both the hot pot and also stir fried dishes. It's a mainland Chinese restaurant as opposed to Cantonese so the food is alot more authentic. The cooked dishes tend to be spicy and hearty & the hot pot is good value - £20 per pax which includes skewered meats. Been a few times and never had any complaints. At the most recent visit we had some melon & pork ribs soup, claypot beef brisket, Chairman Mao's pork belly (which was quite different to what we were expecting), stir fried noodles & one of our fave dishes - century egg & tofu. Food was hearty and tasty. The restaurant is usually very busy with Chinese customers which is another indication of its quality. I love this no frills place with good food and will definitely return again.

If I could rate it zero I would. Possibly one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. Food tasted of nothing. Bill came to £50 - we athe nothing except a handful of pork dim sum. They didn’t even ask if everything was ok with our food as they knew it was vile. I’d rather eat 3 day old MacDonald’s 👍🏼

Not a good meal at all. A very disappointing meal. Went with my husband and parents. We decided to have the banquet which was £24.50 each. WHAT A MASIVE MISTAKE. IN my opinion AVOID at all levels. Also go under different names when I asked for a card the waitress gave me a card for another restaurant. See attached card.

The fact that everyone eating in this restaurant, with the exception of the four of us,was Chinese, tells a story in itself. This place specialises in authentic Chinese food. Intestine, heart, Bull frog, to name but a few of the dishes to be had. I had the pork intestine stew and absolutely loved it. There is an English menu to choose from, but that seemed wrong in this place. As I said in the title, not for the faint hearted, but well worth a try

I have been to the place a couple of times. I had dinner there and I always went for hotpot. I have always been a hotpot fan when I was in Hong Kong and the hotpot food here is close to home, yet the service drags the overall experience down. The hotpot soup is highly recommended. If you accept lamb flavor, order the lamb spine soup base - my favorite. The food range was acceptable, however the quantity for certain things, e.g. fish balls/meat balls was too small. In the busy hours (night time), some food order was missing. One of the highlights would be the BBQ meat. We could pick the maximum of 3 items on the menu. The serving time could be a bit longer sometimes. The negative part of the experience was the service, especially during busy hours (night time). One waitress was impolite and used 'ordering' tone to tell us to leave as they were closing. The next time when I had lunch there, the situation was much better. Some other waiters/waitresses were polite and friendly yet the quality of service was in average dis-satisfactory.

My friends went on a trip to Chinatown for a good Chinese meal . We were so regret choosing this place for dinner. The waitress at the bar was very rude and speak no English at all .When we told her that one of our friends were allergic to cumin, she didn't understand us at all and paid no attention to this issue even after some customer helped us interpret and explain this to her. The beef skewers we ordered were filled with cumin and they refused to give us a refund .The Dishes we ordered were either too salty ,or too bland. Customers were asked to go to the bar to pay for the bill, no matter you paying cash or by card. Will never come here again .

My wife & I went here end if Jan 17. We waited in the queue for a table. The woman on the desk ignored us and went to the 3 Chinese people waiting behind us. After that we were escorted to a table and just ignored. 15 minutes later nobody had even acknowledged us. So... we got up and walked out! I'm not sure they even noticed. I wouldn't mind betting they think we're still sat there now.

Alright. I know full well that people in the restaurant business work hard, and EVERY business needs a good review, right? Sorry...not this time. Went with my mum to this establishment. It was actually busy, yes. But I don't know if it was our waitress who was just having a bad night or what. My mums order came, no problem. Mine was forgotten!! My mum had finished what she had ate, but where was mine!? The waitress apologised and my meal eventually came. Language barrier, or just a bad day? Who knows. I am not going back. Ever.

We came here for an early dinner and although the place was fairly quiet there were Chinese eating here which is usually a good sign. Although my husband is Australian Chinese and we've come across some unusual menu items we were quite surprised by the menu here. The dishes seemed to be mainly from the Szechuan area where food is quite spicy. Although there was a huge choice we were confused about what to order. A friendly young waitress came to our rescue and suggested a hot pot which we ordered after she assured us that it didn't contain any of the more unusual menu items. She also recommended spicy stir fried beans with pork mince, a dish I often cook at home. The hot pot contained a variety of ingredients that were familiar to us and although the spicy seasoning was different to anything we'd tried before we enjoyed it, it was very tasty. The bean and pork dish was also tasty though the pork was a little too crispy. The place seems to be popular with Chinese students as the servings are huge and the prices very reasonable.

If you are Chinese, you'll love the hot pot here for their various choices of base soup and nice cooker which can heat the pot quick enough. BBQ which included in the hotpot buffet are basically very typical Chinese street food. The environment of restaurant is so so, staffs could be impatient sometimes. But I would go there again for the hotpot.

... or as Scottie would have probably said - "it's food, Jim but not as we know it".So, it was Chinese New Year and we fancied crispy shredded duck and pancakes. This has to be one of the most simple meals to find in a Chinese restaurant. It was a busy night so we went to the place without a queue figuring that no Chinese chef can get duck wrong. We were a group of four and were seated fast. Drinks (three beers and a bottle of wine) were served fast enough and the waiting staff were affable enough. We chose the £15.50 a head banquet which came with soup, starters, crispy duck and a selection of main dishes. Every single dish was inedible (and I will usually eat anything). The soup was a grey gloopy affair with a taste that none of us could quite put our finger on. It had various bits of unidentifiable meat in it and a strange peppery taste. It looked like thickened washing up water after you've washed the pots from Sunday lunch in it.The starters were overcooked and rubbery prawn toasts and spring rolls. The duck was shredded out of our sight and not, as is usual, at the table. It may have once been a duck but was tasteless and rubbery. The plum sauce was brown but not sweet like it should be and for the first time ever, we didn't finish it up. The mains were another odd selection that looked OK but tasted rank. The meat in the sweet and sour looked like it had died of old age a few weeks before and had been deep fried, stored in a fridge and then covered in orange sauce. The king prawns and peanuts had no fish taste at all and I was by now worried that if I ate them, I would make their acquaintance again later in the evening so I left them. The fried rice was pedestrian. The only dish that was anything like what I have previously eaten at any Chinese was the beef in oyster sauce. It truly was the worst meal I have eaten out at a restaurant of any description in many a long year. It's hard to understand how they could have been so bad.The cost? A breathtaking £90.00. I left feeling like I had stepped into another dimension.

We only ended up here as Chinatown was very busy and this restaurant had a few empty tables. Our waitress was a little confused over the set menu's but very pleasant. We were served with a soup which contained a greyish meat and tasted very bland, there was an intense peppery taste to this which was the only flavour present. Our crispy duck was presented on a cold plate, a cold draft was constant where we were seated and even the hoisin sauce tasted odd. The king prawn dish tasted odd, the rice was unremarkable, lemon chicken had an intense artificial flavour, beef and ginger was ok but the large lumps of raw ginger were unpleasant, nearly forgot, the dim sum was a joke! Inedible prawn toast that was like cardboard with sesame seeds stuck onto it it and the rest just nondescript awfulness and that is being polite! We then paid £86 for four Including drinks wishing we had left earlier....truly awful.

Lots of chinese people in all eating stuff I don't understand and am far too cowardly to ask about. For 7 quid two starters and one main course. Hot and sour so very hot, but nice. Bit of chilli stuck in my throat and I nearly died, almost literally. Had pork and egg fried rice. Very tasty pork, and fried rice was beautiful. I wish I could make it like that - if I could I'd never eat anything else. Very good strong but not overwhelming chinese tea. Only one thing. Had fried fish skwer, but though tasty, it was very small, so a big disappointing. Still very pleasant experience overall, although the restaurant is draughty and cold.

When I asked them they said "we've ran out" The table cloth had food stains everywhereThe toilet was dirty and the tap had mildew growing all around it.The food when it arrived, was very nice though. Silver lining? The price of course was even better. Service and cleanliness wasn't very good though.

I have visited this restaurant 3-4 times over the past couple of years and had no issues with the food or service, hence my return on 15th Dec 14 with colleagues. After we had ordered food we noticed that it was a bit chilly and when we asked them to turn the heating up we were told it wasn't working - mid December! Staff really struggled with English but probably wasn't helped because we were Scots but we got there eventually. Food was at best less than average! Everything was "gloopy" from the soup to the curry (although they no longer serve curry - it's a Chinese! ) so she got the chef to try and make one. Not the best. We ordered Tiger Beer but were told "no serve Tiger Beer". This despite the bar having big Tiger Beer signs everywhere. Not a great night I'm afraid for many reasons and a bit embarrassing as I had raved about it to my colleagues. No point trying to take it further with them as their understanding of the English language suddenly became less and less. Wouldn't recommend for food or comfort. I would say it's good value for money at £11.90 per head for starters, crispy aromatic duck and a main course - but only if everything's right but sadly it wasn't. Rather dire in fact so we won't be going back there again

Came here with 3 others hoping to try a new restaurant as the popular Happy Seasons Chinese Restaurant was packed out for the evening. We were taken to a table and given menus, this was the last time we saw the waiter. When it came to ordering, we tried many times to grab their attention, we kept our arms high and waving and even though eye contact was made with several different waiters, nobody came to our table. After too many failed attempts we got up and left. I doubt the food would have been missed anyway. THIS RESTAURANT CLEARLY DOESN'T WANT BUSINESS!! We went to this restaurant because my husband wanted to see if Jay Rayner was right in his review of it. I can honestly say it is not!!! We ordered our choices and our tea but that took forever to arrive, it only came when we were being told that there were 2 items unavailable. The food came and it wasn't vey good, only the pigs intestines were good as for the rabbit, it was just deep fried with some cumin sprinkled on it!! We were so looking forward to this meal but it was a total let down. THEN we had the same experience as other diners.... not taking cards, only pay in cash. I pointed out to them that they should have advised us of this when we came in, so a card is all we can pay with. They reluctantly brought the terminal out for us to use then! On a side issue, the ladies lavatory could do with a deep clean too, no loo roll at all. Will not be returning there, far better places to dine in in Chinatown.

We visited one Friday night when a lot of other restaurants in Manchester would likely be very busy. It should therefore have been a sign of things to come that this place was almost empty. The menu was varied and the dishes seemed reasonably well priced. However, when you asked the staff for recommendations, explanations of the ingredients etc they were useless. The most amusing was when we asked for soy sauce and the waiter had no idea what we were talking about. When they brought the food out, only about 2 of the 5 dishes on the table looked appetizing. My dish turned out to be rather bland and disappointing, however my partner's was perhaps the worst. He had been recommended what I can only assume was Spam fried rice. It had no flavour whatsoever and when he asked the waiter what was in it, the response was simply "meat."Overall, I felt it was a waste of money and that there were much better restaurants nearby that I could have gone to instead.

After a day of looking around Manchester with a few pit stops for drinks here and there a small group of us decided to stop by Chinatown for a bite to eat. We took pot luck and just called into BBQ Noodles King. The restaurant looked busy but by no means full and we were seated right away. After being ignored for about 15 minutes we made eye contact with a member of staff in the hope of ordering some food & drinks. We were told that three of our choices were sold out, but we managed to cobble together some other options and all looked ok.After about 10 minutes we had to ask about our drinks again.... They were then taken to the wrong table... People behind us then had to complain about a wrong drinks order... Our drinks turned up, one by one over the course of about 5 minutes. We should have left at this point really, but it was slightly comical so we stayed put.Our food turned up, during this time two other parties had given up and walked out, we stayed, fully committed at this point. I say the food turned up. I don't mean all of it together! Some starters, some mains, but after say 10 minutes we were all tucking in. The food was ok, nothing too bad, but really nothing great at all. Some more people complained a bit.I asked for the bill and this is where It started to get a bit stupid. It was correct, but when I went to pay I was told that I can't pay by card as the machine is broken. Fair enough, but tell me that before I want to pay by card.Overall, it looks very poorly managed with very little communication between waiters/bar/kitchen. I had Beef Noodles from this place and it was the best Noodles I had so far. Price is not bad either. The place is always full of Young Chinese students and they all seemed very happy with the food as well. They have a quite big menu to choose from and seeing most of their customers were Chinese, it made sense why most of the menu is in Chinese. They do have English version as well though but limited. Also, their chicken and lamb is halal so it would be suitable to wider audience as well. I would most definitely recommend this place to anybody looking for authentic Chinese food in China Town Manchester. Be kind to the waiters and waitresses as they do speak English but it may not be to your own English standards. As i am sure, you will find speaking Chinese quite difficult :)

We visited this restaurant today at lunch time between Christmas Shopping bouts.Never been before but given the number of places to choose from in this area the Lunch Time Menu seemed good. Select any two starters from a choice of dim sum, meats on skewer and soups plus any one main course with boiled rice, egg fried rice or noodles. £6.95 per head.We had chicken on skewer, crispy dim sum with crab, we both had beijing hot and sour soup. Our main courses Chicken, green pepper and black bean sauce, plus king prawn sechuan both with egg fried rice. Two young chinese ladies served and it was apparent their English was very rudimentary, and they struggled with my Mancunian accent, not a problem though. Untill we left every other customer was Chinese, and most had noodles, I wonder what we were missing? When time came to pay, despite lots of visa and mastercard logos, and a card machine they were unable for some reason to accept my card. perhaps if I could have undedstood Chinese I would have known the reason. They were lucky, we had enough cash........wonder if the tax man knows? The entrance to the restaurant is a bit tatty, but so many are similar in Chinatown. Inside it wss cold, but there again they had just opened and it was freezing outside! Perhaps they didn't expect any customers so did not put the heating on early enough. Not necessarily a place to take someone to impress, or to go in the evening, but for a cheap lunch OK, and our food was very good and portions substantial.

Tonight was my second visit after an excellent first trip. Sadly this time the same cannot be said.. Firstly we were seated on a large rectangular table leaving us spread apart. Secondly, the food was exceedingly repulsive; one portion of egg fried rice had a long black hair in it and a portion of duck in plum and plastic sauce had been given to us, resulting in my friend chocking and regurgitating his first mouthful. Additionally, the meat was atrocious and every dish was overcooked and poorly presented. And finally, one member of staff spoke English. He then proceeded to shamelessly offer us one free drink to make up for best part of £100's worth of food left hardly touched. Wont be visiting there again they have barely earned 3 out of 5 hygiene rating!

He described it perfectly; food bursting with flavour & texture but he neglected to say it's exterior says 'Dreadful or wonderful; nothing in between' - it's definitely wonderful. I had kidneys with chilis & leeks, aubergines & chilis dressed with sweet vinegar and rice. Offal is generally outside of my comfort zone but this was delicious - light, rich & crisp with complex flavours. I was the only non-Chinese in the restaurant so it felt like a thoroughly authentic meal. Don't miss it.

I've been here several times and enjoyed the food; good, authentic Szechuan and Hunan cooking and really reasonably priced. Today I went there with 3 other family members at 7pm, not exactly peak time but they'd already run out of 2 or 3 things. Nevertheless we ordered and the food came pretty quickly - well 3 people's food did. I waited 10 minutes for mine to arrive; I know some things take longer to cook so I don't mind some disparity in serving time. But when I asked where it was, the server looked quizzical and showed me a receipt - without the order on it. He went to kitchen and came back, informing me very casually that the dish I ordered had run out. He didn't seem think it was at all unacceptable for me not to have been told this when I ordered it. He just smiled. No apology, nothing taken off the bill. The service wasn't rude, just incompetent. However, it ruined what could have been a really good meal and I won't go back there.

Well this is another day in my life where the wife misled me into thinking I was going to a restaurant I knew was good but instead she decided to try the BBQ Chinese Restaurant in Manchester Faulkner Street. The front of the building appeared to be any other in Manchester china town, and already before entering the restaurant I had to navigate around several broken tiled steps, something I wouldn’t like to encounter these after a few drinks.Anyway, the seating was fairly quick, there were not that many people there, it was 20:00 and prime time for many restaurants in Manchester china town because on street parking is free. The menu was fairly laid out however the dishes and the reason why we came here was for the BBQ and Chinese hot pot, the menu at the back was all Chinese (Simplified) making it near hard to translate. This was made ten folds worse by having a complicated style of ordering because you can only order six at a time and nearly half of the menu was out of stock.OK so ignoring the fact the ingredients for the BBQ and the hot pot was nearly all out we decided to plod ahead because we heard of a couple that this was ‘THE PLACE’ to check out.The service / staff spoke little English, many of them are from mainland china and their primary language is mandarin. This made speaking to them extremely difficult, pointing to items on the menu just confused them. Eventually we ordered and we were then left with drinks, the drinks took longer than the main because we had to explain to them what a jug was and types of the wine and what we wanted. This was something I found hard to grasp as we did show them on the menu what the items were but they did not understand the physical concept of what a jug was, a pint and the word ice. I literally had to go to the bar and show three members of staff what they were.Waiting for the food was fairly painless as the food in theory is extremely easy and fast to cook / or raw and customers cook it themselves. The cutlery was absolutely disgusting, soap stains on the knifes and spoons, asking for additional cutlery such as a spoon with holes in to cook with at the hot pot was near impossible. After standing by and watching them look for what seemed an eternity they found three spoons with holes in to cook the fish. These had cob webs on, dead insects and didn’t go down well when I pointed it out AFTER they said that they were clean. These were in with all the other chop sticks, knives and forks and I was quickly losing confidence. The BBQ food arrived, or what we thought was BBQ food? The chicken was ONLY bone! It was bone on a stick with next to no meat, it was like the meat had been ripped off, the bones soaked in BBQ powder and then it grilled. The sausage however did have meat on, party sausage sized meat but it was all you can eat.The fish looked like road kill that had been over grilled and had no life, texture or appeal. It was road kill flat, no meat, over cooked and dry.Even eating the Chinese hot pot the ingredient was extremely old, frozen, poorly prepared and no one had checked the veg for freshness (yes I did have dark patches and dirt on the lettuce). The service was one of the worse I had seen, staff ignoring you as you held up your hand, they just looked at you and walked past, no one asked how it was. To get service you had to physically stand up and wave or ask others to help. Staff were more concerned chatting, sitting on the couch on their phone or hiding behind the privacy guard to kitchen. From looking at the few people around you could see the disgust on their face at the dishes they had ordered and the poor quality of food and staff. The mood was terrible and not something I wish anyone to ever go through. However one thing did cheer me up, it was june 2013 at 91:00 and they started to play Christmas music for 16 or so minutes. Enough was enough, the food was so salty, the restaurant made drinks were so bland we had to ask for the bill to leave. The bill itself took over 40minutes to pay, they said the card machine always has problems due to lack of signal. The girl waited for the device to get signal and repeatedly hit the machine directly in front of us and later smiled. Her male colleague came around and mentioned it was signal and to try go near the window. So they wondered in a pair over to the window with my card out of sight and later returned 30minutes after and said the machine does not work and that I should pay cash. I said the whole idea of me wanting to pay card was my choice and something I wished to do instead of paying cash. After a further 10 minutes of watching them walk near the window and later walking around as if we had not asked for the bill I decided to just pay cash and go. One thing they did not know how to do was VOID a payment. Please avoid this place at all costs!!!There are plenty of places in china town which offer much better service and food quality. In terms of improving this place they need much better customer service, the food needs massively improving as from the six dishes we ordered along with BBQ and Hot pot all you can eat we saw nothing which would convince us that this food was worth eating.

I went to this restaurant for the first time last week and decided to try their set business lunch (2 starters from a wide choice and a main from an equally wide choice+ rice or noodles. £6.50). I was delighted by the whole experience. The place was full of young Chinese customers (always a good sign); the decor was not over exciting but the service was friendly and very efficient with no pressure to order drinks other than water; the food was delicious and in generous quantities with no sense of reduced amounts for a cheap set meal. I was very pleased and would warmly recommend the place. Extremely good value.

Food and surroundings were tasty and it was a good sign that a lot of local Chinese customers were eating here.I had the chicken - primarily because it was what I recognised - my drinking partner went for the special. The problem with this restaurant is the blatant way the menu reads - if it moves, it's barbecued - ovaries, kidneys, heart, rabbit hind leg - all of it named in full on the menu. So once we tucked into the special we had the thought of "what are we eating" - a bit off putting. It tasted great - but the thought was not good...

As with most Chinese restaurants, don't expect good service or a romantic atmosphere. This is somewhere to go for a casual meal. We arrived at 6:30pm and the restaurant was busy - all the customers were Chinese, which is always a good sign in a Chinese restaurant. The menu really stands out - ovaries, stomach, tongue - nice if you're looking for something different. They do BBQ and hotpots and freshly made noodles. We ordered the beef noodle soup, chicken satay noodles, spring onion pancakes and sweet pumpkin cake. The noodle soup was full of flavour, without anything being overpowering and tasted so fresh. Was impressed with the noodles. The spring onion cake had a great texture, but lacked spring onion taste. Was surprised that the pumpkin cake was a dessert, as it wasn't in the dessert section. The cake was a pumpkin rice cake - sweet and chewey, served with condensed milk. The meal very much hit the spot. Portions sizes were good. This will definitely be a regular place to visit for us now.

Their business lunch is amazing- 2 starters plus a main, £6.50. Some interesting dishes and a fabulous, talented chef. Not your usual bog standard Chinese fare, some Korean dishes too.

Today got jalabi and hanshi halwa. Jalabi tasted like sweet fish batter. It was thick as a finger, just about dipped in the sweet fluid and taste HORRIBLE. The Habshi Halwa, do not remotely taste like the original ones. It was oily sweet plum of something.

Visited today with family after a while, went earlier around 3. Pm Ona Sunday. The place was quiet, quietest I have seen it but still had about 50 or so diners. They had all the dishes out but less quantity as they prepare on demand. Food was nice, I have today the dessert selection has Increased since last time. Food was fresh, well presented and restaurant very clean.
