How can I even begin? The location was stellar. The heather tapestry of the Scottish Highlands filled the view of any lodger. The crack of innocent trees tainted the natural beauty of the landscape. Ironically, I work for the forestry company. RIP the firs. Regarding the nearby field. (Location 56.2018783, -4.7120391) BEWARE! My lust for forestry and wood dragged us into this god forbidden field. Little did we know what events would ensue. It started with wet shoes. The type that squeak and squelch with every step towards the tree I sought to chop down. I reached the top of the field. Ha. What’s that I squeal. Dancing on my hands 5 black dots. I look down in horror at beige trousers being infested by ticks. I can speak kindly of the facilities which greeted my stream kindly. P.S all ticks have been removed.

Drop in here for a meal or a drink. An oasis! The Tarbet Hotel is opposite a bus stop and has a carpark at the side. The fabulous staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is excellent I chose a Chicken Cajun Toastie which normally is a bun and crusted but as I must have Gluten Free they offer the toastie on gluten free bread - perfect! Thank you very much!

The entrance and common areas of the hotel look nice. The rooms have been renovated but still show their age. Loose pieces everywhere, damaged floors, etc Very small bathroom with excellent standard shower. Bed comfort was ok. There were some fire doors in the hallway in front of our room... resulting in a lot of noise all evening from banging doors. And the same thing again in the early morning… (a little too much noise for a quiet night.) Hotel is not really suitable for people who are not mobile, long corridors, stairs and many interior doors. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant offered standard pub food, quality and taste weren't really great. (Salt and fat) Considering the low price they charged us, price/quality, I still rate this as an ok choice.

We stayed at Tarbet Hotel for 1 night on our way back down to the Lake District. The staff were lovely - friendly, helpful and happy. The room was clean and good value for money. The heating system was a little noisy at night but overall good experience. We ate an evening meal and breakfast in the dining room and both were tasty with good service. Would recommend to others as a good value stop on their travels. Very dog friendly too!

Stayed for one night after spending the day walking up Ben Lomond. From the moment we arrived to when we left the staff were so friendly and welcoming. Our room was lovely - spacious and clean with a nice view of the hills behind the hotel. Next time we may treat ourselves to a loch view. We ate in the restaurant and the food was wonderful - one of the nicest meals we have had in a while, then enjoyed the rest of the evening relaxing in the bar. After a comfortable night the breakfast was delicious being able to select from cereals, porridge and a full hot Scottish breakfast. Many thanks to all the staff for making us feel so welcome. I'm sure we will be back.

Traditional hotel, friendly welcome. We had a room overlooking Loch Lomond, so above the road. But the noise didn't bother us. Small room, obviously recently redone. Alright. We had seen some unfriendly comments about the restaurant, but we were very pleasantly surprised and we had a very good dinner. It is an old and warm hotel which seems to be gradually being renovated. We had booked well in advance through Booking, the room was 100 pounds, but the same day, we saw on the Internet, much more attractive prices with breakfast included, whereas this was not the case for us . So the prices seem to vary quite a bit.

I stayed at this hotel on Saturday and, while the staff was commendable for their friendliness, that was the extent of the positives. Despite understanding the price point of £84 and setting my expectations accordingly, I was left underwhelmed. The room had an off-putting odor—a mix of paint and aged furniture—that was quite strong. An attempt to air out the room led to the discovery that the window was nearly jammed, requiring a significant effort to open. In all, for the price paid, I anticipated a more pleasant environment.

Had a great craic at the hotel bar where we also had dinner. Decent pub fare: fish and chips, vegetable hotpot. The building itself is one of those grand Victorian-era hotels and is currently being renovated. For the price we paid we reckon it was great value and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is a jewel in the crown for coast and country. The staff are outstanding as they go that extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction. The food has went up to another level and it is all thanks to their amazing chefs. The management team, in my opinion cannot be beaten, unfortunately we learned on departure the manager, Ronnie Jackman has left and he will be sorely missed. The bar staff (Mark, Donna and Zoe) are truly wonderful. Wee Kyle and Fion in the restaurant are brill. Kirsty (under manager), Mirka and Davey are simply marvelous as is Ovidou (Joe) and if I have missed anyone I am truly sorry. Try this place as I am sure you will not be disappointed.

I am going to start this review with the good bits…. The WiFi was excellent and the shower was good…. The service from the bar staff and the dining room was ok…. The room was very basic… they ran out of ice on Saturday night so was unable to enjoy a few drinks…. On the first night the fire alarm went of twice and front of house Said the knew the fire alarm had a fault and there was no fire…. Not nice to stay in a hotel with a dodgy fire alarm… most of the hotel corridors had a very bad foosty smell…on the Sunday night they shut the bar at ten o’clock… so we were on holiday and were not able to enjoy a few drinks on the last night…. I would never go back to this hotel and will advise anyone to steer clear…. This is probably a 1 star hotel at best

The smell in the hotel was awful, damp or a water leak left an awful smell in the downstairs rooms. Diner was a nightmare, served starters together, husband went to bar and his main meal was left on table, even though I told them he was at the bar as no waiter service for bar and a long queue to pay, taken back and warmed evening uwll6, food was ok. Breakfast was worse, food was ok, but the service was awful, waiters wrong off their feet, eventually left without orange juice and fruit, must have asked for toast at 6 times before one piece each arrived. Nice large room with a view of the Loch, no beds made or towels changed, because of Covid we were told, funny we had been in a hotel in Oban for a week with beds made every day. Very disappointed

Communal areas,premier/superior rooms refurbished to a good standard. My registered blind husband, phoned hotel, before arrival, informing of our 44th wedding anniversary on Valentines Day, requesting flowers in room, OK. When booking, requested room reasonably near lift/stairs.Despite this, given standard room, not refurbished, twin beds, creaking floorboards, rattling sash window. En-suite,very small, door opened inwards, hitting toilet.Had to squeeze between shower and basin to close door to access toilet.Beds clean, comfortable. Automated blue nightlight on wall, lit room so brightly, disturbed our sleep, unable to turn off. Kitchen extractor, right outside window, started 6.30am,noise and smells woke us. Room door; directly adjacent to fire door which banged loudly when anyone passed through. Restaurant table; right by the entrance, isolated from other guests seated in main restaurant, waited several minute for servers to take our order, offer coffee, had to approach server to request coffee. Food; buffet breakfast; best, plenty and hot, Dinner; disappointing main portion size adequate, vegetable dish; only enough for one, only two veg, obviously frozen, not fresh. Opinion: servers should serve waiting guests before clearing vacated tables. Entertainment/ Bar staff, entertainment great, very enjoyable, not much room for dancing. Bar staff; friendly, polite, waiting guests should be served before bar cleaning before entertainment has even finished. May stay again when refurb complete.

We stayed at this hotel as part of our coach tour of Scotland with Shearings. Bearing in mind how we paid for our 8 days holiday, the three of us found this hotel to be: Very friendly Clean Well decorated for a building of this age. I’ve seen some of the adverse reviews about this hotel and as I was there at a similar time, cannot relate to them from my own experience. I have no complaints about my room, which had clearly been recently decorated and found the general ambience of the hotel to be good. The breakfast was really good with a good selection. The evening meal was good, plain, simple food which was all eaten by all of us.

I would like to start this review on a high note, the staff were all very good, attentive and wanting to please... we went for dinner having perused the menu outside which looked appealing, a set menu (£15.95) or an la carte with main prices being around £15 with starters and mains £6/7. We had booked a table for 7.30 and arrived around 7.20 to be told to come back at 7.30 ... at 7.30 there was a rush from the bar to the dining room whereby an elderly queue had quickly formed, we waited with our drinks for the queue to die (excuse the pun) down and got shown to an isolated ‘canteen’ table at the far end of the restaurant by the fire exit, I think the waiter could see our disappointment and prepared another table in the room which was far more appealing. My partner ordered a lamb shank from the a la carte menu and I ordered three courses from the set menu. My soup was tasty, fish main course dry, cold vegetables, and rubbery cheese, the lamb shank was good but accompanied by the same selection of cold vegetables, the food was best described as microwaved, conveyor belt school diners, I have had better airline meals. It appeared to be a Sheerings special holiday destination where people had paid very little for equal quality, it’s not a restaurant it’s a feeding area for a bus load of bargain holiday makers. I wish we had looked at the trip advisor ratings before we booked because the previous negative comments are very fair. Never in my life have I had to queue at the bar with the waiter to pay my bill, it was actually so bad it was funny and we had an entertaining evening, do not visit this place for a good quality meal, if you’re very hungry and know what you are going to get good luck, praise does go to the staff I think that’s why we did not complain, it is what it is

This our third visit to the Tarbet Hotel in the last 18 months. Since we were last here, the rooms & dining room have been refurbished & they are lovely. We usually ask for room 209 but thought we would just take what we were given this time & we got room 130 which was very large with a lovely view over Loch Lomond. The bathroom was a little small but that is just a minor detail. If you like to watch the television be prepared for a choice of only 5 channels. We stopped for lunch on our way through to Glasgow and totally regretted it. After waiting 30 minutes for a sandwich and soup, the food was basically inedible. Our third diner only had a slice of cake which was obviously from a supermarket but I think he was much better off for it. The sandwich bread was dry and curled up at the ends and the soup was a congealed concoction with a thick scum on the top. The staff were arguing amongst themselves about a couple of things right in front of the customers. Most off-putting and a little embarrassing to be honest. I wish I could be more positive but please avoid visiting if you can.

Joined a 5 day Shearings Tour from Nottingham. The hotel is ideally situated on the northern shore of Loch Lomond in Tarbet. The trip was excellent value. The hotel is Victorian and quaint. I have seen some of the negative reviews and feel if you can't say anything good - say nothing at all! The coach parties we were with were a great friendly bunch from all walks of life. Salt of the earth. The coach drivers Graham and Jimmy made the holiday I suppose. Their local knowledge and good humour was abundant. We had excellent tours out every day and a couple of optional trips too. Why sit on a free day in the hotel when you can see Scotland at its best? The weather was amazing though for late November, I must say. The food, in my opinion was excellent and well presented. The hotel staff were helpful, efficient and professional. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and Shearings Holidays to everyone. With one provisio - if you are a professional moaner, stay at home. Pessimism is infectious. Nuff said!

I went to stay one night at the Tarbet Hotel. Tired from a long day traveling I arrived at 9pm. At the check in I was told they had stopped serving in the restaurant at 8pm. Shocked I as if I could have some room service. I was told this was not possible as the kitchen staff had gone. I asked what time breakfast would and was told started at 8am. Because I had to leave at 7am I asked if I could have a continental breakfast delivered to my room. Apparently this was a decision of the night porter. The next morning I found there to be no hot water so had to have a cold shower and by the time I had to leave the breakfast had turned up either. I found this hotel very poor with rude staff. Personally I would drive straight passed. I shame as this place is located in a beautiful spot.

I stayed at the Bay Tarbet Hotel with my partner on a recent trip to Scotland. The hotel is in a PERFECT location—across the road from Loch Lomond. There are also some great walking trails in the forest surrounding the loch that can be easily reached from the hotel (we were tired of driving and could walk everywhere). The hotel was comfortable, clean, and quiet. The town of Tarbet is pretty small, so instead of driving to find somewhere for dinner we had the three-course dinner at the hotel. The food was good and reasonably priced, and the breakfast the next morning was yummy as well! All in all, very good value for a place with such an ideal location!

Fortunately we didn't stay here but unfortunately we stopped for lunch. Looking forward to some Scottish haddock, we ordered the 'traditional' fish and chips. What was served was frozen fish and frozen chips...straight out of a cheap supermarket packet. We used to stop at this Hotel years ago for afternoon tea, it was always lovely. I don't know who owns it now but they should be ashamed of their property. They are obviously surviving off unsuspecting tourists and coach tours. We went in for lunch after missing the signs for Country Mumkins. Fortunately, after driving on southbound we visited The Claret Jug at The Carick Golf Club it made our last day in Scotland more memorable.

Decided to go in here for lunch on the way home from a holiday and we we were pleasantly surprised. The food was good, although a little basic for the look of the hotel, it was a good warming lunch and was reasonably priced for what it was. The staff wee great, and we received a very warm welcome upon arrival. Parking is close to the front door and easy to access. Really would recommend popping in for lunch and a latte with a flavoured syrup is a must!

A very tired hotel, which is a shame as the staff work very hard and are very friendly and helpful. The decor is dated and worn - a lot of tlc is needed. The floors are very creaky so one is woken quite often during the night. The food is a little unimaginative, and a bit 'random' some days good, others not so - breakfast was fine but sometimes dinner was not as good as it should have been. The service was quick, sometimes at the expense of a properly laid table - some nights I had a butter knife, others not, some mornings one had two pots of coffee for 2 and 1 lot of toast (all we needed) another morning one would have 1 coffee and 2 toast .`My room was a little dingy, but very clean, the shower could do with a re-visit from a tiler. The t.v. was an old style portable and one has to go to higher numbers to get a programme (no instruction included in the room)...wi-fi hit and miss (possibly because of the area). surrounding area stunningly beautiful - and the hotel is o.k. but quite dingy inside - the bar area is brown & cream in colour.........felt sorry for the staff - it would be lovely if the owners invested some money in the hotel.

I have previously stayed at several Bay hotels and always found the food to be of a good standard. Not so our lunchtime visit. So disappointed in the service and the poor quality. We had both ordered the fish and chips but when I saw it being served at another table I quickly changed my mind. The fish had such a thick greasy batter and was obviously straight from the freezer. I was embarrassed to be Scottish on behalf of the foreign tourists who had ordered this. The tomato soup was so spicy I could hardly eat it.

We visited the Bay Tarbet Hotel on a Sunday for lunch on our way home from a weekend away in Argyll. On arriving, the restaurant was very quiet, with only a few tables taken - surprising for a Sunday afternoon, so we were a bit worried! We needn't have been though - the service was incredibly quick and the food was lovely with big portions. We ordered a child's fish fingers, chips and peas and it was basically an adult portion - great value for money! The staff were all very friendly and lovely. We'll definitely be back!

A typical coach tour hotel, we had dinner and the starters must have already been plated up in the kitchen with the speed they arrived at our table, same with the main course and sweets having said that £12.95 for three courses you get what you pay for.

stopped for lunch on the way to arrochar . Staff were slow to acknowledge our arrival, i ordered chicken gougons and my wife ordered a chicken burger. The chicken burger was low quality chicken mush so much so we swapped meals as my wife could not eat it. chicken gougons where of a very low quality and chips where under cooked. we both had upset stomachs that evening. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Pulled in on a rest stop and how wonderful it was. My sister was veggies so was worried about the choice but the burgers were great! 10/10 recommended!

I ordered the venison burger, it was really awful. If one part of the meal was not good i would of mentioned it and given them the chance to sort it. But due to so many parts of the meal being really bad it made more sense to write a bad review. The food was what the food was. Chips were sickly pale and undercooked, onion rings were undercooked in oil not hot enough leaving it thick and soaked through the batter, oil was also not clean, it had black bits throughout. The burger bun was dry and freezer burned, either stale or hard at edges from being microwaved. The venison burger had been frozen and defrosted in the microwave, but too long in the microwave so it was dry and solid like a hockey puck. The woman at the bar was not particularly friendly either, not the younger girl, the older one. We spend £45 in there, we were extremely hungry from climbing so we ate it all but it really really was terrible and just to fill a hole.

Stopped for a lunch break thoroughly enjoyed it and was made aware of the parking situation and there is also a display to allow you to put in your details so why others have complained when it's right in front of you ? Anyway food service and surroundings were all excellent

We came for a birthday party at the soft play and stayed and had some lunch - such a lovely venue with gardens and walking areas as well as the cafe and softplay for kids. The food in the cafe was surprisingly good. Excellent options for those with dietary requirements and really delicious food which seemed to be properly made from scratch (veggie/vegan mushroom sausage roll and GF pizza were a real hit!). Service was lovely too. Will definitely visit again.
