In September 2022 I complained about Room 315. When ever the water was drained from the basin in the bathroom, water with black bits and smelling foul would come up in the shower outlet. The receptionist at the time, told me it was my fault and not to fill the basin. In October I posted a review on Tripadvisor and wrote a letter to Bespoke Hotels head office,(the management company for Coast and Country Hotels. No one has bothered to respond.

I just spent 2 nights at this lovely hotel with my 11 year old grandson. All the staff were so helpful and friendly. Bar staff, reception, waiting staff and cleaners. A very reasonable priced bar. We had a twin sea view room number 314. Room was spotless. 2 comfortable beds. Huge room. Beautiful view. Breakfast was great. Self service. Entertainment on last night was lovely. I would recommend and will definitely visit again.

Awful place. Rooms looked nothing like the photos booked and were very dated and furniture falling apart. Music really loud even three floors up. Staff were beyond miserable. Manager very unhelpful.

Our room was a tiny double on the top floor…first impression was very run down. We entered the room which was stifling hot but luckily we had bought our dyson fan from home, we plugged it in, closed the curtains then went out, when we went back to the room at night we noticed someone had been in…no fan on but the TV was on, immediately we weren’t happy so my husband went stomping down to reception unaware that the electric had tripped out which I found out myself by plugging the kettle in…it seemed if two things were plugged into a double socket, which was the wooden dressing table with an extension lead fixed into the old unit….it tripped all the sockets out in the room & in other rooms on the same floor. This was of no use to us as my husband has a sleep apnea machine which he has to wear every night….we were told that the electrician had been & couldn’t find a reason for everything tripping but the hotel staff would check it every 30 minutes & reset it…OMG but in the meantime my husband could die in his sleep!! Luckily eventually the guy on reception moved us to another room along on the same floor….it was much bigger but still awful, honestly it was like going back in time, how on earth are these places still open or even allowed to be open. The shower had hardly any power, there was a big window above the bath where the shower was, it had no blind or privacy glass to keep you private, there were 3 slats of wood across, obviously you stop young children falling out but whilst I was showering in the bath I held onto one which fell off in my hand. Honestly we were so glad to leave!! This was our first holiday in two years because of COVID-19, it’s been 20 years since we stayed anywhere in the UK & to be honest in all the places we’ve been during this holiday, Oxford, Weymouth, Salisbury, Bournemouth, Bath…all hotels are very similar, very old & dated which to be honest should be closed down, I really don’t know how they stay open at all!!

Just returned from our first Leger holiday. Instructed to join coach at Lymm Services @ 8.am. Shearings liveried coach arrived promptly at 08.00 hrs. Good start. 08.45am. not moved a wheel, taxi delay given as the reason. Managed one 15 min break 11.00am. arrive at Tamworth Services for transfer to Tour coach. Driver advises a 30 to 45 min delay to reposition hold luggage . 12.30pm. All vestiges of a ‘Shearings’ holiday disappeared as we boarded an antiquated vehicle which had long passed its fifth birthday. Coach was totally unsuitable for a long distance journey. No dropdown tables probably due to the restricted leg room, over tight seatbelts that when engaged literally jammed you rigidly into the seat making impossible to move. The seats themselves were uncomfortable making the whole trip difficult. Both the Feeder & Tour coaches where almost full to capacity, no social distancing in sight. The same hotel was used. This was one of several ex Shearings hotel purchased following the demise of the original Shearings company. Rooms were serviced before & after occupation, which was due to the prevailing covid restrictions. Obviously being run with a reduced staff, which translated to a very slow restaurant service. Food was edible. Please be aware that one of the included trips to a local Tank Museum does NOT include the entrance fee of £15.00pp. A fact that is not mentioned in the itinerary nor by the driver until we arrived. All together a poor first experience.

Chose this hotal as friend had always wanted to stay here.oroir to arriving I'd spent 8 days on cycling trip choosing hotal purely on room rate stayed at almost identical beachfront Victorian hotal played less then half the price and that hotal had gym ,pool and large gardans their isn't much wrong with the royal that a refurbishment coudnt sort in the rooms wall paper peeling windows nead paint job doors nead key fobs. The situation with parking neads to be addressed haven to park ten min walk away and finding a long stay car park isn't partcell. We booked a sea view and expected a balcony I think we were two off the few rooms that didnt have balcony none off these things are major isuee but for the price I have stayed at hotal says as mercure that are off better standard and hotal off the same standard for less money ,that being said the hotal us in a idel location has friendly staff altough more staff are posbell needed on duty as sometime hard to get attention in bar under current regulation but would stay again but a bit off fine turning to make it worth orice

Used Booking.com for a 50th birthday weekend, the first picture you see is what was advertised by this hotel, you can see what we got, the place is disgusting!! DO NOT STAY HERE!! Anywhere but here. I’ve never been misled/mis sold using booking.com so I trusted it, never again. Even the soap in the shower was from the previous occupant. This place needs knocking down. The duty manager couldn’t have cared less, she was more worried about me complaining in front of people looking to check in. When I showed her the website and demanded the room I’d paid for she finally admitted that the pictures are not that hotel but a sister hotel???!! This has to be illegal, surely. I’m going to have to take this further, It’s not COVID safe. Restaurant staff can’t be bothered, breakfast is £14:99, should be £3 tops. I did notice that on checking out they don’t ask how your stay was or was everything ok? Not surprised. Disgusting hole of a place. You have been warned.

We booked in after 3pm, despite having several bags there were no porters to assist us to our 3rd floor room. We did have a sea view and access to the central upper balcony. However, a pigeon had decided to nest in the hotel sign above this and none of its droppings had been cleared away. The room was tidy and compact. A nice comfortable bed, TV, kettle and tea/coffee sachets. Bathroom. Oh dear, this let the hotel down tremendously. Just look at the attached photos, but, if you like the smell of fresh bleach then you’ll be in heaven. The basin came with a high tide mark, the skirting boards in the bedroom were disgusting, the shower head was filthy, the toilet seat was also the same. Breakfast. We had to go through the dining room to access the lift to our floor. And although empty it smelt rather badly of Body Odour and sour milk. Not where I’d like to eat. Luckily we were seated in the rear reception for our breakfast which was Buffet style and consisted of cold fried eggs or tepid scrambled eggs, which luckily accompanied the cold bacon, sausages, grilled tomato, and warmish baked beans. We were also treated to a selection of 3 cereals and an array of prunes, (obviously the fresh fruit option)! I did get a lovely hot coffee and made myself some warm toast, which was nice! Warm fruit juice, tepid “iced” water, I avoided the milk at all costs. All in all a resplendent building, steeped in seaside resort history, ruined by a large owning company with no regard to its staff or customers. Bay Hotel group directors, you should be ashamed of yourself!

I have used shearing hotels many times over the years and always upgraded to better rooms, which were adequate. This time however I travelled by shearing coach. The biggest mistake ever.i had to travel from redditch to Lichfield to catch it from the bus station with my sister and brother in law who live there.even though we paid £10 extra each for front seats, this apparently does not include the interchange at Corley services, where to our horror we find out we are herded like cattle into the services, where we spent one and a half hours before our coach was called, onward trip to weymouth was less of a problem although we still spent an unecceasery hour at a stop at Cheveley services. The hotel rooms were extremely shabby and dirty,I complained straight away and was told no other rooms available.my sister had to change rooms due to a non working shower,we were told a cancellation had enabled this.on the plus side we found all restaurant staff, very friendly and competent, the kitchen staff also should be commended for their tastey menu's, we had no complaints over the food or service.our coach driver Julie was a very proficient driver and handled all luggage with ease.my main critic would be the state of the coaches interiors, dirty, basic,no entertainment systems on board even though our journey took around 8 hours just to reach weymouth, unacceptable. On FURTHER INVESTIGATION It Would APPEAR To Be The NORM,with many other travellers venting their frustration at the interchanges, time delays and shabby coaches.ime sorry shearing, but I don't think I will even use your hotels again and definitely not your coach services.one very unhappy traveller who incidently had to pay a supplement for a shabby ,dirty room, and a mattress that left me speechless, even with an additional quilt applied under the bottom sheet to soften the springs.

En general, fue una muy buena relación calidad-precio. El hotel era un poco de encanto marchito pero muy agradable. La comida era buena para lo que pagamos. Y se podía bailar los pantalones si quería, la música. Es todo lo que hacen todos.

We have just returned from a Shearings Coach holiday break in Weymouth staying at Bay Royal Hotel. What fantastic value this was! We have had many Shearings holidays but this has been one of the best. The hotel was ideally situated on the sea front close to all amenities and of course the beach. We had many lovely walks. We found the food in the hotel of a very high standard, always hot and varied and well-presented. This, we were told, was due to the second chef who was standing in for the main chef who was on leave. He did a great job and needs to be commended. A great asset to the Bay Royal. The staff were smart, friendly and were always there to help. Our room was clean, fresh and very comfortable as well as being well looked after by our hotel maid June. The bar staff, waiters and entertainments, again, were the very best. The hotel still retains its victorian charm especially for us, we loved the old-fashioned gate lift. Very quirky! We must compliment the management of the hotel for maintaining such a high standard. Well done Bay Royal and we will most certainly be returning sometime in the future.

stayed for Easter weekend 2015. Stayed in a superior room which was okay, dated decor but clean enough and amazing seaside views over Weymouth from fabulous windows, very nice to sit and watch the world go by. Rooms were a bit cold at night (corridors on the other hand were boiling). Bed not particularly comfortable. Food was dated (haven't seen croquette potatoes for a long time). Limited choice of unimaginative meals at dinner. No evidence of local seafood for example. No fresh fruit at breakfast. Realise they are catering for big numbers but could have been better, some things were definitely frozen or tinned. Staff were attentive And helpful and made up for some of the poor areas. Evening entertainment was dire, don't bother. Very good central location. Parking was a bit of a nightmare, even though one of our party had a blue badge; still needed to get a permit from the hotel and display that, all a bit complicated. Wi-Fi only in public areas, not in the rooms. Overall, okay. Lovely staff and great location, but dated food and decor.

Cakes are all fresh and lovely, Dorset Apple Cake was delicious and a generous portion given. Coffee was good. 2 points to bear in mind….. 1. Don’t forget when ordering your drinks that sugar is not given. I had to go back to the counter and queue for a few minutes only to ask for sugar, they only offered one satchet but I asked for four…….Times must be hard…..lol 2. No cash is allowed, card only. Apart from that it is a nice atmosphere and lovely views outside.

Lovely setting but that was about it for the positives. The service was patchy and with so few things on the menu, you would have thought that the serving staff would be able to answer simple questions instead of saying. 'I don't know I haven't tried that'! The food was very poor, three of us ate there and not one of us had a satisfying meal. Soggy batter on the fish and chips, overcooked shrimps served only with a small portion of ridiculously spicy rice and no vegetables in sight and the vegan fish and chips was totally tasteless (we didn't end up paying for this meal). The chips were good though but not a meal. Much more thought needed to be given about presenting balanced meals, taking pride in ensuring that each item on a very limited menu was cooked properly and taste tested. It seems as if this restaurant is relying on location rather than serving good food and that really is a shame.

Came here for a bottomless brunch with my friends, our server was a young lad called reuben who was so friendly. Kept our drinks topped up and even sat down and had a drink with us when he finished. Can’t wait to come back for our annual trip.
