Bay Leaf in Northumberland

Food came in drips and drabs as they were busy and some of our order was missing and they were very unpleasant and we left early without finishing our food as we waited over one and half hours for total food order.

Got an order delivered Christmas Eve through Cramlington eats, unfortunately probably one of the worst takeaway curries I’ve had. Ordered a chicken tikka masala and it was runny and tasteless. Spicy chips arrived luke warm.

Ordered a takeaway on Saturday 1st April, when it came it wasn't what we had ordered. It was labelled correctly, but on opening it was something else. We ordered a Lamb Madras with two Keema naans, what we got was Chicken Korma and two plain naans? The price difference between the two meals was £1.90! When I rang the restaurant the manager was less than helpful and hung up, before I'd finished explaining...

Not many in but the service was prompt and friendly, happy to discuss what each meal was. The food was excellent and for once no doggie bag as it was so tasty. Recommend you try something different as many new meals available. Cobra on draught cold and delicious

I popped in after work and ordered a meal (starter, main and side). It took 15 minutes to make. The meal was excellent! The meal was delicious and fantastic value for money. I'll DEFINITELY return again.

Lovely meal and service as usual. Thursday night banquet is a good way to try different dishes. Cobra on draft so its a win win.

Just moved to the area and we were wondering about this resturant/takeaway so pleased we tried it a tad expensive but wow it was well worth every penny a really lovely meal, we would reccomend to all of our friends and family... we will be back to order again.

First time we have used for a takeaway. Unfortunately it was very disappointing. Food was bland. The poppadoms were crushed to death, and totally inedible. For £40 I would have expected better from a simple takeaway never mind an actual restaurant! We won’t be using again!

I LOVE this restaurant, the food is amazing and the staff are lovely. They were happy to talk through gluten free options with me.

Visited for the first time tonight. The food was gorgeous and the staff very welcoming and friendly, we’ll definitely be back!

Slow service then very below average food. My wife found a hair in her starter to which they replaced it but it was still concerning. The main had undercooked chicken which again they sorted. Appears hygiene standards are low. We won’t return.

We bought a take away meal for 3 people. One meal, marked with one chilli on the menu was so hot I had to bin it uneaten and take 4 antihistamine tablets to calm my lips and tongue down. I do not have food allergies that I know of, so was very surprised at having to do this. The chicken tikka main course had unnecessary hot spicy onions on it. That was off-putting to the person who had ordered it. The vegetable biryani was tasteless. Worst of all, my husband's food made him ill overnight and all the next day (today). We won't go back there.

During lock down we have had many take aways always fabulous.. tonight we visited the restaurant with friends for the first time.... omg food atmosphere FANTASTIC can't wait to go back .. a little gem in cramlington that I want to keep to myself lol 😆 but can't be selfish as the food, service and wine is all to awesome not to share with others 😁

The food and service from here is second to none. We have eaten in and ordered deliveries and every time the standard is fantastic. On the rare occasion a delivery is going to be late, they always call and say. Open, honest and transparent to say the least. I have recommended the Bayleaf to colleagues from curry capitals such as Leeds and Birmingham and they all comment on the quality and taste. I just want to add that the new-ish owners have inherited a not so good legacy but have continued to address this professionally and continue to build a great business in the hardest of hard times. I ordered a delivery tonight from the bay leaf, first time trying them. The customer service was spot on, when the order was placed there must have been some confusion on my order so rather than just making up what they thought I received a phone call to confirm what I ordered. The delivery driver did struggle to find my house (silly satnav sends you to next street down) he rang and explained address he had (mine) and were he was and he was lovely and polite, food still hot. The food was delicious every tasty and would defiantly order again and hopefully maybe even get to try the restaurant once we are safely allowed back out. Over all lovely helpful staff and delivery driver and good tasty food.

We ordered a few main meals with sides , food was delivered and piping hot . The quality of the chicken in the curry was really nice . Definitely re ordering and recommending to friends and family . Thank you bay leaf

Yet again faultless service and quickly delivered. Food was very good standard as usual. Can t wait for restaurant to open again.

Hadn't had a take away from them for a while so phoned an order based on the menu I had for a banquet for 2. Informed it was no longer on the menu but they could make us one - very nice I thought. 1hr 15min to prepare seemed a bit long to wait but we went with it. I phoned 10 minutes before to check it was ready and was told 10 minutes. Turned up to collect the meal after the 10 minutes to be informed there would be a further 20 to 30 minute wait by the apologetic waitress. Bemused, I told her I had been told it would be ready. Enter the manager who bluntly told me there would be no food that wasn't on the menu. "So we get no food" I asked - "yes, no food!". Wow, no more custom from us either. So disappointing and very bad service - we will find another Indian restaurant.

Attended with friends as we hadn t been in for a while. Really friendly service and the food was as usual excellent. Busy but well spaced.

We were regular visitors to the bay leaf and when it changed owner's we decided to give it a chance. Menu was very different but we tried several different dishes, Nothing special, so we went elsewhere. Friends told us it had improved so we went back last week for a takeaway and it was average but better than before, we went again last night more because it's practically on our doorstep. It was Bland,Tasteless and watery and basically only ate the chicken (Chicken Tikka Bhuna & Chicken jalfrezi.) Had we not been going out i would have put it back in the container and took it back. Very Disappointed and will not be going back anytime soon.

My girlfriend and I were visiting Newcastle seeing friends locally and we booked here and the food was amazing. The staff were all lovely, attentive and the service was efficient, we got the kebabs (MUST try) and a spicy prawn (Kurai?) and a chicken madras, their naans are huge and the dips with the pops some were divine, it’s making me hungry just writing the review again...

Shambolic! No social distancing, massively overbooked,we gave up waiting and left after an hour of no service after we had repeatedly asked to order and no one came. The staff looked more and more panicked, tables full of people were getting annoyed as no service and they were still squeezing more in. I have heard the food is fantastic (hence the reason we booked) however I have no idea as we gave up after an hour when one of the waiters admitted he had no clue how long it would be before we were served, the only saving grace was the apologetic young man who didn’t charge us for our drinks as we left due to the terrible service. Like a bad episode of Hell’s Kitchen

We used to be customers of the Bay leaf but stopped using it about two years ago because portion sizes were shrinking and it wasn't value for money. There is now a new owner called "Mo" and we had heard he has brought completely new staff with him and added new dishes on the menu. We gave a takeaway a try for the first time, last night. It was simple to order on line and even choose the time we wanted it delivered. The fact we lived four miles away wasn't a problem for home delivery. It arrived exactly at the time we asked. The portion sizes were much improved than they used to be with the previous owner. All the containers were full to the top. The food was spot on, full of flavour and very tasty. It's great to see the Bayleaf is getting back on track under new management. I am very pleased we tried it again after all this time. It's completley different now! When Covid-19 is over we look forward booking a table inside the restaurant.

I’ve just had my 1st takeaway from here for years, Having been told it was under new management. I love my Indian food, and all I can say is it was beautiful. Had the chicken tikka vindaloo, and I’m a chip man so always get let down by chunky hard potatoes. These wer spot on, really nice. Said it would be an hour it was bang on 60mins. Food nice and hot, and the flavour of the curry was how a vindaloo should be. Will most defo be back.

We ate for the first time here,after recommendation,and the food was lovely! Tried quite a few Indian restaurants and takeaways over the years but this was probably the best we have ever had. Very comfortable with attractive decor, staff were very helpful and friendly and we spoke with the owner and his wife who are lovely. Had mixed kebab starters, everything tasted fresh and made with quality ingredients, the salad garnish also very fresh. We had three different curries, two chicken and one lamb and they were superb with the best rice ever! Naan bread was just right, not too thick and beautifully cooked, all very tasty. We left as very happy customers. We will definitely be back very soon!

First visit back after Oli and his team left the Bayleaf . After over ten years of outstanding food and service, I'd had reservations of revisiting the Bayleaf as I did not think the high standards could be maintained. However the new owners are an absolute credit to the Bayleaf!! The food was excellent and service was good. Will definitely be returning to the best Indian restaurant in Cramlington

Had the most amazing valentines meal with family at this restaurant, the staff are so helpful, friendly and polite. They strive to accommodate to your culinary tatstes nothing is too much bother. Definitely good value for money. The food is absolutely amazing very tasty , the portions were spot on , not too big, not too small and the Orange Sorbet was the icing on the cake. There were 6 people in our party and everyone was completely satisfied with all the food and said that they will all definitely return. We were made to feel very welcome from such warm friendly people. Well done Bay Leaf your food is amazing.

One word wow.Under new management. Warm welcome and staff friendly and helpful. Everything is cooked fresh and cooked to your request with a problem. We had 6 different main curries and they were outstanding not swimming in oil.A must for indian food lovers.Parking outside but has small step up to entrance but staff will assist if have Disability. Disabled toilets available. Can book ahead or walk in.Take out available. They do specials night on Thursday and Sunday for 5 courses for £16.Definitely worth a visit

Went for the Sunday special to find the business under new management. We will miss Oli however the new team were friendly so we decided to stay. The menu has changed and although some dishes remain they were noticeably different in appearance and taste. That is not to say there were not enjoyable ,they were but not quite what we were expecting so it really comes down to personal preferences.

So today I made my first visit to Bay Leaf in Cramlington. First impressions are that I am very impressed. The restaurant itself is extremely tidy and very well presented. I was kindly greeted the moment I walked in. Staff are so kind and engaging, it felt like I had been here 100 times before!I was attending Bay leaf with a few business partners of mine and it’s been the first time we’ve visited this restaurant. We all got a few mains, sides dishes and naan breads. There is not a single complaint I could make about the food, service or the waiting time. Food was absolutely breathe taking and I don’t say that easily. Piping hot when it had arrived and the smells are of something that is out of this world. I would advise ANY food or restaurant lover to definitely make the time to come visit the Bay Leaf. Overall I have exceptionally enjoyed my experience at the Bay Leaf, and me and my business partners will most certainly be making this a weekly visit. So thank you Bay Leaf and to all its staff!

Its a shame Ollie is no longer managing but to be fair we have been twice under the new management and the food and service have been excellent on both occasions. No complaints.

We had a fantastic meal in this restaurant this evening, delicious food and a great atmosphere. The whole restaurant vibe has changed from what it was before to a warm welcoming feel with authentic Indian food. Well done to the new management, highly recommend it to everyone

Having been a regular at the Bay Leaf for many years I was very sad to hear that Oli was selling up. We decided to continue to support the new owners. Last week the food was ok, nothing special, but we gave them another go last night. The food was bland and not at all the same as it used to be. It’s a real shame but we won’t be back.

Was looking for a new local Indian restaurant when i recently moved into the area,and after looking online this place stood out,they have a banquet special on a Sunday and Thursday which works out at £16 each for a mix of starters,poppadoms and dips,two curry’s,rice and spiced potatoes,very good value,its presented well and tasty food. Staff our great very attentive from the moment you arrive until you leave,i definitely will be back,highly recommend

Truly beautifully created Bengali food. Not like your typical Indian type of food. This is Bengali which tends to be 'slightly' sweeter tasting than a typical Asian (Indian), as a general rule of thumb, and much more flavoursome. Bengal food is king!!

Not just the best Asian food in Cramlington but the best I have tasted ever. Food freshly cooked. Good use of spices and can be as hot as you like. They will cook to how you want it. Give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Was told to come here by the in laws and thought I’d give it a try as my regular place doesn’t do fish. The food has been lovely however I feel sick having read they have a 1 star hygiene review. Disgusting sort it out they should not be serving food when not clean

I and 3 friends had a delightful meal once again. The service was spot on, and friendly. This restaurant is my restaurant of choice in the area.

Went on Sunday for the banquet special, the poppadoms and chutneys were outstanding. The starters we ordered were onion bhajis and the special kebab. I would probably not order the bhajis again but only because they were so filling I could not eat my main course! For mains we both opted for a dish wee had not had before, lamb lemongrass and a chicken tikka biryani. Both were of a high quality, we also got a mushroom pilau, and a very garlicy naan bread (thanks for the extra garlic), and decided to try the tarka dhal, which was lovely. You really can't beat this indian which is why we travel about 17 miles each way to eat there.

Thought it deserved another good review as just been in the last week and can honestly say the standard of food is very good. The welcome is always warm and friendly. On top of the food they also do a nice pint of cobra !

We had not been for some time but were greeted as old friends. Once we had caught up on our news we decided to allow the staff to make choices for our main meal. We were not disappointed. Our food was fabulous, as usual. This is a great little restaurant, whether eating in or having a takeaway. We, hopefully will be back soon.

What a place! Our second visit following recommendation by friends and the best Indian food I’ve eaten, besting my previous favourite restaurant. The onion bhaji’s are the best I’ve tried, freshly made and really light. The Sri Lankan duck was tender and beautifully flavoured ... and had some real spice to it. Topping off a brilliant evening was the superb and friendly service from a great staff team. A gem of a restaurant. We’ll be back again soon!

Visited on Thursday night, everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. One of the starters ordered came with chicken rather than prawns but was yummy anyway. When we left they had made me a prawn one to take home with me - even though I had said it didn't matter - what service!!!!!!!! It was nice to see the restaurant busier than usual as it is that good it should be full all the time.

Last time I order from here. Cold takeaway, rude staff, belittled husband when asked for refund. First time was really nice and got increasingly worse. When it arrived cold I was told to microwave it. Wrong!!!

Was like eating a cardboard box very disappointed had no taste what so ever. Never again. Was recommended to you but no unless we just struck unlucky. Wouldn't even of put a 1 star but had no choice

May never have visited if I hadn't read the reviews on trip advisor. The venue itself is fairly basic but the food is of the finest quality. We visited on a Thursday for the special banquet night.

Fabulous Duck Tikka Vindaloo, Tandoori King Prawns amazing. We are experts in Indian food and the staff really looked after us here. Poppadoms were warm and fresh pickles lovely, we asked for Naga and got it! Beer crisp and fresh as well highly recommended

Nothing has changed in the Bayleaf i am glad to say. Still very good food which is well presented. It is service with a smile and always made to feel welcome. Definitely recommended.

This is our favourite Indian restaurant in the area and believe me we have been to a few.

Been on many occasions and been impressed. Went for my mums birthday with my wife and my parents. A great warm welcome from the owner. Starters come and included chicken chatt and stuffed pepper. All were fantastic. Main courses again were amazing. King prawn dish, mixed grill chefs special jalfrazi and chicken bhuna. All fantastic and full of flavour. All with drinks included was very reasonable. Very highly recommend

Used to use this restaurant every week for takeaways but the last 3 times the chicken has been very chewy. I’ll not be returning. Think they might be using cheaper chicken.

Friendly staff, food is always fresh and tasty. Never had a sit down meal but the take away is excellent. Much nicer than some others in the area !

Restaurant was freezing. I sat with my jacket on the whole time. Electric kept tripping. They had some sort of visitors which we thought were bailiffs discussing business and payments over the counter. Not very professional. Food was nothing to write home about and I've had much better elsewhere. Sadly we won't be back.

Ok so i love lamb dishes but very wary where i order it from. I ordered it few weeks ago (by recommendation) was blown away how tender and delicious it was. So ordered same dish tonight and cant eat the lamb so disappointed x

I have driven past this place numerous times and thought it was about time I tried it for an evening meal. My wife and I visited on a Saturday night and upon arrival we chose to sit at the table next to the front window. We were greeted and shown the menu and at this point ordered a bottle of house red wine. The service was excellent and the price reasonable. We had mixed kebab and onion bhaji for starters, chicken rogan josh & Lamb tikka balti vindaloo hot for mains. Side orders of mixed rice, chips & garlic/keema nan completed our feast for the evening. All food was served promptly and was hot and was of a good standard. Well worth a visit and we will definitely be returning.

Fantastic meal, very fresh tasting and sensible sized portions. Spicing just right, hot actually means hot. Very attentive and friendly staff, will visit again soon! Online bookings including same day, and text saying table was ready. 10 out of 10!

I ordered Duck Masala, Lemon Grass and Butter Chicken online. The delivery was on time and the food was fresh. Recommended!

This restaurant is a little not-so-hidden gem in Cramlington and serves by far the best food in the region. Because its not in the main village there are always tables available and it also does take-aways. Only one little thing lets it down. The drinks we had were warm. I had a spirit and coke and someone else had diet coke. Both were served without ice and warm so the pop was not kept in the fridge but even if not, ice would have helped! I didn't order more drinks for that reason. Price wise it is a little expensive so could not afford to eat there regularly.

My husband and I went here for a very rare night out and had amazing meal which wasn't too expensive (but not cheap). The staff were helpful, polite but not overbearing. There was a couple of other tables occupied when we first went in at around 7.30pm but then there was just us and a few who came briefly to collect takeaway orders. We would recommend and hope to visit again soon, although may try the Thursday night special

2nd time we've had food from the Bayleaf, first time we dined in and were really impressed by the quality of the fish and seafood dishes. We had King Prawn Sagwalla and Machli Tomato Monkfish, enjoying it so much we thought we'd see if it would be as good when ordered as a takeaway dish. It was equally as good, which is not always the case when we order takeaway food. Would definitely recommend The Bayleaf and for those who like fish curries it's a must.

Bayleaf restaurant is most definitely one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever tried here in Cramlington. The service was brilliant and in comfortable surroundings, The main dish that I loved was the monk fish curry much recommend. Sheik, Oli and Miskath are the most kind and caring waiters around.

This place serves the best curry in cramlington and is a regular spot for takeaway. We visited there and decided for a sit down meal for a change and sad to say I was disappointed. The food was its usual lovely self but the portions were a lot less than takeaway and with only 3 king prawns rather than 4! They were the usual size so I did feel robbed. We paid and found the prices must be just a guide with random prices for our drinks (which were not itemised). Shame.

We went on a wet and windy Wednesday and stepped into a very cosy, warm restaurant. Feeling adventurous I asked one of the owners, Oliur, for recommendations and enjoyed the Nihari Fish Cakes as a starter, wonderful flaked Salmon with Lemon and Coriander in crispy breadcrumbs. I would definitely have them again! I asked for a king prawn dish recommendation that was full of flavour but not too hot and had a brilliant King Prawn Jingo Masala WOW I didn't think it could get any better until my Keema Naan came and it was packed with tasty lamb and I can honestly say it was the best Keema Naan I've ever had! My partner's Chicken Tikka Biryani looked like a work of art and tasted superb especially with the wonderfully spiced Vegetable Curry Sauce, he was blown away with the flavours and the generous amount of chicken. We enjoyed it so much we rushed back on the Saturday for a cheeky takeaway and YES the takeaway was just as tasty as the restaurant meal. Well done Bay Leaf!!!

Such a late review as can't keep away from b leaf! Been goin ere since first opened . Al b honest as that's what this is about! Used 2 go Al time then ad a break as Al drive anywhere 4 curry been using a few Indian ere & their! Am from cramlington & big curry fan been Al over looking 4 a proper curry house! & the bay leaf is miles above! it may b a restaurant that looks plush, & it is ,but its chilled & friendly & owners will accommodate anything u ask! Best Indian by miles in long way! Al currys full ov spice no corners cut! Giv it ago as nowhere in blyth valley anywhere close!!!! If ur a regular curry eater ???? Best around proper Bangladesh home cookin!!

Prefer this Indian to any in or around Cramlington, staff always have a smile on their face too which is nice. A small restaurant which should be busier (if more people knew) but also a fantastic takeaway service. My partner recommends the Jordaloo, comes with little crispy bits on top which is lovely, I myself like the chicken Ceylon which is not too hot, just right. If you haven't tried this place and you like Indian restaurants give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Get a takeaway from here most Fridays and it always arrives piping hot, quickly, and tastes fab! This is our best take away Indian by far. Plus, the staff seem lovely and happy to help. Slightly more costly than other Indian takeaway but the quality and quantity definitely shines through! Well done bay leaf!

Had a takeaway from here for the first ( and last ) time, Felt we had to give it a go as the set banquet for 2 was very reasonably priced at £19.95 for several dishes,The starters and naan bread were fine however the pilau rice was awful and the mains were edible but lacked any real flavour with hardly any meat with loads of sauce, Won't be going back Sticking with the Lal Qila from now on far better food.

Came here for a Saturday night dinner whilst visiting family. We had been before but not for a little while.There is a good variety to choose from and the food was very good and freshly cooked. We just had popadoms and mains, even then we couldn't finish everything. The garlic naans were particularly good and fresh. I think it is a shame that the resturant is not busier as the food is really good. Had a really enjoyable meal and will return when we go back up.

Any time we fancy Indian food we always come here, don't even consider anywhere else! Great value banquet night on a Thursday and excellent for take aways. Willing to change set menus, recipes to suit taste etc. A great local eatery.

My partner and I live up the road from here and it is one of the reasons we stay where we live! It's a nicely priced restaurant and take away with a great little restaurant! If you are unsure of your curries trust their decisions when you tell them your taste and you will not be disappointed! To the chap who called the older employee 'elderly' I am disgusted! This gentleman is a wonderful member of staff and I rate them all highly!

Lovely atmosphere. Pleasant staff. Difficult parking especially at night. But the red ceiling lighting is too much to the point where it detracts from the enjoyment of the occasion.

We have neve had a bad meal here. They will alter the recipe to suit your taste. Great food, great service.

The food as always was very good. Unfortunately as we visited on a Saturday night the staff were so occupied with takeaway customers that actual diners were neglected. The elderly waiter was a little out of his depth and gave the impression he could not care less about our meal. To ask how our meal was is a given, however to turn and race back to the service counter before an answer could be given is just rude. The chef here is excellent but the establishment needs to decide whether it is a takeaway or somewhere you really want to come for an evening meal.

Use the bay leaf for couple years now and travel a 10min drive to get it. Lovely food reasonably priced and they do free delivery over £10 if you live nearby.Defo recommend the chicken bhuna and jalfrezi

First time using this restaurant Thursday night, a extremely warm welcome by polite professional attentive staff.We needed advice about the dishes on the menu as we like to try something new now and again and it was given to us in a very enthusiastic way, we then understood why because when the food arrived it was well presented and tasted absolutely amazing.

I have been here multiple times, for both take and away and dine in, and have never been disappointed with the quality of the food or the service.I tend to prefer spicy food and the Jal Jul is a perfect example of a hot spicy dish but with alot of taste. I have also had the monk fish curries, both which are nice. Sometimes I have found that sometimes the dishes may be to hot for some people but the restaurant is always willing to cater for the individual if you ask them.The restaurant itself is small and can be cramped at times, but the atmosphere is always pleasant and the staff are attentive and friendly.I do not think that I will be getting my take away from anywhere else in the near future.

went for a nice meal but was disappointed food was good but cold did not look fresh.very small restaurant sat next to the door cold air was coming all the time staff looked busy on other things sorry won't go back.

we have been to this Indian restaurant, loads & loads of times for meals inside (which is only small) and takeaways. Over the years we have never has a bad meal. Food is always cooked lovely & I think anyone going to the Bay Leaf will never go anywhere else for an Indian meal.

The Bay Leaf is a small friendly Indian restaurant and the food is brilliant. We have been a few times and I would recommend it to my friends and family

The poppadoms and chutneys are good here and the food very decent. The service is friendly and prompt; so little to complain about, except the restaurant was nearly empty when we went. There were a lot of take-away customers, who obviously appreciate this place.

My friends and myself went for a birthday and it was a disaster, the food was ok and the service the same. A word of warning though if you are in a big group ask for your individual bill, then you know where you stand, if you have to query it. Also be aware your complimentary popadoms aren't we were charged £1.20 each ouch. So no surprise we shall not be returning.

I love the Bayleaf, its local to me so really handy but to be honest I would travell to the Bayleaf, lovely staff and the foor is brilliant

Had a takeaway meal from Bay Leaf last night. Chicken Lemon Grass, Pilau rice, and a Nan bread.The food was ready to collect within 20 minutes, the sauce was very unusual (to me anyway) and tasty. Just a shame that the rice was almost cold and had to be reheated in the microwave when I got home.Also the outside of the foil containers were drenched in 'saffronny' grease, which stains everything it comes into contact with!

Brilliant staff. Food fantastic. Lovely atmosphere. This is an Indian restaurant with a difference. The food has wonderful flavours and some beautiful Special indian recipes. Lovely experience
