Jaime opened the cafe so that we had somewhere to host a birthday party after a coasteering trip with Nick Thorne. The hot chocolates were just what a group of kids needed after being in the sea for 2 hours, and the pizzas and dough balls went down a storm. Jaime even made the birthday cake, which was spectacular! All the staff were great. Best party ever, thank you.

Lucky enough to have moved to the area in the last few months and often visit Hele Bay and Hillsborough with our dogs. The cafe is right by the beach and has an outdoor seating area. It is dog friendly inside as well. We stopped for coffee on our first visit to the beach and now we always pop in here. Friendly staff and absolutely fantastic coffee! Second to none and very reasonably priced. The menu looks great too with lots of non meat options. We will get around to trying it soon.

Great food. Cozy and dog friendly inside. Friendly staff. Great view outside as you are right opposite the beach. A visit to this cafe is a must if you are in the area. Hands down the best cream tea in Devon.

We were so impressed with this cafe. After a lovely couple of hours kayaking & paddle boarding in the bay, we were a bit peckish and were completely enticed by the menu! The food was even better than it sounded! We shared. Veggie chilli nachos, mushroom & garlic pizza and pulled pork loaded fries. All absolutely fresh & delicious. Gorgeous spot to sit outside with our dogs & people watch. Great service and good value for money. Will be back!!

Café overlooking Hele Bay, indoor and outdoor seating. Enjoyed lunch of jumbo fish finger sandwiches. Short walk from cheap car park. Staff friendly. Beach has a toy library. Believe you can go kayaking from here.

Can’t believe it was closed at 17.15, did not want to affect the reviews. Did have a fabulous pizza the other day, that’s why we came back before our journey home 😢

We had coffee and a fruit scone (with jam and cream of course) and my word, the fruit scone was easily the best I’ve ever had. Having lived locally all my life I’ve had many scones but this one was so tasty. The owner and staff were lovely and friendly and the atmosphere was really great. I will definitely be back! Thank you x

Great cafe with quick service with a smile! Beef cooler or Cornish pasty or soup with a warm scone to be recommended. Nicely decorated with a view of one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! Sadly not open every day of the week, so check first!

We love Hele Bay as it so dog-friendly but we're disappointed to see that as the Smashing Kraken, it was closed but delighted to find that it had reopened as the Bay Cafe. The new owners couldn't've been more helpful, offering to book a table for lunch for my wife's birthday if we were going to be delayed on ourc2.5 hour journey to visit them! The place has been spruced up somewhat, with a better outside under cover area and a nicely decorated interior. The shared sandwich was lovely and their chips are as good as Weatherspoons! They even gave my wife a complimentary slice of cake and sang Happy Birthday! We can't wait to return! Five stars.

Alex and Hannah, the owners, made you feel very welcome. Good choices on the menu The food was delicious. It's a small cafe, so sometimes you wait a little longer for the food to be prepared, but it wasn't long for us. If you're ever in Barnstaple, it's a lovely place to eat.

Visited at the end of March. Sadly disappointed with both main meals. I had monk fish with gnocchi and vegetables. Unfortunately the gnocchi and vegetables were overcooked. My husband had seafood tagliatelle pasta - the pasta portion was very small, and luke warm, mussels appeared small and less fish than expected. The food is expensive for the size of the portions, so it is particularly disappointing when not well cooked. Bottled beer expensive. Did not feel we could complain in such an intimate small environment.

Been coming to this part of Devon for nearly a decade and somehow never noticed this spot until now. What have I been missing all this time?! Honestly, some of the best coffee I’ve ever had. And their baked goods? Easily up there with the best you’ll find in North London.
