Bassleton's Fish Bar in Hambleton

We last visited in 2021 so a return visit to this lovely fish shop was long overdue.. Myself,sister and mam visiting Stokesley just wanted something small and quick to eat . I remembered said fishshop and it was exactly the same as our previous visit. Same obliging owner serving beautifully cooked fish and chips. Even making some requested scraps as there was none in the warmer and three complimentary cups tea as we sat outside in the sun. Thankyou so much and to the lovely server.

Great customer service… nice and clean inside and outside, and the best fish and chips that I’ve ever had, a place where you can sit down and wait for your meal

I regularly drive from Great Ayton to buy fish and chips here. Need I say more? The staff are friendly and the fish excellent.

Lunchtime pop in where we were presently surprised by the friendly and kind staff. The fish and chips were lovely as were the onion rings. It all felt so nice so we ate on the window counter. Looking forward to returning.

The best fish and chip shop around . lovely staff and consistently good fish and chips , go the extra mile .Almost don’t want to give this review as may get busier and then have longer to wait as always cooks to order so super fresh every time . Always lovely crispy batter and perfectly cooked chips .

In my opinion the best fish and chips shop in Stokesley. And the staff are so friendly we even get a free cuppa if we eat them there. Once I had trouble parking so phoned and they even brought them to my car.

Visited for takeaway tea for fam . Good service , friendly & helpful. Order taken and delivered out to car which was good. Everything cooked to order and all enjoyed .Special mention for the Fish Pattie and the fish cake , huge ! And made our (midlander) fish cakes look like a fish nugget ! Thanks

We called for an early take out Friday tea. Service and surroundings were good, but both fish and chips tasted as though they had been cooked some time earlier and were being kept warm.

Visited here while in the area, we had a good meal with the fish being Nicly cooked and a nice large size the chips also Nicly cooked and quite a large portion.All enjoyed the food with no waste only the empty boxes so we will return when next in the area during the summer.

The best fish and chips I've ever had, nobody does batter like here, it is the crispiest and not a bit greasy. Lovely golden chips too. Everything is cooked to order. They have the friendliest staff too. Our favourite place for Saturday lunch.

I orded a chicken parmersan , it was cooked to perfection everything about the place was nice .. staff very friendly and offered me a cup of tea why a waited for my food wich was only 10mins Garlic sauce 9/10Chips 9/10Salad 8/10Parmersan 10/10 I will be calling again thanks mr Peter buckton

Best fish and chips in the area. Staff are always so friendly, easy going and helpful. Free cup of tea or coffee if you sit in is also a nice touch. Big thumbs up to bassletons!

Whilst on holiday in the area, we decided on our first night to get a take away. Each of us went for something different. I chose to get some chips, and as we were in the take away next door decided just to pop in here.The shop was very busy with locals getting large orders (I am guessing they were locals as the staff knew them) so I took this as good sign.The shop was very clean and the staff friendly, so again took this as a good sign.However upon getting home and unwrapping the chips, I was presented with the most greasy and possibly worst chips I have ever had in my life. Needless to say they went straight into the bucket and that we did not venture back.Dinner in first night of holiday = toast.

And everything else we have eaten here. As far as we are concerned there is only one fish and chip shop in Stokesley and this is it xx. The traditional fish and chips are awesome it is like stepping back in time apart from no newspaper lol . We love the food the friendly staff, value for money, huge portions. We also regularly order the chicken Parmesan. We only ever get one between us as we couldn’t manage one each. Just go. You won’t be disappointed xx.

Fell onto the chip shop when travelling home on bank holiday Monday. Stopped for lunch and so glad we did. We had patty and chips with curry sauce and a cuppa tea with a bread bun to share. We sat on to eat and it was a very clean and customer oriented service. The food was amazing and the price was fair too. Recommend place to eat without any doubt or concerns, lovely staff and red hot food. Can’t beat it!

First time visit...was told about it by my partner....she loves the cheesy chips.....popped into Stokeley to get some bits and decided to get something there rather than cook.Very busy place and had to wait a while !!!.....but was it worth it !!!I had the 1/2 chicken Parmo with chips and salad for £5.50 and it beats all the restaurants that I have had it in before...cooked fresh to order it was more than enough.My partner had the cheesy chips which looked fabulous.Definitely a place to return to....

Often call in here on way home from Work. Great Fish Shop, staff are a great laugh, clean tidy and food is spot on. Prices are reasonable, and never have to wait long. Staff know what they're doing.

I was in stokesley and fancied some food. Not particularly looking for a fish shop. However it was the first place we came upon after parking our car. We just popped in to get a bag if chips each but ended up sitting in and ordering more including a nice cuppa

After reading the reviews I decided to give this place a try, ordered fish an chips and sat out side to tuck in.....sorely disappointed, the fat was dripping out of the fish when I bit into it, I had 2 bites and the rest went in the bin. Very disappointing.

Unscheduled call lunchtime, nice fish and chips,somewhere to sit outside in the sun and a mug of tea or coffee on the house.... Staff friendly and helpful

Called here just by chance as I happened to park right outside the shop,I was very pleased I did...the small piece of cod was perfectly cooked, with lovely golden crispy batter, and I was even offered a free cup of tea ! I will certainly return, next time I have a run out to Stokesley

Mi marido y yo hemos estado en este "fish and chips" varias veces. Esta vez me apetecía algo diferente a cod, así que tuve un pastel casero de pescado que estaba para morirse.

Normalmente buen pescado y patatas fritas, pero esta vez me decepcionaron como bandeja tenía un montón de grasa de las patatas fritas de pescado n.

7. Llamó a 55:00 nadie contestó intentado un par de veces y aun no me contesto. Esto no es la primera vez. Fuimos una noche a las 7. 45:00 a encontramos la puerta cerrada. La mejor manera de molestar a sus clientes es que cierran temprano. No nos molestó tratando nuevamente, aunque nos gusta la comida cuando podemos conseguir algunos.

Excellent. Haddock is a must. Best to ring and order. The parmo's are the best in stokesley. Always great value for money and very friendly staff

Even the parmesans are great but you can't beat their haddock and chips with mushy peas! Staff are so wonderful and friendly too; we love them!

Tasty fish and chips with no skimping on portion size. I'm not a huge fan of batter but this was so crisp, tasty and light and the quality of the fish was excellent. We will certainly be calling here again. Keep up the good work.

Comprobar - pescado y patatas fritas x6 ordenados y que estamos listos a tiempo, que superar las largas colas. Pescado muy sabroso, masa finas y ligeras para regular cod- fuimos, y eran enormes. Excelente calidad y buena relación calidad-precio.

We visited Stokesley on Friday for the market and we parked near this "Fish Bar". At around 11.15am we saw the tables and chairs outside and sat down. We were given a complimentary cup of tea as our order was been cooked. The cod and chips were brought out freshly cooked and the flavour and quality was superb. The staff are friendly and passionate about the business and the weather was so hot that the owner was threatening to wear a mankini. Is that not a reason to visit on it's own!

Hi ,the title says it all the bassletons has it all, super cod, go for the regular, more than enough and cooked superbly every time, food is cooked to order which ensure fresh well cooked and hot food, been lots of times and enjoyed thoroughly each time, super value for money, never mind them overpriced fish n chips in whitby the bassletons knocks spots off them, give it a try you won't be disappointed, a family concern with mama running the show,and the daughters doing as they are told, haha joking aside all the staff are friendly polite and welcoming be back soon

Fantastic chippy. We called off in Stokesley on way to watch West Bromwich Albion play at Middlesbrough. We all had Haddock and Chips (a bargain at £6). Freshly cooked while we waited.The staff were very friendly and made us welcome.Also, lovely brew pub (White Swan, home of Captain Cook Brewery) across the road.Will definitely call into to Stokesley again when traveling north.

tried this chip shop for the first time following an appointment in Stokesly. Sent the husband in, as you do, whilst i sat in the car keeping warm.... Arrived home to hot, super sized cod, very nice chips and a nice curry sauce. Husband said the people were great and were particularly nice to a young girl who was being served. We will be back, well worth the drive from Nunthorpe.

Had a lovely cod with a portion of peas.....Being healthy, it was nice as usual, good size piece of fish for the regular size and if you really need to scran up go large as it's a massive piece of fish of your choice, sometimes get the haddock which is equally as nice, all-round good local chippy, friendly staff, clean shop and a fair price....."Whin da boat comes in"

This is one of our favourite takeaways in Stokesley. We have always found them very good value for money. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful.

Had the fish n chips from here and they are good, the family got the parmo's and they good size and nice and tasty, good friendly staff and even a small breakfast bar area to eat in if you want, well worth a visit

Ordered fish and chips for the first time here last night. The fish was huge and was freshly cooked and tasted lovely, especially the battered. The chips were very oily and I didn't finished them due to the amount of oil. But I will return in the future.

Had fish n chips from here a few times and they are lovely, friends and family have the chicken parmo's and they massive, good takeaway quality, good staff and a small eat in area, nice a regular visit.

Fabulous food , friendly and welcoming staff , my partner ordered the large cod , I ordered the regular cod , my daughter ordered the Parmesan and my son the cheeseburger , whilst waiting for our food being freshly cooked we were offered a cup of tea which was a nice touch , when we got home we couldn't believe how big the portions were and still warm , my daughter could only manage half of the Parmesan as it was huge but extremely tasty , the fish was so white and tasty and my boy eat all of his burger which was a 100% beef , I can't believe how tasty the good was and I will be going back on a weekly treat basis , keep up the good work , best food we have tasted in a long time

My husband and I are originally from this area but moved to Lincolnshire 2years ago.We where visiting family on Monday 10th October and didn't arrive till late on afternoon and really fancied a parmesan. We read reviews of Bassletons fish bar so thought we'd give it a try..., so glad we did, parmesan was excellent, chips amazing!! The staff where very friendly and the place was spotless. Thanks ladies, definitely call again next time we're up North 10/10

We love the haddock at this fish bar. Although the other fish and chip shop also do haddock, its always a lot smaller and meaner, and less appetising, lookingMy young daughter loves the staff here, and I can understand why - they are so lovely and friendly, always making us feel welcome. They only do takeaway which suits us fine.Not sure I like the chips in a polystyrene container - by the time we get home, they're a bit sweaty. However, the other fish and chip shop also uses so there's little choice.

Called here whilst passing through Stokesley on a Thursday teatime. I opted for the large cod n chips which were absolutely beautiful, cooked to perfection in beef dripping (the proper way) My partner had a standard size cod n chips which she struggled to finish as the portions are so big. She too said it was the best tasting fish she'd had in years. The kids had sausage n chips meal box specials. All in all we had a fantastic takeaway at a very very reasonable price. Can't recommend it highly enough. Will defo call again soonP.s. When we were waiting in the Q we got chatting to a regular customer who said the parmos were to die for. I may give one of these a try next visit but it'll be hard not to order a large cod again it was that good

This is the best tasting fish shop I have ever had , went this week and thoroughly enjoyed every bite , the best part is that you can even sit on the front in the sun or inside on the breakfast bar , the fish was great quality and very white and so tasty , I will be hoping to return to this place on a weekly basis , well done !

We have been patrons of this place since opening in 2014 and have never been disappointed. Every item on the menu is fresh and tasty. The owners and staff are friendly and capable, delivering quality food at a good price. What's not to like. We love the large parmo. Fit for a King size appetite. We never manage to finish it and only get one between two. See you soon. X

Since this shop opened its kept up its high standards. Fish n chips are as tasty as ever and the curry sauce is yummy. The shop is spotlessly clean and the staff always friendly, wouldn't consider going anywhere else. Keep up the good work.

Bassletons on stokesley high street serve the best fish and chips. We go nearly every Friday and can 100% recommend you go there. Fantastic, friendly staff and fantastic service. Fish and chips to die for!!

Just been visiting friends in Stokesley when we passed this place. My friend goes quite often and said it was fab. After ordering fish n chips (fish cooked on order) must say it was fantasic. Friendly staff n food was fab.

Visited tonight it was beautiful, The fish was crisp and Lilly white , it was by far the best fish and chips iv had. The kids really enjoyed it too. Will definatly be back

I visted bassletons fish shop earlyer in the week had fish an chips was alot better than my usual chip shop I go to in whitby I will be visiting this place alot more very frendly staff also I recommend this chippy to any one who loves quality fish and chips

Last Thursday I visited Stokesley for only the 2nd time, I decided to have my lunch there. I did a search and chose this fish and chip shop. I was expecting a restaurant but as they had eating places inside I bought fish and chips. Oh boy did I did the right thing. They were up there with the best fish and chips I have ever had (I am 70 so have tried quite a few) and a lot less in cost from some places. I even ate the batter, I usually peel the batter off leave it and eat the fish. The 2 employees were pleasant and efficient. I even got my coffee in a "real" mug instead of a take out cup. If I ever have to visit Stokesley again I know where I will be eating. Mr or Mrs owner your employees were a credit to you. I have had to mark down on the restaurant question as it not a restaurant but as a take out it could cope with groups and families.

We really enjoy Samantha's delicious fish and chips. The fish bar is clean and decorated nicely, great for eat in or take out!

Fish and chips are the best by far service very quick and efficient..opening hours are flexable .premises are very clean

The food was hot, tasty and exactly what I asked for. The meal was cooked to orderso a small wait but well worth it. Chairs are provided for you to sit on while you wait. A television is on the wall for you to view to pass the time. The staff are very friendly and polite, overall a great place to go and value for money.

It was a brave move Dave and his partner made moving from Thornaby to Stokesley, We called in for fish and chips and the quality has not altered, the portion is as large as it ever was, even the regular fish is a effort to get through, Its best some times to get the small chips with a large fish, as for his hand made fish cakes they are the tastiest around, not the small factory made disc as some other shop's sell in the area, more like a tennis ball, with black pepper, Proper chips done in the shop not bought in, fried in lard not oil, the good old fashioned way,Lightly battered the fish has more taste so ring first and they will be done when you call in,Dave sources his fish with care and it shows in the taste, Alan

Dave and his team churn out fish and chips through the day. Now they're open 7 days a week (unlike most similar chippies). Their staff are friendly and the food is good. We've had their battered fish serveral time. The fish has always been good quality and hot, the batter has been crispy and not too thick like in other places. I've also had their battered sausage. Although the sausage wasn't to my liking the batter was as good as ever.

It is great that everything is cooked to order as the food is piping hot and fresh. Well worth the 10 minute wait. The portions are large and the parmo defeated me but it defiantly wasn't wasted and was saved for lunch the next day. The staff were polite and the young girl offered to open the door when my hands were full. Will definitely return

The food at this place is lovely. It's not greasy and you get the proper taste of your fish. It does get busy as its so popular, but it's worth the wait if you are in a queue. The staff are freindly and you can have a laugh with them too

My husband and I stopped for fish and chips due to recommendations off friends and we loved it. Staff are friendly and the shop has a lovely atmosphere.we ate in the shop and were made a nice cup of tea.My husband ordered a hot shot Parma for supper the following week it was the best we have ever had.

As this is my local chippy thought i better mention them. The best fish and chips in the north east excellent. Food is always fresh and hot with generous portions golden batter cooked to perfection. Service with a laugh and a smile. This shop has only been here a few months but dave and sam who own it have certainly made there mark. Keep up the good work guys your doing great.

Finally a chippie with proper white tasty fish...bit to much batter for me but that's my preference. ...huge portion and that was the regular....Super fresh chips all served in a tray. Others have commented on the wait but would rather that and get fresh hot food than soggy food that's been stood on pans for ages....we will definitely be back. Thank you

Excellent fish & chips, cooked to order so very fresh, three choices of portion size: small (medium), regular (large) and large (enormous), nice brown chips, not too fat or flabby, perfectly-cooked fish, good choice of other dishes, although haven't tried anything other than fish & chips so far. Very good value too! Been several times now & always been superb.The staff are welcoming & friendly, the place is nice & clean with no nasty frying smell. A real asset to the High Street.

Called here for a quick fish and chip supper!! Not so quick as everything is cooked to order. The standard portion was very large and too much for one person even with a healthy appetite.

All I can say is this is the best fish and chips I have had in years. The fish was amazing. I was only passing through but i will be making sure I pass again. Highly recommend, I've already recommended you to my friends

After being highly recommended by a friend I tried Bassleton's fish bar and it totally lived up to my expectations. It serves top quality fish and chips whilst offering superb service. I will be back for sure!!

Popped in for a quick bite to eat with a few of the lads and was very impressed. Being from a seaside town I have been brought up on fish chips, and the cod here was up there with the best off them.Great food and friendly staff, would definitely recommend.

Fantastic new shop on the high street, ordered chicken Parmesan , great size, thick chicken fillet, a generous smothering of bechemel sauce and topped with a high quality cheese, the salad was fresh,crisp and delicious, the chips where very good, I would highly recommend this shop for a high quality service, fantastic food at a great price

Tried new fish shop in Stokesley, really disappointed.found chips to be soggy and fish grey and watery, so won't be going again. The shop was busy on a Saturday tea-time so quick turnover of fish and chips and would have expected food to be fresher.will go back to the Diner in Stokesley for our fish and chips in future.
