As a wedding venue this place is amazing. The food, setting, everything for the wedding was perfect. We have a really lovely day. Our problem was the rooms. We had room 4 which has no window to the outside. There is a frosted window to a corridor. No air conditioning or ventilation and a small double bed. This was just horrendous, we got a taxi back to Bolton at 1.30am as we couldn’t sleep. Several of the rooms are the same with no window to the outside. I’m abit claustrophobic so this was just awful. The room needs a king size bed and at least a fan / air conditioning.

I was at my nieces wedding and I have to say WOW the views are spectacular and just what you’d want to see in your photo album and the food was amazing, compliments to the chef and team. BUT that were it end! When we arrived with our over night bags there was no reception area to help with check in or ongoing information. Before the wedding got underway I asked how do we gain access to our rooms but was told we couldn’t book in until 15:30. The wedding was at 13:30 and I would have liked the opportunity to freshen up after such a long drive. After the ceremony and the wedding breakfast (18:45) I ask again “can we check in and what room” I was told a number and a code to a box that contained the room key just at the side of our door, so no official check in process. Given the double room had cost £200 I was completely disappointed when stepping inside. There was a tin roof and stone flooring, and it was freezing, nobody had considered tuning on the heating to warm up the room in preparation of receiving guests. We popped our bags in turned on the radiator and headed back to join in the celebrations. When going back to the room, it was still very very cold but it was late and time for bed. In the early hours of the morning I attempted to turn on the radiator again but to no avail, it wasn’t working, and the room was freezing. The following morning at approximately 7:30 I went to see where and what time breakfast would be served and if there was somewhere warm to sit but was told by the domestic staff that it was “probably “ about 9-9:30 when breakfast would be ready and they where in the middle of cleaning the area, so off I went back to my freezing cold room. At 9:30 we presented for breakfast. The hash browns were greasy and the “streaky” bacon well over cooked. As we spoke to other members of the family it would seem they also had no heating in there rooms either. When I did mention this to a member of staff I was informed that “the radiators have a temperature thermostat” which I explained didn’t help because it didn’t actually work! Half way through breakfast a young lady came and asked if we had placed our key in the box, quite bewildered I questioned what she’d asked. I was informed that check out was at 09:30 and could I please place the key in the box now. I explained that, given we were never given an opportunity to “CHECK IN” and not told about the heating system or what time breakfast would be served, it would be fair to say on our part that “CHECK OUT” had not been explained either and that we still needed to pack our belongings! A taxi to a local guest house would have been a better option but we had no foresight pre booking our room. You live and learn.

Came for a family wedding. The views are unbelievable, the building is a beautiful place to have a wedding with a very rustic feel. The staff were lovely and smiley, with the only downside being how cold it was. The firepit outside brought a lovely relief from the cold and was kept stoked well past 11pm

Bashall Barn had become a popular place for lunches at attractive prices in a superbly picturesque location outside Clitheroe. Sadly for most of us, it has now changed exclusively to a weddings venue and is no longer offering meals to passers-by. You can now only enjoy this place if you are attending a wedding. Quite a loss for the rest of us!

Went to a wedding reception here - food was the worst I have ever had at a wedding reception, the starter was unrecognisable, for the main meal meat was tough, potatoes badly cooked, desert clearly bought in no tea or coffee, one of thewaitresses was rude to us and when we complained about the quality of the food one waitress just smiled at us!! Setting lovely and views amazing. if you book your wedding here get your own caterers in!

We were attracted by the barn / country setting, well signposted from local lanes. The gift shop is amazing, so many unusual gifts to buy, bottles of pickles and sauces, greetings cards, all sorts of well-chosen basketware etc. We spent a lot of money, ahead of Christmas. Also went into the cafe / restaurant area. As it was mid-afternoon we just had their lovely scones and jam and cream. Everywhere is spotless, all (friendly) staff duly masked and track-and-trace in operation. Toilets immaculate. They take it all seriously. Big car park outside. We were mightily impressed overall and would visit again.

Beautiful setting and was really happy to discover they do a vegan breakfast. Unfortunately everything was just really bland. The smashed avocado wasn’t seasoned at all, the chickpea sausages were pretty tasteless...overall everything just needed some seasoning. Friendly and helpful staff though.

We usually have a meal here at least once a month and have had some have been brilliant. However today was short of the standard we have come to expect and I think we will be going elsewhere next time. The salad barrow was something at least one of us had every time we visited, good quality, large portion of fresh salad; not anymore STOPPED. I decided to go for burger instead without cheese. When it came there was a burger and a small dish of chips, the chips were not even level with the top of the dish. I asked the waitress is this a full portion of chips, giving her the hint that I was not happy, she replied it was and walked off. Not sure if this is getting petty but i then counted the chips and there was the equivalent (some small pieces) of 8 about 3 inches long. When I checked the burger it was small and had a piece missing. I didn't want to complain further so ate my burger and we left without bothering with the usual coffee/ice cream. I decided to check the menu before I wrote this review and so that I should have had Coleshaw as well - No missing. Come on get back to the quality of food you used to provide

We used to visit here before the expansion, when it was excellent and a very homely, good-feel place but now, it is awful. We went for an 'afternoon tea' at 1510, to be told there's none done after 150011!!!!! What on Earth is an afternoon tea, if it isn't in the afternoon? Rude and discouretous staff, cold atmosphere, sterile looking and no charm at all. They shouldn't have changed it so much. Will definitley NOT be revisiting or recommending to anyone.

Arrived Saturday day lunchtime for a light lunch/snack. We were asked to choose a table but then waited at least ten minutes, probably more like fifteen, no menus were supplied despite staff walking past our table. Eventually we left and despite walking past staff no one sought to retain our custom, suspect they were happy they didn't have any more customers to serve. Won't be back.

Fab food fab staff fab location . The reason I have given a 4 star is because some people came in with dogs (which is fine) but the owners let’s the dogs sit on the chairs and weren’t told to take them off . I’d hate to think that the next person sitting in that chair had to sit where a dog had been sat , that was disappointing in my opinion that they weren’t asked to sit them on the floor, otherwise brilliant lunch out

Although the staff are lovely, we waited quite some time for our chicken burgers to arrive. It wasn’t even that busy. Despite this, the burgers were delicious as were the chips. I just wish they had more variety on the menu... there was only a few things listed.

The food has gone downhill now. Feel they are just interested in the wedding business. Terrible lunch today it was just basic food served badly with no flair or real interest in how it looked or tasted. Staff used to be fabulous now they don’t seem to know the menus or anything about the food. We have been going there for years and years but we just won’t go back again now. I appears all the energy of the business is focussed around the weddings and events which is fair enough but why now just shut the restaurant and the shop (which has also gone downhill) and focus on the events. Very disappointing.

First time visit here, to attend family Wedding, on an August day, when it never stopped raining. The venue is situated in a small Hamlet about 10/15 mins drive from the centre of Clitheroe, reached down some narrow country lanes, though reasonably well signed from Clitheroe. There is a large car park across the road from the venue, unfortunately not very well surfaced, and because of the foul weather, our shoes were well covered in mud and cinders, by the time we made it inside. I gather that when not used for Weddings and functions, the venue is a Restaurant, with a bar,ice cream parlour, coffee shop and a couple of other retail franchises, but non were operating on the day of the wedding. The ceremony itself takes place in a decent sized room at the rear of the property, which in effect is quite an extensive large Barn conversion. There are huge windows looking out over the Ribble Valley, to a distant hill, which on a nice day, must create a beautiful view. Unfortunately today everything was wet, dismal and covered in cloud. There is also a large verandah outside which would be perfect for photos and mingling, but not today. The ceremony was well organised by the Barn staff, we were served drinks, on arrival and then drinks and canapes after, all done very professionally. The wedding Breakfast was held in a large room at the centre of the complex, and once again, excellent service and well organised. Tables all laid out nicely. For the evening we used the bar area at the front of the complex, which also included a dance floor. Our overall impression of the venue was that it was decorated in a shabby chic style, which obviously would appeal to a young couple like the Bride & Groom, and certainly as a Wedding Venue, it passed the test with flying colours As a Restaurant to drive out to in the depths of winter, I reserve judgement. Nevertheless we had a lovely day, despite the weather

It’s a great venue and usually the ice cream is excellent but I was a bit disappointed in the ice cream. I wonder if the fabled vanilla shortage has hit the ice cream parlour as the vanilla tasted a bit artificial. The ice cream was nice and smooth but the taste wasn’t as good as usual. It’s a nice place to visit and the outdoor seating area is a big draw on a summers day.

Mum fancied a change and it’s ages since we’ve visited this place. We won’t be returning! Much quieter than we remember. Quite a long walk from the door to a table for anyone with mobility issues. Mum had the Rag Pudding and enjoyed every mouthful. I had the hoisin duck pancakes, they were fine. He had the Lancashire hotpot - awful - meat like rubber and with one of those awful ‘tubes’ that remind me of liver from school dinners of years ago. We expected the lamb to be well cooked, succulent and lean - is that too much to ask? in Lancashire? To be fair the staff didn’t argue, the young man took it away and replaced it with a second choice from the menu, a quiche salad that was ‘adequate ‘. We won’t be back.

From the very first day of booking the venue to the day itself, the team at Bashall could not have been more helpful and professional and at the same time really warm. My wife and I booked Bashall before the Brook room was even completed but Cath showed us the plans and the feel of the venue even then, and her confidence in the fantastic things to come made us feel totally at ease - we knew this was the venue for us. As we moved forward with planning Robyn became our wedding coordinator and she was equally lovely and really clear on any questions we had on the run up to our big day. When the day came the team organising the day's events just made everything run so smoothly, my wife and I didn't have to ask for anything and the day just flowed without issue. The place looks beautiful, the food is great with big portions and the way the staff look after you is all you could ever ask for. I took a family member for lunch here on a recommendation so wasn’t sure what to expect. Total confusion on arrival as there seems to be a cafe area and a restaurant area but neither is clearly signposted or lineated. None of the staff approached us so we headed to the more formal looking area and were seated. A look at the menu left us struggling at it was limited and more evening type meals than lunch items. There was a large salad bar but it wasn’t clear what this came with or was included with. After about 15 minutes of being ignored I went to the drinks bar and placed an order for 2 x salmon fillet. It was slow service but was really quite nice when it came, though not a large potion. We waited around after eating but nobody ever came back so eventually I went and asked to pay at the bar once again. The bill was £30 which is considerably more than i would pay for a light lunch. Perfectly nice food but expensive for what it was and service wasn’t the best. I wouldn’t visit again based on this but appreciate if you understand what’s going on you may fare better as it’s a lovely place with a nice little shop attached selling deli type things and some gifts.

Foo came but no drinks, girl said not her fault and indicated grumpy man behind bar who grudgingly brought them over. This was a huge disappointment and I won't be rushing back - such a shame.

I took my family over for afternoon lunch, I found the food was excellent and the service was attentive and polite. My children loved the ice creams afterwards.

Have known Bashall Barn for many years but recent visits have been increasingly disappointing. Called in on Saturday afternoon, only 5 or 6 occupied tables so easily found a seat in the café but I may as well have been invisible to the 7 members of staff. There were no menus on any of the tables in the main café, so expected a member of staff would bring one over. They leisurely cleared tables, wiped tables, replenished the salad bar, served at the bar, took payments, and chatted between themselves but no one acknowledged me or offered a menu. After ten minutes I made a point of watching and waiting to see how long it would take .......... after twenty minutes I left.

It's not usually for a country cafe/restaurant to have rude staff. We visit many on our travels and although this is a really nice building with lots of gifts, food, arts, the restaurant is a let down.

Went for Afternoon Tea very disappointed not much on there at all! There were 3 triangles of sandwiches each not even a full sandwich each. No meat on sandwiches we had already said didnt want prawns or tuna so we were given salmon, cheese & egg mayo. One slice of pork pie. Cakes were okay but given something sloppy in a cup not nice at all tasted sour. All in all poor value for money. We had a gift voucher glad we hadnt paid for it as i would have complained. What should have been a nice treat for me and my sister turned out to be a real let down.

Went for breakfast, asked if we could sit anywhere and waiter said yes. Found a table for two and waited, and waited, and waited. 6 staff visible and not particularly busy, after 15 minutes still had not been asked if we wanted a drink. Decided at this point to leave. Still not acknowledged by anyone.

I visited here with my mum and 19 month daughter for lunch. Whilst food was good (especially the creme brulee), service was shocking. The table next to us, who had arrived after us, got served before us. After we'd eaten we sat for a long time with dirty plates and a toddler wanting to grab everything off of said plates. When we asked someone to clear our table instead of them picking up the plates themselves, they went any asked someone else to do it! We wanted to order desserts but no one offered us dessert menus, we had to ask for them. Then, we had to chase someone to actually take our order. Never has it been so hard to spend our money somewhere. If the food hadn't been as good then this would've been a 1 star review.

We popped in to the Barn for a spot of lunch and were kept waiting several minutes just to be seated. All of us ordered sandwiches, I had the hot beef which was very tasty with plenty of meat and was served with chips and a bit of salad. When asked what we would like to drink, two of us asked for squash. Considering we were a group of adults, I was very surprised to be handed a childrens drink served in a plastic bottle. Now Im sure a young child would have been fine with this but I expect my drinks to be served in a glass. Im not sure why the staff thought this was acceptable. Anyway, The Barn certainly isnt cheap, but the rest of the menu looked tempting so I will probably pay another visit. Just dont order the squash unless you are a child lol

Popped in today mid morning for a coffee but couldn't resist a scone as I've had them many times before and they are just the best. Straight out of the oven today too!! Lovely relaxing place and a nice shop to browse in on the way out. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Lovely staff too :)

Oh My..! Utterly wonderful. I'd booked this as a surprise for my partner, he was very impressed. Everything was hand-made & utterly delicious. The milkshakes were the best I've tasted. Would I recommend - definitely, would I visit again - without a doubt!

Food menu is basic, the same we could say about quality. Lots of badly trained kids serving people. Even the manager was cutting the bread touching it with her hands not covering with the soviet. Touching money and dirty plates prior to it. The same at ice cream parlour. Cornet was passed without napkin. Please do hire people who knows basic hygiene and if you have chosen to employ kids- train them appropriately. Was looking forward to visit, it was disappointing.

Visited with husband on a Monday afternoon. The farm shop has some interesting produce and is not as overpriced as some can be. We bought some of their handmade chocolates which were delicious especially the mango caramel.

It's been a couple of years since eating here. There were a few changes most noticeably there is no longer a viewing window into the animal stalls. The food still represented great value at around £14 for 2 courses. The place was very quiet with only 3-4 tables occupied whilst we had lunch. Decent quality food do it was a shame it wasn't so busy.

My wife and I thought we would have a healthy Friday lunch out at one of Lancashire's top eateries While the fix price lunch offer great value for money this restaurant also offers a fantastic salad bar with a dedicated section on the main menu.My wife had the roast beef salad £10.95 and I had the hot steak salad at £13.95 a small salad and bread comes with the dishes and you have also the choice of the extensive range on the salad bar and you cannot be disappointed with the effort taken to tempt people away from chips and veg option Highly recommended If you want a change from the normal Friday lunch and want a healthy option then try out this offering I always Ind the staff polite and obliging in the efforts to look after us and intend to support this business on a regular basis

Stunning location and beautiful, well designed place...However, with such a wealth of fantastic places to eat in the area, Bashall Barn cannot rely on the breathtaking views to encourage locals to return. Service was absolutely shoddy - there appeared to be very little organisation and we had to repeatedly ask for service. Food was disappointing - 'fresh' soup tasted distinctly tinned and was exceptionally overpriced. This place could so easily be so great with better management.

My daughter and son in law booked Bashall Barn for their wedding and what a venue!! The views are stunning, the venue is beautifully decorated, the food is faultless and the staff are wonderful! There isn't o e thing I could say wrong, the whole place is spotless - apart from the cow shed, but the cows are happy and to be to honest even here was clean The whole day was amazing and a lot if that was due to the team at Bashall Barn, so from one very happy mum THANKYOU

Beautiful setting - if you can get a window seat the view is stunning. The menu is varied and seasonal and has gluten free options marked on the menu and the chef is great at adapting dishes to suit someone with allergies. The chocolate cake - gluten free - is simply amazing! Great for coffee and cake or lunch!

Have visited the Farm Shop on numerous occasions, but, never eaten here, so decided to give it a try. We were seated without a problem and menus handed to us. Decent choice, but we did note that the prices were a little 'high'. I opted for the Tuna/cheese/onion melt which came with a small portion of 'triple cooked chips' and a small side salad. Sandwich was average and the chips simply tasted of frozen chips. Paid £8.95. My husband had the Rag pudding with again the said 'triple cooked chips'. Said it was a bit heavy and from what I could see was a bit mean with the mince meat. Small portion of chips and a ramekin of mushy peas. Think it was £11.95. Staff were attentive , but, I don't like people 'hovering' every time I set my fork down to take a little 'break '. Will we return.... I doubt it.

We were hoping for afternoon tea, but hadn't realised we needed to have pre booked. The restaurant manager told us they couldn't accommodate us due to not having pre booked, explaining they do 50 to 100 afternoon teas a week. At this point we expected him to extol the virtues of all the alternative menu choices available, and if he had welcomed us in this way we would have stayed and ordered a savoury snack followed by a sweet treat. Neither the restaurant or cafe were exceptionally busy so there was no excuse for his total disinterest.End result - we left to give our custom elsewhere - the afternoon tea at Boundary Mill is consistently wonderful, good value, imaginative, and served by friendly welcoming staff!

Spent an evening here with some friends, staying elsewhere. First up, it's uphill, and I mean uphill, to get here but the views and the service were easily worth it. Kaitlyn (really hope I remembered this right) properly looked after us. Thank you.

My wife and I came across this quaint tea shop quite by chance, as it is on the outskirts of the village and laid back from the road behind a small cobbled forecourt. On entering we found it contained eight tables and quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. We ordered coffees and sandwiches which were made to order and absolutely delicious.I shall definitely return and tell my friends about it.Im not certain of the opening hours,so will need to check before I return.I thoroughly recommend it.

Great food, great service, reasonably priced. Would recommend. I ordered the ox cheek pie and husband ordered the fish and chips which were both lovely, being really picky the mash were a bit on the dry side, but I would still recommend.

This was not our first visit to the Calf’s Head but it has to be the best meal we have ever had. It was a large family gathering and despite the size of the party the service was friendly and efficient. Looking forward to a return visit, hopefully not in the too distant future.

I tried to order a full English breakfast without a few items and they wouldn’t swap me anything and tried charging me a extra 1.50 so I thought man 10er for my breakfast that’s a bit steep . So just got bacon and sausage baton and I got one bacon one sausage for 5.50 and to top it off it was cold and chippy sausage. Joke off a place will not be going again . And there is dogs running around in the kitchen
