Bartons Yard in Carlisle

My first visit to The Halston to celebrate two friends big birthdays. We'd pre booked and reserved a table a while ago, as it's very popular. We were at the Bartons Yard end of the hotel. Entrance was via reception to ensure that those people having afternoon tea were not disturbed by hotel and bar footfall. The staff were superb and very helpful. They were also very thorough, ensuring there were no allergies. It was a Festive themed afternoon tea. We started with finger sandwiches and soup, followed by sweet and savoury mini treats. Tea and coffee were included, with fizz as an optional extra. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the ample offerings. The presentation and attention to detail were exquisite. We finished off with drinks in the hotels Penny Blue Restaurant. I would definitely consider attending again. If there's a member of your group with allergies or the menu is just not their bag, discuss other options so you don't feel as though you have to miss out. You will be accommodated. There are good facilities at the hotel, and it's accessible. There's a car park next to the hotel £1 per hour, pay on departure, so no clock watching. The hotel is also only a few minutes' walk from the bus station, railway station and various routes bus stops.

Fantastic staff, delicious breakfast, gluten free bread, dog friendly, a great way to start the morning.

Recommend the cappuccino and croissant. Dining companion had the William Barton and enjoyed. Very good experience overall.

A pleasant place to have breakfast and drinks in Carlisle. Friendly and kind stuff available to assist on your requirements!! Ennija was very kind to help me get some breakfast away for my colleagues and they were prepared at an exact time i requested!

I have been popping in recently for breakfast with my new born son, as a little haven in Carlisle that makes me feel like I’m in London. I have been made to feel so welcome and with service that is impeccable, Cristina goes out of her way to make me feel comfortable with my baby and it really makes it a five ⭐️ for me. Thank you.

Lovely dog friendly cafe - the server brought out a bowl of water for my dog on his own accord, which was greatly appreciated! The Christmassy turkey sandwich was delicious as was the poached eggs and avocado. No pictures of the food but the cleaned empty plates must say something!

Always a lovely experience, the food is delicious, the service is lovely and we always have a great time!

Loved this spot for a coffee and a gossip. The service was really good and so was the food and the atmosphere. Highly recommended

Walked in for a breakfast. Was not acknowledged by any member of staff so had to ask if we just find a table to sit, the waitress just said yeah. So we sat down, after 10 mins of being sat down not one member staff acknowledged or handed us a menu so just left. Poor service

I stayed at The Halston and decided to grab breakfast at Barton’s Yard. I was surprised at how inexpensive the food was when reading the menu. I decided on the full English and can safely say it is the best I’ve ever had. Everything was outstanding and used with top quality produce. Service and vibe was amazing too. 10/10

I picked this place as it was mentioned as dog friendly. Walked in and checked and was told 'we love dogs here' by a lovely lady. Ordered a latte and even before it arrived the dog was given bowl of water. Coffee arrived and I ordered a bacon and sausage roll. That quickly arrived, thankfully, before I finished my coffee. Roll was absolutely lovely. The staff are smart, polite and very efficient, and I wouldn't hesitate to go there again.

We came today for afternoon tea and omg what an amazing place really clean very friendly staff and the food omg gorgeous we will definitely be back thank you bartons yard.

Came here because they are dog friendly and as it was a Friday evening, not many places excepted dogs in their establishment! Very pleasant cheery staff. We wanted to get something to eat but the manager said to go next door for food, dogs are welcome there too.....fab we thought....but unfortunately 😔 all the tables were fully booked!! Would of been helpful to of told us that information too

Came here today for lunch . Food was exceptional and for the quality, it's very reasonably priced. We had 3 soft drinks and a tea . A flat iron steak baguette and chips. Soup and a flat iron baguette. It amounted to just under 30 pounds 💷 . Good atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. Will definitely return and would highly recommend.. I saw a couple having a afternoon tea ,that looked awesome 👌

Poor afternoon tea. Was a voucher from Xmas and were excited to go. Booked over the phone 4 days prior and women on phone was lovely which made us more excited as heard how good its MEANT to be. How wrong. Turned up and straight away we knew wasn't going to be a pleasant visit, they were not expecting us as no table was setup and staff look confused. The young waitress sorted a table and sat us down. She asked what drinks we wanted but thinking the food would take a bit to come we just got our champagne to start. Food turned up within 2 mins so clearly all ready in back which showed as some of the bread was stale. No choice in sandwiches which was a shame as I left 2 as didn't like them. Upon eating we had nobody come ask if we wanted our hot drinks or if all was OK. We waited 20 minutes before going to bar to ask for our hot drinks. They came but no milk so I had to go to bar yet again. What appeared to be 2 managers behind the bar 1 male and 1 female were shocking and both miserable not once did they approach us. Upon going to bar as we finished the male took the voucher and basically said that's it, no was everything OK. My wife complained about the service but feel it fell on death ears. So thanks for spoiling our experience that we were looking forward too. Won't be back.

If looking for somewhere warm and inviting in Warwick Road then Bartons Yard is worth a visit. Started (February 2019) monthly Friday night music night.

Fantastic food, great vegan options and brilliant staff.

Took ages for the breakfast to arrive...over 40mins for basically what was poached eggs on a muffin and then the bacon was missing. Waited over 20mins for a bagel with cheese only to be told they'd run out of cheese. Not great service, but food that did arrive was tasty when it finally did!

Would have liked a cocktail but was told at the least a ten minute wait as they were busy settled for a vodka not that there was much choice there music blasting could hardly hear any conversation

Often go to the bartons yard to have business lunches and find the service and the food really good for entertaining clients. One of the best spots in carlisle to do this at based on my experience. Tip: get the #eggsbenedict it's a must.

Impressive addition to the Carlisle social scene. Already building up a very good atmosphere and has got the balance between drinkers only and diners spot on.

Excellent menu and staff, we choose tapas and as usual ordered to much, the only thing we did not enjoy was the pickled onion rings, but hey we had to try!

I go here all the time for business meetings. They serve Bruce and Lukes coffee, and it's always delicious. They have also recently started to do Unicorn Tears Gin, which I tried last time I was in!
