This place was great! It's apparently the oldest Sichuan restaurant in London, and it has aged well. We wanted to order absolutely everything, but managed to restrain ourselves to just 4 dishes - fish flavour aubergine, cumin lamb, the chilli chicken you can see (can't remember the exact name), and the hotpot with luncheon meat (also not the exact name). Everything was great, definitely too much food for 2 people but they happily gave us boxes to take it away. The flavour was amazing - the balance of flavour was fantastic, and the staff checked with us on the spice level (we asked for spicy!). Overall I would happily recommend this place, and will return. Thanks to Rollindeep on tiktok for the recommendation!

Lightning protection, this restaurant's unique garlic white meat is worse than garlic carrots. That fish fillet soup is better said to be dead fish carcass soup. At the same time, if you bring your own drinks, the clerk will tell you to charge 1 pound/person after you place your order.

It was so bad. I didn't even take a sip of Heytea and still had to pay a pound for the service. They only told me this after I ordered. If they had said it earlier, I wouldn't have come in. The fish slices were very fishy and the garlic mud white meat wasn't good either. I didn't see any meat, it was all carrots.

Great place, great food, we found it walking around soho, and looked through to see this amazing looking food, they gave us a table for 2 although they were busy we didn’t wait, bit of a strange order system, they gave us sheets to tick the boxes for what we wanted but didn’t explain it to us Anyway we sorted it very fast, the waitress was very helpful and friendly, the food came out nice and quick, and was very fresh and hot, some of the dishes coming out for bigger tables looked fantastic, we had beer, hot sake and plenty of very nice dishes ourselves, no complaints at all, we will be returning in a couple of weeks for certain, thank you

It's very unpalatable. The fish is smaller than a palm. It's hard and small. It's impossible to eat. Does anyone know? I've eaten here many times before and never encountered this situation! After sitting down, I asked for water three times, but I turned a blind eye to the first two times. If I wanted to complain to the staff, I just said there was no foreman! Who knows?

The tastiest Chinese I've ever had. Extensive menu includes many regional cuisines like Schezuanese and Taiwanese, but I'd say the menu was so long, almost too long. The customer service was excellent, really friendly waitors and waitresses, and the atmosphere was so nice. I'd say it was all a little too expensive, however I think it was worth it (once in a while).

Excellent Sichuan restaurant on the outskirts Chinatown with a wide range of authentic dishes absolutely packed with flavour and spice. I visited with a large group of friends and the staff kindly served us in a private room. The staff in general were some of the best I’ve had being very kind, accommodating, and helpful during the evening. We order a wide array of dishes from the whole menu to sample a wide breadth of their offerings. Stand outs were the braised pork shank, dry wok frog legs, dry wok prawns, mapo tofu, Dan Dan noodles, and Chongqing noodles. However, every dish was genuinely packed with sizzling flavour that I’m sure there are many more excellent dishes we did not try. The only thing to note and only negative is that many items are quite spicy. Specifically, items labelled “authentic spicy” or described with “numbing sauce” will often contain many Sichuan peppercorns which can cause a very sharp numbing sensation on the tongue if bitten into. These aren’t necessarily intended to be eaten so you should try to avoid picking them up when eating from the dishes but they are quite common so be aware. Another way to account for this is to order plenty of non-spicy dishes to balance out the overall flavour profile. I would highly suggest their aubergine sesame paste and century eggs which were excellent vegetarian dishes. The price is also very reasonable. Not cheap but the portion sizes are very large and generous and you definitely pay for the flavour. Overall, I do believe that this could go up to a 5 star on a revisit with a little extra care in ensuring a more balanced flavour experience. I will definitely come back and this is an absolute recommend!

You can also eat authentic Sichuan cuisine in London! When you walk into the restaurant, you instantly feel like you are transported to a Chongqing restaurant. The design of the arches and window grilles gives you a strong Sichuan style! The boiled seabass uses fresh seabass, the fish fillets are tender and boneless, boiled with dried chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns, and then poured with hot oil, the aroma explodes instantly!

I recently dined at Brashu and was extremely disappointed with the service. The food was average at best, but what really ruined the experience was the way they handled my payment. My bill was £42, and I gave the staff £50. However, they never returned my change. I politely reminded them, but they ignored my request, acting as if nothing was wrong. This is completely unacceptable and feels dishonest. A restaurant should be a place where customers feel respected and valued, not taken advantage of. I wouldn’t recommend this place based on my experience. There are plenty of other restaurants with better service and more honest staff.

Not a very good experience. First of all, the grilled fish we ordered was served in 5 minutes after ordering, and it felt pre-made. DISAPPOINTED NOT RETURNING. Ordered the sea bass that was over like £32. It should be sizzling hot with the thick sauce but it wasn’t. It was like warm because I think they just brought out the fish that was already sitting there. Because it came 10min after we ordered with the fried rice. Fish- luke warm Fried rice - way too much oil Fried rice was just covered in SO much oil. It was unpleasant to keep eating. Sickening. Not enough prawns either for the price you pay. The server upstairs didn’t take care of us and didn’t explain how we order using the paper to tick the numbers. Overpriced for the quality of food & service. Canned Beef Brisket: Very delicious, goes well with rice, and tastes like home. Highly recommended. Maocai: Specially added potato slices, fat beef and duck blood, even if the amount is added, it is not too big... not much duck blood... but the taste is okay, quite satisfactory, but the lunch meat inside is very shredded... Fish-flavored eggplant: The fish-flavored eggplant tastes very good, but the texture of the eggplant is too poor, not soft at all, and the eggplant skin is difficult to chew. Brown sugar glutinous rice cake: The taste is okay, but this kind of thing is difficult to make and tastes bad. Ordering was really troublesome... The waiter just gave me a list and a pen without mentioning the serial number. After writing the name of the dish on the list, I asked the waiter if it was okay to write it this way. If there were any problems, we could re-write the name of the dish. After getting repeated affirmative answers, we were able to order the wrong two dishes... Fortunately, it didn't affect anything in the end. The atmosphere was average.

The family members said that this restaurant has been here since they came to London in 2007. It was a restaurant that they thought was delicious when they were students. I went there twice after arriving in London. The first time I ordered the elbow, it was quite delicious. The stewed elbow was tender enough, the portion was large, and the sauce was more homemade. Maoxuewang is not very tasty, just average. As for the other dishes I ate, I felt that most of them were semi-finished products prepared in advance by the restaurant to facilitate the speed of meal delivery, and the taste was really ordinary. I had the pleasure of dining at Bar Shu, a restaurant renowned for its authentic Sichuan cuisine and even recommended by Michelin – and it truly lives up to its reputation! The experience was absolutely wonderful. The Sweet Chili Chicken was an absolute highlight, perfectly balancing sweet and spicy flavors that left a lasting impression. The noodles were a standout as well, cooked to perfection with bold and delicious flavors. We also enjoyed the Gyoza, which were delicate and flavorful. To round off our feast, the Fried Rice was fragrant, well-seasoned, and an excellent complement to the rest of the dishes. Beyond the amazing food, the staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was beautiful and clean, with a warm and inviting vibe that added to the overall experience. Was the most outrageous experience we had in a restaurant in London. First, there is nobody to explain about the dishes, they , give you a menu with a list of no less than 138 dishes and you have to sign whatever you like to order. We chose 5 dishes that looked nice, and received the worst food in the city. It started with a boiled chicken with its skin on it, no taste at all except a red oil on it. Then there was a jar of gray colored aubergines that we had to cut them to smaller pieces by our own. The pick was as we got a huge bowl of unbearable hot soup with unrecognizable pieces and it in addition to some boiled pieces of a white fish, and the other dish which supposed to be prawns but was fried in so thick batter that again was unrecognizable, suffered from the same unbearable taste which left in the mouth for hours. The plates which the waiter collected after that "meal" were almost untouchable, but that fact did not raise any question, or other reference, and of course the bill was full, even despite that we did not touch the food. Nobody cares here. A shame.

I used to always have the braised flavor, but this time I tried the "Yuxiang" flavor. The sauce paired with the meat’s fragrance was so delicious, bite after bite, it really makes you want more. . The scallops were huge and super fresh. The vermicelli on top absorbed the garlic and scallop aroma, making it very flavorful. . The pork stomach chicken soup came in such a cool serving vessel. The chicken was tender, and the pork stomach was cleaned really well. With the addition of red dates, it was super nourishing.

When this was pointed out they, after some time, brought a fresh version. It seems as though they only replaced part of the dish as it still had meat in it. This was totally unacceptable. The food my husband’s family had was absolutely incredible. However, I will note for vegetarians and vegans, there is literally nothing you can eat. I mentioned I was a strict vegan and could not eat chicken powder, meat stock/broth, oyster sauce, etc. The server asked the chef if any vegetables could omit these (they all come with it even when labelled), and the chef said it was impossible. They told me the only thing I could eat was the fish, which I obviously could not eat. I was bummed about not being able to eat the food, but I’m very grateful that the staff took the time to check with the kitchen and took my request seriously, which doesn’t always happen.

Amazing! Some of the best Chinese food I've had in years, massive menu with tons of options, perfect service and great location. Just be aware the spicy food can be VERY spicy 🔥

Service is poor. Food is excellent. Extremely expensive. £50 per person without alcohol.

I've been there three or four times and the food is pretty good, but the fat and tall waitress on the second floor is really outrageous. Pouring water and pretending not to see it, serving wrong dishes and letting the guests bear the responsibility, ignoring guests who speak Mandarin, etc... It's very, very uncomfortable, and complaints have been to no avail. I really, really don’t recommend that you come here to accept the bad news. There are many other Chinese delicacies with delicious food and enthusiastic service. I've been there three or four times. The food is quite good, but the tall, heavyset waitress on the second floor is truly outrageous. She pretends not to see when pouring water, brings the wrong dishes and expects customers to deal with it , and ignores guests who speak Mandarin, among other issues. It's really frustrating, and my complaints have gone nowhere. I definitely do not recommend coming here to get upset. There are many other Chinese restaurants with delicious food and attentive service.

A fat waitress on the second floor has a very bad attitude! It's not an accident at all. My friends and I came here four or five times in a month, and every time we ran into her, we were so angry! I won't serve you if you speak Chinese. I asked for water before and was not given water. The foreigners who came after me took the initiative to pour water. This time I asked for payment and waited for more than 20 minutes. When they came, they threw the bill on the table. My friend asked her what she meant without even thinking. I replied and asked her to apologize. She said to her colleagues, "Why should I apologize to them?" But the manager on the second floor was really nice. Even when the wrong dish was served, we were charged according to the original order! Really nice~ I originally thought this meal would taste better, but it was different. It had more rude and racist ignores. It made my good mood today like a moldy pickle.

Background It is one of the few establishments in London that authentically showcases Sichuan's bold and fiery cuisine. During my time in London, it was my go-to spot for Sichuan food. Ambience The ambience is adorned with subtle Chinese artwork, adding personality to the two-floor space. Service The service is efficient, but staff could have been more friendly Food/drinks A standout dish is the spicy grilled fish, an epitome of Sichuan cuisine’s punchy yet nuanced character. Other must-try items include dan dan noodles and salt-and-pepper squid. Overall it isn’t the cheapest option in town, but the authenticity and quality of the dishes make it worth the splurge occasionally

Very tasty food, decent prices and we would return but terribly short staffed and inexperienced. We had to wait 20min for our booked table at 530pm. When we were seated, they greeted us by saying we needed to be out in 90 min but then they never gave us menus or order sheets. The food quality made up for the lack of service.

It's the king's elbow that I've been longing for, and it's true to its name. The whole thing is really big, and the four of us almost couldn't finish it. Soft and smooth, chopsticks gently peeled off the bone, the cortex part of the melt in the mouth, the meat is clear but not firewood, stewed super tasty, the soup can not be missed, promise me must be a mouthful of rice a mouthful of meat, the juice overflowing, to ensure that you eat the belly of the big round satisfaction, eat still want to eat!

I have been twice to Barshu now. Both times have been amazing. I need to make a little side note that I used FirstTable for this and had 50% off the food bill with this, in that way it is a no brainer to visit this place. The quality is great, and the service is amazing and attentive. When the sun started to break out and hit our table, the waiter immediately came over to offer to pull down the blinds a bit so it wouldn't blind us. I think if you pay original price for the food, it will just do it justice. The price for the area is alright and you won't be disappointed, in comparison with some of the other Chinese restaurants in Chinatown.

When you first open the menu you will see the quote “China is the place for food, but Sichuan is the place for flavour” and as soon as we received the first dish it made so much sense. We ordered the signature grilled seabass, special fried rice and Dan Dan Noodles each dish was just so flavourful, it was spicy but addictively spicy! 🌶️ Lovely discovery in Soho!

Haashim and Davide were excellent during our lunch. We took the lunch set menu along with the a la carte scallops and a few drinks. It was a pleasurable experience. I think the scallops could’ve been better considering the price. Service by Haashim was great and Davide had amazing wine knowledge Would recommend

Gives free spring rolls every time I order! They also have a couch for you to sit on and wait for your food, if you ask me that's very good customer service.
